Windows 8 - Manage Wireless Networks?
Where is the Control Panel in Windows 8 for Manage Wireless Networks? I want to work with my wireless profiles.
Thanks
They won't let me post a link here as they claim my account hasn't been verified. I found this on a Microsoft webpage by doing a Google search for Manage Wireless Network Profiles Applies to Windows 8.1
Manage wireless network profiles
Applies to Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1
If you need to change a wireless connection profile, you can usually do it by following these steps:
1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings, and then tap Change PC settings.
(If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, click Settings, and then click Change PC settings.)
2. Tap or click Network, tap or click Connections, and then tap or click the connection you want to change.
3. On the page that appears, make the changes you want.
Some tasks, such as deleting a profile, must be done at the command prompt. To do these tasks, open Command Prompt, and then type the appropriate command from the following table.
Open Command Prompt by swiping in from the right edge of the screen, tapping Search (or if you're using a mouse, pointing to the upper-right corner of the screen, moving the mouse pointer down, and then clicking Search), entering Command Prompt in the search
box, and then tapping or clicking Command Prompt.
Task
Instructions
Delete a profile
At the command prompt, type:
netsh wlan delete profile name="ProfileName"
Show all wireless profiles on the PC
At the command prompt, type:
netsh wlan show profiles
Show a security key
At the command prompt, type:
netsh wlan show profile name="ProfileName" key=clear
Move a network up in the priority list
Connecting to a new network and choosing Connect automatically will place it at the top of the list.
Stop automatically connecting to a network within range
Tap or click the network in the network list, and then click Disconnect.
Stop automatically connecting to a network that's out of range
At the command prompt, type:
netsh wlan set profileparameter name="ProfileName" connectionmode=manual
How Windows determines connection priority
Windows usually connects to networks in this order:
1. Ethernet
2. Wi-Fi
3. Mobile broadband
When you connect to a new Wi-Fi network, it’s added to the list, and Windows will connect to that network while it’s in range. If you connect to another Wi-Fi network while in range of the first network, Windows will prefer the
second network over the first one.
Mobile broadband networks are treated differently. If you manually connect to a mobile broadband network when there is a Wi-Fi network in range, the mobile broadband network is preferred just for that session. The next time you’re in range of
both networks, the Wi-Fi network is preferred. This is because mobile broadband networks typically are metered.
If you want to force your PC to prefer a mobile broadband network over Wi-Fi, tap or click the Wi-Fi network in the list of networks, and then click Disconnect. Windows won’t automatically connect to that Wi-Fi network.

I'm attempting to setup AX with Windows XP. I have a 802.11g Dlink router (DI-524) that I typically connect to using my work laptop. The PC has a direct connection to the router. The AX constantly flashes amber. I tried hard reseting the AX. When I run Airport Admin Utility on my PC the AX does not show up. However, I can see it using my laptop in the wireless connections. When I open Airport Setup Assistant I get the following error "This computer has no wireless interface enabled or Windows is not setup to manage wireless networks on this computer. If you have....."
I'm not sure what do do from here. Appreciate any help.I have a Qwest wireless modem (model 2701hg-d) and am trying to set up the Airport Express (AX) to use already existing wireless network wirelessly (ie without the ethernet cable). Is this possible?
In order to set it up I have the AX plugged into the modem via an ethernet cable. I have reset the AX and then run the Admin Utility. Once it recognizes the AX I then go to the Airport tab and select 'Join an Existing wireless Network (wireless client)' and then enter in the Network Name exactly as it is spelled in my modem configuration. I check the 'Internet' tab and it says connect using: Wireless Network adn the 'Network' tab is grayed out. Then I hit update and the admin utility no longer lists the AX and the AX light is blinking amber. Not sure what is going on. I am using v6.2 of the firmware.
Do I need to use WDS?
Also, does anyone know if multiple speaker selection is available for itunes pc like it is in itunes mac? Currently I can only play either my computer speakers OR my kitchen speakers. -
Bring Back "Manage Wireless Networks" option
Manually adding a WiFi network connection is very difficult - especially when security settings need to be set in order to connect.
Please bring back the "Manage Wireless Networks" option in Network and Sharing Center. But to add a manual Wi-Fi network connection is not that much different than before.
under Network and Sharing Center, click on "Set up a new connection or network"
double-click "Manually connect to a wireless network"
select your connection (Network name)
choose Security type
choose Encryption type
enter Security Key
choose auto connection (or not); choose hidden connection as applicable (i.e. network SSID not broadcast)
click NEXT, etc.
Not much to "bring back" is there? -
Bootcamp Windows 7 Wireless Network Connection: No Valid IP Configuration
I just bought a new 13" MBP and have installed Windows 7 Ultimate via Bootcamp 5.0. I installed the Windows Support Software that I had previously downloaded via Bootcamp Assistant on Mac OS. Although the Wireless Network Connection asked for my network key and connects to the network, I cannot access the internet. The troubleshooter find this problem: "Wireless Network Connection" doesn't have valid IP configuration. I am using my old Dell computer and it is connecting to the wireless properly and my MBP can connect on Mac OS, so I don't think it's a router issue. Here are the things I have tried so far to resolve this issue, but none have worked:
Uninstalling the Broadcom Network Adapter driver, restarting the computer, and reinstalling
Repairing the Windows Support Software with the Bootcamp 5.0.5033 Support Software Update downloaded from www.apple.com
Uninstalling the Broadcom Network Adapter driver, restarting the computer, and reinstalling the driver from Bootcamp 5.0.5033

Wireless Network Management with Multiple SSIDs in one Wireless Profile
Could anybody explain me about how Multiple SSIDs in one Wireless Network Name (Network Profile) ? Configuration will be pushed to Windows 7 Pro from Wins Server 2008 R2.
Objective: Multiple office locations will have different SSIDs and when the laptop user travels one location to another, he/she could connect to wireless networks at any offices without any configuration change but utilizing "Automatically use my Windows
logon name and password (and domain if any.)" setting in EAP MSCHAPv2 properties.
Network Name: Enterprise
SSIDS: SFO-WIFI, LAX-WIFI,CHI-WIFI,NYC-WIFI,
Network Type:Access Point
Security Type: WPA2-Enterprise
Encryption Type: AES
Network Authentication Method: Microsoft:Protect EAP(PEAP)
My question is: (1) Will Windows try all the SSIDs in order to get connected to the Wireless Network at the office? (Let's say, user is in NYC, but will Windows try to find SFO-WIFI SSID first, wait until time out, retry?, and moves on to LAS-WIFI SSID,
wait until time out, retry?, and moves on to CHI-WIFI and finally tries NYC-WIFI SSID and found the SSID in the beacon from Access Point and authenticates through RADIUS?
(2) If the answer is YES, what is the waiting time/timeout setting for one SSID before moves on to another?
(3) If the answer is NO, what is the process to get user connected to NYC-WIFI SSID when he/she is in NYC office within the range of that SSID?Hello Ninjago_2224,
About the multiple office location have different SSIDs, does the location A has the signal used in
location D?
Please go to Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center
, and then click Manage wireless networks.
The windows will try to connect to these networks in the order listed.
Please check if the four SSID pushed by Windows Server 2008 is listed as mentioned above.
If the location A have the location D SSID and the location D SSID has higher priority, the Windows will connect to
location D SSID.
So about the question 1, the Windows will try the SSID in order.
About the question 2, I can’t find the accurate time that test one SSID and move to another. But based on my test, it is very fast.
For more information, please take a look at the following article.

S405 Wireless Networks Problem Windows 8 with SSID's
S405 keeps refreshing and shuffling wireless networks. Most of the time it won't show our SSID. We have other thinkpad devices, other wireless tablets/consoles, non of them have this problem.
I was also able to replicate the same issue with another router (in fact we replaced our router recently, and same issue was present before) and it is still happenning.
Another interesting thing is, whatever our SSID is, S405 specifically hides that SSID, this is the most frustrating part. Why would it not display on the list of available networks? I changed the SSID, and it is still not finding it. I made the SSID visible thinking that was the problem, still no luck.
Is there some sort of bug in S405 that makes it not play well with Windows 8 wireless networks?
Are there any applications that I can use to make the extremely restricted Windows 8 networks screen a little more Diagnose-Friendly?
PS: The SSID will show up once in a while allowing us to connect, or sometimes it won't show but will connect magically, this happens after we turn wireless on/off, reboot laptop, or try other various ways to get it to connect.
Thanks in advance!

Windows 7 no network adaptor and no WIFI connection
My MBP A1286 was installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit in Superdrive by Boot Camp Assistant and without internet connection. It was completed successfully. WIFI has no problems with OS X Lion except that in Windows 7, There were a few drivers not found and cannot connect to internet with LAN or WIFI. The first important driver is Network Adapter which is missing and if resolved, then I can windows update and search for missing drivers.
Please help.HI Bob n Beanbag,
No where was mentioned the solution which I found out the long consuming hours of trials.
1. When using Boot Camp Assistant (BCA), ONLY internal Superdrive can create CD for Downloading Windows software. You cannot use external superdrive. Since I did not create a CD then I have to redo BCA and select both option to burn CD and remove Win 7. Only then the CD is burn successfully. Next screen, do not proceed to restore MAC OS X (ie to remove Win 7).
2. Reboot and press button "Option" to select and boot Win 7-64bit. Then serach in the CD folders and install the files manually so that the Device Managers icon are fully updated drivers (you can't get connected to internet: look into the folder Broadcom and install all the three 64-bits drivers, thereafter you are connected for Windows update.)
3. At Start/Run, type "Manage Wireless Networks" /Add /Manually create a Network profile. The information should be the same as the router WIFI settings. Tick also below two options. That's WIFI will be connected. -
Hi,
I have a Dell Latitude E6440 running Win 7
Enterprise 64 on a domain. It will connect to any unsecured network, and it can see the secured network in the list when I click the wireless connection icon on the system tray. When I go to manage wireless networks, the secured network does not show
up (and thus, I cannot delete the network to try to re-add it). Normally, we would add the secure network here. I click Add, give the name in the correct syntax, add the needed information (WPA/2-Enterprise, EAS or TKIP), and hit Next, it immediately returns
with "An unexpected error occurred". A similar thing happens when I hit Connect from the list of available networks that pops up when I open the system tray icon: it says it was unable to connect, when I hit troubleshoot, it says that it could not
identify the problem. The event log shows the error below. I haven't been able to find any resolutions here or elsewhere that address the fact that I can connect to unsecured wireless networks, but not secured wireless networks.
Other notable troubleshooting steps:
Uninstalled/Reinstalled wireless adapter with the latest driver
Other laptops are able to access the same secure wireless network
The first WLAN-AutoConfig error in the event log was Event ID: 12013, attempting a 802.1x authentication. Then Event ID: 11006; stating "Explicit Eap failure received". After a few days of alternating all 3 errors, they started to only error on
Event ID 8002.

Windows 8.1 Networking and a lot more
Where do I start? I've been redirected here from the Windows Community site by Microsoft as I guess it's too complicated for them. Since updating to 8.1 the other day, networking is erratic to nonfunctional. Some of the issues:-
1. I cannot connect to my NAS which is using Windows Home Server unless I reboot the laptop.
2. Networking says I'm using a router that I got rid of months ago. Even after it finally said it was using my Asus router, next reboot it reverted to the old one. When you hover the mouse over the wireless network indicator on the bottom control bar it
says the old router, when you right click to get connects it says the new one is connected!
3. Windows Firewall will not recognise my security software (Panda) and give a warning even though Action Center does and says everything is fine. Can it be a firewall issue Windows 8.1 is imagining?
4. Sometimes I have to reboot to get an internet connection. At the moment said controlbar wireless icon is saying I'm not connected but I am.
5. I can't join my home group, 3 pc's and laptops using Windows 7, thank God. They work fine, just the Windows 8.1 is on its own, an outcast!
Oh Lord, why can't I go back to Windows 8.0 even?Hi,
I have been able to set up a homegroup with Windows 7 SP1, and joined a Windows 8.1 PC in that group successfully. from what have been disscussed above, I suspect your Windows 8.1 PC can't join homegroup is most probably caused by the
network issue. So we might first take a try to solve the network issue.
We might first start with the link below:
Wired and wireless network problems
Also please take a try to delete the wireless network profiles and then reconnect the network, then check the results:
Manage wireless network profiles
The homegroup link provided showed the reasons why can't join homegroup in I can't create, join, or use a homegroup. In addition to the network aspects, please also take a check with the others.

Trouble setting up wireless network on PC
I'm trying to set up PC as hub of new network at home with iBook G4 as only other computer.
Using Airport Express assistant I get the following error message: " The Airport Express Assistant found that Windows is not allowed to manage wireless networks on this computer. This can be as a result of haveing a third party utility that manages wireless networks.
For best results please allow Windows to manage wireless networks."
I'm not sure what third party utility it is referring to - any suggestions?Use the Airport Admin Utility to configure your Airport Express rather than use the Assistant.

hi, i cant manage wireless networks with AC 6.01. Profile "Create" is greyed out and I am not able to create new profiles, can't find new wireless network etc. Few weeks ago, everything was working fine. When I try Fn+F5 and click "Find Wireless Netowork" I got message "Find wireless Network is disabled. Contact your network administrator". I am administrator on computer.
What i found interesting is that if i stop the service "AcPrfMgrSvc" from services.msc, i can find networks but then i cant use AC profiles i.e. cant create profiles and cant connect to any saved profile. This problem gave me real headache. This might be a problem due to any windows update.
I m using Windows 7 on Thinkpad E520. Please helppppp....I don't think this is a Windows update problem. I encountered this same problem
immediately after I allowed Lenovo to update my laptop a month or so ago. (I have
always refused to allow Lenovo to update my system since I didn't trust them -
apparently with good reason - but I finally said OK. (My Windows 7 OS has not been
updated since Nov. 2012.) Lenovo has been no help in fixing the problem they
created (which has put Lenovo at the bottom of my list for future systems - see below.)
I have not tried disabling "AcPrfMgrSvc", I am only commenting on not being able
to Find Wireless Networks. I have read posts/comments in various places saying
to revert to a previous "version" of something (I don't remember what - AC?), but
have found nothing that explicitly states how to do that - as if it should be obvious.
Not helpful either. Documenting that would be the least Lenovo itself could do. (I
did try reverting to a full system backup I had made the day before, but I found I could
not do that without having a system disk that Lenovo said would cost $50 - which also
means NONE of the backups I have done over the last year and a half have any
value?)
So I have pretty much stopped using my two recent Lenovo systems and gone back
to my 9-year old Linux system. -
Setting up a private wireless network to share a website
Hi, I have what I thought was a simple problem but after wandering through google for the past 3 days I can't find a canned solution or a reference I can understand.
This is what I would like to do - share a website on my netbook wirelessly with other machines in my office. Thats it, simple eh ?
OK, seriously, here is some background info, the basic environment and what I would like to do.
1) I do not have admin rights to my office workstation so I can't realistically trial commercial grade software or carry out some basic processing
2) I have repurposed a personal netbook running Windows Ultimate and SQL Server 2008 R2 Express as a secondary workstation so I do my work and possibly trial some reporting software
3) I have IIS running on the netbook
4) The reporting software I want to trial I have used before at another contract but I can't show it here because of 1) above, it is web-browser based zero-client solution
so all I need to do locally is to browse to a website created as part of the software install
5) I'd like to install the software on the netbook and then share its main website with other workstations wirelessly within the office so that other people can simply browse to the
website on the netbook and they can also assess its usefulness to the business
6) I do not want to use any existing wireless networks within the office
7) Potentially multiple users so prefer not to rdp into netbook
8) I would prefer not to have to install any additional software but I can onto the netbook if required
9) Would like to have it accessible by other devices, iPad, iPhone etc, if they can connect to the published wireless network and browse to the main page this should be doable
10) I am a complete ignoramus when it comes to hardware and OS software
Its quite possible that this is simply not an option with my Windows variant - if this is the case thats OK I'll think of something else.
If a router is required would something as basic as a 'D-Link DIR-505' do the trick ? (having said that I've also read its manual and there is nothing in it about being able to share
a service in the manner I require)
What I have tried thus far:
1) Creating an adhoc network secured by WPA-2 - but I don't know what to do with it, I am pretty sure I need certain services on the netbook to be running in order for other computers to discover
it but I don't know what these are
Ideally if someone could point me to a resource that does not discuss any of the following that would be helpful.
What I do not need
1) Sharing an internet connection
2) Sharing an existing wireless network
3) Doing simple file sharing
4) Media streaming
thanksHi,
According to your description, I think you what you want is a wi-fi. if so, you will need a router, each router has a guide to broadcast the wireless connection.
The following guide can also be helpful

Do I really need an Airport device for my home wireless network?
Hi Apple Users,
I am seriously considering purchasing my very first Apple computer: a MacBook Pro to be precise. I'm a very experienced Windows PC user - was a Microsoft Windows & Office -based Help Desk Analyst at my company for 13 years till I was laid off last year. So I know my way around Microsoft Windows computers, Windows LANs, wireless networking & servers, security, etc. I currently own a Dell Precision laptop running Windows 7 - have had it for 3 years with no problems (yet - knock on wood). I have a cable modem with a Motorola SBG900 wireless router / gateway with hardware firewall enabled. Everything is secure, only certain ports are open, etc.
If I buy this MacBook Pro, get it delivered, turn it on, create my logon, etc. will it automatically work with my current wireless router / gateway after going thru the set-up procedure to connect to my network & the internet? Or do I absolutely have to purchase one of the Airport adapters in order for the Mac to talk to the router?
Thank you for being patient with a newbie Apple / Mac User wannabe. I'm very excited!
KimThank you Rysz, but (if you scroll up & read my original post you will discover) I don't own my new MacBook Pro...yet! I'm just researching ahead of time to help me make the decision. The customized MBP I have saved in my cart is over $3000 (incl the 3-yr support plan). So it's going to take me a little bit of research before I decide or before I can really justify the purchase.
I just wanted to be prepared for all the inevitable technical / learning-curve headaches that I will experience IF I take the plunge. And as everyone has experienced, when you're new to and making your first purchase of a different technology, and you don't know what to expect about a purchase, you ultimately get it home, set it up and find it didn't come with all the necessary interface devices, converters or cables, etc. And of course the online purchase procedure wizard doesn't tell you or ask you what else you will need if you want to perform a specific task.
But I'm sure (if) once I do make the purchase, I will definitely be back here to pick everyone's brains! These communities are fantastic. Thanks again! -
No wireless network on Windows 7 boot camp!
Hey fellow Mac users!
I'm having a problem that has been bothering me for the last two days... Once I partitioned my hard drive, and installed Windows 7 on one part, there's no wireless internet connection. I did insert my Mac OS X Snow Leopard DVD once I was in Windows 7 and installed the boot camp thing, which installed all of the drivers. Yet, if I unplug the ethernet cabel (which Windows 7 Troubleshooter told me too) there's no internet connection, and I can't connect to a wireless network, while on Windows 7 (it works great in Mac OS X).
BUT.. I have a clue what the problem might be (or at least whats causing it). If I go into Computer->Properties->Device Manager in Windows, I see that I have a yellow warning sign on the Network Controller, under Other devices.
But if I click the Update driver button, it says that Windows couldn't find any new driver software for this device?? Please help me .Mr Tech,
I did insert my Mac OS X Snow Leopard DVD once I was in Windows 7 and installed the boot camp thing, which installed all of the drivers -
Internet shuts off after a few minutes requiring wireless network reset on windows 8.1
I recently upgraded from windows eight to windows 8.1 I do not know if this has anything to do with anything I have a 64 bit OS. My Internet goes off by itself every 5 minutes even though my wireless icon at the lower right of the screen still shows connected
I had an error message in the last event in it said that might DHCP settings were out of range. I get my internet at my house through a wireless portable hotspot through my smart phone. But i haven't ever had any problems before and i only have this problem
on this network. If i turn airplane mode on and reset my network card, the internet will come back to life but soon die. i don't experience this problem while on a different network or if i'm on WiFi. This s really annoying please help
