Windows Server batch to resize TEMP tablespace.

I was wondering if it's possible to use windows server 2003 batch jobs to RESIZE TEMP tablespace.
Here are some details:
Windows Server 2003
Oracle 10gR2
We do a windows batch job to backup all files on Oracle directory (.ctl, .dbf, etc) to a different server. With autoextend on, the TEMP.dbf gets to be really big. What I am wanting to do is reduce the size of the TEMP.dbf before backing up the files - to reduce the back up time.
Since alter database tempfile 'c:\oracle\...' RESIZE 10M is a SQL command; is there a way I can resize it through the windows batch job? If so, mind pointing me the way?

A mistaken sort has caused the temp tablespace to grow to big and I need to reclaim the space. We are running Oracle 9.2 on windows 2000. I tried:
alter database tempfile 'filename' resize 4m and got file contains user data beyond requested resize value. How can I reclaim this space?

You could add another tempfile to your temp tablespace, setting a max size if you don't want it to grow beyond a certain limit, then drop the overgrown tempfile. For ex.:
1. alter tablespace temp add tempfile '...' size 500M reuse autoextend on next ... maxsize 3000M;
2. alter database tempfile '...' drop;
I don't think you can rename tempfiles, so if you must reclaim the old file name you'd have to reverse the order above. I'd do it during off peak hrs :)

Windows Server 2008R2 profile unload impossible due to Temp "Z@.." files

We are supporting many environments for different customers.
Unfortunately they all share the same issue, which is caused by the combination of Windows Server 2008R2 and Adobe Reader 11.
The files are located in "C:\Users\Some-User\AppData\Local\Temp\2\acrord32_sbx\[email protected]"
There are many folders, for one user sometimes up to 20 folders (user.domain.001, user.domain.002 etc), collecting up to wazoo.
Removing hotfixes do not solve the issue, neither does the two provided acroct.ini files (to be placed in \windows\ folder).
All Servers are up2date on Windows update, conform a Patch Policy we maintain.
We have tried removing Windows updates, ofcourse with a deny on the patch policy so that it doesnt return, but the issue stays occurring.
I'd prefer to have this issue resolved by installing a patch - Instead of removal of patches.
As I am searching for a way to directly contact Adobe Support, I could only opt-in on this forum to get support afaik.
If needed, I can put down more information ofcourse.
Server info:
Hypervisor: VMware 5.1
OS:     Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 (used as Terminal Server, one of 5 servers total)
RAM:     12GB Memory
Adobe Reader version:     Adobe Reader XI (11.0.06)

I have read many many articles for this issue.
Outcome is, like from this Blog, Adobe has to re-code Reader.
We have tried alot of ways to get this fixed, but neither uninstalling MS Patches, nor the AcroCT.ini files (yes both) are a fix for us.
If Adobe Reader needs to use temporary fonts for printing the PDF files, they have to Force unload and clean up the temporary fonts/files. (Font Installation and Deletion (Windows))
Since MS14-045: Description of the security update for kernel-mode drivers: August 27, 2014 there is a new behavior for Font and Font Resource installation/deletion.
Since Adobe Reader has NO support channel, NO way of contacting other than the forums:
How on earth could we get this to be fixed in a new release???

We are facing this problem with over 10 customers on over 600 Remote Desktop Servers - No way I am going to remove patch #1 from August 2014, which is being re-deployed in a newer fix every month..
The root cause is the programming in Adobe, which had been conform Microsoft's wishes, but this behavior change in removal has to be remarked to Adobe...

What do you recommend to resize a partition on Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition SP2?

I am running Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition SP2 and only have 2.74GB of hard drive space left on a 11.9 GB hard drive. My D:\ drive has 37.5GB of free space left on a 124GB Hard drive. I would like to know what software is
recommended to repartition drive size or another way to repartition drive.

You just need to shrink partition D and get some unallocated space, and then you can extend the system drive with the Unallocated space. There is no need to delete or format partitions.
The most important is guarantee data security. I have such experience resizing partitions.
The partition tool required reboot to process, after a while power off in my office, I know the Server must be damaged. Later, when I turn it on, I cannot believe, it continue to process and reboot to desktop several minutes later. What a lucky man.

Running an External Program from Batch on Windows Server 2008R2 Failing

Hi,
I am trying to run an external program from a batch job and it is failing with this error message:
Ext. prog.: ERROR: Input redirection is not supported, exiting the process immediately.
Ext. prog.: External program terminated with exit code 1
The program I am trying to run is: timeout
This command works on the OS: timeout -t 30
I have setup the step to look like this:
Under External Program:
-Name: timeout
-Parameter: -t 30
I have also tried:
-Name: timeout -t -30
-Parameter:
I am running ECC 6.04 on top of Windows Server 2008R2 with SQL Server 2008R2.
When we were running in Server 2003 on ECC 6.0 I was able to use the Sleep program just fine in the same manner. I have found out that sleep is not available in server 2008. It was replaced with timeout.
After an update to EHP4 and moving to Windows Server 2008R2, Is there any pre-work that needs to be done on the SAP or Windows side before we can run external programs?

Windows Server 2012 R2 Session Host Server Temp Profile issue.

I successfully Deployed Windows server 2012 r2 Terminal services with High Availability.
After Rebooting Session Host Server i am facing Temp Profile issue. After i Deleted registry and rebooting server and tried to login again but same popup message you have login with temp profile.
Any suggestions or any hints would be GREATLY appreciated

Reducing Temp Tablespace

Hi,
I need some help with the temp tablespace on an express edition. I have an express edition running under windows 2003 Server and the temp tablespace has increased very large (>4 GB). I have tried to reduce the datafile with 'alter database datafile 'C:\ORACLEXE\ORADATA\XE\TEMP.DBF' resize 2048M;' but I always get the message 'FEHLER in Zeile 1:
ORA-01516: Nicht vorhandene Log-Datei, Datendatei oder temporΣre Datei
'C:\ORACLEXE\ORADATA\XE\TEMP.DBF' even if the path is correct (I have verified it many times).
Is there an possibility to reduce the temp tablespace or is the only possibility to create a new default temp tablespace and delete the old one. If I create a new temp tablespace, can I use the maxsize option?

Relation between temp tablespace and index creation

This is my development database. i have one table which has more than 2 billion rows , the problem i m facing here is while creating the index on this table i m getting temp segment error , while my temp tablespace size is 32 gb.
Here my doubt is :
1.What will happen in temp tablespace when index is created ? Relation between temp and index creation ?
2. how to create the index on a huge table?
3. What is the meaning og logging and no logging in INDEX creation .
4. how can we over come for these kind of problem and manage the temp TS..

index creation needs sort. how much depends on the size of the index.

nologging means you the creation isnt in the logs so if you need to recover you cant get back to it. when using nologging in a prod env you might do it for performance during a period of heavy dml such as a large index creation and then backup afterwards. common enough.

PDB without local TEMP Tablespace

Due to the Oracle Database 12c Concepts Guide it should be possible to create a PDB without a local TEMP Tablespace and the create PDB syntax includes the option (MAX_SHARD_TEMP_SIZE).
But I cannot find any hint how to create a PDB without a TEMP Tablespace or how to change the default temp tablespace to point to the CDB:

Yes - there is. But you CLEARLY don't want to do things the standard way. You want to use some particular non-standard way.
It is not 'standard' to create a database without a temporary tablespace. That is almost ALWAYS a mistake. That generally happens when you use the CREATE DATABASE command and don't specify it properly.
When you create a database you do NOT have to create a temporary tablespace. That has been the RULE from the very beginning and it is still true for 12c. For proof see the DBA Guide:

Creating a Default Temporary Tablespace
The DEFAULT TEMPORARY TABLESPACE clause of the CREATE DATABASE statement creates a default temporary tablespace for the database. Oracle Database assigns this tablespace as the temporary tablespace for users who are not explicitly assigned a temporary tablespace.
You can explicitly assign a temporary tablespace or tablespace group to a user in the CREATE USER statement. However, if you do not do so, and if no default temporary tablespace has been specified for the database, then by default these users are assigned the SYSTEM tablespace as their temporary tablespace. It is not good practice to store temporary data in the SYSTEM tablespace, and it is cumbersome to assign every user a temporary tablespace individually. Therefore, Oracle recommends that you use the DEFAULT TEMPORARY TABLESPACE clause of CREATE DATABASE.
You don't have to believe me or the docs.
Try it yourself. That is the best way to learn. Post your results here for all to see.

Without a temp tablespace Oracle is forced to use the SYSTEM tablespace for the temporary.
These are the STANDARD ways:
1. Create PDB with a temporary tablespace.
2. Use the DBCA with a custom template
3. Create your own PDB seed database without a temp tablespace and then clone your seed to create other PDBs without a temp tablespace
4. Use CREATE DATABASE to create a DB without a temp tablespace and then plug it in to your CDB root container.
Those are ALL standard methods. The last three result in PDBs withoug a temp tablespace.
#1 is what you should be using.
1. Create PDB with a temporary tablespace.
2. Shrink/resize the temp tablespace down to a minimum if you want
3. Assign the users to the CDB temp tablespace if you don't want them using the PDB temp

I have done BOTH of those things. Your failure to recognize that is NOT my problem.
I have created a PDB without a temp tablespace using DBCA and a custom template.
I have also created a PDB without a temp tablespace by using the historical standard method of CREATE DATABASE without a temp tablespace and then plugging it into the CDB and a PDB.
It is YOUR responsibility to RTFM and YOUR responsibility to actually put your fingers on the keyboard and try things.

Your reality is different than Oracle's. Support your reality with some facts.
I just created a PDB (create pluggable database) and no wonder that one comes with a temp tablespace.
I don't see where you posted ANYTHING that shows:
1. exactly WHAT you did
2. exactly HOW you did it
3. exactly what results you got.
If you want help with the code or a process you are using you have to POST that code or process.
We can NOT see your computer screen to see what screens you see or what entries you make.
Complain about the messenger all you want.
But you will NOT be successful with 12c if you refuse to RTFM and refuse to try things yourself. Making unsubstantiated statements or trying to attack me may make you feel better but you won't learn anything from it.

Temp tablespace - why so big?

Temp tablespace (size 6gb) is twice the size of my data and index tablespace combined. I am running into space issues and am wondering is it possible to resize this tablespace and/or take some other action to prevent the temp tablespace getting so relatively large?

The Temporary Tablespace holds only 1 Temporary Segment shared all by all user sessions. Each session takes one or more extents. When a session finishes its operation, it "releases" the extent it used for use by another session but the size of the Segment does NOT shrink.
Therefore, the Segment would grow to the peak concurrent temporary extent usage -- eg at some point in time, if you had 4 very large queries running concurently taking up 8GB then the segment would have grown to 8GB. However, even if you never have such concurrent usage (for example the normal load is for 20 users concurrently taking up 500MB only !), the segment remains at 8GB.
In some environments, the Temporary tablespace could grow during periodic (say Monthly Reporting) batch jobs after which it is dropped and recreated again.
This segment is used not just for "SORT" operations. It is also used for HASH JOIN overflows to disk and also for SORT MERGE operations.
You can monitor the size of the segment in V$SORT_SEGMENT. You can monitor users currently using it in V$SORT_USAGE or V$TEMPSEG_USAGE.

There is the need to move the system temp tablespace file to another disk. The database version is 9.2.0.1 and runs on an M$ Windows 2000 version 5.00.2195 sp 4 Server.
What is the work around for this task?

Intermittant disconnection of Shared Drives on Windows 7 Client machines hosted in WIndows Server 2008 Standard Edition

The environment - Windows Server 2008 Standard/Windows 7 32 bit Client machine.
Share - It is not a DFS share.
Antivirus - McAfee
The issue - 1 user is unable to connect to a particular shared drive hosted from within the Windows Server 2008 Standard file server. This drive is one of the multiple drives which are supposed to be connected to the user machine during logon using
the logon script. All the other drives mentioned in the logon script gets mapped fine but one particular drive does not. The user uses a laptop and we have checked his connections while in LAN, Wireless, VPN. Everything seems to be working
fine apart from this one shared drive. Rest of the users within that office gets the drive fine but just not this one user. Since we are not domain admins so we do not have a visibility of the group policies linked to this particular drive and
hence RSOP as well does not help. We have not seen the user getting logged into the machine using a TEMP profile as well for us to ascertain that the issue may be with a TEMP profile logon.
Please note that the drive does get connected at times and at times the connection just drops off! As an interim measure the local IT has created a batch file and given it to the user which maps the drive for the user.
Any help in resolving this long impending issue would be much appreciated!

You could keep the session always active to workaround this issue. Please open Control Panel -> Administrative tools -> Local Security Policy -> Local Policy -> Security Options and set the value of the policy Microsoft Network Server:Amount
of idle time required before suspending a session to 99999 and see how it works.
This security setting determines the amount of continuous idle time that must pass in a Server Message Block (SMB) session before the session is suspended due to inactivity. Administrators can use this policy to control when a computer suspends an inactive
SMB session. If client activity resumes, the session is automatically reestablished. For this policy setting, a value of 0 means to disconnect an idle session as quickly as is reasonably possible. The maximum value is 99999, which is 208 days; in effect, this
value disables the policy.

Users Temp Tablespace

I'm using Oracle 9i on Microsoft Windows Server 2003.
What is best practice when specifying a users temporary tablespace?
Is it safe to specify the TEMP tablespace that is present when you install Oracle? or is it better to create a seperate users temp table space?

TEMP tablespace that is present when you install OracleTEMP tablespace will be 40 MB in size with your default Oracle Installation!
CREATE
TEMPORARY TABLESPACE "" TEMPFILE
'C:\ORACLE\ORADATA\DB009\1.ora' SIZE 40M REUSE AUTOEXTEND
ON NEXT 640K MAXSIZE 32767M EXTENT MANAGEMENT LOCAL UNIFORM
SIZE 1024K
Check for the MaxSize and if it suits your DB - go on with it & it's safe using the Temp Tablespace!

Shrinking Temp Tablespace

While looking available options to shrink temp tablespace, i found the following options, i found 1st one easiest. I want to know difference b/t them.
ALTER TABLESPACE TEMP SHRINK SPACE;
ALTER DATABASE TEMPFILE ‘/orcl/tempfile/temp.dbf′ RESIZE 200M;
ALTER TABLESPACE TEMP SHRINK TEMPFILE ‘/orcl/tempfile/temp.dbf′ KEEP 100M;
