The only option if you have an old PB to upgrade to 802.11g is to purchase an PCMCIA 802.11g card. Or you could use a 802.11g wireless bridge like the Linksys WET54G (but this is not very portable, but can be a solution for an old iMac).
You want a third party WLAN Cardbus cards based on the same Broadcomm chipset that Apple used in the Airport Extreme which will work in a Mac running OS X 10.2.6 or later and Airport 3.1 or later.
Companies using the Broadcomm chipset include: Linksys, Buffalo Technology, Belkin.
There is also the option of using other cards using the Orangeware software.

  • New Photosmart Plus B209 a-m Will not connect wirelessly **HELP**

I just purchased this printer and i have tried every option I can think of and find online to get this printer to connect to my netgear router, I had a wireless canon printer that i had for a  while that quit so i went and bought this printer and now it wont connect i've never had this much trouble my canon connected right away. I changed my router settings and hit my WPS button for this printer and still nothing. When i click on the wireless option on the touchscreen menu on the printer it just says "No connection found" and the option on the solution center for USB to Wireless just runs and runs for hours. Any ideas?  Thanks a bunch in advance!!

    Hi- Cliff here.
I have the exact same printer. After I installed the software from the CD that came with the printer, I used the Wireless setup tab to configure my connection. You need to know about your network. Things like WEP, and most importantly- select the shared key if you use a 64 bit or 128 bit encryption. Mine would not work until I fixed the setup on the printer side of the wireless configuration. Type in your key (or passphrase) that's the same one you'd use on your laptop or desktop that is on the wireless network. Unless you have to- leave the settings to automatic on discovery of the IP address and DNS servers. You usually don't have to mess around with those on a home network. Make sure the printer is connected to the computer that you've installed the HP software on- with the USB cable when you start this process so the software can communicate with the printer. I used the "wizard" and after about 6 or 8 steps, I was able to remove the USB cable and put the printer downstairs. Then I simply used the Windows Vista "Add Device" for a printer on my network and Wahoo!!
I hope that helps. If not, write back to me and we can do a more detailed step by step overview.
I must say, once you get it all set up- it's a great printer and VERY inexpensive to operate. Ink is cheap and this printer is very fast over my network. I use my ACER Netbook all over the house and print from the garage and the front yard and the living room and even inside my RV!!
We will get it working.... Together....you are not alone in this.

  • Problem with macbook connecting to wireless: help please

    thanks for reading this thread.
i have a linksys WRT54G2 router connected straight from the ethernet port of a cable internet connection. it's been working fine for the past month or two for both me (using macbook 10.5.6), my flatmate (running vista pc) and my girlfriend also running a macbook.
but, the last few days i've been having problems getting connected. which are:
not connecting to wireless network automatically, and asking for password which is already remembered in keychain
getting connection timeout when trying to connect
getting invalid password, even though password is correct
websites taking around 2 mins to load when connection is eventually made
the internet is working fine on both my flatmates and girlfriends computers, but jut doesn't seem to like mine. heres what i've done already:
restored router to factory settings and updated with latest firmware
cleared all known wireless networks within network preferences
    tried both firefox and safari
accessed router using IP address and loaded pages instantly
works fine connected to router with an ethernet cable
the only thing i havn't tried is a different wireless network, which i'm going to try tomorrow when i go into university.
has anyone any idea what the problem may be? like i said, its been working fine for the past 2 months but has just decided it doesn't like my macbook.
any help or suggestions would be great, thanks alot

I had the same problem as you. It all started when all of a sudden my macbook wouldnt automatically join my home wifi that is usually does. I ignored this issue because it still worked, and this persisted for a few months. After a while, the situation got worse and after waking up from sleep, my wifi signal would go strong at first, then weaken until it kicks me off, and i no longer could reconnect as I would get a connection timeout error. I just went to the apple store and they replaced the airport card for free for me.
So basically your airport card is slowly dieing, replacement is inevitable.

  • My HP Photosmart C4599 will no longer talk to my MacBook wirelessly -- Help?

After downloading a new version of Firefox, my MacBook quit talking to my printer.  I've reinstalled printer software and run a Wireless Network Test Report & Configuration Page.  The printer still tells me that mly printer is off-line.  Has anyone else had this problem?

What version of OS X?  From where did you get the software for your printer?  Was it labeled as being compatible with your version of OS X?

  • HP Photosmart C4599 will no longer talk to my MacBook wirelessly -- Help?

After downloading Firefox new version "4" my MacBook and my printer do not talk to each other.  Have done just about everything to fix -- HP Configuration Page, Wireless Network Test Report.  They all say nothing is wrong.  However, I still cannot print.  Has anyone else had this problem?

Let's make sure your OS X is healthy:
    1. Download and install OS X Combo Update.
    2. Download and install HP printer drivers from Apple.
Finally, get the latest software for your printer from the "Support & Driver" link at the top of this page.

  • Mac Wireless Help for a newbie

    Hi,
I am currently based in Hunan, China and over the weekend I bought a D-Link wireless router, hoping to make my time in China that much better with wireless heaven.
The model of my router is D-Link DI-624+A. It is an exclusively Chinese model and has no English manuals. But I did find a DI-624 (C version) model with a comparable manual and was able to set up the router.
This was my first time even attempting this, and I was mighty proud that I even got it to work.
I was running it through my Macbook (2GHz)/OS x 10.4.8., but the connection would just drop every 15-20 minutes, and I'd just have to tinker around and the connection would come back. (I don't think that my tinkering had anything to do with the connection coming back. It just took some time and would reappear).
The only reason I even knew that I lost my connection was because Skype would shut down, and nothing would load in my browser since my Airport indicator said I had full reception. But in reality, nothing was working.
So, my question is what could be the issue? I figured that I configured the router correctly, since I'm able to use it at all. But my issue is that it cuts off unexpectedly and then comes back on, sometimes minutes or hours later.
Could it be interference? Even though I use the "Interference Robustness" option and don't have a microwave or cordless phone on while I'm wireless.
Or is it a shoddy router?
I am so very unfamiliar with the hardware so any info and help would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise I'm out 250 kuai and I'll be forced to get the poor man's wireless- 15 meters of ethernet cord.
    Thanks in advance!

adoyzie, Welcome to the discussion area!
    Could it be interference?
Yes. Any other device operating at or near 2.4 GHz can cause interference.
...and don't have a microwave or cordless phone on while I'm wireless.
These devices can cause interference when not in an active voice call. The handsets periodically talk to the base unit and cause interference.
Also remember that it could be a device used by one of your neighbors.
Try changing the channel used by your base station until you find a channel that works or you run out of channels.

I have a new Mac Book Pro (OS X LION 10.7.2) which I am tring to wirelessly connect to my iMAC (OS X 10.6.8) via the iMac's internet sharing wi-fi connection.  But to no luck.  The connection is timed out.  Any suggestions?  would a stand alone wireless route solve the issue?
    Thanks for any help.

    Hi again,
I used a WEP password from a 64 bit WEP password generator, and low and behold, it now works fine.  I still don't know what was "wrong" with my previous password.  Not hexanumeric enough??? anyway things seem to be working.

  • Wireless help desperately needed!

I have a laptop with wireless capabilties.  I don't have broadband, cable or DSL...I mostly use dial-up but when I go to a cafe/bookstore/wi-fi spot etc. I use wi-fi. I have AOL and on the sign in screen I always was given an optoin on how I wanted to connect to the internet:  home (dial up), broadband or TCP/IP connection.  When I wanted to use the wi-fi signal I would choose the TCP/IP option.   About two weeks ago that option disappeared and now I cannot connect to the internet using a wi-fi signal.  I do have a signal because my signal strength is "excellent" ,my signal speed is 54.0 Mpbs and my connection status is established...so what is the problem?  I have spoken with various AOL techs and while they have tried their best to help me no one has been able to help me. If it helps I use Windows XP, AOL 9.0 and have my own IP address.   I love my wi-fi connection to the internet but I don't know how to get it back!  Can someone please help me out?  Thanks!

What do you mean when you say that you "have your own IP address"?   Did you set your computer to a fixed LAN IP address?  If so, what address did you use?   When did you set the computer to a fixed LAN IP address?  The same time your wi-fi went out?  Or perhaps, did your wi-fi go out when you tried to connect at a new wi-fi location?
If you are using a fixed LAN IP address, you will only be able to connect to networks that use that same address range.  For example, if you set your computer to 192.168.1.5 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0, you can probably connect to a Linksys router, since they usually use 192.168.1.x addresses.  But you will not be able to connect to a wi-fi router set to the 10.0.0.x address range, or to the 192.168.2.x address range, or to any other range other than 192.168.1.x
Generally, to connect to wi-fi, you should set your computer to obtain a LAN IP address "automatically" from the "DHCP server".  The DHCP server is located in the wi-fi router.  With this setup, you can connect to the wireless router, regardless of what address range it uses.

  • Beginners wireless help sought

Hi, I have a flat panel iMac with cable broadband running Tiger. I want to set up a wireless connection which can be shared with a windows laptop...
I'm an absolute beginner with wireless...where do I start?! eg will any wireless router be compatible?
    Many thanks for any help!
    G4 iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    moon_goddess,
Greetings from Wiltshire (where I work).
Firstly, do you already have a broadband provider? If not then when you choose one ask that they provide a wireless router (most will charge a small fee for this - but it's usually cheaper than buying the router seperately).
If you already have a Broadband connection you need to get yourself a Wireless Router to connect your current broadband modem to. These can be bought in any PC World, Staples or widely available on the internet. Some broadband modems are USB and so both undesirable for Mac use and won't connect to a Router. You may prefer to buy a combined modem/router which reduces the electrical sockets and cables required.
Next you need to decide how to connect your iMac:
Ethernet - just use the supplied Ethernet cable which comes with the Router.
Wireless - use the Airport Card in your Mac. To see if you have one installed go to Apple Menu > About this Mac > More Info > Airport.
If will also help if you could post your processor speed which can be found in the same way.
I recently posted this diagram for another thread but it applies to you to.
Any router should be fine and will work exactly the same with a PC as a Mac (WiFi is an international standard (802.11)).
    regards

  • Wired to wireless help needed please.

    Hey all,
I got a small network of 2pcs and a network printer using a wired linksys router. All works great. But I now want to change the wired router out for a wirless one, so we can use some laptops in the office too.
My question is, if I replace the wired router with the wireless one, am Im going to have to reconfigure it all for the new router? Is there a simple way to keep the settings in the wired router and transfer it over to the wireless one?
Im not so good at networking and setting up the wired network wasnt as easy as I thought it was when I 1st did that. It took a couple days and lots of phone calls to get it up and running the way we need it.
The wired network now allows all of us to surf the web, print to the netowork printer and transfer files to each other. And thats what I want to be able to do once I get a wireless router too. But I would hate to get it and it be a nightmare to configure.
Keep in mind, I can setup a wireless router, but when it comes to multi PCs and a network printer, I get a little confusied. Is thats assigning IPs that confuse me.
    Any suggestions for a n00b?
    Thanks all!

Thank you both for you help. I think Im going to keep the existing hardwired router in place and just all another wireless to it. That sounds easier for a n00b like me.
However, I did want to learn more about the wireless access point thing compaired to a wireless router.
Whats the big difference between the two? I assume the access point is much easier to get up and running?
Thanks again to you both! It helps!

  • C7280 + Mac + Wireless = Help =)

    Hi Guys!
For some reason today i could not print from my macbook to my HP PS C7280 wireless printer. I removed the printer and tried to re add it, but for some reason i cannot re add it.
Would someone be kind enough to help me re-add my printer. I am running SL OSX 10.6.2.
I have downloaded and installed the newest HP drivers from the website.
    Thanks
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Print a Network Config Page from the printer.  On there you will see the printer's IP address.
Type that IP address into a browser to see if your computer can connect with the printer (you should see the printer's internal settings if it is successful).
What brand/model router do you have?  What kind of encryption?  What kind of ISP?

    Hi Bates Dynasty,
Ensure your brother in law has the username and password that was supplied by his ISP. Not the email username/password but the internet access ones. If he is unsure then contact the ISP.
Once you have those details do the following:
    1. Connect the router to the phone line via the microfilter.
    2. Connect the iMac to the router using the ethernet cable supplied with the router.
    3. Fire up a web browser (Safari, Firefox etc)
    4. Connect to the router by typing http://192.168.0.1 in the address field
    5. When prompted, enter admin for the user name and password for the password, both in lower case letters.
Once in you'll be presented with a setup wizard which will guide you through the process. There should be an English version electronic manual in the CD that came with the router. Alternatively you can download it by clicking on the link below:

  • IPhone 4 Wireless *HELP*

Some odd reason this started this morning and I thought maybe someone in here could help. Recently...my wireless connection isn't coming on when I have a phone reception status of: _ _ _ _ _ AT&T E in the upper right hand corner. Usually it would say that but in place of the (E) it would have the wireless symbol. I have went into the settings/general and reset my network setting but that still isn't working. Anyone have any idea or experiencing this problem as well???

I would change the router encryption if I could....the router is thru work. So I can't change the settings. I tried turning off the 3g and that doesn't work. Tried renewing my lease. Still doesn't work. Not sure why this just started.
