Windows 7 status 0xc000000e : A lot of machines can´t start

Scenario:
Since 3-March-2015 a lot of computers in my company failed to start. The message error appeared is:
"Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the
cause. To fix the problem:
1. Insert your windows installation disc and
restart your computer.
2. Choose your lenguage settings, and then click
"Next".
3. Click "Repair your computer".
Status: 0xc000000e
Info:The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccesible"
Issues:
-The error appeared in around 200 computers at the same time.
-All the computers are running Windows 7 Professional, but a couple of computer were running Windows 7 Ultimate
-We use to do images to install the machines, I read that this could be one of the reason of the fail
-I ordered not to restart computers since March the 5th, normally a repaired computer restart with no problema but in couple of machines the error apear once again and we have to reinstalle them. We have still a bunch of computers the dont´s reboot since
before March the 3rd, so we know they are going to fail in the next reboot
-My first though was that something was wrong with Kaspersky, we asked for support to them but nothing was found relating the fail and kaspersky products
-If I run sfc/scannow in a machine that I know it can fail there is a bunch of messages showing errors in some files, normaly in sysWow64 directory, but I don´t know if this is relevant
So, what I´d like to know:
1-What files are misssing/corrupted
2-What procces caused that
Thanks in advance.
Serafin.

Thank Karem for you advices. I answer to your questions:
1-Have you done any changes recently actually? No, excepting the stuff around AD: GPO updates, Windows updates and that kind of stuff
2-After run sfc command, what's exact output? Basically it´s a large log file. I will search for relevant information and post it here
3-Have you tried the links's solution Machine provided? What's repair method you used for 50% successful computers? I perform automatic boot repair in Windows RE. If it fails a perform a restore point in Windows RE. If it fails I reinstall the PC
4-"I would like to suggest you rebuild the boot section with Bootrec.exe". I tried in two machines, it worked in one of them.
Thanks, I will be back with the log file after runnig scf/scannow

  • I already partitioned my hdd via Bootcamp, supports downloaded, and windows is on an external USB. How can I start installing Windows now? at startup it doesnt show up as bootable device...

    hi,
I am having a problem installing windows via bootcamp.
I already partitioned my hdd via Bootcamp, downloaded and copied all the supports for windows, and windows is on an external USB as well. I had to stop the process the other day, so i shut down the computer. Now I am trying to boot from the USB, but I cant get to that point where the computer should restart and windows would start installing.
. After restarting, holding command, it doesnt show up as bootable device.
How shall I move forward? My disk is already partitioned, and if i start the whole process from the beginning, it wants me to partition again - although I already made a 100GB partition for windows.
    Please help me out.
    best,
    Zoltan

So, here is what happened when I tried to make it.(sorry for quality, i had to take them by phone)
At first when I opened it I saw that I could simply resolve it just by stretching the arrow at the bottom, giving the 100 GB back which I partitioned before via Bootcamp. At this point options was not available.
I didnt do it because you mentioned earlier that it might be not designed to install windows.
The second thing I tried I choose 1 Partition from Partition Layout. This time Options were available but I didnt see anything like GPT, the onces that are optionable are on the screenshot.
What do you think how shall I move on? I was thinking to give it a shot with option 1, just stretch it back and try everything from scratch.

  • Windows Server 2008 not booting (\windows\system32\winload.exe - Status: 0xc000000e)

i have a Hp Server with two HDDs configured RAID 1 and installed Win Server 2008, after a power failure it is not booting and showing start up error Status: 0xc000000e.
tried all the methods showing on the same error page, when i am trying with CMD from Window DVD (repair option) i am getting only X:\ drive, it is not showing my C:\ and D:\. when i use Windows 7 DVD (just for troubleshoot) and select new install option,
it is showing my C:\ and D:\ with my correct Disk Usage and Free space, (so, my Data and Windows is available)
i saw lots of way to fix the issue, but without accessing to C:\ drive, how can i fix it? please anyone can help on this?

    Hi,
0xC000000E, or STATUS_NO_SUCH_DEVICE: the drive went unavailable, possibly a bad hard drive, disk array, and/or controller card.
Please also contact your hardware vendor HP to check the health of your hard disks.

  • Windows Virtual Machine Doesn't Start

I recently installed a clean install of windows 7 pro 64-bit. I installed windows XP mode as described on the microsoft website followed by the update provided but when I try to open windows virtual PC nothing happens. I click on the program icon and nothing happens. When I try to open windows XP mode I get the error message "Cannot start Windows Virtual PC Host Process. Check the System event log for more detials. Server execution failed" Once I check the event log there is nothing there. The PC I am running on supports hardware virtualization and it is enabled in the bios. My coworker just installed windows XP mode on the machine right next to mine and it works fine. Can someone please tell me how to get this thing to work. Running virtual 2007 is not an option.

    Same problem.
In past i've used successful windows virtual pc, but now it won't work.
I tryed uninstallind the Windows6.1-KB958559-x64.msu update and the windows xp mode and deleting the old virtual machines.
After reinstall the Windows6.1-KB958559-x64.msu update the problem returns as before.
I get this error: "Cannot start Windows Virtual PC Host Process. Check the System event log for more detials. Server execution failed"
Looking at the event viewer into "Applications and Services Logs/Microsoft/Windows/Virtual PC/Admin" i find "Virtual machine ''. Error - Server execution failed"
(0x80080005)" and just before this message i get "One or more files from the Virtual PC installation are missing. Please reinstall Virtual PC and try again."
So i tryed a lot of times uninstalling and reinstalling, unsucessfully. What i can do?

  • Windows machines can't join domain after 10.5.4 upgrade

    Howdy folks,
I have a ticket open with Apple on this but am posting here in hopes that someone might have an idea for me.
I upgraded our Mac OS X Server 10.5.3 to 10.5.4 on Sunday, and this morning several users reported that their PCs running Windows XP SP2 were unable to login to the Windows domain hosted on this machine. It's the primary domain controller for the Windows users.
One thing to note is that I had to reinstall the server completely because the 10.5.4 patcher crashed, creating all kinds of mayhem. I did a fresh install of OS X Server 10.5 and immediately applied the 10.5.4 combo updater to it. I had to restore the Open Directory from an archival copy, and the SMB was created fresh. Not sure why but the SMB services weren't preserved by the Server settings export command in Server Admin.
I thought unbinding the PC from the Windows domain and then rebinding it with a new name would help, but I've been completely unable to add older computers to the domain, even after removing the old computer records first.
I've got a reproducible failure mode for this problem on a Windows XP virtual machine running on VMware Fusion on my Mac. Here's the method I've been using to create the failure:
    1. Change Windows XP System name to something new that doesn't already have a computer record on the Mac OS X Server and reboot.
    2. After the reboot, run "NewSID" program on Windows to globally change my Windows machine's SID to a new, random value, and reboot again.
    3. Attempt to use the Network ID wizard in the Windows Control Panel to re-add the machine to the domain under a new name so there's no conflict with any old computer records floating around in Open Directory. After it prompts me to enter the username, password and domain name for a user who's authorized to add machines to the domain, I get a dialog box that displays this error:
"Your computer could not be joined to the domain because the following error has occurred:
    An internal error occurred."
    Not too informative.
Here are the error messages I see in /var/log/samba/log.smbd (searching for the new computer name in the search field):
    netbios connect: name1=BIGMAC name2=JEFFVM6
    netbios connect: local=bigmac remote=jeffvm6, name type = 0
opendirectorysamsearchname gave -14136 [eDSRecordNotFound]: no dsRecTypeStandard:Computers record for account 'JEFFVM6$'
    odssam_getgrnam gave -14136 [eDSRecordNotFound]: no dsRecTypeStandard:Groups record for 'JEFFVM6$'!
opendirectorysamsearchname gave -14136 [eDSRecordNotFound]: no dsRecTypeStandard:Computers record for account 'JEFFVM6$'
kDSStdAuthNewUser was successful for account "jeffvm6$"
At that point it's impossible to join the computer to the domain no matter what. The most puzzling thing is that SOME of our users were able to login without any problems whatever. The ones that were either physically off or somewhere else when the 10.5.4 upgrade was applied are the only PCs that seem to be having problems.
Any help at all is appreciated. I suspect this is some kind of a SID conflict because the SMB server had to be recreated from scratch, but have no idea how to fix the client, the server, or both to make the computer account creation process work.

    The problem is fixed.
The issue boils down to an argument between the Open Directory server on bigmac (the OS X Server machine) and the SMB server on bigmac. The crucial information I needed to solve this problem was located here: http://www.radiotope.com/node/61
The Open Directory database had to be restored from a backup following this weekend's problematic upgrade, and it had a different value for the SID for the Windows domain than the one used by the SMB server software itself. Even stranger was that the Open Directory database actually had the wrong domain name! The It was listed as "BIGMAC" in Open Directory, even though it was set to the correct Windows domain name in the SMB server.
The solution was to demote the SMB server from a Primary Domain Controller to a Standalone Machine, and then repromote it. Although I changed no values in the settings, and did not modify the plist containing the SID in the Open Directory via the Inspector in Workgroup Admin, after the SMB PDC was repromoted, the SIDs and the domain names in Open Directory and the SMB config agreed with each othe. Now new machines can join the domain and users can login just as they did before. No client-side modifications are necessary.
Hope this is helpful to someone else. It was quite the hair-pulling experience for a while there.

TM does not work like that.
If you want files to use later.. do not use TM.
Or do not use TM to the same location. Plug a USB drive into the computer and use that as the target for the permanent backup.

for Lync 2013.  The faulting module is related to the graphics driver, but reinstalling does nothing, uninstalling and then reinstalling does nothing, it cannot further be upgraded.  This same error affects all the Dell latitude e6520's.  It
also only occurs in Windows 8.1.  The windows 7 image using the exact same driver version (both the outdated driver and latest driver) works just fine with Lync 2013.
Running Lync with administrative permissions does nothing, disabling hardware acceleration did nothing.  None of our laptops come with the bluetooth adapter, and also updated all other drivers such as chipset and soundcard.  Error occurs on the
RTM version of Lync, and Lync with SP1 fully updated.  The rest of Office 2013 works fine.  I am currently at a loss here short of telling the help desk to not image E6520's with Windows 8.1 because Lync 2013 doesn't work on it.  But there has
to be a reason for it.  Calling out for some suggestions here.
    Thanks!

We also have the same issue with Dell E6420 running Windows 8.1. Lync application does not respond after start-up. Did you try looking for the error file under
    C:\users\username\appdata\local\Microsoft\Windows\WER\Reportarchive
it should create file like AppHang_lync.exe_some numbers. search for the latest one.
Interesting, I don't have any 6420's handy but figured the issue would exist on those also.  I looked up the location you mention and see many crash logs for Lync.  Not really sure what the error is, just says it stopped working.

  • On my Windows 7 machine with iTunes I get a message stating APSDaemon.exe can't start because msvcr80.dll is missing.  What is the solution

I have iTunes installed on my Windows 7 machine.  When waking up my Windows 7 machine I get a message that says that APSDaemon.exe can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing.  I'm directed to reintall the applicaton.  Is this iTunes related?  If so, what do I need to do?

  • Windows 7 Supplicant Configuration - ISE PEAP w Machine Auth

Can anyone tell me the settings for the Windows 7 supplicant that works with ISE and PEAP using machine authentication?  I have an authorization profile that permits the user login only after machine 'WasAuthenticated'.  I have only found this to work by setting the Windows 7 supplicant up to use Single-Sign-On before Windows logon and to specify 'User or Machine' authentication.  Then I'm only successful if I have both wired and wireless connected/on and I perform a logoff/reboot.  Surely this isn't right.  What if a user logs on without any connection with cached credentials and then wants to use wireless?  Can't they just perform both machine and user auth over the wireless connection regardless of prior machine/auth states?  I used the videos from LABMINUTES to configure the policies, but I don't need the ACLs for the WLAN controller because these are autonomous APs.
    Regards,
    Scott

Microsoft will send both and only cares if one passes. This is the same with radius. ACS and ISE allows you to check to see if the user was authenticated which happens initially on boot. After the initial machine auth, the windows machine will only send user creds. The was machine auth is a workaround to be able to do both. The issue is that when the timeout of the machine creds happen, the devices has to be rebooted. In Cisco Live 2012, they even suggested you don't do this due to not knowing when the cached credentials ACS or ISE will keep this info.

  • Windows side of my machine can't connect.

Hey guys, I'm using a Macbook Pro 15 inch with both windows and mac on it.
A while back, we got a new airport extreme to replace our old wireless router, and the mac side of my machine can connect to it, but the windows side is being a pain about it. I already got the HEX version of my password and tried to use it, but windows still can't connect. Any ideas?

What you’re saying doesn’t make sense. Port 25 is for the outgoing server. There is no way you would get a port 25 time-out error while trying to access your Mail on one computer but not on the other if the settings were the same on both.
Either you’re getting this error when sending mail (which is not the problem you’re describing), or the incoming server port setting (i.e. Preferences > Accounts > Advanced > Port) is wrong (and cannot be the same as on the other computer if Mail works fine there).

  • Windows 7 'File server' disconnects when XP machine connects to network

    Hi guys,
We have a small office setup here, we have two Windows 7 machines, three Windows XP machines and one Windows 7 machine that acts as a fileserver (folder sharing and an SVN repository).
Every morning, I turn up to work, turn on my Windows 7 machine and the system works fine, but, as soon as one of my collegues turn up and boot up their Windows XP machines, the fileserver disconnects. The only way to get the fileserver up and running is
to restart it, this is obviously tedious and irritating. It only happens when an XP machine connects to the network and not when a Windows 7 machine connects.
Does anybody have an experience with this sort of issue or have an suggestions to resolve it?
    Thanks, Simon.

Firstly, I am a Tier III Computer Technician/Software Programmer/Network Engineer who has been working on MS OS' since DOS3.
Secondly, Someone named Alex Zhaozx gets the ID10T award as he marked this as a solution. Alex... How is posting a MS OS license a resolve?
There is no resolution posted here.
For understanding, all references to Windows 7 will be marked as TRAP7 in the following info. After reading, you will understand why.
The other major note Simon has not mentioned, is that when the "disconnect" happens, all Windows XP machines can still interface with each other over the network perfectly (accessing each others Shares and drive mappings with zero network connection
issues). The TRAP7 machines can interface will all facets of each of the TRAP7 and Windows XP computers on the network with zero connection issues. It appears MS has placed a condition or timer to cause the disconnect to XP on introduction to the network. Simon
is slightly incorrect is his statement this only happens when a XP machine is booted, as it happens on all connection methods (whether it be wake from sleep and attempt to reconnect or access TRAP7 share/drive, idle computer attempting to access TRAP7 share/drive,
Windows XP computer attempting to access files on the TRAP7 file server for the first time, after each have been up and running independently (on the network) perfectly for hours...
We have a larger scope than Simon with 45 machines and 17 of them being Windows XP, the others are TRAP7 (32 and 64 bit varied) with 1 on Vista (The beginning of the end for MS OS').
I have been searching all MS sites and the other techie sites for a resolve and there has not been one "valid" resolution to this problem they have caused. Or was is my fault for using Windows 7 on a near perfect network?
C'mon maaaan. (intended for Bill Gates) Get this resolved or get out of the OS game, there are so many better OS's out there. Stop TRYING to DO things and start DOING them the right instead.
Belief: This is an issue caused by MS with full intention of forcing everyone to fully convert all at once because they are not getting the money they used to, as the global economy is now whacked. You notice... They have never stepped up to say anything
in this post. They just quickly made an attempt to brush this under the carpet.
BTW Alex Z: When you are ready to step up and get involved, let me know. I will get you any technical information you need to get this resolved.

  • Can't start Windows Vista HELP!!!!

When booting Vista, the screen goes black with the following error:
    =======================
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem :
    1. Insert your Windows installation disk and restart your computer.
    2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next"
    3. Click "Repair your computer"
If you do not have this disk, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.
    File : acpi.sys
    Status : 0xc0000098
Info : Windows failed to load because a requires file is missing, or corrupt.
I've used Windows repairing disc but it said the Startup Repair cann't repair the computer automatically.
    Thanks for your help ahead!

    Ouch!
If the problem is really "just" a missing or corrupt acpi.sys, can you boot rescue & recovery (Think button) or boot a Linux live CD and copy in a clean copy of the file - if you can find one somewhere?
I haven't tried this with R&R,  but I think download/copy in is one of its capabilities.
It goes in /windows/system32/drivers/ on my Vista 64 machine.
I've got a suspicion this isn't the whole problem, and the above is just a WAG.
    Good Luck,
    Z.
