Write the code to hide / show the taskbar in visual basic and then use jni to call it from your java program. Search google to find loads of vb examples of how to do this.

ITunes controls hide behind Windows taskbar

I have my Windows taskbar in a locked position on top of my screen, but whenever i maximize iTunes (10,4.080) it 'slides' under the taskbar. This way the control buttons in iTunes are hidden behind the taksbar. Does anyone know how to fix this without having to auto-hide the taskbar?

Same problem here.
I can get a temporary fix if I move the taskbar to the bottom (the 'default' position) and resize the iTunes window a few times. Then I move the taskbar back to the top and then maximize iTunes and it sometimes works.
Needless to say, it shouldn't be necessary to do this kind of thing at all. I never had this silly issue in any previous version of iTunes. Come on Apple, you can do better.

CS4 : is there a way to show the windows taskbar in fullscreen mode?

Does anyone know of a way to be in "FULL SCREEN MODE WITH MENU BAR", but to still have the windows taskbar being displayed? In CS2 XP, the taskbar was always displayed in that mode, but in CS4 64 VISTA, it unfortunately doesn't draw the taskbar in that mode anymore.
I'm stuck in a bad situation becuase I *must* be able to see the taskbar at all times and I *must* be able to freely reposition the image anywhere I want on screen, and that's impossible right now because of this...
Anyone know of any hack around this problem? thx.

I'm having the same problem.... CS3 it worked fine and in CS4 it completely hides the systems tray, task bar, and windows start menu... I know there are "work arounds" but what about people that use a wacom table to do all of their work and need to get to something on their task bar... well they can't now because it's completely hidden.... it'd be nice to have some help with this one please!

I need to change the height of the Windows Taskbar at the bottom of the MS Windows Desktop.
I was able to extract the coordinates and handle of the taskbar using the attached vi. (This vi uses vis from the G Toolbox for LabVIEW). I tried several different things using vis from the G Toolbox and the LV util32.llb, but was unable to find a way of programmatically changing the width of the taskbar. Thank you for your suggestions.

Use G Toolbox => Shell => Taskbar, you can set Taskbar to Auto Hide, Always on top, or both.
Reqire XP.
G Toolbox => Shell =>Hide SysCtrls can return taskbar handle.

ITunes Taskbar Cause Windows Taskbar Missing

When I switched on the iTunes taskbar in WindowsXP, it covered my ordinary Windows taskbar (the part which you see what program is running in the background). Being unable to resize them and make them to fit with each other and coexist, I switched off the iTunes taskbar, hoping to get my Windows taskbar back, unfortunately, it seems to be gone with iTunes taskbar and it is just gone.
Now I have to keep using Alt-Tab to switch between programs, which is a serious problem.
Please help me out or my next avenue of solution may be erasing my current HDD with previous image.

I have a related problem; see this discussion. I've never had the iTunes taskbar turned on, but after playing a video in full screen my tasbar will often disappear--not hidden, genuinely gone. (Note that, unlike alanngli, this is fixed for me after restart; also, the fix the user in the link describes--turning on and off auto-hide--brings the taskbar back. This might help your situation, alanngli. But still it would be nice not to have to keep doing that!)

Move Java Frame into Windows taskbar notification area (system tray)?

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has written a service-like application in Java running (and appearing) in the Windows "taskbar notification area", instead of running in the convential Windows taskbar.
I'm able to add an icon to the taskbar notification area (frequently errorneous called as the 'system tray') by using some native code that uses win32 Shell_NotifyIcon(.. , ..). However, I'm not able to 'couple' the window (i.e. the Java frame) to the new icon in the taskbar.
My icon is shown in the area AND the frame is shown as an application in the taskbar... I would like to 'remove' my Java application from the taskbar and place it 'as an icon' in the taskbar notification area.
Has anyone had experience with a similar problem?

If all you need is to make the frame not visible in the taskbar as well than why don't you activate the hide() method? cature the minimize event and activate the frame.hide(); method. And in the system tray make the frame visible by frame.show();

Why does my taskbar hide and doesn't come backwhenever I open firefox and other files?

taskbar can't actually enlarge it and use it. If I restart in safe mode with all addons disabled, then it works fine. But
If I restart normally and manually disable addons/plugins, then close and start normally again i.e not safe mode, it
breaks, so does not seem to be an addon or plugin but rather something with the configuration.

When in fullscreen mode, bottom of Firefox window ends where Windows Taskbar would be, were it not in autohide mode.

My Windows Taskbar is in autohide mode.
When I launch Firefox in windowed mode and maximize the window, it takes up the entire screen.
When I move my mouse pointer to the bottom of the screen, the Windows Taskbar pops up.
When I select Fullscreen mode in Firefox, the top of the window behaves as it should: Menus disappear, and the toolbar area autohides, reappearing when I move my mouse pointer to the top of the screen.
The bottom of the Firefox window, however, jumps up to where it would be if the Windows Taskbar were not in autohide mode, leaving a black space. While I can move my cursor over this black space, when I reach the bottom of the screen, the Windows taskbar will not unhide, forcing me to use the Windows button if I want to execute some other command.
If I minimize the Firefox window, then select it from the taskbar, it returns to fullsceen mode and takes up the entire screen (no more black space), but I still cannot get the Windows Taskbar to pop up by moving my cursor to the bottom of the screen.
While it may seem nit-picky, this is a dealbraker for me. I set Firefox to run in Fullscreen mode, and expect it to do so properly, without having to go through all of these steps. Furthermore, since I use Windows Start button for everything (my desktop has nothing on it but the Recycle Bin), I often use it while browsing (launching other applications, using the Control Panel, or looking through filesystem, among others).
I am extremely pleased with all other aspects of the browser, right down to the toolbar area not disappearing when my mouse pointer happens to slide off of it after I place my cursor in the search box, and while I would be sad to lose all of these improvements, I will return to Version 3 if I must.

Adobe Acrobat plugin creates a fake entry at Windows' taskbar

Hello. Since a few Firefox and Acrobat Reader versions back (not sure which ones), whenever I open a PDF file in Firefox, Adobe's plugin creates a bogus window at my Windows' taskbar. It has the default unknown application icon, with no title, and it's useless clicking or right-clicking it, as not even a menu shows up. In fact, it is nothing, but it is annoying.
I am sure it is Adobe's plugin because it doesn't happen neither when I open a PDF with Firefox's built-in reader nor when I have Adobe's plugin enabled and set but not fired yet. Also, the fake window entry goes away a while after I close the last PDF tab.

It's hard to know what is happening here.
As a test of how Firefox+Acrobat works in an uncustomized Firefox, could you create a new Firefox profile and try that PDF again. In addition to bypassing current add-ons and custom settings, it should have completely fresh settings databases and a fresh cache folder.
Close Firefox and start up in the Profile Manager as described in this article: [[Use the Profile Manager to create and remove Firefox profiles]]. Any time you want to switch profiles, close Firefox and return to this dialog. Two tips:
* When creating a new profile, I recommend using the default location suggested; if you prefer to use a different folder, to avoid data loss, do not choose any existing folder.
* I recommend backing up all profiles before using the delete function, so you can recover in case the wrong one gets deleted.

Update deletes pinned bookmarks in Windows taskbar

I have an URL pinned to the Windows taskbar by calling the Firefox.EXE with a command line parameter. I also have Firefox itself pinned to the Windows taskbar.
Every time there is a Firefox update the pinned URL gets lost, i.e. the icon in the task bar is removed. Since this does not happen with other applications pinned in the same way when they get updated, it looks like this is a Firefox and not a Windows issue.
Does anybody know a work around? Maybe there is a way to remove the write permission to this pinned item. (Unfortunately I don't know how Windows stores them.)
And does anybody know how to report this as a bug to Firefox development? The support site only led me here.

I would like to know does this happen in case of Acrobat only or while accessing any other applications as well ?
Are you able to see the taskbar before you access any application?Or it just disappears when you launch Acrobat?
You can try repairing Acrobat once and see if that fixes the issue.
If that does not work ,you can try uninstalling Acrobat once and install it again.

3.0.2 and Windows Taskbar

Have my windows taskbar set to autohide and with Safari open the taskbar will not come up from autohide setting. Anyone have a solution for that?
Other than that, I have had pretty good luck with this version and WIN XP Pro.

Adobe Media Player on Windows Taskbar

Adobe media player is showing up on windows taskbar as empty space, and it cannot be removed (as seen in above picture, hilighted with red retangle box). No instance is running, and I have never pinned it to taskbar while this happens.
When I pinned it to taskbar from the context menu, the media player will show at another space (see image above).
Is there a way to remove this annoying empty space from the taskbar?
