Wireless LED/Touchpad

Is there a way to re-enable my wireless card after it has been disabled using a touch pad without rebooting? I have an HP laptop and the wireless card has this light/touch button which turns orange when the card is down and blue when it's up. Under the windows vista that the laptop came installed with, touching the LED toggles the wireless card on and off. Under arch, touching it when it's on toggles it off, and I can't figure out how to turn it back on without rebooting the system. The interface continues to show up in ifconfig, but anything I try to do with it has no effect. Touching the button again doesn't do anything.
If it's not possible to get the card back up without rebooting, would it be possible to disable the button so that I don't have to reboot the system every time it's touched?
Appreciate any help.

does this command work for you?
sudo /etc/rc.d/network restart
Or you could try this script:
#!/bin/bash
sudo netcfg2 -a # tell netcfg to take down every profile
sudo netcfg2 clean # tell netcfg to clear all its state info
for i in /sys/class/net/*; do
i="${i##*/}"
case "$i" in
lo|wmaster0) ;;
*) sudo ifconfig "$i" down;; # take down every hardware interface
esac
done
sudo modprobe -r iwl4965 # unload your wifi driver
sleep 5
sudo modprobe iwl4965 # reload wifi driver
Just replace the iwl4965 with the driver your actually using.  I don't use netcfg to configure my wireless as I use wicd but the script still works and will completely reset your wireless. Hops this helps!

    How do I use my wireless Led TV as a second monitor to my mac book pro using my home network without any cables? Both of them are connected to home network

    Having a gateway there is not going to be a problem. We just need to configure the Time Capsule correctly to work with the 2Wire.
    You will need one ethernet cable to connect the 2Wire to the Time Capsule and a second ethernet cable to temporarily connect your computer to the Time Capsule so that it can be configured.
    The 2Wire you have now should already be broadcasting a wireless network, so once you have the Time Capsule setup, you will actually have two wireless networks there.
    Here's how to configure the Time Capsule to work with the 2Wire:
    Connect an ethernet cable from one of the LAN <-> ports on the 2Wire to the WAN (circle icon) port on the Time Capsule.
    Connect another ethernet cable temporarily from your computer to one of the LAN <-> ports on the Time Capsule
    Open Hard Drive > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
    Click Manual Setup
    Click the Base Station tab below the row of icons to assign a name for the Time Capsule, a device password (write this down) and adjust time zone settings
    Click the Wireless tab below the row of icons
    Wireless Mode....Create a wireless network
    Wireless Network Name....Your choice
    Radio Mode....Automatic
    Channel...Automatic
    Wireless Security...WPA/WPA2 Personal
    Wireless Password....Your choice (write this down)
    Check mark next to....Remember password in keychain
    Click the Internet icon
    At the bottom, change the setting for Connection Sharing to "Off (Bridge Mode)"
    Click Update at the lower right and the Time Capsule will restart after 20-25 seconds and you should get the green light.
    You should now be able to connect to your Time Capsule wireless network.
    I'm not clear on whether you have tried to setup the Time Capsule to backup your computer. Post back if you need some info on that. We may need to start another thread for that as that will be a different subject.

  • [Solved]Update to kernel 3.2.1 & kmod results in wireless led blinking

    I have the following hack in /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf:
    [root@elitebook sigi]# cat /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf
    # /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf (for v2.6 kernels)
    options iwlagn led_mode=1
    Had to put it there since an upgrade caused my wireless led to constantly blink. Since the upgrade to kmod its blinking again. Any hints on how to change this?
    Cheers Sigi

    I want to add this FYI: since upgrading to 3.3.x my wifi led was also blinking again (driving me nuts).
    Before I was using:
    options iwl_legacy led_mode=1
    But apparently iwl_legacy has been renamed to iwlegacy (wow! they saved 2 characters and made the name so much cooler! never mind compatibility!)
    So using:
    options iwlegacy led_mode=1
    fixes the problem.

    The wireless led on my Aspire5535 is ON all the time, it will not turn off when the wireless button is pushed, instead I get a message on the screen " No Wireless Device" even though there is a card physically installed. Push the bluetooth button and the the message is "No Bluetooth Device ". I have changed the Atheros card and installed newest drivers also have replaced the "Launch card ". I still get the same problem. The machine works ok with a dongle but I would like to use the USB slot. Should I buy a different wireless card instead of the "G" band go for a "N" band? As there is no Bios update I cannot do anything with the Bios, (thinking it may be corrupt). Should I purchase a Bios chip?or has anyone any Ideas as to how to solve my problem. Regards to allBarry D

    Hi
    You have a couple of options as I see it please try these steps might help you to fix your issue.
    1) Disconnect the Battery & Adapter then press & hold the power button on Notebook for 30 seconds then turn on the unit and check if the Wireless light turns on.
    2) Go to Device manager then uninstall the wireless drivers from Network Adapter and restart the unit and check if the light turns on.
    3) Please update the Bios & Wireless driver from HP website.
    4) Click start in search type Recovery Manager then click on it select Yes on User access control then select I need immediate help then select Driver & application recovery select the wireless driver and install it then restart the unit.
    5) If you are comfortable reseating the wireless card which will be on the back panel off your unit you could try this steps as well.
    If still you have the same issue then you need to call HP Technical support and get the part replaced.
    Let us know how it goes!

  • Power & Wireless LEDs turn off on WRT54GX2

    Over the past week, this has happened 6 times: the power and wireless LEDs turn off, the ethernet(1) and internet LEDs flicker like mad.  While it's like that, all LAN and WAN traffic is disabled.  It is connected to a DSL modem and the LEDs there appear normal.  If I cycle power on the router, it returns to normal.  I have not yet connected this behavior to any special events on my LAN.  Does anyone have a suggestion?

    You should Upgrade your router's firmware...
    Download Firmware 3.70 MB...Firmware Ver.1.01.22...
    Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
    Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...
    In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
    Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
    Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
    Now reset your router :
    Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...
    If your Internet Service Providor is Cable follow this link
    If your Internet Service Providor is DSL follow this link

  • WRT610n wireless LED flashes constantly

    Should the wireless LED be flashing constantly even with the cable modem in standby? WPA2 is enabled, and no wireless devices (that i am aware of) are connected to the router. I was under the impression that the wireless led only flashed when there was wireless activity, but stayed solid otherwise.

    Try changing your security passphrase and see if it does it, If it keeps on flashing within a short time just ignore it.
    Some times the LED are not "correct" but the device is working as it should.
    If it takes a day or two to have the LED to start flashing again like it is then tell us.
    GoodLuck

  • WRT160NL blinking Ethernet ports and wireless LED

    I have a 2-3 month old WRT160NL that has been working fine until 2-3 days ago I noticed that the Ethernet port thats connected to a computer and the wireless LED has started blinking rapidly.  Even after a power cycle that this blinking happens.  Router seems to function ok BUT by internet connect has slowed down specially the wireless part.  Any ideas?  I have a wireless printer that's connected to this router and I can not even ping it anymore. It never did this before and I have not changed any settings lately.  I have borrowed a friend's WRT160NL and no blinking on his router and provides me with a fast connection and my wireless printer works using his WRT160NL.
    Any help is appreciated, else I'll probably return this router under warantee.
    Thank you.

    thanks for the replies.  figured out the problem.  the router is secure.  for some reason the wireless connection between the wireless printer and the router has dropped low which made the router to send out "more packets or signals" to keep the connection going which explains the very constant blinking on the wireless light.  when i moved the printer a little closer the blinking stopped.  this probably would explain my "slower" internet connections specially with wireless.  i just fiddled around with the linksys antenna and things look ok.  im just currently trying to figure out how to "extend" that wireless reach from the router to the printer -- maybe a high gain antenna.
    thank you.

  • SORRY WRT150N Wireless LED light not on

    I purchased my WRT150N router almost 3 months ago and the first couple of times that I used it the wireless light and connectivity was fine but then I stopped using it for a while and now the wirless light will not come on and my laptop will not get a signal.  I have tried many things and there is no wirless connection.  I have a wireless adapter but it is not getting a signal.  Any help on what I can do to get the wireless led light on and get connection????  I really need help.

    have you tried powering the switch on or off? and still no light? have you already restarted you computer?

  • WRT54GX2 - "wireless" LED is OFF

    About a month ago I got a WRT54GX2 so that I could share my DSL connection across six feet of space through a plaster wall. From the beginning the connection process was less than reliable. When the remote system was turned on it would not connect unless the other system was rebooted at the same time. I've been trying other settings hoping to get something that was more less troublesome, and I have reset the WRT54GX2 several times to "blank it out" and start all over again.
    At this point I get NO wireless indicator on the WRT54GX2, and the remote system does not detect a wireless network anywhere. This "remote" system is less than six feet from the WRT54GX2 and is using a Linksys WUSB54GC adapter.
    I'm thinking that after one month of intermittent operation the WRT54GX2 has died.  How can I confirm this? How does Linksys handle warranty replacements? How many hoops will I have to jump thru backwards?
    Thanks in advance for any help.

    Remove the four rubber pads. Take out the screws and remove the back of the router. You'll notice that there is a seated wireless card. Check to make sure that the card is firmly seated in the connection. On my router this came loose and thus no Wireless LED on the WRT54GX2. When i removed it and re-inserted it, I plugged everything back in and the Wireless light immediatley lit up and stayed lit.

  • Satellite L750/05q - Wireless LED not working

    Have an L750/05q running Win 7 64bit.
    Wireless works fine but the Wifi led not lighting up when wireless activated, only the bluetooth indicator led comes on when Bluetooth on, Wifi on or both on.
    Updated from toshiba site to latest Toshiba listed Atherios driver - 9.2.0.316 (my model is not listed on their AU support site), but still no led. Wireless works fine.
    Also updated the LAN driver (Realtek) too,
    Am wondering if this is just a failure in hardware rather than the driver.
    Any ideas? Thanks.

    Thanks Akuma and MisterX. On reading your replies I went back and read the manual more 'carefully'; I had interpreted wireless WAN as internet but it most likely refers to a GPS card function which is not installed in this model. Thanks for taking the time to reply and put my mind at ease.
    Cheers :)

  • Wireless LED not working on Asus K53E laptop with ath9k driver

    Hi fellow Archlings,
    After searching via Google and the Arch Forums for the past six hours, I've still yet to see the indicator LED light blink at all.  All of my laptop's other five LEDs work (power/sleep, battery, hard disk activity, num lock, caps lock), but from boot till my wifi is connected to a network and thereafter the LED stays dark.  This issue isn't big, just a minor trouble.
    Kernel:
    # uname -r
    3.1.5-1-ARCH
    http://ubuntuforums.org//showthread.php?t=1879706
    I eventually stumbled on the above thread from the Ubuntu forums which gave good advice, including the modinfo command, which I was using with
    # modinfo -F parm ath9k
    btcoex_enable:Enable wifi-BT coexistence
    blink:Enable LED blink on activity
    nohwcrypt:Disable hardware encryption
    debug:Debugging mask
    However running
    # modprobe -r ath9k
    # modprobe ath9k blink=1
    doesn't make any change to the LED - still pitch black in there (well, there's the ambient light from peripheral buttons but you know... ).
    I've been to
    # cat /sys/class/leds/ath9k-phy0/trigger
    none AC0-online BAT0-charging-or-full BAT0-charging BAT0-full BAT0-charging-blink-full-solid rfkill1 rfkill3 phy0rx phy0tx phy0assoc phy0radio [phy0tpt]
    # echo X > /sys/class/leds/ath9k-phy0/trigger
    where X includes all of the possible values listed by the cat command, individually of course.
    Does anyone have any insight into what the issue may be or what I ought to try next?  Thanks all.

    Hmm... I also found this:
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p= … ostcount=6
    I'm wondering where I would put the following script in the Arch filesystem - any direction would be most appreciated!
    #!/bin/sh
    if [ "$IFACE" = "wlan0" ]; then
    for direc in /sys/class/leds/ath9k-phy0::rx
    do
    echo none > $direc/trigger
    # never trigger blinking for RX
    done
    for direc in /sys/class/leds/ath9k-phy0::radio
    do
    echo none > $direc/trigger
    # never trigger blinking for radio
    done
    for direc in /sys/class/leds/ath9k-phy0::assoc
    do
    echo phy0assoc > $direc/trigger
    # do trigger blinking during association
    done
    for direc in /sys/class/leds/ath9k-phy0::tx
    do
    echo phy0assoc > $direc/trigger
    # never trigger blinking for TX
    done
    fi
    In Ubuntu the script is placed in /etc/network/if-up.d/ but where is that to be found in Arch Linux, and will it work with NetworkManager instead of the regular network daemon?
    EDIT: Okay, so I just tried placing the following script in /etc/NetworkManager/dispatcher.d/ and making it executable - still no luck after reloading the module:
    #!/bin/sh
    INTERFACE=$IFACE
    if [ "$IFACE" = "wlan0" ]; then
    for direc in /sys/class/leds/ath9k-phy0::rx
    do
    echo none > $direc/trigger
    # never trigger blinking for RX
    done
    for direc in /sys/class/leds/ath9k-phy0::radio
    do
    echo none > $direc/trigger
    # never trigger blinking for radio
    done
    for direc in /sys/class/leds/ath9k-phy0::assoc
    do
    echo phy0assoc > $direc/trigger
    # do trigger blinking during association
    done
    for direc in /sys/class/leds/ath9k-phy0::tx
    do
    echo phy0assoc > $direc/trigger
    # never trigger blinking for TX
    done

  • Wireless Keyboard with touchpad?

    I have been looking for some time for a wireless keyboard with built in mouse control - a touchpad seems the obvious choice - to use with a mac mini in a plasma TV/Hi Fi home theatre set up. There seems to be a gap in the market for this type of device.
    I have so far come across 2-3 third party devices that only work with PC but not wirelessly (two USB, one PS2). Sony make a nice looking white cylindrical media PC that has a wireless keyboard with a touchpad. I also see them in some department stores at the point of sale tills.
    I know I could get a wireless Mac (mighty) mouse, but when you are sat in a chair or sofa, there are very few surfaces where you can comfortably use a wireless mouse. It just feels odd!
    Many people are comfortable using a laptop on their lap and controlling the mouse pointer with a touchpad so it is just like detaching the screen, moving it away 6-8 feet and making it bigger of course! The user interface and experience stays the same.
    If Apple got wise and marketed the mini as a media centre, I'm sure they would make the connection and produce another wireless keyboard with built in touchpad. Until then, has anyone come across a suitable solution?

    Hi Bob,
    I'll be in the same boat as you soon, aiming to migrate my G4 Mac Mini to the living room soon, and doing the homework now.
    Here are the wireless keyboards that I've found appealing for this purpose:
    Logitech Playstation 3 Cordless MediaBoard Keyboard, US$47
    Some people have said it works well on Mac and PC too, so this seems good. Note: the PRO model is much more expensive!
    http://www.amazon.com/Playstation-3-Cordless-MediaBoard-Keyboard/dp/B000MFLBBK
    Logitech DiNovo Edge, US$157
    Very smart looking, pure Bluetooth tech and nice trackpad/media cursor.
    http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/keyboards/keyboard/devices/192&cl=hk,en
    Logitech DiNovo Mini, US$149
    Miniturized version of above, yuo'll be using thumbs to type. Only recently released.
    http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/keyboards/keyboard/devices/3848&cl=us,en?WT.ac =ps
    Adessa WKB-4000US, US$80
    Matches your description of a laptop keyboard and trackpad perfectly!
    http://www.amazon.com/Adesso-WIRELESS-SLIMTOUCH-TOUCHPAD-WKB-4000US/dp/B00083Y0Y G/ref=pdbbs5?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1203675646&sr=8-5
    I've tried some of the relatively cheaper mini keyboards that have a trackball on the right and left+right mouse keys on the left. The build quality was abit poor and either the trackball easily lost traction (within afew days!) or the keys started falling off, but I do recall I tried it and it wasn't very good, and I returned it. I'm also abit weary of RF wireless, because I have had some RF mice where the battery died very quickly and the wireless connection was not smooth unless you had the mouse right next to the USB dongle. I tried afew cheap brands, going upto the Kensington wireless mouse, but just gave up on RF stuff since.
    If you do go for one of the above, please do let us know how it is with them!

  • New C310 - Wireless working FAIL - Printer's wireless network seems to be dead

    Product: HP Photosmart Premium C310
    OS: Windows Vista 64 bit and Windows 7 64 Bit
    Error: Wireless working: FAIL
    Changes: No changes since this is the first install of this printer ever
    Description:
    I've just unpacked my new C310 as a replacement for my older HP Inktjet 3845.
    But when trying to install the wireless network everything I try seems to fail.
    Printer doesn't detect my wireless network (blue wireless led is blinking 1sec on - 1sec off )
    HP Network test tool on my laptop (standing next to the printer to test it's location ) gives no issues whatsoever, wireless network is strong and working very well.
    Settings of the wifi connection are WPA security, no WPS, Channel 11, ... .
    When I run a Wireless Network Test report from the printer menu, the result is (= printout)
    * Wireless On => PASS
    * Wireless Working => FAIL
    * All the other points below are on status NOT RUN so no connection at all ...
    Solutions tested:
    Tried to reboot printer while waiting 1 minute in between => No result
    Reset to factory settings straight on the printer => No result
    Tried to run the Wireless network Setup Wizzard several times without merit.
    Explanations on the forums seemed to be that this might be a faulty wireless network card in the printer?
    Since this is one of the reasons of buying this item, I do need it to work.
    Can anyone provide me advice/next steps?
    Kind regards,
    Raf
