Windows can't connect to shares on Lion Server

I can't connect any windows machines (XP, Vist, or 7) to a Mac Pro running Lion Server. When attempting to connect, the windows user is prompted for credentials, and nothing entered in this box works even the server admin account info, once entering account credentials, it comes back with NAMEOFWINDOWSCOMPUTER\USER as if it's trying to sign into a domain, which we don't have domains.
I can't seem to find anything relevent when searching...

There are a couple things you can try:
1.\ go to the apple server, sys prefs, sharing, selct file sharing and then select option. from there make sure the both check boxes are selected. then select done.
2.\ while you are there, in the shared folders section, selct the folder you would like to share (or add if its not) and make sure the user is in the users pane that you want to share the folder with.
3.\ restart your windows machine to make sure it forgets any passwords you may have put in.
4.\ if it still doesnt ask for a user account go to map network drive. and select the option to put another username and password in. for the user name user SERVERNAME\username - ensure the servername is in CAPITAL letter...
hope this helps...

  • Server App can't connect to a Mountain Lion server

    Hi,
I installed OS X Mountain Lion Server (2.2.1) on a 2012 Mac Mini running OS X 10.8.4. I am able to access all the options using the Server.app on the Mini. Then I installed the Server.app (2.2.1) on a 2010 MacBook Pro running 10.8.4. On trying to configure the Server options on the Mac Mini from the MacBook Pro by providing the correct Mac Mini admin credentials, the password is not validated correctly. This happens when both the systems are on the same network or on different networks.
I am certain that the username / password provided is correct, since using the same credentials I can successfully remote into the Mac Mini using Apple Remote Desktop (3.6.1) when both the systems are on the same network or on different networks.
My situation supersedes the resolution provided in http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3960?locale=en_US. Note that the command sudo launchctl list | grep -q com.apple.servermgrd && echo loaded || echo not loaded returns loaded on the Mac Mini.
    Please help!

I am having exactly the same setup and exactly the same problem - nevertheless I would like to add some more information in order to hopefully find / get help from other readers in here.
I am using DynDNS - not a dedicated domain. I do not utilize an AirPort Extreme for port forwarding and else. All the necessary port forwardings were triple checked!
    - First of all "Apple Remote Desktop" is able to connect to my server over the internet (screen sharing) and locally in my LAN. No troubles here.
    - My iOS devices can connect using various VNC clients without any troubles.
    - VNC connections started within Safari (MacBook Pro) do work very well, too.
    - All kinds of WebDAV connections are working like a charme.
    - When connecting with "Server.app" from my MacBook Pro it asks if I would like to trust the self-signed certificate before I can enter name and password. After trusting that certificate it doesn't matter which account information I am entering: none is accepted. It does not make any difference if I am using a local user account or a user network account (both configured as being allowed to administer that server). "Server.app" does not accept any information provided.
I've been following the KB advice, too that c xavier mentioned. "servermgrd" is loaded!
For some odd yet unknown reason neither WAN nor LAN FTP login does work, too. It just gives me a time out, as already mentioned WebDAV is working fine.
Sorry I could not help You, c xavier! I just thought that some additional information could help...

  • Can't connect to the modem's server.

Hi guys, I have a major problem.
When ever I connect to the internet with my modem, it works. But, when I connect to internet with my router and modem, I can't connect. But I have solved my problem by resetting both, my wireless router and modem. Then after I reconfigure my wireless router all I need to do is to log into my modem's server. But I can't connect to the modem's server. I tired logging in with "admin" (being the password) but I still can't connect to it.
I am using: Verizon Broadband Network
Ultra RangePlus Wireless-N Broadband Router model: WRT160N
                     Westell modem model 6100
What is the problem? Has anyone experienced this problem before?
Message Edited by machg on 04-11-2009 07:10 PM
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You will not be able to log  into the modem as long as the router is plugged in
You must configure the modem first to bridge mode, then plug in the router and log into it
1.)unplug router and have only the modem in
           go to 192.168.1.1 enter
that will take you into the verizon modem/ if you have reset the modem then your user is; admin
                                                                                                                         your password is ; password
once you lopg into that it will ask you to change the username/password
just type in ADMIN in all 3 blanks
now you are logged into the modem;;;;;;go to network at the top, then network connections on the left, broadband connection ,you will then put your protocol on bridge/routed bridge,
now go to wireless settings at the top and make sure wireless is turned on
you have the option to set up a security key on basic security settings
once your modem  resets then plug in your router, you are now in bridge mode and the modems connection has moved to your router.  you must restart modem and computer for everything to take effect....
also make sure and refresh your network list on your laptop
    Hope this works

Can I connect my application to mssql server ?

Perhaps you could help the process along by being a little more specific. Is this an in-house application. Will it ever leave your local network? Or does it need to run over the internet? Regardless, the best option will likely be some type of REST web service that any client can use.

  • How can SQLDeveloper connect to 10g DB on server but UI cannot

How can SQLDeveloper connect to 10g DB on server but the User Interface on local laptop cannot? What does the UI need that SQL Developer doesn't need?

What kind of UI are you talking about?
SQL Developer can use different type of connection method to connect to Oracle database.
For example, basic method of SQL Developer is JDBC Thin connection, in which case, SQL Developer will use JDBC driver that come with it, don't need any other thing installed.
SQL Developer also can use TNS method which will require Oracle client installed and TNS names configured.

  • Can't connect to the Software Update server (lionserver.t3m.private)? Please help!

Has anyone experienced this; Can't connect to the Software Update server (lionserver.t3m.private)?
I can no longer sync my iPhone as it needs an iTunes update. When I select update software and I get the error message above.

If you are getting the error message "Unable to check for update" when you try an OTA (over the air update)
    Change DNS Servers
    Settings -> Wi-Fi
Click the blue arrow on your connected network
Delete everything in DNS and replace it with 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220
    Try again
If this works, you will probably want to remove the WiFi network using "Forget This Network" and then reconnect to it to get your original DNS servers back. Alternatively, make a note of the original DNS servers before deleting them and replace it after you are done.
If you are getting the error message "Unable to check for update" when you try through iTunes
    On your Mac
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and then click Network.
Select the network connection service you want to use (such as Wi-Fi or Ethernet, unless you named it something else) from the list, and then click Advanced.
Click DNS, and then click Add at the bottom of the DNS Servers list. Enter the IPv4 address for the DNS server.
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
You can Google Public DNS if you want
    8.8.8.8

    Hi,
Our remote users had been connecting to our Exchange server at our office since the Exchange server was installed in 2011.
Starting last Wednesday, Outlook 2010/2013 clients, outside of our main office, can't connect to our Exchange 2010 server.  Outlook kept asking for a username and a password.  At the same time, entries of Event 4625 were generated on the Event
    log on out Exchange server.
Events 4625 has the following properties, "Logon Type: 3", "Failure Reason: An Error occured during Logon.", "Status: 0xc000006d", "Logon Process: NtLmSsp", and "Authentication Package: NTLM".
By the way, I had used a laptop to test this problem.  Its Outlook work fine ion the main office, but it won't work outside of our office.
    Does anyone have any idea?
    Thanks.

  • Safari can't connect to the web proxy server (HTTP)

    Hello,
I have following problem. I need to connect to the internet using a proxy server. I went to System Preferences/Network/Wi-Fi/Advanced.../Proxies. Then, I selected Web Proxy (HTTP) and enetered server's IP address and port. It looks like I did everything correctly, but Safary can't open any page because "Safari can't connect to the web proxy server (HTTP)". Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

    There are three possibilities:
    1. You entered the wrong address and port number for the proxy.
    2. You entered the wrong user name and password, if applicable.
    3. The proxy doesn't work or is incompatible.

If you can't restart your Apple TV because it's unresponsive, try the following:
Hold down Menu and Down on the Apple Remote for six seconds, and then release when you see the indicator light on the Apple TV blink rapidly.
Unplug the Apple TV power cord for three seconds, and then plug it back in.

  • Windows computers can not access smb-shares in Lion

I have updated von SL to Lion Server. Now, I don't gave Access to my Windows shares from any Windows Computers. If I connect a Windows share u.e. froom Windows 7 Workstation I will see a window with username and password for the share. But the username und password from lion for this share will not work. It was no problem in SL. Any idea?

To get this to work on windows 7 I...:
    Start > Computer
Disconnected my mapped netowrk drive that would not connect
Selected the Map network drive button in the toolbar at the top
Typed in the folder location manually (if you try the browse it will fail)
    Selected Connect using different credentials
    Selected Finish
On the credentials screen that pops up:
User name: <SERVER\username>I found that my server name had to be in capitals (/private/var/log/krb5kdc/kdc.log helps you know exactly what it is)
    Password: <your password>
    Select Remember my credentials
    Select OK
After this i found no issues access any of the shares on the server and everything came back to life

  • Windows 7 users on AD cannot mount Lion Server shares

    Mac mini server 10.7.4
Local users set up (NOT Active Directory users, nor is it tied to AD services--by design)
All shares set to AFP and SMB.
Mac users can log in and access the shares fine. I can connect on my Windows 7 fine but mine is not connected to the domain.
AD users cannot access the shares using the \\[ip-address] line in Windows Explorer. Windows 7 wants to put the domain in front of their name which doesn't result in a connection. I've tried to use the "other account" feature and that fails too. Per an older support article, we tried the [subdomain]\[server name] in that "other account" line and that failed too.
There's something in the way Active Directory credentials are stored on Windows 7 that's preventing my users from accessing their shares.
Short of connecting to the domain (which is NOT desired at this point), is there anything I can try to connect these users to the server? Ideas?

    Hi,
Do you mean that if you restarted the server then users can log on to their PC's? If so, the issue most likely caused by third party software, such as antivirus software. Please refer to the thread below to troubleshoot the issue:

  • Mac OS X Server v10.7 does not show the ethernet link aggregated interface I created in Server Hardware Network Dialogue window. Are link aggregated ethernet connections not supported in Lion Server?

Mac OS X Server v10.7 does not show the ethernet link aggregated interface i created. Does Lion server support ethernet link aggregated interfaces?

    Thanks for responding Cold--
Hardware: Mac Pro  3.0 GHZ quad core xeon
I read the link but it still does not explain why the aggregated dual ethernet interface does not show up in the Network tab of the hardware section Lion Server. I was able to see it on the network and looks to be using a single static IP that I assigned. My concern was that is this supported and will it allow for failover and double performance of the single network interface.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks again!

  • Vista users can't connect to 10.5.6 Server

    Hello world...
I have a problem connecting users running Vista to Mac OSX Server 10.5.6; I've done a search here but I didn't find anything useful.
When Vista try to connect to the server with a valid username/password it is rejected, but if I try to connect from a XP client it connects without any problem.
    Anyone can help me?
    Thank you
    Stefano

If you don't want extensive details around Microsoft Windows variants and offerings, please stop reading now.
Microsoft Windows XP has (had?) Home, Professional, Media Center Edition, Tablet PC Edition, Professional x64 Edition, and the Windows Vista flavors include (included?) Starter, Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, Ultimate and Enterprise Edition, and the Windows Server 2003 variant has (had?) 32-bit, 64-bit x64, and 64-bit Intel Itanium variants, and has (had?) Web, Standard, Enterprise and Datacenter editions.
Caveats: The Microsoft product offerings list has very likely changed since I researched this particular list of Windows offerings a year or two back. Some packages that I suspect are no longer offered include Windows XP 64-bit for Itanium, and probably some others. There are cases where the names of the various Windows editions have changed, as well. These Windows editions can and often do vary in capability and platform support, and in regional availability. And I haven't been looking at the MS-DOS-descended platforms; only at the NT descendants.
Not all of these Windows variants have the secpol.msc tool. AFAIK, the Windows XP Home and Windows Vista Starter and the Home variants do not. I'm not sure about Windows XP 64-bit for Itanium as I wasn't running that for very long; that was probably the Professional variant, so it would have had the secpol.msc tool.
When presented with the basic "I can't connect to CIFS/SMB/Samba share or a NAS device" problem report, I usually edit the registry key for the user. That tends to works on more of the variants than the secpol.msc tool. But both are valid approaches.
Please check with Microsoft for the current Windows product offerings, features and related details. And for the correct means for adjusting NTLM authentication. In particular, do read the Microsoft knowledge base articles including [KB954387|http://support.microsoft.com/kb/954387], and various others.
Now if y'all will excuse me, it is time to go debug some Cocoa code.

  • Can't connect to Mac Mini (ML Server)

I have a Mid-2009 Mac mini that's running the latest Mac OS X 10.8 Server. It's connected to my TV via HDMI.
For a long time, I had no issues connecting to it via Screen Sharing, SSH or AFP but recently all three will mysteriously fail. I know the machine is working because I stream iTunes content to my Apple TV and it's hosting a couple of web sites that it serves up just fine. The only attached peripheral is a Drobo S (2nd Gen) attached via FW 800. Drobo Dashboard and the firmware are completely up-to-date.
When it stops working, I have no alternative but to A) wait until I get home and B) force the machine off and reboot it. After a reboot, Screen Sharing, AFP and SSH all work fine for a while. It seems to conveniently fail when I'm away and need to get to it.
Note that it fails on all three protocols from outside AND inside. So this isn't a network routing or port forwarding issue. I'm a Mac IT professional with 15 years under my belt, so I think I know what I'm doing in that regard. Like I said it's worked fine for years and it's only been lately that these failures have been happening.
I can't seem to identify any rhyme or reason for this. It's a fairly clean installation with almost no 3rd party software installed on it.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

"Screen Sharing is currently being controlled by the Remote Management Service"
I've been fidgeting between the Server.app server Settings tab and the Screen Sharing checkbox in System Preferences Sharing pane all day.
I had tried "Share Screen" via Finder. After I tried "Share Screen" via Server.app from my client computer I noticed the above warning message when Screen Sharing in the server's System Preference Sharing pane was highlighted. I'm not sure which is cause or effect.
Everything is checked on the server "Settings" tab in Server.app on the server. Only "FIle Sharing," "Remote Login" and "Remote Management" are checked on the Sharing pane in System Preferences on the server.
Everything is checked on the server "Settings" tab in Server.app on the client. In this case, "Allow remote administration using Server" is checked and grayed out. "Screen Sharing" is checked on the Sharing pane in System Preferences on the client. (It may not have anything to do with a successful screen share connection, but it is on.)
Everything is now working better than expected. Thanks to you both for your help!

  • Can't connect to my work exchange server 2003

I am one of the only people in my office with a Mac and my IT dept. refuses to assist me. Therefore, I am forced to try to resolve issues myself (which is not working out).
I have successfully sent mail through the company's outgoing mail server, but I cannot connect to the incoming mail server to receive my messages.
On a side note: I have entourage 2004 running successfully with no problems other than the program is crippled compared to outlook on windows. I want to run Apple's Mail program but can't get working, and I'm sick of running Outlook through Parallels.
To configure Outlook and Entourage all I need to put in is the exchange server path (and login info) and it configures the rest. So how do I know what the outgoing and incoming paths are for Apple Mail? Are they the same? I right now I have both the incoming and the outgoing set up with the same exchange server paths hwmxmsg05.hotels.ad.**.com.
Any Ideas? Another post mentioned make sure certain things are configured on the server side? What would they be as I need to relay them to someone who knows.
    Thanks!!!
    24" iMac Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I feel your pain. I also am a lone Mac user in an entire building full of PC robots, and the IT people haven't got a clue.
I've been trying to get Mac mail working with the Exchange server here, but it's just not happening. I've managed to get Entourage working though, which is far from ideal but significantly better than the web-based version of Outlook that I'd been having to use up till now.
For entourage, then yes - the incoming and outgoing servers are the same. You may need to ask your recalcitrant IT people which port numbers to use, but give it a whirl anyway.
    Best of luck,
