  • Windows 7 Won't Start Up from Boot Camp

I got a new 21.5" iMac and set up a boot camp partition for a Windows 7 64-bit installation. It worked. I installed the latest boot camp drivers into the Windows 7, which was wonderful because it fixed the display to match my iMac's specs. Then I installed the latest Parallels 5 and had it recognize that Windows 7 system, and have been using it without problem. But I tried this evening to use boot camp to start up the Windows 7 system by itself and although I got a choice of Mac OS or Windows via the option-startup process, and selected the Windows startup, Windows 7 won't start up that way. I just get a black screen with a blinking white horizontal line in the upper-left corner. I keep waiting but it never gets past this. Tried turning it off and starting again, still no luck. Booted back into Mac side and Parallels VM of the installation still works.
Any help appreciated. I should still be able to boot into Windows 7 straight using boot camp, no?

I should add that I just installed 8GB of RAM to the 4GB the iMac came with. Possibly now that the total machine has a 12GB of RAM the Windows 7 system is confused and can't start up?

  • Windows 7 won't start.

I have a mac pro and use to boot camp to use windows 7.  Windows 7 won't start and it's stuck in a loop.  How can I prevent windows 7 from booting and get snow leopard to boot?
    thanks for your help!

    Hi,
reboot your Mac while holding down the Alt/Option key to get a Selection Screen on which you can choose to boot into OSX.
Once in OSX go to System Preferences - Startup Volume and set your OSX to be the default.

  • Windows Vista won't start or install - firmware or EFI problem?

I am running Snow Leopard on a 2.4GHz MacBook Pro, late 08 - early 09 model. I have been using boot camp to run Vista for the past year with no problem. This morning, I tried to start up Vista and it wasn't working. I got the option key screen to choose between OSX and Vista, but after choosing vista, the cursor blinks once and I get a black screen. The computer is quiet and nothing seems to be running.
At first I thought it was a boot camp problem. So I went into OSX, de-partitioned the drive, and repartitioned it. I then stuck the Vista install disk in, and clicked through the boot camp assistant to reinstall. The computer restarted to begin the reinstall process, but instead of starting the install disk, it did the same thing - a single blip of cursor, and then a black screen.
I'm not technically savvy, but that seems like it's not a Windows problem, but a firmware or EFI problem. The computer will run OSX, but it won't run boot camp and it won't start from a CD-ROM. The only other steps I've taken are to run Software Update and the Disk Utility from Safari. Neither helped. I'm out of warranty and would love to be able to fix it without spending tons of money. Any help is appreciated.

open terminal, run the following command:
    sudo gpt -r show -l /dev/disk0
(press return, enter admin password, press return again)
output should look something like this:
    Betsy7:~ kj$ sudo gpt -r show -l /dev/disk0
    Password:
gpt show: /dev/disk0: Suspicious MBR at sector 0
    start size index contents
    0 1 MBR
    1 1 Pri GPT header
    2 32 Pri GPT table
    34 6
    40 409600 1 GPT part - "EFI System Partition"
    409640 316879664 2 GPT part - "RAPTOR"

    317551448 200889128 3 GPT part - "RAPTOR2"
    518440576 262144
    518702720 67287033 4 GPT part - "XP"
    585989753 82582
    586072335 32 Sec GPT table
    586072367 1 Sec GPT header
    The first line:
"gpt show: /dev/disk0: Suspicious MBR at sector 0"
should be identical to mine. If the "Suspicious MBR"
line is missing, then it is a GPT problem, which indicates
that the MBR information is missing or more likely corrupt.
also the second and third lines will read:
    start size index contents
    0 1 PMBR
    instead of:
    start size index contents
    0 1 MBR
If the MBR info in the GPT partition is corrupt or missing,
then (obviously) Windows won't be bootable.
The only tool reliably capable (that I know of) of repairing (rebuilding) the GPT/EFI
without wiping off all partitions and repartitioning the drive
    is iPartition:
    http://www.coriolis-systems.com/iPartition.php
The command line program "gpt" is incomplete, so use
    it at your own risk:
    BUGS
The development of the gpt utility is still work in progress. Many necessary features
are missing or partially implemented. In practice this means that the manual page,
supposed to describe these features, is farther removed from being complete or useful.
As such, missing functionality is not even documented as missing. However, it is believed
that the currently present functionality is reliable and stable enough that this tool can be used
without bullet-proof footware if one thinks one does not make mistakes.

  • Satellite L650D-10J - Windows 7 won't start

    Hi,
    I have a Toshiba Satellite L650D-10J, Windows 7 64Bit, 4GB RAM and it won't start Windows 7. It starts and then you see Toshiba logo startup etc. and then it goes to black and it loads up Windows Bootmanager with the following message ;
+A problem to your computer occurred while communicating with a device that is connected.+
+This error may be caused by an external storage device such as an external USB drive, the device while in use, or damaged hardware such as a hard disk or CD-ROM drive disconnect that is damaged. Make sure any removable storage is properly connected and then restart your computer.+
+contact the hardware manufacturer if you still see this error.+
    +Status: 0xc00000e9+
    +Information: An unexpected I / O error occurred.+
(it was translated out of dutch so there are some sentences that aren't correct.)
I've tried downloading a Windows 7 recovery disc, burnt it on DVD. It works I'll get to choose to set it back when it was working correct (I get an error) or use a Windows 7 from disc (doesn't work). And if I start in safe mode I can see that it stops and freezes at file; disk.sys
    Anyone an idea?
    Greetings,

    Hello
And have you connected external USB device as the error message says? If yes remove all USB devices and try to start your notebook again.
Fact is if you cant start in safe mode your OS is muddled up and the only option to get rid of this is reinstalling Windows.
Are you using the preinstalled Windows 7 version from Toshiba? If yes go into advanced boot menu of Windows pressing F8 key where you can select safe mode, etc. and choose Repair my computer option. Then select Toshiba HDD recovery and factory settings will be restored. Also check this article about HDD recovery:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD1303440001R01.htm
If HDD recovery doesnt work you need an original Toshiba recovery disk. If you didnt create this disk just order a new one here:

  • IPod Touch not recognized in Windows & iTunes won't start unknown error -50

I have been trying to fix a connectivity issue with my iPod touch for almost 6 hours now. I've read all over the iPod Touch forums and none of the solutions worked for me. I've installed and uninstalled iTunes multiple times and nothing seems to work.
Also, earlier this evening iTunes was working but it wouldn't recognize my iPod touch although it would charge. Now that iTunes won't start I'm also having problems with charging my iPod and at no time, was my iPod ever recognized in 'My Computer'.
Someone please help! I'm at my wits end without being able to use and update my iPod. All help/insight/suggestions are appreciated and thanks in advance!

  • Weblogic Windows Service Won't Start

    Hi there,
We have a server with Weblogic installed. After a restart one day the beasvc.exe service hung when the server came back up and now it won't start. Weblogic is currently running in Consol mode and runs without issue. Can you someone give me instructions on how to troubleshoot the Service start of beasvc.exe and what may have caused it please?
    Kind Regards

    Hi,
You can try to start your service using the debug option which should give you the error on the prompt if any, following is the command to start the service in a debug mode
    WL_HOME\server\bin\beasvc.exe -debug "SVC_NAME"Where:
WL_HOME= Is the path where Weblogic server is installed say something like c:\bea\weblogic92
SVC_NAME = That's the name of the service. The best way is to right-click the service which you have created in the services.msc panel and select properties then copy the Display name of the script and then paste it in the "SVC_NAME".

  • Windows Defender - won't start

Running Win 8.1.  I had Defender running at one time.  I loaded Lavasoft Ad-Aware and discovered it loaded in compatibility mode and made itself secondary to Defender, but Defender turned itself off.  I removed Ad-Aware but now Defender won't start.  I rebooted and Lenovo Solution Center says the following --
Antivirus software is installed on your computer but is not yet activated. You need to activate the software to start protecting your computer against malware, viruses and other threats that might harm your computer.
I clicked 'Enable antivirus' withing the Solution Center, but the same message comes up.  I tried two methods I found at Microsoft help and neither worked.  How do I get Defender turned on?
Moderator comment: New thread created. Subject edited to clarify.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Defender is back on but in an unexpected way.  I removed Spybot, rebooted,re-installed Ad-Aware, removed Ad-Aware browser protection while the main Ad-Aware was still loading.  When it finished loading the Action Center came up and said both antiviruses were turned off.  I tried to turn on Ad-aware thinking I might stick with it if it would run normally.  It did not turn on so I tried to turn on Defender and to my surprise it came on without removing Ad-aware.  Thank you for the help.  I'll remove Ad-aware and stick with Defender.  I've not seen Defender catch any malware so I'm tempted to reload Spybot.  You said it could be done.  I'm just concerned that Defender is tempermental about any app that does what it's supposed to do.

    Hi,
From the error message, it indicates the version of wmp.dll is out of sync with what is set in the Windows registry.
Please attempt to fix it through the steps below:
    Reboot your system.
Open cmd.exe as an administrator by selecting Start/All Programs/Accessories.
Right click on Command Prompt and choose Run as administrator.
    Type in unregmp2.exe /UpdateWMPVersion
    Press enter.

  • Windows 7 won't start - No error message

When I turn on my Dell Vostro 1015 laptop, here is what happens:
    1. Dell icon and loading message (which is normal)
    2. Black screen and "Windows is loading files" (never happened before)
    3. Then the Microsoft Corporation loading bar stays on screen for some minutes
    4. Screen with blue background, green leaf and a white bird appears. And it stays on, no matter how long i wait.
I get no error message, no glue how to react or how to move on from this screen.
    What should I do?
    Thanks.

Can you attempt to start your computer in safe mode? Follow these steps:
    Do one of the following:
If your computer has a single operating system installed, press and hold the F8 key as your computer restarts. You need to press F8 before the Windows logo appears. If the Windows logo
appears, you'll need to try again by waiting until the Windows logon prompt appears, and then shutting down and restarting your computer.
If your computer has more than one operating system, use the arrow keys to highlight the operating system you want to start in safe mode, and then press F8.
On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to highlight the safe mode option you want, and then press Enter. For more information about options, see Advanced
    startup options (including safe mode).
Log on to your computer with a user account that has administrator rights.
When your computer is in safe mode, you'll see the words Safe Mode in the corners of the screen
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Start-your-computer-in-safe-mode
In safe mode you can perform a system restore to a moment when your system was still functional. Follow this article to perform a system restore:

You could also run SFC /SCANNOW to scan for any damaged filenames.

  • PSE 11 Editor with Windows 7  won't start

Running Windows 7 with automatic and frequent updates.  Adobe PSE 11 and Lightroom 4.4 64-bin.   Lightroom works.
When I start PSE 11 it loads the welcome screen.  If I choose Organize, that opens.
If I choose the Photo Editor, the PSE Credits screen flashes rapidly and then a failure message  "Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 has stopped working.  A problem caused the program to stop working.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
I read through the forum messages I could find and tried these approaches
Cleared out the C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\SICache folder
Temporarily disabled my security software.  Microsoft Security Essentials - Real Time Protection - (turned it off)
At the PSE Welcome screen I held down CTRL-ALT-SHIFT and clicked.  When prompted I agreed to DELETE the PSE Settings file.
I found the executibles in C:\Program FIles (x86)\Adobe\PSE11, that is
      PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe
    In the Elements11Organizer Folder
      PSE Organizer.exe
      PSE11.exe
I set all three executibles  to Run as Administrator for all users.
Still no change in the behavior of PSE 11.  Editor wont start.  See my first paragraph.

    An update.
I found my serial number and again downloaded and installed Photoshop Elements 11.
That seems to have solved my problem.  From Lightroom 4 I can now right click on a photo and Edit in Photoshop Elements Editor.
