Windows BSOD.....

I just acquired a 2009 unibody 15 inch Macbook Pro.  I was using a 2.2 GHz 15 inch Macbook Pro.  I simply swapped the hard drives between them.  Both machines booted right up with no issues.  I opened Windows 7 using Parallels on the newer machine (which now has my old hard drive in - it is much bigger, which is why I did it this way) and it ran just fine.  When I tried to boot into Windows 7 via Bootcamp, it gets to the Windows screen with the slider bar, then it dims & gives me the BSOD.  I really don't want to reinstall Windows yet again, so I am wondering if there is a way to fix this.  Windows ran the startup repair, but the problem is still there.  If I erase the bootcamp partition, then redo it & use Winclone to put my Windows image back, will that work (I made a Winclone image on the old machine before I did the swap)??  Any input will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

Most likely you experience a driver conflict in Windows.
WIndows loads the drivers for the 'old' MBP which seem to cause problems on the 'new' MBP since the hardware has changed.
You could try to hold down the 'F8'-key and choose a Safe-Boot into Windows 7.
Once successfully booted into the safe-mode, try to delete/uninstall the complete BootCamp Drivers.
Reboot again normally after that and install the BootCamp Drivers form the OSX Install DVD that came with the 'new' MBP.
Although the chances are slim, it might work.
Personally I would install Windows 7 fresh on the new MBP.

  • Windows BSOD - IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP

Having a bunch of issues with my pc.. i ve built this a while ago (1.5 years ago-ish).
Recently one of my ssd failed (i had win installed on it). I couldn't install windows successfully on my second ssd because the installation process kept failing.. turns out one of the RAM sticks must ve been corrupt. After I singled out which one it was,
    it all went fine..
Now my win has been running just fine for a day but I started getting BSOD's when in a game or running a video.
Most of the time it gives the error IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, and one time it gave the UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP error.
I did 3 mem tests; my 3 remaining RAM sticks seem to be fine from the memtests' perspective.
I used FurMark GPU Stress Test to see if the video card is one at fault, and got no BSOD as it was pushed to the limit.
The only other things I can think of are PSU and mainboard ?

These crashes were related to memory corruption (probably caused by a driver).
Please run these two tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem.  Please run verifier first.  You do not need to run memtest yet unless you want to.
If you are over-clocking anything reset to default before running these tests.
    In other words STOP!!!
If you do not know what this means you probably are not
1-Driver verifier (for complete directions see our wiki here)
2-Memtest. (You can read more about running memtest here)

Give this a shot at your own risk, although some people on TPF have been praising it...
    http://forums.mydigitallife.info/archive/index.php/t-13124.html
The only reason why I'm saying "at your own risk" is because I haven't tested it personally, because I don't have a machine running W7 with an appropriate GPU.
    Good luck.

  • Windows 2008 R2 does not work on Sunfire X4170

Hi, I recently bought a used X4170 server and have a weird problem. Windows 2008 R2 does not work, but 2012 does. I tried RTM version and a version with SP1. The problem is this:
After installing, I set the password and windows just displays a blank desktop, sometimes it boots but freezes soon after - the mouse cursor moved but nothing else works.
Booting in Safe Mode works and Windows do not freeze. The Event Log contains lots and lots (about 20 per second) of these entries:

    Hello
    Thank you for the update.
Please refer the below Knowledge document related to this issue:

However above document talks about X4170M2, I would suggest you to follow and if issue persist, please open Service Request with Oracle to diagnose further.

  • Integration Builder BSOD

I am haveing an issue with the frontend tools from XI.  I am currently running SAP XI 3 SP16.  On my laptop I have windows XP SP1, Java 1.4.2_05, and a second monitor.  I pull up either/both the "Design" and "Configuration" fine.  Everything works great.  I log in and do my work.  Then when I try to close I get the windows BSOD.
I am assuming that it is a Java problem on my frontend, but was looking to find if anyone else is having the same issue.  And, if anyone knows of a way to fix this.
Also, what version of Java is recommended, can I go to 5.0?  what type should it be, the JRE or SDK?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Paul Ksobiech

This error had to do with Java and my graphics driver not XI.

  • No SATA drives are recognized in Windows but are detected in BIOS.

    *sigh*
    Irritating problem.
First off, here are my computer specs. (Just built it less than a week ago)
    CPU: AMD 64 3500+
    CPU Cooling: Stock CPU Fan
    Mainboard: MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum/SLI
    Mem: Crucial/Mushkin 2GB (4x512)
    HDD: (1) 40GB IDE,(1) 160GB IDE (2) 300GB SATA
    Video: NVidia GeForce 5200
Sound: Internal Sound Blaster Live! 24 Bit
    Misc: (1) DVD+/-RW 16x Drive, (1) 52x CDRW/DVD Combo
Case/PSU: Thermaltake Tsunami Dreams Window Case w/ Thermaltake PurePower 480 Watt PSU
    OS: Windows XP Pro SP2
    Here's the issue.
I have no idea what's going on.
OK, I have a MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum/SLI board that has 6 onboard SATA ports. 2 of these ports are the Sil chipset and the other ports are the NVidia chipset.
I have two 300GB SATA hard drives (Maxtor) hooked up to the Sil channel. (Sata ports 1 and 2) and during boot the system detects them fine. No problems, instantly, as if there was no issue.
I've used these two hard drives in my previous machine so there is a lot of data on it that I do NOT want to lose.
Problem is, neither one of these drives show up in Windows at all!
The driver is installed, according to the Device Manager for the Sil chipset. There are no drives listed under Drive Management other than my IDE drives, and nothing listed under Device Manager either.
If I hook up my hard drives to ANY two other ports, Windows BSOD on boot. I'm thinking because the drivers for the controller aren't installed. But there's only one problem. Device Manager tells me NOTHING about this and I don't have an executable file to install those drivers so I don't know how to install them.
I've been doing research for the last few days, so can someone PLEASE help me?
Oh, and here are two other threads (in a different forum) that I've tried.

    1)Have you set
OnBoard Sil3132 Mode (Bios Onboard Devices)
This setting allows you to select either SATA and RAID mode for the onboard
Sil3132 RAID chip. Setting options: [SATA], [RAID].
    as well as
    OnBoard Sil3132 RAID
2)When you enabled Nvidia sata did you recheck the Hard Disk Boot Priority to ensure that your 40gb system disk was at the top.
Easiest waty Enter Bios Enable SATa, reboot Enter bios & check boot order this also lets you know that bios has detected the sata drives ok, as well as checking the boot order.
As far as the BIOS is concerned, I have the chipset set to "SATA."
And as far as the NVidia SATA for some reason it has a hard time detecting my SATA drives while the Sil chipset has no issues at all detecting the drive. I have it so the IDE HDD is the 3rd boot device while the FDD is first and the CDROM is second, but if I recall correctly the PC attempts to boot from the IDE drive before any SATA drives while on the NVidia SATA ASSUMING that the drives are detected in the first place.

  • Rescue & Recovery BSOD

Every time I try to use the R&R "Optimize Backup Storage Space" feature I get Windows BSOD. After a restart Windows notifies me that it had "recovered from a serious error". I have reinstalled the factory install as well as R&R but the problem persists. Using the latest R&R v. 4.21.0016, Win XP Pro sp3. Otherwise R&R works fine within Windows and from the Recovery partition doing backups and restores. This feature is not a big deal to me, so I will be able to live without it if there is no easy solution.
Update: As my signature shows, I "upgraded" to Vista Business SP1 and this problem went away. Same TP, same version of RnR. Go figure!

  • Satellite C855D-S5305 crashes occasionally

Ok so a few weeks ago it first started crashing (I have had it for about 3 months).
I ran antivirus scans and there's nothing and I was trying to fix it once and it crashed while I was trying and then it had to do a complete system refresh which I'd hoped would at least fix the problem but it did not.
When I restart after a crash I have to troubleshoot the wifi connection or it won't find any connections.
Not sure what's wrong or how to go about fixing it, would hope it's something I can fix myself without having to send it off somewhere.
And not sure what information anyone who could help would need, so ask and I'll try to find whatever you might need to help me.

    Zeta0001 and BarbMoore,
This is how I fixed my Blue Screen of Death crash problems.  I was constantly getting SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION errors.
Install the Windows Updates from March 1, 2013.  There should be 3 of them total KB2818604, KB2794599, and KB2819372.  This should fix the crashes.
If you use Mozilla Firefox and it is also constantly crashing, update to version 19.0.1.  This fixes stability issues with AMD Radeon HD graphic cards.
    http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/19.0.1/releasenotes/
I also updated my laptop BIOS as this was suggested on tomshardware.com forum.  I don't think this step was required but it did fix some functions on my laptop.  Even though I never changed any settings in my BIOS, whenever I opened my laptop lid the laptop would automatically turn on, this feature was disabled in the BIOS.  The BIOS update fixed this.  After the BIOS update I think my numlock key automatically turns on now so that I can use the keypad to type numbers without first hitting the numlock button.  My laptop shipped with BIOS version 6.00.  The updated BIOS Version is 6.20, Size 27,878,911 bytes, Posted 02/20/13, File sc9jv620.exe.  You can download that from here: http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/home.jsp then click "Download" link.
My crashes started happening after installing the Windows Updates that were released on February 12, 2013.  I suspect one of these updates caused my crash problems.  KB2805940, KB2803676, KB2799494, KB2795944, KB2792100, KB2790655, KB2789650, KB2789649, KB2778344, KB2793210, KB2797052.
If you install those 3 updates from March 1, 2013, updated Mozilla Firefox, and updated BIOS and it still does not fix your crash problems.  Then try to check your ram with Memtest86 or Memtest86+ from memtest86.com or memtest.org.  Here's some links that might also help:
    http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/3198-73-system_service_exception-windows-bsod-crash
    http://chinbim.blogspot.ca/2013/02/systemserviceexception-bsod-in-windows-8.html
Also, have you two updated any of your drivers from the Toshiba website?  Why is there a Blu-Ray Disc Player driver listed for the C855D-S5305 laptop, I thought our laptop doesn't have a Blu-Ray drive?  Which drivers have you two updated?  Where did you download your graphics card drivers from, through Windows Update, AMD website, or Toshiba website?
Do our laptops have three USB2.0 or USB3.0 slots?  How do you take off the cover for the HDMI port, is this a real HDMI port or just a fake hole with a cover?

  • Another 'Sorry, a serious error has occurred...'

    Hi Folks,
I searched and tried some of the solutions... deleting style folder, creating a new cache with no joy so far.
    Hoping someone here can help.
Hardware/OS specs at http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9233828/PRE_hardwareinfo.txt (dumped from speccy today)
Prem Elements version 9.01 (N224.08092010.240488) - I tried an update a couple of days ago, so hopefully that's the current flavour of 9.x
    Issue:
Elements has been working perfectly on this machine since buying and installing it back in August 2011 (a couple of weeks before 10 came out )
This week however it has stopped working.
Starting Elements produces the following behaviours
    The welcome screen loads
    I get the Organize/New Project/Open Project screen
If I open an existing project:
Project appears to load (status bar completes)
    Nothing happens
Menus are accessible but most options are greyed out - I can't even deactivate to try a re-install
If I start a new project
I get the New Project Dialog
    Nothing happens as above
If I then try to either open a project or start a new one from the file menu I get the 'Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe....'
Clicking OK does not however close elements down - I can repeat the process ad-nauseum until I shut it down
All other Adobe progs (CS5 Design Premium) are working fine
    Any suggestions?

Thanks everyone for your suggestions I've tried most of them, but I think I'll cut my losses and get a different NLE.
I'll sum up the experience here, not so much for the forum regulars but for those who have come here via a web search having also entered the dead-end street of "Sorry, a serious error has occurred...", or, as I'm coming to know it, the Adobe Grey Screen of Death (or GSOD as it's easily as annoying and difficult to do anything about as the dreaded Windows BSOD).
So, if I understand it correctly, this error is thown up when some unspecified circumstance occurs that Premiere can't cope with.
No clue is provided to the user of what may have caused it
    No log files are created
No entry is made to to the Windows application log
    There is no debug mode
There are at least 20 recorded possible causes for the error
Adobe takes no resonsibility for the issue - it's a problem on the user's machine
Diagnosing the problem, working through all of the documented causes may require a massive commitment in terms of time and effort with no guarantee of success and, looking at some of the many posts on the subject, be detrimental to other applications or the system as a whole.
Premiere is a powerful and relatively easy to use tool, when it was working I thoroughly enjoyed using it. However, when it goes wrong (and reading posts here and elsewhere, it seems to go wrong quite a lot) it crosses the border into crapware - software that is poorly engineered and does not adhere to best practice with regard to error handling. As with any service - the quality of the product is often best measured by what happens when something goes wrong, rather than by how it behaves when everything works.
A sincere thanks to those in this little community that tried to help, but life is too short and my time is too valuable to spend more than a couple of days on this.
I'd advise anyone finding this post when researching for a purchase to look at Premiere as a question of risk management - if it works and continues to work then it's brilliant and offers great value for money. If it breaks then there is a very good chance that you're thoroughly stuffed...
I'm off now to decide between Corel and Sony for my next go at video editing
    Good luck

got 8.1 after I closed my laptop and let it go to sleep if I came back and it came on the screen would be black, but then an error message came up saying the system would have to restart and it would be a different error message every time. Then I guess my
laptop got something bad and I had to redo the whole system and so now were back to windows 8. I'm a bit hard pressed to get 8.1 after all that. If I could figure out the problem I would like to have 8.1 I am actually downloading it again now hoping to look
around some more to fix it. Any ideas?

Sure there are ideas. But since you aren't in the situation where you can re-create "the error" it is impossible to troubleshoot.
I would say the most times I have seen Windows BSOD after a wake from hibernate is due to the computer having an SSD in them and not the appropriate software or drivers. But that is just me.
If you can put Win 8.1 on there again and can get the error, then you could upload the dump files that are created so that others can determine what "the error" is.

  • MSI R4830 OC : The exploding capacitor issue still continuing?

    For reference, my system spec:
    MSI 790FX-GD70 mainboard
AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE
    4GB OCZ Platinum 1600MHz memory
    MSI R4830 OC graphics
    1TB WD & 500GB Seagate harddrives
    OS: Windows 7 Ultimate
System isn't overclocked and has never been.
    The story...
Today after doing a bit of gaming (WoW) all of a sudden my computer BSOD'ed and after the auto-reboot of W7, the bios gave me an error notification saying: "a hyper transport sync flood error occurred on last boot. Press F1 to continue". After just continuing Windows booted fine and I was able to run the regular programs without any issues. Wanting to continue gaming, I again started WoW, and even before I got into the login screen, windows BSOD'ed again, after which the bios again came back with the hyper transport sync error.
Doing some research on the error, I came to a conclusion, that there apperently are many reasons why it occurs, but no single sollution to solve it. So I just continued, let my computer be for a moment, and idle'ing it for a couple of hours. During that time no issues at all.
Until about an hour ago... I wanted to try to get WoW started again and amazingly it did, without crashing. Until I was in the game for about 5 minutes and then the computer did NOT BSOD this time, but immediately did a full powerdown. Trying to power it up again after that failed, after taking the PSU of the mains and plugging it in again, the system would "turn on" for less then a second and immediately powered down again.
Time for some hardware inspection then. Took of the harddrives & dvd (power & sata) to no avail. The system would still only "turn on" for less then a second. Next to be taken out was the graphics card (MSI R4830 OC), after removing it the system would turn on again and stay on this time. So there it was... some sort of failure in the graphics card. After powering down again and inserting the graphics card again and then again trying to turn on the system, back to the previous situation where it would only "turn on" for less then a second.
This made it obvious that there was only a single cause to the entire situation and that's the graphics card.
After inspecting the graphics card I noticed the following:
(Click to see a larger version of the photo)
Note the upper most capacitor, it was bloated and had been leaking. Off all the capacitors on the board (most of them are solid-state caps, only 5 classic caps) this the only one that burst.
Seeing this immediately makes me remember the situation we had about 8 years ago, with exploding capacitors all over the place (I have seen much of my hardware in those year fail due to exploding caps): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague
Considering the location of the capacitor near the power connector of the board, I suspect the capacitor to be related to handling the power supply from that connector. If that is the case, most likely the board might not receive (enough) power from the PSU to power the board, causing the PCI-E power usage to run to high, in turn causing the mainboard to turn of for safety.
How long this capacitor has been blown I don't know, but I wished I would have noted earlier. Until today everything worked fine, but it could very well be this cap was already blown for months.
As a final question, has anyone else recently had any exploding capacitors on MSI products (and I'm not talking about hardware from the problem era, but rather the more recent hardware, in which the capacitor issue should have been solved long time ago)?

The card is produced early 2009, so technically from the period after the issues there were with the bad Taiwanese caps. Out of the 15 caps on the board in total, 10 are solid-states and only 5 are still the old electrolyte ones, of which one obviously blew.
And indeed I am aware of what they are used for and what issues they cause if they go bad. Have seen approx. 20-30 motherboards & another 10 graphics cards fail due to exploding caps during the time where the issue arose with the stolen electrolyte. (Luckily only a few mainboards were actually mine, but had many friends and family members with the issue).
This is the first time I've seen the issue come up since around 2008 when an old socket 7 board blew which was owned by a family member.
I do wonder though how the unstable graphics card is related to the "hyper transport sync flood error", if at least this blown cap is the one and only reason my system BSOD'ed.

  • X200 hangs during restart or shut down when connected to ultrabase

My X200 hangs during a Windows restart or shut down when I'm connected to my ultrabase.  The laptop appears to go through most of the processes to restart/shut down but eventually hangs at a blue screen with unmoveable cursor (note, not a Windows BSOD). I'm forced to perform a hard shut down to turn off the laptop.
This hang at restart/shut down only occurs when I'm connected to the ultrabase.

Just as a thing to try, and this is assuming that you all have an integrated camera, please try this camera driver and let the board know the results:

  • How to GET RID of RAID and get back to IDE??

    Hi,
I have a great Z800 Workstation with a 1.5TB HDD running Win7Pro-64. I've been using an 128GB SSD cache (Synapse/Dataplex) for about a year with no trouble, but stupidly thought that Intel's RST (Rapid Storage Technology) would do a better job, for writing in particular. So I installed RST... and run into touble.
RST put the two disks into a RAID... but since the disks are not the same geometry, and I appear to have an old chipset, it never actually worked: RST was unable to create a cache (i.e. to accelerate the HDD with the SSD) and the SSD became useless, as its Dataplex conroller clashed with the RAID.
In short, I would like to GET RID of the RAID (in view to replace the HDD by an SSD altogether)... but that appears to be impossible: I uninstalled RST and followed the "removdrv.txt" advice to switch (back) from RAID to IDE in the machine Setup... but Windows BSODs unless I keep RAID. Yes, I tried any and every "Repair" options Win7 could offer.
So my question is: how can I get rid of the (fake/useless) RAID and get back to IDE?
    Many thanks for your advice!

I have some bad news for you.
If there is an actual RAID configuration present, then there is no turning back.
Breaking a RAID set destroys data on the set and makes it unbootable. That is why you are seeing the BSOD. If you kep playing with it, eventually it won't even boot up in RAID.
That means starting again from scratch with a new OS install.

  • Black screen in bootcamp

Lately, my Mac Pro (12-core 2.4gHz -- from mid 2010 I believe) is going to a black screen when running Windows after a period of time.  I think it's effectively a Windows BSOD but without the information on screen.  I have to do a hard reboot to get the system running again.
I am suspecting a video card problem since the screen is going dark, but I really don't know what the issue could be.
If it does turn out to be the video card, can I stick any brand of 5770 card in there as a replacement, or does it have to a be an apple branded card?
If I'm only running bootcamp, does it matter what type of card I use?

There are definitive issues with the **ty Radeon X1900 XT. I don't understand when people take offence at this statement. I have had one replaced and another on the way from apple. This is a known HW issue, and it needs to be addressed. Do you have applecare? If so call them and have it replaced (again).
I've started a thread with my "findings" http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1399404&tstart=0 and I will use it to keep track of the problems I'm having. I have not tried running bootcamp on the mac pro, as I use VMWare and it suffices (for me).
There are also good reports on the WoW Message Boards:

    Good luck...
Lets hope apple comes out with a Better solution than the current one.

  • HELP, I cant connect my iphone to my notebook!!

I just got my iphone and activated it for a few hours. Later on the day I tried to connect my iphone with my notebook and the notebook went to BLUE SCREEN. I'd never have this problem with my notebook before. When I went to the "genius bar" for help they just showed me that my iphone is fine the problem is my notebook and i might have to reinstall window. That's not helpful ,is it??!!
p.s.i have tried reinstall itune, quicktime, it doesnt help.

The Windows BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) is difficult to debug. You need the information on the screen to try to identify the problem, but it usually disappears before you can take enough notes. There are programs that will analyze it after the fact, but the output won't be meaningful to you. So lets try to ignore that.
Don't reinstall Windows; that's generally bad advice, and I'm disappointed that Apple suggested it. If you reinstall Windows usually you also have to reinstall all of your applications. While occasionally this is necessary, the conditions when it is are very rare (mostly after a virus infection).
As a first step I would remove iTunes and the Apple Mobile Device Support programs. You do this from the Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs. Remove iTunes first, DO NOT reboot when prompted. Then remove Apple Mobile Device Support and reboot. It's important sometimes to remove iTunes before reinstalling it.
Download the latest version of iTunes from http://www.apple.com/itunes/ and install it and try to sync your iPhone again. Be sure your iPhone connects directly to a USB 2 port on the computer and not through a hub or USB 1.1 port.
If you get another BSOD you can try using System Restore to set the computer back to the state it was in before you installed iTunes. System Restore is in the Accessories/System Tools menu. If that doesn't work (it may not because iTunes installs a driver, which cannot be replaced while Windows is running). You can boot to Safe mode to do the restore, which has a better chance of working (see your computer's documentation on how to do this).
Let us know how it works out; if you still have problems there are still other options to try.
