WinPE restarting
I am currently able to deploy OS images through windows with a client installed.
However, I am unable to use WinPE currently. I have enabled command support. PE does launch and reboots after "preparing network connections"
I do have a valid ip address. Able to ping the server. Diskpart goes through correctly. Error message is the 800004005 error. I have checked the bios time
and it matches the server.

Have you configured a PKI certificate on the DP (if it is PXE boot) or in the media (if using media)? A self-signed cert is not acceptable if the MP/DP are configured for HTTPS client communication.

Can the MDT Restart Computer step boot in WinPE?
Hi
In a Configuration Manager TS the Restart Computer step has the option: what to run after restart "The boot image assigned to this task sequence"
that allows the computer to boot in WinPE after the restart.
The MDT task sequence doesn't have this option, is there a way do the same in MDT and boot in WinPE using the Restart Computer step?
ThanksIf you cannot startup from a Tiger DVD then:
a. The installer disc is bad.
b. The optical drive is bad.
c. The hard drive has failed.
d. The RAM has failed.
e. There's been some other major hardware failure.
You can try booting from the Apple Hardware Diagnostics CD that came with the computer and run the diagnostics to see if you can identify a problem. The memory tests are unreliable unless you run the test in loop mode for several hours.
Be sure you are starting from the Tiger DVD properly:
1. Insert Tiger DVD in optical drive.
2. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
3. Release the "C" key when the spinning gear appears on the gray startup screen. -
Reinsstalling Bitlocker enabled Computer - not enough disk space for WinPE while restarting
Hi together,
i like to implement the possibiliy to reinstall Bitlocker enabled Clients in the field.
The Computers which have to be reinstalled have a C: and D: drive, both encrypted with Bitlocker.
My first try was to format the disk, configure the TPM Settings and then go on with the installation, that worked flawless.
My Second attempt with the goal to prevent the Tasksequence from formatting the disc prior to configure the TPM was not successfull. While configuring the TPM the Computer has to restart several times (Restart option is "The boot image assigned to this
task sequence") which worked when the disks were formatted, but doesn't work without formatting. The error message i get while the computer stores the boot image locally is "error: not enough disk space".
I tried to disable the protector for C: drive with a command line step ("cmd.exe /c manage-bde -protectors -disable C:") prior to configuring TPM, but that results in the exact same error message.
My Question is: Does anyone know why this message is thrown?
If some of you use other solutions for this scenario i'm also interested in an knowledge exchange.
If you ask yourself whyy i don't want to format the disk at first: After making the needed TPM configurations we're running a script which checks several prerequisites for installing, if something goes wrong there we let the task sequeence abort and we don't
want the uuser left with a formatted system in that case.
Thank you for tips and fingerpointing!
RolfHi,
>>I tried to disable the protector for C: drive with a command line step ("cmd.exe /c manage-bde -protectors -disable C:") prior to configuring TPM, but that results in the exact same error message.
Please check the partitions, the access for these partitions, the space left of these partitions after the task sequence runs the command line for disabling the protector.

Task Sequence Failing after Stating Boot Image and Restart in WinPE - Windows XP to Windows 7
Good Morning,
I am trying to upgrade an XP Machine to Windows 7 (x86). I was using the boot image inbuilt with SCCM 2012 R2 but read that it wont work correcltly. I am using Windows PE 3.1 boot image to boot.
The TS fails after trying to restart in Windows PE when staging the boot image.
From the Logs in CCM\Logs\SMSTSLog
I am still getting the same issue as when i am using the Boot image from ADK 8.1.
Anybody has an idea on how to solve this issue ? I have read a workaround about replacing the bootsect from the boot image but funily i am using an older boot image.
Kind Regards,

MDT 2013: WinPE Screen Resolution for Tablets not adapted
Hello guys,
I'm using MDT 2013 to deploy Windows 8.1 on tablets.
So, after generated the boot image including the right drivers inside, I boot up my tablets through WinPE (Boot on LAN).
Once WinPE initiated, I'm now in the Deployment Welcome Screen with a very low resolution. The welcome screen filled the entire screen. Worse, the next window is bigger than the screen.
So my question is, how to handle with this behaviour?
Thanks guys in advance for your help,Hi,
Thanks for your help.
I've read few posts about injecting an Unattend.xml file in the boot image including this link you mentionned.
I'm not sure to be right but what I did is the following:
1) create a file called Unattend.xml with the following content:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<unattend xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:unattend">
<settings pass="windowsPE">
<component name="Microsoft-Windows-Setup" processorArchitecture="amd64" publicKeyToken="31bf3856ad364e35" language="neutral" versionScope="nonSxS" xmlns:wcm="http://schemas.microsoft.com/WMIConfig/2002/State">
<Display>
<ColorDepth>32</ColorDepth>
<HorizontalResolution>1024</HorizontalResolution>
<RefreshRate>60</RefreshRate>
<VerticalResolution>768</VerticalResolution>
</Display>
</component>
</settings>
</unattend>
2) put it in my "extrafolder" in order to be imported when I create the boot image through MDT.
3) once created, checked that the Unattend.xml file is in the root of my boot image wim file
4) import the new boot image into WDS
So, I've tested the new boot image in at least 3 different kind of computers (tablet, laptop and desktop), the result is the same: the machines restart automatically when they try to load the MDT Welcome environment.
What's wrong? -
I'm trying out using MDT 2012 and WinPE 4.0, upgrading things. I've recreated things following templates in MDT 2012. I'm also using ADK and WinPE 4.0.
Issue I'm seeing is upon restarting into WinPE I see the screen showing Windows is Loading Files and the progress bar. I see the first one load through and then the second slower one load through. Once progress bar fills, it just does nothing and I'm left
looking at a complete progress bar.
I was trying obviously first using VMWare ESX 5.0 with no success, subsequently tried a couple of physical machines and those had no problems. I still want to get working on ESX since that will help speed up development and testing of the rest of the stuff
I need to upgrade. Tried a variety of SCSI controllers within ESX vms. I tried VMWare Workstation 9 with the mixed results as with the LSI Logic Parallel SCSI controller had success but not the others.
I of course at first tried making sure drivers were added with no change, although that still could be an issue with drivers I found to put in being incorrect.
More interestingly though is that I can of course install Windows 8 from install media just fine on these hardware, as well as if I create an ISO from the deployment share and boot to that it works just fine, so it seems to just be an issue when booting
to WinPE on disk.
Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Thanks.I did have the same problem with ESXI 4.1 and Windows 8.
I found a full solution with the following:
download the linked file at the bottom of this post and add the following options to your vmware-configuration
file:
bios440.filename =
"<full path to rom image>" --> if file in folder of vm only "bios.440.rom
mce.enable = TRUE
cpuid.hypervisor.v0 =
FALSE
vmGenCounter.enable =
FALSE
This worked for me for several environment with an older ESXI-invironment and Windows 8.
http://communities.vmware.com/servlet/JiveServlet/download/2139717-98102/bios.440.rom
I can confirm that this works also! Many thanks!

MDT 2012 State Restore Phase hangs at Restart-Computer Task
Background:
MDT2012 only for OSD. Configuring Win7 Enterprise x86 for Reference Image creation with Apps installed.
Configuration is being done with a VMWare VM.
Problem:
I have an issue where the sequence hangs on a later Restart Computer task. Applications finish installing successfully according to the logs. I have no idea why it stops.
I have a couple restart computer tasks earlier in the sequence that all run fine. only after some applications are installed does the Restart Computer hang up.
If I force a restart at that point I get the "dirty environment found" error. If I select to not start a new install my previous sequence picks up and continues where it should.
When hung up the computer is responsive as I am able to check the logs. The SMSTS log says the reboot was successful, but it didnt actually happen.
Here is the last bit of the SMSTS.LOG file.

Thanks!I have tried the following:
One App at a time - Success
No apps at all - Success
2-3 Apps - Mixed. No pattern. No single problem application identified.
For some reason I cant post screen caps here or links.
Apps include:
Symantec Endpoint Protection
Oracle Java and ODBC Drivers
Adobe reader, flash, shockwave
MS Office, Forefront, AppV Client
Winzip
Citrix Client
I have tried reordering the list of apps. I am continuing to enable and disable app installs. I was hoping people would have come across this and had a fix for this.
Thanks -
Unable to boot and failed to initialize to WinPE
Hi Guys, wanna ask, Im doing OSD and im having problem now to boot to Windows PE. When i boot, i can see the SCCM 2012 wallpaper background. Then a small window at the center saying that Initializing Windows PE. After a few seconds, it dissapears and it
restarts the machines and load back the existing OS. My site system server (DP server) is running on Server 2012 which is also the DHCP and WDS server. Im stuck a few weeks on this and dont know what is the issue. Whats the log to see for fail booting
to WinPE? Below are the settings i did:
DHCP
Set below options
066 Boot Server Host Name = SCCM DP ip address
067 Bootfile Name = boot\x86\wdsnbp.com
WDS
PXE Response – checked “Respond to all client computers (known and unknown)”
Boot – checked “Require the user to press the F12 key to continue the PXE boot” for both known and unknown clients
DHCP – Only check “Do not listen on DHCP ports”. The “Configure DHCP options to indicate that this is also a PXE server” is unchecked.
TFTP – Maximum Block size set to 0 and checked “Enable Variable Windows Extension”
Advanced – Under Domain Controller, checked “Allow WDS to dynamically discover valid
domain servers”
Boot Images
Installed x86 and x64 boot images to the DP’s
Included network drivers for each laptop model
Under Data Source tab, checked “Deploy this boot image from the PXE-enabled distribution point”
Site system server DP role
Under Distribution Point role properties, under PXE tab, selected below settings
Enable PXE support for clients
Allow this DP to respond to incoming PXE requests
Enable unknown computer support
Require a password when computer use PXESorry, Im looking at the wrong place for the log. Below is the snapshot on the smsts.log. I cant seem to upload the picture, but i will copy the whole text of the smsts.log. Before there is any error, i can see below string and im not sure whether it got
anything to do with the issue or not.
"X:\sms\data\WinPE does not exist" and "X:\_SmsTsWinPE does not exist"
The error that i can see from the log is:
1) Failed to download pxe variable file. Code(0x00000001)
2) PxeGetPxeData failed with 0x80004005
3) RegOpenKeyExW failed for Software\Microsoft\SMS\Task Sequence
4) GetTsRegValue() failed. 0x80070002

Thinkpad 10 SCCM 2012 R2 x64 WINPE OSD boot wim
Trying to inject drivers in to my CM12 x64 boot wim (ADK and MDT 2013 integration with CM12) for the new Thinkpad 10 Tablet. The x86 worked flawlessly and touch screen works on the x86 builds even my S1 Yoga. Errors galore with the x64 versions of the drivers from the SCCM pack. Being UEFI boot only both versions are needed and not all my locations will have the dock for using a keyboard so touch just needs to work.
Here is what successfully got added, the 2 display drivers and thats it. I started with all the drivers and worked in reverse by removing each driver after every error.
from SCCM:
Success: Drivers that will be included:

Any help is appreciated and parkerj, as usual I am willing to be your huckleberry if needed. On a unrelated item any tips for removing the lenovo scup data from my wsus/scup environment? We had an issue and now i cannot publish the data. Whick makes me sad as I think the Lenovo SCUP catalog shows good progress. Primary issue is knowing what applies to what without publishing everything.Hi,
UEFI BIOS Version: GWET23WW (1.23)
I have managed to implement drivers in a different way. I have created a package containing all drivers and placed it in a part of task sequence running inside installed operating system instead of running in WinPE. There is a script inside a package looking like this:
Start /w .\win\Chipset\setup.exe -s
Start /w pnputil -i -a .\WIN\TXEI\INF\TXEI.inf
Start /w setup.exe -SILENT
Start /w .\WIN\Audio\setup.exe /s
Start /w .\WIN\Bluetooth\setup.exe /s
Start /w .\WIN\Fingerprint\WBF_SPI_DDK_Extended_Setup.exe /s
Start /w .\WIN\GPS\setup.msi /qn
Start /w .\HOTKEY\setup.exe /S /B /H
pnputil -i -a .\WIN\MONITOR\TPLCD.INF
Start /w .\WIN\NFC\setup.exe /s
Start /w .\WIN\PMDriver\setup.exe -S -SMS
Start /w .\WIN\WLAN\setup.exe -s
reg import .\OSFIXES\ALSOR\ALSOR_Apply.reg
For anyone interested just make sure you follow correct paths to executables as presented in this script.
After running it I am left with Security Device unrecognized in Device Manager so I have to add another task sequence for Restart and than another one with a line with a package for Security Device and runing this as a command: pnputil -i -a TXEI.inf
Using regular pre-driver deploy task sequence commands in WinPE enviorenment unfortunately didn't helped so I have ended with workarounds presented here.
If anyone can add something to this I will be more than glad to hear. -
WinPE Error Capture and Deploy Win7 - SCCM 2012 R2 w/ CU1
Hi Forum
Deploy and Capture: Windows 7 x64
SCCM Primary single site server: Server 2012 R2
Version: SCCM 2012 R2 w/ CU1
Environment is Hyper-V on Windows 8.1, deploying to a Gen1 VM with a legacy adapter.
I am running into an issue whilst building a lab environment. I have built a Capture and Deploy TS (using the standard TS, ie not MDT although this is integrated) and deployed to an imported machine using the MAC address via PXE. Custom Client package has
been created and put against the TS.
The machine picks up the PXE response and boots into the SCCM WinPE environment and I choose the TS. The only currently available TS is the Build and Capture.
It runs through the TS restarting at various points as expected and then after the Client Manager package is installed it restarts and runs the TS... at this point it starts saying. "Initiating Hardware Devices.." (or something to that effect).
It does this for about 15 seconds before I get this error:
Windows PE initialization failed with error code 0x8022001B
Seen here:
I am unable to get the cmd prompt up at this point and it will restart and carry on a normal build, no TS running, meaning no capture.
If any can advise, please do.
Thanks in advance
NNHyper-V should work fine without any drivers injected, and you did your VM correctly.
During this error, what you see in a back ground, ConfMgr wallpaper or Windows 7 black first-run screen "preparing/first run"? I´m just thinking, is there any chance, that you have additional restart step set to boot to WinPE, instead of booting
to default OS?
Otherwise, you will need to be able to Access CMD with F8 for more troubleshooting. Make sure you have F8 command Support enabled on boot image and re-distrubute it. Or create new boot image as Peter suggested. -
Win7 capture failing at WinPE 0xc000000d
Hello
I currently have multiple Win7 x64 virtual machines that I use for capturing at the start of each year. I currently have an issue where no of them will capture, giving the same error.
I run the litetouch.vbs on the virtual machine like I have always done. I complete the wizard, choose the Capture task sequence I've set up and used previously, fill in my credentials and name the .wim that will be created. The wizard then finishes and the
lite touch process starts. It gets to the point where the system restarts and goes to boot into WinPE for the image to capture. It's a black screen with a white bar with a message above saying "Windows is loading files..."The issue appears once the
system has completed the loading phase and is about to boot into the WinPE environment.
The error that occurs is below:
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1.Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2.Choose you language settings, and then click "next"
3. Click "Repair your computer."
If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.
Status:0xc000000d
Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.
I can't recall any changes I've made on my server that could relate to this. I have made sure permissions are correct and that the share is configured correctly. This message comes up on all VM's I have so it is a server side issue and not a individual VM
issue.
If I select enter, I'm prompted to choose between 2 operating systems, a "Ramdisk Device Options" and a "Windows 7" option. The Ramdisk just loops me back to the white bar and loading of files and the Windows 7 option starts to boot back
into the operating system.
Any help would be appreciated as I'm out of ideas.
Thanks
BeauThanks for the reply DiWuNewFolder
I'm currently running my WDS setup from a Server 2012 R2 VM. I've increased the memory for the VM I'm trying to capture to 8GB but it still produces the same error.
I've had a look at the LiteTouchPE_x64.iso file and it is "2.08 GB (2,243,663,872 bytes)". Once I have updated the boot image inside the WDS server, the expanded size is 7941MB. If this is an issue, how do I reduce the PE image size?
I had been looking through this forum for a solution and in another thread someone mentioned mounting the LiteTouchPE_x64.iso directly to the VM from Hyper-V, which I did and I was able to complete the capture of the VM this way. After the VM sysprep'ed,
it would restart and boot off the CD I mounted. It looked like it normally does so I'm not sure what this points to exactly. -
SCCM TS that runs a net use command in WinPE
I need to make a TS that boots the machine into WinPE and then runs some commands equivalent to a startnet.cmd file like a traditional wds would but not immediately restart and require user interaction to move forward. When I gave sccm the boot.wim
that had a custom startnet.cmd file in it from our existing wds the task sequence pushed the pc into winpe and then just restarted without running the startnet.cmd. The startnet.cmd file goes as such...
x:> net use \\server\share /u:domain\user password >nul
x:>set paht=%path%;x:\bin;y:\bin\
y:>bin\start.cmd
When we boot to our wds the boot.wim and startnet.cmd works just fine. I then tried to add the commands as part of the task sequence but that caused it to fail and drop out of the TS when it ran the net use command, log below...
http://i.imgur.com/yXRiaxR.png
I tried both the wim file from our wds server (pe 4.0) and the one in sccm (pe 5.0), I also updated the drivers in the 5.0 wim file thinking maybe it was unable to resolve the unc but as you can see from the log it looks like its rejecting the command all
together.
The simple solution would be to make a TS that runs the wds stuff or boot to our existing wds server but due to long and stupid reasons neither are an option for this specific scenario. Any input or advice would be excellent. Why not using the built in task sequence step to connect to a share?

I also ran a Hardware Test and all the hardware seems ok.
I've taken the battery out of the PMU and it doesn't seem to have any issues starting without that battery in place.
I'm really confused. Why all of a sudden would my computer hate me like this?Hi, Daniel!
You can use this Apple Document to test your QS power supply with a voltmeter, without having to remove it from the Mac. It references a different model, but the only difference is that the voltage at pin 22 is 25 volts on a QuickSilver PSU rather than the 28 volts shown for the Gigabit Ethernet Mac. The procedural steps are the same...
Does the Mac restart properly with the battery removed from the logic board? Does the battery test out okay, or can you swap it with another one?

Mid 2010 Macbook Pro Keeps Restarting due to Kernel Panic. Ideas for how to fix?
So my Mid 2010 Macbook Pro keeps randomly restarting, and giving me a screen that says something like "your computer restarted due to a problem."
Looks like it as a kernel panic, but I have no idea what this is. Seems to be no pattern for when it crashes. Used to do it maybe once a month and now this is the 5th time in two days.
Any idea what might be going on? Looked at past threads but nothing seemed to apply.

Looks like it as a kernel panic, but I have no idea what this is. Seems to be no pattern for when it crashes. Used to do it maybe once a month and now this is the 5th time in two days.
Any idea what might be going on? Looked at past threads but nothing seemed to apply.
