Windows crashes upon Java exit.

Firstly, I apologise that I know very little about Java and if I've omitted any important information here I may need precise instructions on how to find it out.
According to the Add/Remove Programs menu, I have 'JS2E Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6', version '1.5.0.60' installed.
My problem is that, in any of the following situations, Windows crashes and I either get a BSOD reporting a 'stop error', or my computer reboots itself:
1) I exit the Java Control Panel, attempt to clear temporary files using the Java Control Panel, or exit certain settings windows/message boxes from the Java control panel (Always occurs)
2) I exit Limewire (which I assume has some embedded Java applet) (Always occurs)
3) I exit a Java executable (.jar file) (Always occurs)
4) I exit Internet Explorer or Firefox (sometimes occurs. I think it's safe to assume this is when I've visited a site with a Java applet, but I haven't tested this)
5) I end the javaw.exe process from Windows Task Manager (always occurs)
6) I attempt to uninstall Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6 from the Add/Remove Programs menu (always occurs. The crash happens a good while into the uninstallation, however)
Is this a known issue? What is the cause/possible cause? How can it be resolved, given that I can't uninstall Java?

This is a long shot, but anti-aliasing and/or video driver problems seem to cause most of the crashes. So try the following and respond back whether it worked or not.
Make sure you have anti-aliasing set to Application-Controlled: http://www.java.com/en/download/help/5000041100.xml
Make sure you've updated to the latest video drivers.
Make sure Directx is updated to the latest version.
If that still doesn't work read http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=661574 and then try adding to your environment JAVAOPTIONS variable -Dsun.java2d.d3d=false. If that doesn't work try -Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true
If the problem was AA, then and you still want to force all 3d applications to use AA and you don't want to keep changing your graphics card display options, you can disable java's use of the Direct3D by setting an environment variable JAVAOPTIONS to -Dsun.java2d.d3d=false. This will allow you to keep your AA settings. Disabling Direct3D is the proposed update to 1.5 (Update 8) to fix this bug. See http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6311320

I have started FF in Safe Mode and the error comes up. I've uninstalled it, renamed the install directory and still the error persists. I've updated the plugins to no avail. In Windows 7, this issue does not occur. Since it crashed upon exit, the Crash Recorder doesn't come up.

I've already started Firefox in Safemode and the same issue persists. I've also gone in and manually disabled all add-ons and againk the same issue.

Runnning Genuine CS6 Photopshop, Illustrator and Indesign crash upon opening  without any error message... worked fine then stopped working.  Running it on Window 8 64-bit.  Have tried opening without 3d party plugins, resetting preferences, and uninstalling and reinstalling.

    did you clear the caches?
and onthe off-chance that ID got far enough to leave something behind, find the InDesign Recovery folder (a hidden folder, I think, since Snow Leopard or Lion) and empty it if there's anything there.

  • Firefox crashes upon opening, and randomly - Windows XP.

What I'm experiencing is that FireFox crashes upon most start-ups. it also crashes randomly. Be it known, it has been doing this in safemode, too. It has been doing this before any plugins were installed, and it has been doing it since FireFox 12 or FireFox 13.
Oddly enough, my folder for where the crash reports SHOULD go is completely empty.
    Current version: 22.0
What should I do from here?

    Hello,
Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
    Then perform these steps:
*Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
*In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
*In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
*Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
    * [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
    * [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
    Thank you.

  • Error and crash upon saving

    Hi,
I am experiencing an issue very similar to the one described in (http://forums.adobe.com/message/243559#243559). I have several RH projects that have started crashing/closing when I save changes. The projects are all several years old, of varying sizes (15-200 topics), and were converted when I upgraded to RH 8 last fall. Initially, I had some trouble with the conversions, but attributed it to working with a trial version of the software while waiting for the company purchase of the full license. After receiving the license code and installing the available patches, the projects seemed to function fine for close to a month before this started happening.
    Other information:
    ·        I am using: Windows XP Professional SP3, Intel T2500 @ 2.00GHz, 2.00 GB RAM, RH 8.0.2.208. (RH HTML)
    ·        I archive files on a network drive, but work on all projects on a local drive.
    ·        The projects are not under source control.
    ·        I do not have this issue when working with the RH CCC sample project.
I tried deleting the .cpd file before opening the project. The project still crashes upon changing and saving any topic.
I created a new project and imported some topic files. The project worked fine until I closed and re-opened it. Then, the project returns to crashing upon saving. I tried this several times with exactly the same result.
I don’t understand how this is related, but the only success I’ve had is deleting a line of HTML from the topics that references a javascript. If I remove the following line from a topic (save and crash the project) and then re-open the project (the change removing the line of code does save), I can then successfully save changes in that topic without crashing RH.
    <script language="javascript" src="writetitle.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
I have been able to repeat these results with multiple topics. If I put the line back in, the project crashes upon saving – take it back out and I can save changes to that topic again. I can close and re-open the project and it performs the same.
The code is used in conjunction with a master template that contains a feedback form. The project crashes upon saving whether or not the topic is not using that template.
I hate to simply remove this line of code since I don’t really understand how or if that is fixing the problem and because that is what lets me know which topic any feedback is pertaining to. Thanks for any help.
    TNSdoc2

I don't know javascript from HTML. Here is what has worked for me. I open the Broken Links dialog. I open a listed topic using the Edit button. I find and fix the broken link. I save the topic. RH8 crashes. I jump to my open RoboSource screen and check in the topic that just crashed. When I reopen the RH8 project, the link generally shows as fixed and I can move on to the next.
In the event the check in function failed, RH8 displays a dialog asking whether I want to leave or replace the local topic from RoboSource. I have found that using the Merge button has resolved the issue so that the project remains active and the link is repaired.

  • Firefox keeps crashing upon starting, how do I stop this?

My PC crashed some days ago, after rebooting firefox was no longer working. It does start up, but doesn't allow me to do anything and after a few seconds it crashes and shows the error report, often this already happens the second I try to fire up firefox. I have tried rebooting my PC several times thinking this was the issue. After the problems continued I have uninstalled firefox, making sure no traces of firefox were left anywhere for old data to be around and it spiraling into the same error, I have tried installing an older version of firefox but it still crashes upon opening. It opens 2 tabs of which 1 will probably be the congratulations you have succesfully installed firefox and the other being the home page, however I can't confirm this as they don't load. The same goes for the TOR browser which works on a FF basis. I don't know what could fix the issue and hope for some answers that will solve the issue.
    Cheers and thanks in advance.

It looks like you may me having an issue from what I could intially see with an add-on or extension which is causing the crash. Restart FF in safe mode to see if this fixes the issue
'''Try the Firefox Safe Mode''' to see how it works there. The Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.''

    * You can open the Firefox 4.0+ Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or use the Help menu item and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.

''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shift key) to open it again.''

  • Firefox crashes upon open - won't send crash report; crash report info summarized below

I have one computer that crash every time I start Firefox. Ocassionally the firefox window will appear for less than a second and then the Crash Report Window shows up; most times it goes right to Crash Report Window. Then it is for some reason unable to send the crash repor; it keeps looping back to the crash report. I've checked my modem and router are operating correctly; I have another computer that's working fine. I've run scan for Trojans, viruses and still see the problem. Any help would be very much appreciated as I'm stuck at this point. For what it's worth, Internet Explorer has the same problem, crashing upon opening.

Hello. I have a similar problem to the question of Ryan Vaught, (Firefox crashes upon open - won't send crash report; crash report info summarized below [MY] Firefox version: prior one to 3.6.7 Operating System: Windows XP Provessional). Mine is a bit different tho. Firefox seems to be crashing and my internet crashes right with it. When it does this, it also takes out some Win32 system .exe files. I too have ran AVG (Full Coverage /Purchased one) and then updated to Viper (Sunbelt Software) and it comes up clean of any viruses, etc. Once it crashes and I close Firefox, the crash report request comes up. When I hit send, it says it cannot be sent with no additional information as to why. I just updated Firefox to 3.6.7 and sure hope this helps, but it almost always happens when I am playing games that use flash. I can send a screenshot if you need it and feel free to edit my question if need be. I've checked my Viper settings and can get to all the websites so far trying to rule it out. Deleted my internet set up and then added it back as a new connection (hope that made sense), so I don't know who to be asking this question of, but hoping you may know the answer why I can't send the crash report. Whew! Sorry for the lengthy question/issue. Your help is greatly appreciated!! Carolyn Burnam

  • Firefox will not open more than one window and upon restarting will not open the previous tab and refuses to open bookmarks

Firefox does not open more than one window. I can open plenty of tabs, but not more than one window. Upon closing firefox and trying to restart the browser will not open and needs to be closed through windows task manager. Upon trying to re-open Firefox I receive the 'oops this is embarassing , firefox cannot re-open your tabs" message. When I click on "new session" the bookmarks do not load. It is becoming very frustrating as I am a student and often do lots of research on the web while using lots of open windows.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    See:
    * [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
    * [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
    See also "Hang at exit":

  • "Software Update" crashes upon download

Last week I was given a new Mac mini as a gift; I upgraded the memory to 2G; did Target Disk transfer from my old G4, then started using it (didn't use it before the memory or the transfer).
Software Update crashes at the point when the download has just started, every time, even with individual small downloads. Other symptoms: Safari crashes upon start-up, any Widgets that look up info crash when they go get data. Firefox works but crashes accessing some video, same with Explorer.
I have manually downloaded and upgraded to OSX 10.4.9. System can't recognize/mount the .dng download file to upgrade to 10.4.10 (I manually downloaded the Combo Intel). Java is 10.4.2, but when I try to install Java 10.4 Release 5, it tells me to upgrade to the previous version first (which is already installed).
I suspect this is a Java and downloading glitch. Does Software Update rely on Java? Any ideas? I've searched the message boards for this problem, but haven't found anyone else with this problem.
Many thanks in advance for any suggestions.

    MarkinArlington wrote:
Thank you for your reply. I used the Setup Assistant to migrate from my G4.
That's probably the cause of your issues. Apparently, the Setup Assitant will sometimes migrate (PowerPC-specific) system files over to Intel-based Macs (causing many odd problems), so using it to migrate from a PPC to an Intel Mac isn't recommended.
Unfortunately, you will have to re-install Mac OS X to solve your issues (trying to figure out which specific files are causing the issues will probably be too long, with little chance of success); I don't know whether an Archive & Install is enough to fix this, but perhaps someone else knows? Otherwise you could ask in the Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger > Installation & Setup forum. If you need to do an Erase & Install, you will lose all data on your hard drive, so you'll need to create a backup of all your user files first.

It has stopped crashing because somehow it turned off "Enable GL Drawing" on its own because I could never even get a menu open.  Not sure how it did that but I am grateful.  I still get the error when I open Photoshop up but at least it hasn't crashed yet.  At the time when it was crashing I never would have been able to get you the system info due to the speed that it was crashing upon just opening the program.  In case you still need it:

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader 10.1.2 Print Issues - Windows Crash Error (2 Sided)

Have recently had issueswith our upgrades from 10.1.1 to 10.1.2 in regards to the following:
When printing 2 sided on a Fuji Xerox Firefly C4400 Atheros, application crashes after printing first 4 pages.
Thus, have tried the patch fix that was recommended on cpsid_92870 however this has not fixed the problem.
Have also tried the solution with the duplexing but still same issue, Windows crashes.
Have also tried solution to remove Windows patch KB4332667 and still same issue.
Screen shots will be provided upon request with the errors.
    Currently running:
    Windows XP SP3
    Adobe Acrobat Reader 10.1.2
Printer Drivers are the latest and over 500 users on network. 485 are working on 10.1.1 which do not have this issue.
Is there any solution or 10.1.3 patch release that will address this issue?
Last Adobe user to work on this was Atul.

Sonal2890, thanks for your inquiry and I will try to provide as much information as possible.
    1. What happens if inspite of using 'Print on both sides', you check Duplex setting from Properties dialog (As you do previously)?
The Adobe Reader X Shuts down and is unable to print and displays a message stating it has incurred a problem. Please note, we are running IE7.
    2. What happens if you print with any other application (Word/notepad)
The documents print fine. IT is only when you print this particular document which is enabled in protected mode and double sided. Have tried the patch and the resolution of unticking the duplex methodology and the issue still persists.
Crash Logs have already been submitted already. Have added the SEnd Error Report that was provided when the error occurs. The PDF stopped printing after page 6 of a 236 page document and provided the error above.

  • IPhoto 6.0.1 Crashes upon launch!

    Hi,
Just installed iPhoto 6.0.1 and ran it successfully exactly once, it updated my library and thumbnail cache. Shortly thereafter, my system went nuts. iPhoto locked up. Then app after app kept locking up, including the Dock, until the system became unusable. Seems that the OS was still running underneath, but the GUI was fragged. Shortly I had to forcibly reboot my machine.
Now, iPhoto crashes upon launch. I repaired permissions and deleted iPhoto's preferences file to no avail.
    I'll try reinstalling iLife...
    Anything else I should try?
Well anyway, everything is safely backed up, so I can easily go back to iPhoto5... and wait for iPhoto 6.0.2... :-/
    Cheers,
    Damian

    Damian:
Here is one or two things you can try. First, boot into single user mode and run the file system check, fsck, as follows:
    FSCK - File System Check
To start up in single-user mode
    1. Restart the computer.
    2. Immediately after the startup sound, press and hold both the Command (Apple) and "s" keys on your keyboard. The computer will display a series of text messages, at which time you may release these keys.
When the computer has started up, it will display a command line prompt (#). The computer is now in single-user mode.
How to Run the File System Check from the Command Line
Once you have reached a command line, follow these steps to use fsck:
    1. At the prompt, type: fsck -fy (NOTE, there is a space between the k and the “-”)
The fsck utility will go through five "phases" and then return information about the disk's utilization and fragmentation. Once the check is finished, if no issue is found, you should see "** The volume <name of volume> appears to be OK."
If fsck alters, repairs, or fixes anything, it will display the message:
**** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED ***
IMPORTANT: If this message appears, repeat the "fsck -fy" command until this message no longer appears. It is not unusual for your computer to require several "passes" of fsck, because first-pass repairs may uncover additional errors. Run it until you get two consecutive times with an "OK" result.
    3. When fsck reports that no problems were found, type: reboot
    4. Press Return.
This is something I do immediately after getting a system crash.
If that doesn't fix the problem try deleting the preference files for iPhoto and the other apps and see if that won't let them launch successfully. You can also manually set the permissions on the iPhoto Library folder as follows:
Setting Permissions for iPhoto Library Folder
1 - Select the iPhoto Library folder and type Command-I.
2 - When the Info window comes up go to the Ownership and Permissions section and make sure You have Read & Write permission and that the Owner and Group have Read & Write also. Others - Read Only.
3 - Then click on the "Apply to enclosed items..." button.
If you have your V5 iPhoto Library folder backed up you can go back to V5 if desired. You will have to delete the current application and all files with iPhoto in the file name that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder before the installer will let you install V5.
