Windows setup could not process the Catalog setting

Hi, I'm trying to deploy an image of Windows 8 Embedded using WDS (Windows Server 2012) and I find this message in client machine. It appears while boot image is loading...
I'm using an *.xml file to make an unattended installation, that I select from Client tab on my WDS server.
If I don't use any file installation is performed correctly.
Full message is "Windows setup could not process the <Catalog> setting in the unattend answer file.
See setup log files under [X:\Windows\panther] for details."
However, when I check this folder in Windows Server there isn't any updated log file...
My unattend.xml file contains:

Anyone know how to fix it?

Well, the setuperr.log contains (Check next image link, I can't add it using hyperlink or image):

I have tried to add a Catalog component, but I don't know that I should write in "sourceLocation".

  • Windows setup could not read the XP CD

Um little help here asap please?
I ran Bootcamp and partitioned the drive, then I put my XP CD in and started the setup. But before I got to set it up, on the blue screen it says:
"Setup could not read the CD you inserted, or the CD is not a valid Windows CD"
Then it gives me a bunch of possible Windows CDs to insert.
Well I know this is the right CD with Service Pack 2 because I've used it before on my desktop PC.
Now if I exit the setup and try to restart my Mac it goes straight to the setup again and fails to do it again.
What am i doing wrong here? Is it possible this is because I have used the Windows CD on 3 different computers (which is all I'm allowed to install it on)? But then, wouldn't I be told this when I try to type the product key? I haven't gotten to start the installation yet... :/
    Someone help please?

But I've followed the howto exactly as it is set out. And it's the academic edition of Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2.
I don't even get as far as the formatting again stage. I get as far as Point #5 of Step 2 which says "Your computer starts up from the Windows installation disc. Follow the onscreen instructions." which I do... When the computer boots from the Windows Disk it does the blue screen stuff and loads a bunch of comp tech at the bottom of the screen. Then I'm presented with a screen that says "Windows XP Professional Setup. Welcome to Setup. This portion of the Setup program prepares Microsoft<R> Windows<R> XP to run on your computer. To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER"
I do that. Then it loads and gives me the Licensing Agreement which I agree to. Then it says Setup cannot find a previous version of Windows installed on this computer and it needs to verify that I'm allowed to use this upgrade product. Please insert one of "bla bla bla". Of course the Windows installation disc is in there so I press Enter like it says to and then...
Setup cannot read the CD you inserted, or the CD is not a valid Windows CD...
I don't actually GET to the stage you mention.
Could this be because this Windows Installation disc has been used on all of the computers it is allowed to be used on?
    Sigh.

  • Windows error message "Setup could not read the CD you inserted..."

I partitioned my Macbook HD using bootcamp assistant and allowed 32GB for the partition. Then I tried installing windows using the assistant. I only get as far as verifying the windows CD (not far as which file system to use FAT32 or NTFS). Then I receive the error message, "Setup could not read the CD you inserted, or the CD is not a vaild windows CD." I am using the Windows XP Service Pack 2 version - not an upgrade. Also I tried booting up straight to the CD but that did not help either. Any suggestions?

Please disregard my question. Although my Windows XP Pro documentation and folder did not say upgrade I just looked at the CD for the tenth time and just saw Upgrade printed on the CD. I'm not making excuses but the holographic images make the CD a little hard to read. Sorry for the trouble. I guess I will be going out and buying the full version now.

  • Windows setup could not configure Windows to run on this computer's hardware.

Just over a month ago, I purchased 6 identical Lenovo B5400 laptop computers for a small charity. Each is preconfigured with Windows 7 Professional, with a Win 7 recovery partition, and is supplied with a set of Windows 8 Pro recovery media (the charity
requires Windows 7 installed). I unpacked three laptops, configuring the first one as required by the charity, and using the second and third to experiment with the sysprep / imagex process before applying it to the configured system for migration to the other
laptops. After securing the second and third laptops by taking image backups, I applied sufficient configuration to the second to test the process, then sysprep'd it, and imagex'd it to a network drive, and to a USB stick. So far so good. After using imagex
to apply the custom .wim file to the third laptop, I found it booted up through the "updating registry settings", "starting services", and "installing devices" phases, but when it got to "applying system settings", it
displayed a messagebox titled "Install Windows", with the message "Windows Setup could not configure Windows to run on this computer's hardware".  In the last few days, I have explored all the other incidences of problems with similar
symptoms found by a google search, including those on this forum, and tried numerous experiments without getting any further (in most cases not even getting as far)". The sysprep'd image on the second laptop boots ok, going through the same phases up
to "applying system settings", then reboots normally, requests username and PC name, etc, the only defect being that it loses the Realtek display driver (which only takes 2 minutes to restore). I have tried imagex /apply to put the custom .wim file
back on the same laptop it was taken off (the second laptop), and it works exactly the same as it did for the same system immediately after sysprep'ing. The only difference between laptops 2 and 3 is a serial number (QB07523967, and QB07524012). Is there any
reason that this should not work? If it will not, I'm faced with about 100 hours to configure the 6 laptops individually to the charity's requirement.

    Hi,
This issue can be caused by hard disk settings in bios or DVD drive or bad SATA cable. Please try those steps below:
Upgrade the BIOS to the latest version; go into the BIOS and activate "Load Fail-Safe Defaults".
If you connect the SATA drives, please set the SATA controller to compatible mode in BIOS.

  • WDS "windows setup could not configure Windows on this computer's hardware"

I use WDS on a 2008 R2 server to deploy Windows 7 Enterprise with SP1 64-bit custom images to a variety of devices within our enterprise. This has worked flawlessly for two years. I have three desktop models and three laptop models (all HP) that share
a common .wim image. I PXE boot a desktop and choose the image file to deploy. It deploys like magic - until this past week. HP sent us a replacement drive for warranty repair on one computer and on that one PC I started seeing the "Windows setup
could not configure Windows on this computer's hardware" message after deploying Windows 7. The image deploys just fine, the computer reboots just fine, services are set up, all devices are detected. As soon as "Setup is installing devices" hits
100% and the "Setup is applying system settings" phase begins, that message appears. After researching the error and pulling the logs that Microsoft's KB 2466753 describes, it seemed that my problem was related to an "Advanced Format"
disk in that new computer. What I don't get is that they state that this problem was resolved in SP1 (which is what I'm deploying!). So, I started downloading storage drivers to my boot image thinking that maybe a newer driver would fix things. Eventually
(many drivers later), I got the new hard drive to successfully take my Windows 7 image. Here's where it all went to pieces. No sooner had I corrected the problem on that ONE machine, that none of my other machines would successfully re-image. After
2 years of flawless operation, now all my computer models exhibit this same error (except the one with the new replacement drive). After recreating my boot image in WDS (being sure to pull it from a Win 7 SP1 DVD) and adding every driver in WDS practically,
I've gotten all but one particular model to successfully image. No matter what drivers I add (keep in mind, that no drivers have been removed
from WDS during any of this process), the HP z210 desktops I use will not accept the image. Microsoft suggests flipping BIOS settings but why the heck would I want to do that on every machine when their BIOS settings have never been a problem
before this? They also say I should only need to download special Intel drivers if my disks are set up with RAID - which they are not. Anyway, as a test, I inserted a standard Windows 7 Enterprise with SP1 64-bit DVD (same one I used to extract my boot.wim)
and installed Windows on that model with no trouble at all. I only get this error when deploying through WDS. I'm at my wits end and would appreciate any and all help at this point.  Thank you!

    Hi,
Based on my understanding, the current situation is all other computers deployment is fine but z210 desktops.
If so, it seems like you have the incorrect driver in WDS for that particular computer z210 desktops you used.
I suggest install it from WDS without driver for test.
In addition, you can post this issue in
Setup Deployment to check the WDS setting issue.

  • Windows setup could not configure windows to run on this computer hardware

As I was trying to reinstall win 7 on my HP Pavilion dv6-7028tx Enterta laptop, upon competition, I was given this message by win7 saying that " windows setup could not configure windows on this computer's hardwear".
I did some research on this issue, it appeared to be the lack of SATA drivers on my computer.
Could you please advise me which intel SATA driver should I installed to fix the problem?
If this method doesn’t work, then can you please tell me how to change the BIOS hard disk drive setting to AHCI or IDE?
    Many thanks
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi:
You can't change the drive controller setting in the BIOS on any HP consumer notebook made in the last 5 - 6 years or so.
    See if this works...
Download the drivers from this link below (first file listed --  64 bit).
    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=2101&DwnldID=23060&keyword=Intel+Rap...
Extract (copy) the files onto a usb flash drive without any folders.
With the flash drive and W7 installation media in the machine, boot from the W7 installation media.
After you select the install now option, select the Drive Options - Advanced menu, then select the Load Driver option.
You should now see the storage driver files listed.
If you check the box, it will only include the compatible driver.
Follow the prompts and hopefully, W7 will install.

  • Script Alert: "Sorry I could not process the following files" (Error Message using Image Processor)

I'm a seasoned Photoshop/Bridge CS5 user who recently upgraded to CS6.  In Bridge I just ran my first Image Processor batch, trying to convert a set of RAW .NEF files to .PSD files with a basic editing action I created applied to them.  Photoshop CS6 opens the files from Bridge and applies the actions, but then I get the "Script alert" error message "Sorry I could not process the following files" and a list of all of the files in the batch I was trying to run the script on.  The files all remain open and are saved on my hard drive in a folder created by the Image Processor script, but do not close unless I manually close them.  I never had this problem in CS5 where the image processor would apply the desired actions to the batch of photos one at a time, then save and close.  Thoughts on how I can fix this bug?

    Hey Jeff--
No specific action steps to make the image safe - no flattening, etc. Had problems narrowing down the specific action step causing the problem. So I ran the Image Processor script in the ExtendScript ToolKit and debugged in. (I'm using the version that shipped with CS4.)
Turns out what was happening is that the app.activeDocument.close() command on line 1490 was never getting called, because the this.SaveFile() above it was throwing an exception. More debugging got me to the problem - SaveFile() tries to restore the history state after making a doc safe for saving as a JPEG. This causes an exception. So I commented out line 1571:
    // app.activeDocument.ativeHistoryState = historyState;
The script runs just fine after this. I commented out the close to see what history states got added to the doc, but no new states are recorded, so commenting out the restore line should not cause any problems.
Of course, my solution does not solve the problem and I may need to comment out all the saveFile() lines that does this. Not sure why some actions have this problem and others don't. The actions I am running have about 25 steps. Perhaps PS is not catching up quick enough. I added a $.sleep(2500) after the restore history but that didn't help.
So, not sure where this gets us. I will check about posting an action set with just one of the actions that cause the problem. But I may also have our customer comment out that line of the Image Processor script.
Hope this helps. May post more next week.

  • I installed the CC trial with an error window saying: Could not create the file '/Users/dranim/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/13.2/dummy'.  That was the first window.   Heres the second: After Effects can't continue: unexpected failure during app

I installed the CC trial with an error window saying: Could not create the file '/Users/dranim/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/13.2/dummy'.  That was the first window.   Heres the second: After Effects can’t continue: unexpected failure during application startup  I paid for the month subscription of 29.99. It claims it is downloading again?! Am I missing something here? Why is this process so complicated? I need to get this resolved asap and start working.

I originally had Adobe Photoshop Extended, then upgraded to the Production Suite. I ran the Adobe Cleaner, and that uninstalled most Adobe products, including my existing Adobe install, and then I re-installed everything with the same error code. Since CS4 came with CS5, I've installed AE CS4, but would really like to upgrade because I'm new to Creative Suite, and not sure how CS4 integrates with CS5...CS4 After Effects installed perfectly. I do have a 64 bit system, and installing to an OCZ Vertex 2....every other suite installs perfectly, except AE. And I think that is the coolest program in the Suite. I thank you all so much for taking the time to help, I really want to get AECS5 running...I did try to install after doing the recommended items Adobe suggests for Exit Codes 6 and 7, including turning off many startups...
    I'm baffled....

  • "Windows Setup could not configure Windows to run on this computer's hardware" error using MDT

Good day. I am using Microsoft Deployment Toolkit to deploy images to a group of ClearCube R3080D bladed PCs. Below are the server details:
VMware virtual server with Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Service Pack 1
    Microsoft Deployment Workbench Version 6.1.2373.0
    Management Console 3.0 Version 6.1(Build 7601: Service Pack 1)
    Windows Deployment Services Version 6.1.7600.16385
The image I am deploying to the blades is that of Windows 7 Enterprise x64 Service Pack 1 with Office 2010 and a few other third-party applications.
I have pushed this image to literally hundreds of blades successfully. I had a problem with one blade and found that the HDD was faulty. I RMA’d that HDD and installed the replacement. I pushed the same image to the blade and it works fine to the very end
then I receive the error ”Windows Setup could not configure Windows to run on this computer’s hardware.”
I have checked the BIOS configurations on this blade and they are identical to those of several known good blades. In fact, I swapped HDDs between a known good blade and the blade in question. The problem seemed to follow the HDD. Therefore, I assumed that
ClearCube sent a faulty HDD. I had the identical problems with a second HDD from ClearCube so I’m sure that the HDD is fine.
    I have read through http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2466753
as well as many other questions posed by other folks and I have yet to find a good solution.
Again, this image works on all other blades that are of the same model and the HDDs are also of the same model. I'm quite confused!

    Hi,
    I download and installed jre 6 update 20 (64-bit) on Windows 7 (64-bit).
I ran a 3rd party Java application and I got the error saying 'Could not load the Java Virtual Machine.'.
I found that the jvm.dll is installed under c:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\servere folder.
I checked the registry and the JVM is pointing to c:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\client folder.
    May questions are:
    1) Why does the registry point to the clinet folder instead of server folder?
    2) Should I change my registry entry to point to the server folder to fix my error - Could not load the Java Virtual Machine?
    3) Is there a better way to fix the issue besides chaning the regiatry?

I had a similar problem and your link helped me to solve the problem. Recently I changed my ethernet network card and since then my itunes worked strangely: itunes store worked, podcasts worked, mini-store doesn't, ipod update doesn't and diagnostics says that I had no Internet connection. • Script alert: "Sorry I could not process the following files:"

I keep getting this error when I try to run the "Image Processor" Script.  I have tried searching everywhere to no avail.  I am running on Windows 7 and CS6.  What I have tried:
Increasing History States, Memory Usage, and Scratch Disks
Turning "Save in Background" on and off
Turning "Open Documents as Tabs" on and off
    Deleting the Preset Scripts
    Deleting the preferences file
    Reinstalling Photoshop
    Checked for updates
Tried to come in through Bridge, instead of Photoshop
Convert one photo instead of many.(all above was tested with one)
Working variations:  Using the image processor for PSD instead of JPG yields appropriate results.

    Thanks for your help.

A wild guess. I see from you screen capture your processing open documents and that your saving to the same location. My wild guess is that you duped a document and never saved that document so the document has no backing file therefore no location or there is a new document open the has not been saved.  Photoshop Image Process script does not know how to save into no location? Do you?
