Wine in chroot on 64bit (winetricks workaround) [SOLVED]
Hi,
So, I've managed to install wine into a 32bit chroot running pure 64bit (no multilib).
I've got opengl stuff working for the chroot, but I cannot get winetricks to function.
I've compiled and installed it from aur, but it gives the error "Cannot find wine (wine)".
I need it to install corefonts.
Can somebody point me to how I can just download and install corefonts for wine manually, or better, tell me how I have to setup my chroot for winetricks to recognize my wine install (1.2)!?! Or is this a winetricks bug?
EDIT:
Comment out this part of the winetricks script (line 3810)
#if [ ! -x "`which "$WINE" 2>/dev/null`" ]
#then
# die "Cannot find wine ($WINE)"
#fi

The path as should be seen by winetricks:
tom ~ $ WINE=/usr/bin/wine
tom ~ $ echo $WINE
/usr/bin/wine
tom ~ $ schroot -p -- winetricks
Cannot find wine (wine)
And the real path:
WINE=/opt/arch32/usr/bin/wine
tom ~ $ echo $WINE
/opt/arch32/usr/bin/wine
tom ~ $ schroot -p -- winetricks
Cannot find wine (wine)

installer appears as "blank dos-box type", hangs, anti virus off, firewall off, system win xp 64 bit. all attempts to solve failed. What next?
Jeff,
after trying to find, and use screen shot, i tried to access reader
downloader... instead, found an offline version of reader. after
installation started getting false reports that appeared as avg pop-ups.
Within task manager, was able to detect virus / worm running 6 - 8
services. immediately disconnected my 'net connection. closed all active
services being run by rogue process. determined it was using two files
named "lastalive0.dat" and"lastalive1.dat" to determine it's own status...
upon stopping it's services it controlled, it would soft re-boot to
resurrect another hijack attempt. tried workaround using secondary boot
(win 7) to no avail. after two days, i transferred personal data to
removable media and am in process of installing debian version of linux.
i thank you for reply and apologize for my tardy response, it was my first

Is Adobe acrobat 6.0 CE compatibile with WIN 8.1 Pro 64bit version?
Is Adobe acrobat 6.0 CE compatibile with WIN 8.1 Pro 64bit version?
I don't think so. You will probably not be able to activate that old of a version anyways due to it no longer having a supporting activation server.

Can't Install Win 8.1 Pro 64bit
Hi Guys,
I just purchase Win 8.1 Pro from the Microsoft Store (AUS). I have created a live usb (selected from the windows setup options) so that I could do a clean install of the OS on my laptop.
Each time that I have installed the OS (both clean or upgrade) it automatically installs the 32bit version. When I purchased the OS, it did not specify whether it was bit-specific, so I assumed it would include both bit versions, with an option to select
during the installation process.
I know my laptop is capable of running 64bit environment as my previous OS was Win 7 Ult 64bit.
Does anyone know what to do to either force the setup into installing 64bit, or any other method to get 64bit installed.
Cheers...My understanding is that the download from Microsoft will be the same bitness as the OS you were running when you downloaded it.
I don't recall the mechanism, but I do believe with a little elbow grease it's possible to get a 64 bit Windows 8.1 download, as I recall reading another forum thread where someone had the same issue and ultimately solved it. Do some searching for
forum posts on this same subject; I'll bet you can turn up the information.
I wish I'd been able to help you more directly, but don't lose hope.

Win 7 32bit or 64bit for PRE9 and PSE9
Hi,
I'm about to purchase a new computer. Would the PE9 and PSE9 run ok on WIN 7 64bit?
ThanksTed Smith
Could you please elaborate on when you wrote
"One downside in 64b is you have to have twice the RAM installed with 64bit to have the same effectiveness for a 32 bit prog. (4gb in 64b = 2gb in 32b)".
Are you talking about RAM (physical memory) or virtual address space (virtual memory)?
This is my understanding of the situation. Premiere Elements (any version to date) is a 32 bit application that runs in the 32 bit compatibility mode of a 64 bit system and as such has the limitations of a 32 bit system, namely max supported installed RAM (physical memory) = 4 GB of which 3 GB or less of that is available. The perk of the 32 bit application in a 64 bit system is that the application gets 4 GB of virtual address space in contrast to the 2 GB it would get with a 32 bit application in a 32 bit system (unless of course you used the 3 GB Switch in XP or Vista where the application could get 3 GB virtual address space and the OS 1 GB virtual address space). In either case, the Premiere Elements header would need to be written appropriately to work (see link information), and I believe that Adobe has written the header that way..
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa366778%28v=vs.85%29.aspx
In Premiere Pro CS4 which I believe is a 32 bit application, Adobe appears to have optimized the program for 64 bit (with a virtual memory perk of creating multiple exe files so that each would have its own 2 GB virtual address space). So there the advantage is in virtual address space not installed RAM. With Premiere Pro CS5, that appears to be a 64 bit application which when run in a 64 bit system can take full advantage of the 64 bit system resources (RAM and virtual memory).
I have Windows 7 Professional SP1 64 bit 4 GB RAM and 1 TB Local Hard Drive Space and have Photoshop Elements 9/Premiere Elements 9/Photoshop Elements 8/Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1, and Photoshop Elements 7/Premiere Elements 7 all installed without problems and are working fine in all aspects...no compatiblity issues...with exports and burn to DVD or Blu-ray. Of the 4 GB installed RAM, 3.8 is usable, and typically 2.7 is available.

I have this partition situation on my unic disc C & D for Windows 8.1 Pro at 64bits (see fig. 1)
and this is the same list from diskpart:
My first question is: may I remove partitions 1 and 5 without any risk?
My second question is what is the reserved partition 3 and why is not mentioned in Disc Manager?
Thanks for your help and excuse if the images are in Italian but I'am using an Italian OS.
Rinog47
rinog47I am not entirely convinced about your answer.
Yes the first partition of 800 MB may be the OEM original partition, (by ASUS containing Win 8.0) that I upgraded with a disk to Windows 8.0 Pro, and than upgraded to Win 8.1 Pro from Windows Store.
Now I made a full backup image of factory settings (win 8.0) on a USB key and now, after the upgrade to win 8.0 pro and then to win 8.1 this backup copy is useless.
The second partition is a system EFI partition and because the disk is a GPT basic disk and not a MBR, that partition is where (is that correct?) are system and boot info together with the hidden reserved third partition.
About the fourth recovery partition I suppose it was created when I created and installed Win 8.1 Preview on a VHD disk with double booting menu (that I deleted after the release of Windows 8.1).
This is why I asked if the two recovery partitions can be safely removed.
So, with this more info, may you review you answer and confirm or give me more details about all.
Thanks in advance.

Well, not really. My frustration with lack of 64bit support in iTunes made me download VMWare Server and build a 32bit Windows XP virtual machine off my old laptop license. Now my iPhone is working just fine with my system. It is not just a giant battery charger for the iPhone.
The problem with 64bit has been known for months and I gotta think that a wave of disgruntled iTunes users will hit post-December 25. Does anyone know if a solution is coming (other than the techie workaround I implemented)?iTunes 7.6 64bit version works great with Vista Ultimate 64bit.
However, iTunes 7.6 breaks Windows XP (iPhone is detected but not identified properly). Unable to connect phone now to XP. Sigh. -

Win 8.1 pro 64bit desktop blank screen after logon
Hi all
I have an ASUS P7H55M/USB 3 MB with i5 CPU 4Gig RAM NVIDEA 210 graphics card with latest drivers.
My OS as above being an upgrade from 7 pro to win 8 pro then downloading win 8.1 from the store in the last three months.
In the last few days I suddenly cant access my start screen/desktop after login. Even the usual custom page before the login is a generic blue background so none of my customized profiles shows its customized look.
Again, desktop/startscreen black/blank.
Able to access my files via ctrl alt del etc.
Been reading up and doing restore etc as suggested on various sites including malware scans NO JOY.I even tried to just run a repair using my win 8 pro upgrade disc but the system wont allow something like invalid media or something and I don't have media
for win 8.1 pro as mentioned.
Can anyone suggest a solution please? or am I going to have to reinstall with all the internet data bundle costs included? In the last few days I suddenly cant access my start screen/desktop after login. Even the usual custom page before the login is a generic blue background so none of my customized profiles shows its customized look.
A problem seen mostly be nVidia users seems to be that the screen being viewed is the secondary of an Extended display, e.g. with the primary being either another monitor or a phantom. Try pressing Win-P, CursorUp, Enter as if you can display and use
the Project dialog to shift from Extend to Duplicate. There should at least be a screen refresh after the Enter.
Able to access my files via ctrl alt del etc.
Ah. That sounds like another problem symptom. Users of third-party system modifications saw this recently when there was an update to some kernel modules. So, presumably explorer.exe is not running then? And restarting it fails?
Event Viewer could be started then and it might give you some clues. Otherwise if you do have system modifications try uninstalling them.
Good luck

Hi all. I had been getting plagued by kernel panics with my relatively new Macbook Air (which I otherwise have had no issues with) when I did the following in sequence:
While connected to a power supply, lock screen
Close the lid
Disconnect power supply
Open the lid
For me, this seemed to have been caused by the Automatically adjust brightness option. To access it, go to System Preferences > Displays > Automatically adjust brightness, and uncheck the box. I also unchecked similar options that dim the screen before sleep in Energy Saver. This seems to have fixed it. I'm including the full kernel panic report -- if you're having problems with kernel panics, give it a try. I'm going to see for the next few days if this solves the issue. My guess is that this option and the display driver for this computer are really not playing well together in this version of Lion. I tried various other things:
Disabling bluetooth
Using pmset to set the hibernatemode to 0 as well as 25
Restting SMC
and none of them fixed it. This did, though, or at least it seems that way -- I am going to check for the next few days and see how it does. I am not running any third party kexts, though I do have a few third party launch agents for daemons, servers and such which have been installed via Homebrew. Feel free to comment. I am definitely a little underwhelmed by this kind of behavior coming from what is a several thousand dollar piece investment that is the most important piece of equipment for me to do my work on any given day, but if I can bypass it for now without too much of a loss in functionality, so be it.

VBScript not working in OBI11g iBots in Win 2008 Server r2 - 64bits
Hi,
we are facing issues whilw running vbscript from OBI11g 64 bit (11.1.1.5.0 (Build 110427.0752 64-bit) in Win2008 64bit server.
its running fine in win2003 32bit Server.
The VBScript works as follows...
1. Connects to Oracle DB (Oracle 11g 64 bit driver)
2. Gets a max(Date) from a Table
3 Creates a folder with that max(date) on shared drive.
The script is working fine when running standalone - by double-clicking the .vbs file.
But not working from the iBot.
its thowing the below error:
*[nQSError: 66013] [Line:18 Column:1]*
*[nQSError: 66016] Unknown error code '0x8007007E'.*
Line 18 -> Set adoConnection = CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
Its failing in "CreateObject" line.
But everything works fine in win2003(32 bit)//OBI11g(32 bit)//Oracle 10g(32bit)
we think, its a 32/64 bit issues from the OBI side... but couldn't figure out the solution.

How can I get arch-chroot to source /root/.profile [solved]
I really like the arch-chroot script. When I come into the chroot using the script, I see that the shell is /bin/sh instead of bash. That is ok. How can I get the root user inside the chroot to source /root/.profile automatically? I have a line in there that will
exec /usr/bin/bash
. Thank you.

That works. Thank you. -
Arch 64Bit inside VirtualBox [solved]
Hello guys,
I run a 64Bit version of Linux Mint 10 on my laptop with VirtualBox 4.0.4 installed. My Core 2 Duo T5870 supports the VT-x technology. However I can't install a 64Bit version of Arch. During the boot process I always get the following message:
This kernel requires an x86-64 CPU, but only detected an i686 CPU.
Unable to boot - please use a kernel appropriate for your CPU.
Who can help me out?
Regards

How would I create a 64-bit machine? I just created a new one based on Linux and Arch, assigned a hard disk and that's it. There was no possibility to set or define the architecture.
You may give me a hint.
do you have the VT-x extensions enabled in your BIOS? I think OEMs usually disable them by default
Can I check if VT-x is enabled during runtime? I think it should be enabled, but I'm not completely sure. And unfortunately I didn't find any setting in the BIOS of my Lenovo SL500.

What Win 7 (32bit or 64bit) is preinstalled on Satellite L500?
Hello,
my Webcam does not work and i tried to download a new driver.
For this I have to know how many Bits (32 or 64) my Laptop has. Where can I see this?
I have a Satellite L500, Windows 7.
Many thanks!Hi
Try this:
- In Run type msinfo32.exe and press Enter
- In System Information you will see either the x86-based or x64-based PC
- X86 means 32bit and x64 means 64bit ;)
Hope this is what you need to know
