Wireless Bridge no longer reachable

The mac-address for the BVI on the wireless bridge is not attaching itself to the interface on the 6513 switch.  We recently changed the vlans at the campus.  At first I thought I had a vtp pruning problem but ended up being a spanning-tree problem.  This got fixed yesterday.  Everything worked fine until this morning. Now I can't even ping the WAP.  There are 2 vlans on the bridge.  The other vlan has 3 mac-addresses attached at the interface.  My BVI on the management vlan is not.  I have tried resetting the port and even moving the cable to a different port.  I still get nothing.  When I do a show arp on the switch that does the routing for the school I get the mac-address but when I do the show mac-address-table I get nothing.  When I console in on the WAP I can't ping out from it.
I attached the bridge config on both sides.  The one I am trying to get to has the BVI 1 ip address 10.60.0.222.
When I check the interface to both the 6513 and the WAP both show up and up.  And there are packets being sent over on that native vlan. But I think this is only because of the connection to the other side.  It does show that both sides of the bridge are connected.
Any ideas?

I had to replace both WAP to recreate the bridge.  Whatever was going on with the other 2 I don't know.  I send ping and telnet traffic on my management vlan.
I am trying to send traffic on 3 other vlans but no success.  A computer connected to one of these vlans can't even ping its default gateway even though it did get an IP from the DHCP server.  The dot11radio0 sub interfaces are configured for each of the vlans and so is the fast ethernet sub interfaces on both sides.  The vlans are allowed on the trunk.
When consoled into the switch I can ping the default gateways of each of the vlans.
Here is the config on both sides:
interface Dot11Radio0.30
encapsulation dot1Q 30
no ip route-cache

  • Setting up a netgear n300 as wireless bridge/access point with airport extremee

I just replaced my netgear wireless router with the airport to allow our many devices on the network without knocking each other off and also increase the speed.  But would like to use the netgear as a wireless bridge or access point so that I can still connect my NTFS formatted hard drive to be shared on the network.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  I can not seem to find my netgear router with 192.168.1.1 as that comes up with another device.  I have tried doing this with a windows laptop in another room but can not seem to make it work.  I am now hooked up directly to the airport thinking i need to do it that way and still no luck. Please help.

As long as you intend to do this over ethernet it will work.. you cannot easily wireless repeat or bridge to an apple router.. you would need specific hardware to do it.
What is the exact model of netgear you have?
The setup method depends on the functionality of the router.. but lets assume it does not have a bridge or WAP mode.
    You use WAN bypass.
    1. Setup the Netgear with IP address in the correct IP range for the rest of the network.. it is hard to talk generalities so lets say the apple is main router and your network is now 10.0.1.x .. then set the Netgear to 10.0.1.250 (apple uses IP 2-200 by default) you can use any value you like outside the DHCP range. Up to the limit which is 254 as long as you keep track of all static IP devices. Apply this setting and power cycle the router.. and you might need to power cycle the computer as well to pick up the new IP.
    2. Turn off the DHCP server in the Netgear. You may lose connection to the netgear now.. do not worry about it.. (this can be combined with one.. if you firstly turn off dhcp before you change the IP.. but whatever is possible.. at some point you will need to change around and if you forget what IP .. you will be in a mess.. so write it on a label and stick on the base of the router.. also without dhcp you will either need to reset router to factory using reset button or use static ip on the computer. )
    3. Plug ethernet from LAN of the main router to LAN of the Netgear. Reboot the whole network is often necessary.
    4. In your computer plugged somewhere in the network.. open browser and go to the address you set.. 10.0.1.250 in my example.
    5. You can then setup the Netgear to do whatever you like.. DIsk access is fine.. wireless is fine.. it just cannot be a router.
Many many reboots if you get lost. Hit reset and start over.

  • Aironet 1300 wireless Bridges connection loss, help!

    Hi,
We have 2 Cisco Aironet 1300 wireless bridges with yaggi antennas.
The connection drops sometimes (every 2 or 3 days) and never comes up again.
When we reboot the non-root bridge the connection works again. We swapped the complete unit but still the same.
    For logs see attached file.
What can be the problem? The antennas are not aligned correctly?
    Thx in advance
    greetings,
    Marc

How long is the path and what were the results of the survey?
    Were the connectors waterproofed?
Please describe the sytem from the bridge to the antenna including cable type, length, path, outdoors, indoors etc.

  • Problem configuring wireless bridge

Don't know of this is the right forum, but no doubt someone will put me right if it isnt...
I'm trying to get my son's hand-me-down G4 Powermac on to our home's wireless network. I bought a Belkin wireless bridge. I can log in to the router, select it and provide the encryption details. The network panel tells me I am connected to the internet via Ethernet, green light. But Safari tells me I am not connected to the internet. I'm using manual config, with the bridge's IP address and quoted Subnet mask. But if I try to enter the router's IP address, I get a message saying that address is not in this computer's subnet. I've got two other macs using the network, so I don't understand why this should be so tricky?
What do I need to do to make the router part of this computer's subnet??!

Specifically, it's an F5D7330. I had it in the box for about a year while the missus and me dithered about whether the boy should have his own web access, but he's 16 now and keeps doing his homework on the house Mac when we want to read about the latest banking collapse...
So I connect the bridge up, switch it on and use a browser to access the bridge's setup menu. It sees our router and i set the encryption.
Then I go to the Ethernet window in Network Preferences on the G4 (an old 450dp, running 10.4.11) and set Config IPv4 to Manual. I type in the IP address as instructed in the bridge startup guide, 192.168.2.201, and the subnet mask 255.255.255.0. At this stage when I check the network status it's showing a green light and tells me I'm connected to the internet via Ethernet, IP address as just typed in. But Safari tells me I'm not connected to the Internet. If I go to the troubleshooting link on the Safari page, it shows green lights for the top two, ISP (the middle one) is slowly alternating green and red, and the bottom two options are red.
So I think that maybe I should enter the router's IP address where prompted in the network prefs - 192.168.0.1 - but when I do this I get a message saying that this address isn't part of the computer's subnet.
I'm afraid I was on the outer limits of my knowledge when I was accessing the Bridge's setup menu. I don't really know much about IP addresses, I am merely obeying orders. All this talk of subnets and such has me completely baffled. But it can't be that hard, surely?
I suppose my question is, do I have to change the IP address of my son's G4 to link to the router, which is already talking to two other Macs in the house? And if so, could someone very kindly suggest how to do it and what it should be! Or if not, I'd be really grateful if someone could explain in simple terms what the problem might be and how I might correct the issue.
I did try the Belkin site but it was a long way short of helpful. Hope someone can help out.
    Thanks

  • Wireless bridge

Hi all, I have an older FieldPoint  FP-1600 controller with a few
modules that works fine over my ethernet.  The problem is that I
must now move it to another room without a hardwired ethernet
connection.  The room can see the wireless LAN though.  So, I
plan to purchase a Wireless Ethernet Bridge to plug into the RJ-45
socket of my FP-1600 to connect via the wirless LAN.  My questions
are:  Is it that simple?  Could anyone suggest a good
    wireless bridge to buy?

I don't know about that adapter, but as was said in the other thread, we use simple Edimax APs and they work fine (and don't cost $700  ). Presumably, any other standard equipment should work fine - a wi-fi connection replaces the hardware layer but not the software layer of TCP\IP, so there shouldn't be any difference between using a wi-fi network and a LAN (as long as you have everything set up properly).
Try to take over the world!

  • Wireless Bridging and WLC

    Hi everyone,
We were planning to perform outdoor wireless bridging between different buildings in a city.
I wanted to know if it was necessary to install a Wireless LAN controller for this kind of deployment (outdoor only) ?
    Thanks!
    Regards,
    Fadel

Well what is the requirement for the link. The Exalt bridges do a good job and you can get up to 160mbps half duplex. The mesh is a bit more expensive and are intended not for such a long distance but requires a WLC. If you require higher throughput, then you need to look at another vendors point to point bridging.

  • Travel with Apple TV - Wireless Bridge?

I travel extensively and travel with Apple TV, MacBook Pro, iPhone, and iPad2. After losing about 10 Apple Remotes, I now try to use my iPhone or iPad as the remote to my Apple TV. In fact, it's better than the Apple Remote!
All is wonderful as long as the hotel uses ethernet to connect to the internet. If that's the case, I plug the ethernet cable into my MacBook Pro and create an ad hoc network to share the connection to the other devices, making them all on the same network.
If the hotel only has wireless connections, it only works for one device. I can share the wireless connection through my MacBook Pro, but then I can only plug in the Apple TV, thus not being able to use the Remote application for my iPhone or iPad.
I've been looking at Wireless Bridges. I asked at the Apple Store if the Airport Express or Extreme would work and was told it would not. Does anyone know if a wireless bridge would work? I would bridge the wireless connection to the ethernet port of my MacBook Pro, then share the ethernet back out wirelessly.
    Suggestions/ideas?

There is only one account created on this computer, so that makes it the admin. account, right?
Even if your user account has admin privileges, apps don't run as administrator by default. You have to authorize it with your password for that to happen. If you right-click on the iTunes icon, there should be a "Run as Administrator" option in the popup menu.

  • Wireless Bridge that doesn't require coax from injector

Does Cisco have a 5.8 Ghz wireless bridge available that does not require 2 separate strands of Coax between the power injector and the Bridge? I have been looking at the 1400 Bridges but using coax would mean I would have to run about 200 feet of coax x2 from the top of my tower all the way to my wiring closet rather than a simple single outdoor rated cat6 line. Does anyone have any thoughts on this. I need this to be in the unlicensed 5 ghz band and support WPA2.

If you plan it correctly, you can mount your 1400 indoors and run the antenna cable outside and up the tower. This shouldn't be done for long links, and it will drop your signal strength at the antenna.
Other than that, Cisco does not have such a bridge. Your only option would be to mount a 1242 in a NEMA-enclosure on top of the tower.
Keep in mind that Cisco and other cable makers have a dual-strand coax, so it's still one cable you're running.

  • Vlan traffic is not passing through Wireless Bridge

    Hi,
Recently we have placed wireless bridge in our network (Cisco AIR-BR1410A-E-K9 model). Now after installing the bridge we are facing the issue like only the management interface traffic is reachable through bridge, but not able to reach other vlan traffic.
like management range is in vlan 1 (which inlcudes AP' Switch and router) and the bridge IP's are also in Vlan 1.
Switch port is kept in trunk mode both ends of bridge. still other vlan traffic is not reachable, do we have to place any special configuration for this ?
all the business users are in Vlan 3
all the sale team users are in vlan 123.
now problem is other end switches are reachable for me through bridge that is in vlan 1, but vlan 3 and vlan 123 are not reachable for me.users are not getting IP's, when we assigned the static ip address and tested still it is not working.
i am attaching my wireless bridge configuration in the discussion, please help on this issue.
    Root Bridge ---- Non--Rootbridge--- Cisco Switch--Cisco Switch..
now i am able to those two switch also, but not able to reach the vlan 3 users who are connected to that switches.

    Hi,
infrastructure-ssid has been placed at both end still not able to get IP's to the devices.
I am not able to attach txt files in the reply, could you please let me know your email ID so that i will send the config files to your ID.

  • Can you use the Express as a wireless bridge?

I need to get an ethernet connection to a slingbox next to my airport express. My airport express is currently configured as a client that connects wirelessly to my netgear router that connects to my cable modem. I can play itunes on any computer to the airport express.
Is it possible to use that ethernet port on the AE to bridge my slingbox back to the netgear/cable modem?

Can you use the Express as a wireless bridge?
Yes as long as WDS is used with a compatible device.
Is it possible to use that ethernet port on the AE to bridge my slingbox back to the netgear/cable modem?
No. The Netgear base station is not compatible with Apple's WDS implementation.

  • Recommendations for wireless bridge

I have several 1262 LAP's connected to a virtual WLC controller. I need to build a wireless bridge to a warehouse for a few computers and voip phones. Any recomendations on the hardware and configeration? I've done this before with Proxim AP's, but am new to Cisco's wireless hardware. Duel radio's would help, so I can put one inside and one outside for the bridge.

The WLC won't be able to control a 'bridge', unless you were using 1552.
But you could use the radios on the bridge as well, so long as you use 'infrastrucure-ssid optional' under the SSID.  that will allow you to 'bridge' on teh 5GHz and still use the 2.4GHz

  • Vlan over wireless bridge with internet sharing?

Hi Community, my first post here, hoping somebody may be able to advise...
I live on a farm which is too far for broadband but fortunately I also have an office in a nearby town and because I have line of sight I have setup a wireless bridge, this gives me 8 MBits which is wonderful. Some of my equipment, for example a NAS is on the farm, and I need to access them from the office via the wireless link and I occasinally use vnc to access my office desktop from the farm. This all works beautifully.
Ok. now I want to share my internet with my neighbor on the farm, who, in a strange twist also rents an office next to mine downtown, so I would like to give him access to the internet and to his equipment he has there too.. but I don't want him to be able to access my equipment and visa versa I don't want to see his stuff...
This sounds like a job for port based VLAN.. and so what I bought is two Linksys/Cisco SLM2005 layer2 switches in the hope that this would allow me to do what I want... but I'm not so sure now. In the office I use a draytek v2910 which has a vlan feature that allows me to separate the ports from each other, only giving them internet access.
So... if I connect these two switches to each other, and I create a VLAN with the same id on each of the switches, will the corresponding vlans be shared, so, if you assume the following hardware setup:
    farm: slm2005 switch
port 1 -> wireless bridge to office: member of vlan "2", "3"
port 2 -> access point A for neighbor: member of vlan "2"
port 3 -> my own access point B: member of vlan "3"
    office: slm2005 switch
port 1 -> wireless bridge to farm: member of vlan "2", "3"
port 2  -> access point C for neighbor: member of vlan "2"
port 3 -> my access point for office D: member of vlan "3"
port 4 -> router port 1: member of vlan "2"
port 5 -> router port 2: member of vlan "3"
the router (draytek v2910) is configured in such a way to separate port 1 and port 2 (otherwise there would be a loop...)
The idea here is to create a vlan "2" for my neighbor and "3" for myself. but what's the correct way to consider the wireless bridge inbeetween (in fact, I think the same problem would occur if I just connected the two switches with a cable (if i had a 2 mile long one..)...)
Will my neighbor be able to see both access points "A" and "C" and the internet, but not be my access points "B" and "D"? Or does this whole concept of VLAN over bridge not work like this, or not at all?
Thanks in advance for any advice,
    Andres

    Hi Andreas,
    you're not far from it.
Your whole concept is ok. What you just need is on the gateway of each subnet (I would presume it's the router in the office) to create an access list preventing to route between vlan 2 and 3.
On all other devices,  traffic can't jump between vlans. But on a routing device that has the Vlan layer3 interfaces, traffic is routed between vlans so that's where you need to prevent it.
With regards to vlans over wireless, you're also having the good concept. The point is to have only 1 ssid, that will be in a certain vlan, but also bridging the other vlans onto that ssid.
This doc should help you out :

  • Need Help With Wireless Bridging

Hello all, I have recently perchased high speed WiFi for my house so I could do some gaming on my Xbox. Problem is my roommate, who is a tech support professional, set the modem up in his bedroom, my Xbox is old and requires a wireless adapter to pick up signals but since the modem is so far away from it it barely recieves the signal. So currently I'm paying for nothing so I confronted him about this issue and he attempted to fix it by wirelessly bridging a router to the modem but after a month he hasn't succeeded and has given up so now it's up to me and I have no clue where to even begin. The modem we have is a Cisco DPC3825 and the router is a NetGear Wireless-N Router WVR2000 V2. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Denver: I did not actually understand what kind of bridging you want to do?
The modem already has a wireless transmitter. I think you mean the router is picking up the wireless signal and provide the xbox with connectivity via wired cable. is that right?
If correct, It looks like the issue is with the distance/barriers between your modem and router. You need to try to eliminate some barriers in between to get better signl. Try also to put the devices as close as possible to each other.

  • Using the Mac as a wireless Bridge for the Xbox 360

Want to use your Mac essentially as a wireless adapter for an Xbox 360 or any console? plug in the ethernet cable between the two devices and follow the setup process!
    Wireless Bridge setup process
    1. Open system Preferences.
    2. Clisk sharing, then the internet tab and select Airport as the “share your connection from” then select the Built-in Ethernet in the list.
    3. Open up the terminal Application and type ifconfig en0 in the window it sohuld display an outcome like this
    ifconfig en0
    en0: flags=8863<UP,BROADCAST,SMART,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
    inet 192.168.2.1 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.2.255
    ether 00:16:cb:cc:80:aa
    media: autoselect status: inactive
    supported media: autoselect 10baseT/UTP <half-duplex> 10baseT/UTP <full-duplex> 10baseT/UTP <full-duplex,hw-loopback> 10baseT/UTP <full-duplex,flow-control> 100baseTX <half-duplex> 100baseTX <full-duplex> 100baseTX <full-duplex,hw-loopback> 100baseTX <full-duplex,flow-control> 1000baseT <full-duplex> 1000baseT <full-duplex,hw-loopback> 1000baseT <full-duplex,flow-control> none
    4. This gives you the information of what your computer’s IP address is. On the xbox dashboard in the network setup screen select manual and select the top section which contains the IP address, subnet mask, and Gateway address, for the IP address, input the Highlighted section above plus one, so its 192.168.2.1 (this is for standard configurations, again, just add one to the last digit of your IP address.
    5. Open Airport Admin Utility, the select configure on your airport. Then select the Internet tab This will give you your subnet Mask, input accordingly.
    6. For the Gateway address, you are going to put in the value in the blue box. This is because you are using your Computer as a gateway, therefor you need to tap into its connection.
So For the Average setup you will use:
    IP Address: 192.168.2.2
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway Address: 192.168.2.1
    7. Now for the DNS server, this varies according to What internet service you have, but, Airport admin utility provides the answer, right below the information we used above, you will see DNS Server. viola! Put that in as your primary DNS server in the second box of edit options in the network menu.
Now you should be complete, test the connection and you should be Ready to Go!! Happy Gaming!

    Welcome to the discussions, DanSwiggsD!
If you have a non-Apple device as your main router, unfortunately the AirPort Extreme has almost no chance of compatibility with your main router.
If you do have an Apple router as your main device, please post back with your model number and we'll let you know how your devices should be configured.
If you don't have an Apple device as your main router you have a few options to connect the xbox:
    1) A pair of ethernet powerline adapters could be used if you did not want to run a regular ethernet cable from your main router to the xbox.
    2) The new AirPort Express 802.11n model does have a feature called Proxy STA which should allow it to receive a wireless signal from any wireless router and allow the ethernet port to be enabled.
