Windows 8 Apps and flex

I'm just starting into the world of Flex as my chosen environemnt to really focus on for developing apps for Cloud applications, and creating applications taht all for easy data access across platforms and devices.
However I see Windows 8 apps as almost untouched and open season for great apps as the Surface and more Win 8 mobile devices come out.  Is there a roadmap for developing Win 8 apps (Metro) or for Windows phone?
thanks.

Probably the best choice would be the option Refresh your PC
You could refresh the system without loosing your files.

  • Inquire about the best laptop specifications for Developing Windows Apps and 3D modelling Animation using "Kinect for Windows v2"?

I need some help in choosing laptop that is most compatible with "Kinect for Windows v2"; in order to develop Windows Apps, and 3D modelling Animation and Character Design. Which is better (Specifications):
    HP Pavilion Notebook PC 15-p150ne
    AMD A10-5745M +
    AMD Radeon R7 M260 (2 GB DDR3L dedicated) +
    4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3, OR
    HP Pavilion Notebook PC 15-p034ne
    Intel Core i5-4210U + NVIDIA GeForce 840M (2 GB DDR3 dedicated) + 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3L

The second system with the Intel chipset will more than likely have the Intel USB3 chipset required for Kinect. As for GPU they are similar, but the i5 with DDR3 1600MHZ ram is a better option. Keep in mind, if you are doing anything in-depth for
3D, a laptop isn't the best options, but if you have to go mobile then you have to decide what is best for your requirements.

  • Use MacMini server for windows apps and save for windows files ?

My question : Office equiped mixed computers , aslo Windows and Mac,
Could we use MacMini server for both machines, working by windows apps and / or to save and work with windows files on MacMini server  and with Mac as well?
We woud use it for normal office work and get it by internet from other places as well
windows apps: merchandising, invoice, word, excel, pictures editing, Outlook Express + the Mac apps
    thnx ,
    MACIren

In general what you can do is: in OS X, use Windows in virtualization (aka emulation), as a "virtual machine" with VMWare Fusion, Parallels, or Oracle VM Virtual box.
That way you have both operating system open side by side without having to reboot into one or the other operating system.
Not sure whether you need a Mac Mini Server per se to do that, I do that with my MacBook Pro for instance. But the server would help since it has a quad-core CPU (more cores that you can dedicate to the virtual macine), and you can put the virtual machine on the second harddrive for better disk access performance. Was there some particular reason you were thinking of the Mini Server -- do you want to use server side Windows apps?
Again I have that setup on my MacBook Pro using VMWare Fusion with an XP virtual machine. In the Windows, I only use Office 2003 and some company apps that are Windows only. With Fusion (and I'm sure the other apps can do it as well) you can set a "shared" folder so both Windows and Lion will see the contents of it for reading and writing. I believe with Fusion you can also do your entire Home directory, but I prefer to limit it to a single shared "work" folder.

  • AIR app and Flex app in same Flex builder project

    Hi,
I've developed a flex app with a lot of custom components.
Now I want to create a desktop version of the same using the same
exact same components. Is it possible that I add an mxml
application, make it a WindowedApplication and compile it to
produce an AIR app? Or are there any workarounds to accomplish
    this.

Easiest way I have found is to complete your Flex Web app.
Then create a new Flex AIR app and then copy code from your working
    Flex Web app over.
Yes, you end up with two complete sets of code, but if that
is going to become an issue with keeping both versions up to date
you can simply use one set of source.
To do this, create two projects, one Web, one Air. Then you
can create a third folder (not project) that contains all the
    common code.
In each of your projects, simply import the code you want to
    use using the project options.
No, not ideal, but does work. Would be nice to see Flex
Builder changed so you can have rooted projects.
E.g. A project called "MyBigApplication" that isn't targetted
at any platform. Within this you could then produce sub-projects
that target a particular platform, be it web or air but share code.
    Maybe in the next version.....
    Cheers

  • Java app and flex charting

I am in the process of making a flex charting application
that receives data from a java applet. I've made the
flex-javascript connection using the FABridge but when Flex adds
the data to the chart it jumps around. In the following link is the
app running to show you it, I have allowed the source to be viewed
    as well.
Has anyone had this problem before? Or can see a solution?
This jumping around doesn't just affect the chart, if I add
another element not even within the chart area, but somewhere else
in the application it moves around too.
    Thanks

    Hi,
I apologize for delayed response. Yes, in general you can move Java EE applications to Oracle Java Cloud Service and move the corresponding data to Oracle Database Cloud Service. But you need to make sure that your application fits the surface area exposed by Java Cloud Service. You can check that in couple of ways: (1) when you try to deploy your application in our cloud, it will run a whitelist process that will indicate if you are using features/APIs that are currently unavailable in the cloud. Your can run the whitelist offline using the Java Cloud Service SDK. The SDK zip has a help file that explains how to run the whitelist. (2) You can read the chapter in our documentation that explains what is available in Java Cloud Service today. Here is the link http://docs.oracle.com/cloud/CSJSU/feat_implement.htm#CSJSU7149
Once you determine that your application can fit within the surface area of the Java Cloud Service, you can deploy it. You can move you data as explained here -- http://docs.oracle.com/cloud/CSDBU/develop.htm#CSDBU204
    Hope that helps.
    Thanks,
    -AnandK.

  • JFileChooser functioning like normal Windows Apps FileChooser

I have this problem that's been giving me too much headache already. When you click on Open on any Windows app, and click on the "Details" button, it will show you the files' details (FileName, Type, Date, etc.). This is the same with JFileChooser, so no problem there. The thing is, with Windows apps, you can click on the headers and have the files sorted according to the header you clicked. This doesn't happen to a JFileChooser. Has any of you guys did this or found any solution to this problem? I've searched (almost) everywhere, Google, Sun, etc., I even looked into JFileChooser's source code but I can't seem to find anything.
I know this is possible, so anyone who can help, you'll be greatly appreciated.

Thought I would pass along some updated code for this as this was very helpful to us as we are still on jdk 1.5.
This has been modified to use the Windows UI. The advantage of doing this in the UI class is so you can set it as the default UI for JFileChooser inside your application. If you had this as a subclass of JFileChooser (as it is above) then you explicitly have to use that subclass throughout your application. By setting this UI class as the FileChooserUI in your UIDefaults table then every instance of JFileChooser will now automatically use your overridden UI and theres nothing else you have to do.

  • Windows app, javascript problems

    Hi ,
We're building a windows app, and we have some issues with executing Javascript in the app itself (not the folios)
i understand the alert function doesnt work because its a browser function - therefore wont work within an app.
but we have a 'reload' link on our custom store page that uses the location.reload function and we cant get that to work either - probably for the same reason.
The code we use is this:
    <a href='javascript:window.location.reload()'>Reload</a>
And this is the error message we get:
"No apps are installed to open this type of link (bridge)"
Does anyone have any ideas of how we can reload our store page?
    Thanks
    Vauneen

You should put your code in an onClick method, not in the href.

  • Newby Question: Can AIR app have BOTH use HTML and Flex?

I need to make a desktop app using HTML and JavaScript but I want 99% of the logic to be written in Flex.  Is that possible?
Also, do I need to buy Flash in order to compile Flex?  Or does AIR SDK include a compiler?
    Pete

Yes, it is possible.  For Air apps, Flex has an html control that is basically a self-contained webkit browser you can drop into your application.  You can insert html either by loading an html string, or pointing the browser to a particular location on your filesystem or on the internet.  As far as javascript, it can either be part of the site you load into the browser, or you can "cross-script" javascript in action script.  Cross-scripting may be better in certain instances, because then you can use controls written in flex to access or manipulate the html content.  To cross-script, you do something like this: var dom:Object = html.window.document, where "html" is the id of your html control.  Then, you can access javascript methods and properties through the dom object, like this: var p1:Object = dom.getElementById("p1").  See the webkit docs for available javascript methods and properties.
No, you don't need to buy Flash.  The Flex SDK has a compiler.  You still might want to get Flex Builder (or the upcoming Flash Builder, which is the same as Flex Builder, but very different than Flash--not confusing at all...).  Or I think there are some third party IDEs for Flex, one or more of  which might be free, but I'm not sure.  I imagine it would be pretty hard for someone just learning flex and air to start building apps without Flex Builder.  Also, I think the beta of Flash Builder is still available for free, if you want to try it out.

  • How do I find the apps and tracks associated with my ex-husband's account to delete them OTHER than 1 by 1-running Windows 8?

I recently migrated my extensive library from a Mac authorized with both my and my ex-husband's id's to a Windows 8 machine only authorized with my id. I am finding that a good portion of the apps and tracks are still only authorized by his. How do I find these so I can delete them from my library? Finding them 1 by 1 has been VERY tedious. I have seen a script for the Mac to do this, but no solutions for Windows.

It doesn't sound like the Exchange environment is configured in a manner to support these types of clients very well.  Have your Exchange team look at the following
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2012/11/26/supporting-windows-8-mail-in-your-organization.aspx
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2013/10/18/supporting-windows-mail-8-1-in-your-organization.aspx
From the latter article: "Communications applications can connect to a corporate Exchange service
configured to require certificate-based authentication. User authentication certificates can be provisioned to Windows 8.1 devices by administrators or end-users can browse to certificate and install to user certificate storage."
    You might want to:
Ask your Exchange team the public URLs (ExternalURL) for Exchange OWA & ActiveSync
Open the OWA URL in your Internet Explorer from your Surface
If you get a Certificate warning, open the certificate and select Install (NOTE: You may have to install the entire certificate chain).  Your desktop support team should be able to support this because it is the SAME process for standard Windows 8x
    desktops.
Confirm that you can open OWA on your surface with no more certificate or security warnings.  NOTE: The Exchange team will have to configured OWA properly.
Once confirmed, repeat the same steps for the activesync URL that they provided.
When done, try using the OWA OR ActiveSync URL value in your settings of your Mail client.
    Good Luck

  • Windows Phone and Windows 8 Mail App not sending email from Reply/Forward

I have recently upgraded from Windows 8 to 8.1. After a successful upgrade I configured the Windows 8 Mail app to also sync with Exchange (2010 in house server). On my Windows Phone (Nokia Lumia 800) I have the same account configured.
This resulted in the problem that the Mail App and the phone do not want to send any emails that have been created by reply or forward.
The phone gives the following error:
"We weren't able to send this message, so we've put it in your Drafts folder. Before you try sending it again, you can check to see if the address is correct and that no attachments are too large."
The Mail App give the following error:
"There's a problem with sending messages from [email protected] at the moment. Check with your provider for more info."
If I create a new email there is no problem.
I have searched all over the internet for a solution to this problem, but could not find somebody with exactly the same problem.

I have exactly the same problem, but unfortunately no solution either... I'll be watching this thread, or post a solution if I find one...

    Hi Kenneth,
Here for your case suggest you to configure RDP session time limit so that your user can disconnect\log off once the specific time limit reached.
You can setup the session time limit in different method.
    1. Open the Server Manager, select Remote Desktop Services.
    2. In Remote desktop Services, in right side you can drop down to collections.
    3. Select the collection which you want to edit the settings.
    4. Under collections Properties, select Task and then Edit Properties.
    5. In Properties dialog box, select Session.
    6. You can find all thetimeout settings under session collection properties; edit according to your requirements and then OK.
And apart also by group policy setting as below.
    Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Session Time Limits
    User Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Session Time Limits
    -  Set time limit for disconnected sessions
    -  Set time limit for active but idle Remote Desktop Services sessions
    -  Set time limit for active Remote Desktop Services sessions
    -  End session when time limits are reached
Please check which setting suitable for your environment and you can apply for your case.
