Wireless network worked, then it didn't

I set up my two iMac's and one MacBook Pro (all C2D) on a Verizon DSL network using a Model 327W Verizon modem/router. It was plug-and-play. Everything worked perfectly -- wireless included -- the moment I plugged it in.
Now the only computer that works wirelessly is the one I set the modem/router up on. Is this a MAC address issue? My Airport is giving me the following message in the Network Status: "AirPort is connected to the network XXX. AirPort does not have an IP adress and cannot connect to the internet."
I added the AirPort addresses for each iMac into the router set up and gave them "permission" to gain access to the wireless network and that didn't work.
Caveats:
Both of the other computers (the ones that no longer connect to the network wirelessly) connect to the modem and the internet when I plug the ethernet cable into them.
When I manually configure the IP Address, Subnet Mask and Router to match the settings of the computer that does wirelessly connect, I get a GREEN light from my AirPort along with the following message: "AirPort is connected to the network XXX. You are connected to the internet via AirPort."
No, I'm not. Even though it says that, I still can't access the internet -- which makes me think it may be a firewall issue.
Help! I've got all my office computers connected to the network with ethernet cables until I get this resolved!
Thanks!
Doug

  • Question about how wireless networks work

    Hello,
This is more of a general question rather than one that is specific to the airport. I have a network with an Airport Express with wireless n, a Macbook Pro with a wireless n card, and a printer that has a wireless g card. Someone told me that because I have a wireless g device on my network that I will never get wireless n speeds even when using my computer to do things besides printing because the network is only as fast as its slowest device. Based on this, if there is a computer on my network that has a wireless g card then everyone on the network can only get wireless g speeds even if the others have wireless n cards.
It was always my understanding that I could not get n speeds when using the printer but I thought that if I were using my computer to connect to the internet, download, upload, etc. (things that have nothing to do with printing and don't require the printer) then I should be able to get wireless n speeds.
I was wondering if someone could explain how wireless networks work. Thanks in advance.

The simple answer is that having 802.11g (i.e. 54 Mbit/s) clients on an 802.11n network will NOT slow down the 802.11n clients.
However, 802.11g works only in the 2.4 GHz band, whereas 802.11n also works in the 5 GHz band, which is potentially much faster. So if you require compatibility with g devices on an AirPort Express, it decreases the potential maximum speed of the n devices, because you have to operate in the 2.4 GHz band. But this slowdown occurs whether or not g devices are actually connected to the network.

  • HPM1212nf MFP i can't scan but wireless network works fine for printing

i have the MFP set up fine for printing over a wireless network.  Any idea on what more i  need to do to get the machine to accept a scan command from the computer using HP Laserjet Scan?

    Hi there @bc123!
Thanks for contacting the HP Forums!
I see that your having a communication issue with the HP LaserJet when it comes to scanning to the computer, and I would be happy to provide you with my assistance.
A good place to start when troubleshooting scanning is to ensure the CD was installed correctly on your computer. If the CD is unavailable then I can provide you with a link to the HP driver download: Drivers & Downloads

To provide you with a more direct link to your software and to better assist you, would you please provide me with the following information:
    1. What operating system version the computer is running (ex. Mac, Windows, etc.).
Bellow are 2 links I located from HP and Macintosh on how to locate your version of operating system.
Which Windows operating system am I running?
Finding the OS X version and build information on your Mac
    2. If the computer is running Windows I will need to know what version (ex. 32-bit or 64-bit).
I have provided another link from the HP web site showing you how to check if its 32-bit or 64-bit
Is the Windows Version on My Computer 32-bit or 64-bit?

  • LEAP wireless clients work, then fail, Using WISM blades HELP

I am at a complete loss. Calls to Cisco, working with different vendors, nothing has worked to solve the problem. This is what we see, and we see this at every single one of our hospital sites.
All hospitals used to run just IOS code on their AP's. Some hospitals used the older 1200 series AP's, which have been upgraded from B only radios to A/B/G. Some hospitals were rolled out with newer 1240 series AP's. Every single hospital was just fine when using IOS code on the AP's. Users never disconnected or disassociated. They were fine. Clients run a mixture of the old Cisco 350 series cards, or Ubiquiti A/B/G cards.
Now, fast forward and we started installing WISM blades in all the 6509 distribution switches at each hospital. AP's were then upgraded to lightweight code and at first everything seemed great. Then the calls started.
All clients at all hospitals will just disassociate. It is completely random. Some machines can see it once, others 50 times a day, then tomorrow, totally different. I have witnessed the same thing with my laptop. We have 3 WLAN's in the hospitals. One that uses LEAP authentication, one that uses Certificates, and one that is our Patient WiFi. Both LEAP and Certs have the issue. I have never been kicked off of the Patient WiFi system. Not once.
LEAP clients use the same exact ACS servers they have always used. Nothing changed in the configs. Same goes for the clients using certificates.
I have upgraded code on the WISM blades 3 times now. Currently we are using the 5.187 code. I have tried forcing all AP's to use only B/G radios, tried using only A, doesn't matter. Same problem happens.
What is even worse, when this event happens, 50% of the time you have to actually reboot the workstation to get it to log back onto the wireless network. It fails the attempt and it just stops. This is not everyone at the same time either. There seems to be no event that I can find where all clients have the problem at the exact same time. I can have two devices side by side, same exact NIC, same software, everything. One will disassociate, the other is just fine.
I am out of ideas. Everyone I talk to at Cisco says never heard of this before. I just can't believe we are the only ones that have ever seen this problem.
I can take the same workstation that is breaking left and right on our wireless networks using the WISM blades, go to a site with AP's still in IOS mode, it will never disassociate and disconnect.
Has anyone heard of this, have any ideas of something I could try. Would you like to see any other information about this? I can post whatever you like to help. I am looking for any assistance on this.
I have been trying to do some searches on this forum, but for whatever reason it seems to be very slow so thought I might post my issue as I search around, maybe if it has already come up and there is a fix, someone could direct me right too it.
    Thank you in advance.

I tried that in the beginning. Put all ap power and channel as hard set. It did not change anything. I am not sure if we have tried the 4.2.207 code. I know we went through several 4.x.x codes in testing. Cisco recommended the lastest one that we are on now.
What really gets me is how everything worked just fine until the WISM upgrade. No AP placement changed, no additional AP installs, we just installed the WISM blades, migrated code to lightweight and everything started flaking out.
What other NIC's do people use? Maybe the brand we use is not any good? I have been up and down with the vendor, tried different drivers, nothing seemed to change anything.
It looks to me like the WISM sends out some kind of response that the workstation NIC's do not understand, so they just sit there. On wireless sniffer traces, you can see where the request goes out to the workstation, but the workstation just never responds, hence the lockup so to speak. It will just sit there until a reboot of the PC.

  • Airport Express wireless network works fine, but won't connect to Internet

I had a power outage and since then my Airport Express doesn't connect to the Internet although everything else seems to work. I can see the AE just fine in the Airport Utility. My computer connects to the wireless network provided via the AE, so does my iPhone, so does my wireless printer, and I can print wirelessly from the computer to the printer, so the AE's wireless networking is working. If I directly connect my computer to the ethernet connection that I use for the AE, it connects to the Internet, so I have wired connectivity to the Internet. But somehow, I can't get to the Internet using the wireless network of the AE. Any suggestions on what I should try next?

    Hi there,
Try to reset your Airport Express (AX), y pressing the little dot on the back of device. Keep pressed for some seconds until it flashes. Start then your Airport Utility and go through the setup process again. This will reset your whole wireless network. This may work for you. Good luck.

  • Wireless network working, but airpot setup assistant was not done

    hi there!
i was trying to set-up my wireless network using an airport base station.
i have a DSL connection with our PC & AOL is the ISP.
when i was setting the airport setup assistant, it said that i was using a PPPoE, so i entered my ISP, user name & password & finished with my setup. but i cannot connect to the internet & my AOL on the PC signed off & when i try signing on again, it cannot. so, i reset my airport base station. my AOL on the PC worked & so as my wireless network. i also downloaded the AOL for mac OS X since i read at the support page that AOL has difficulty working or connecting with mac OS X. then i tried using the airport admin utility to configure the base station. when i finished with it, everything is still ok.
so is it ok that i did not use my airport setup assistant as long as my network is configured (using airport admin utility) & my wireless network is working?
    thanks for your time.

so is it ok that i did not use my airport setup assistant as long as my network is configured (using airport admin utility) & my wireless network is working?
Yes, absolutely! Both utilities access the AirPort base station's settings. You can think of the AirPort Setup Assistant as the "quick & easy" setup method, with the AirPort Admin Utility aimed more at doing "manual" or "fine-tuning" type of setups.

  • No TC in device menu but wireless network working?

Ok, this is weird. I've set up my TC and everything seemed to go well but TC didn't show up and rescanning didn't find it. I followed the troubleshooting directions and reset and reconfigured and it did the same thing. 3rd time worked and I have a lovely green light on the front and my wireless network is up and running and I'm online. BUT there is no time capsule in my devices list in the finder!? I'm not sure what to try now. I also tried a drive in the USB port and even tough the network is working, that's not showing up either.
    Any ideas? Many thanks

Yep - It took me THREE attempts to get the TC configured correctly. I also was forced to reset TC back to factory defaults to be able to get it finally configured on the third attempt.
I did all my configuration attempts using the GbE port of the TC and did not use the WAN port at all - although the AirPort Utility kept telling me I should be using it. Go figure.... Weird....

  • Will two simultaneous wireless networks work?

I have a 2004 Airport. We would like to buy a Time Capsule with the built-in latest wireless transmitter. My dumb question: can both of these function at the same time? That is, if they are both physically located in the same room, can I set up two different wireless networks for our house, or will these two interfere with each other?
    Thank you!

So, I could hook the AEBS WAN port to the cable modem, let it run DHCP and n wifi access, and then ethernet from an AEBS LAN port out to the Linksys WAN port, and on the Linksys simply turn off DHCP, and it should work, and run the b wifi access - all on the same subnet, so all the computers and network devices would all see each other, whether 802.11n, 802.11n, or hardwired ethernet.
    Yes exactly.
Are there any other settings I'd need to make on the Linksys?
No. Just configure the wireless portion the way you want.
At that point, is the Linksys actually doing any routing, or is it acting more like a cascading switch with a wireless access point?
It is not doing an routing. It is merely acting as an Ethernet switch with wireless access services.

  • Can I use the Airport Express to connect to a Linksys Wireless Network and then use the Ethernet port on the Airport for a wired connection to a device for internet access?  Would I be able to then also use that Ethernet pt to a Ntwk Hub for more wired c

Thanks for the help.  Looked but not clear on what I am trying to do as being possible.  Can I use an Airport Express to connect wireless to a Linksys Wireless Router, such that I can then use the Ethernet ports on the Airport to either connected to a PC wired, or even use a hub off the Airport Express to allow multiple wired connections to it?
I am not looking to have the Airport Express extend my wireless network, just connect to it and provide me wired connections in a different location from where my Linksys Route is located.  Would prefer to replace Linksys with all Apple, but just not possible financially yet.  Thanks for the help.

If the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) is an 802.11n model, then yes, you can reconfigure it as a wireless Ethernet bridge. In this configuration, the AX would join the wireless network provided by the Linksys router and its Ethernet port would be enabled for either a single wired device or for an Ethernet hub or switch for multiple devices.

  • Wireless network works fine but Ethernet connection does not

Airport Extreme base station connected to DSL line connects perfectly with remote Macs. However, the hardwired Ethernet connection to my G4 is not recognized. When I connect the DSL modem to the G4 using an Ethernet cable, it works perfectly. Genius at the Apple store replaced my AP Extreme base station to no avail. Can anyone suggest what I should check for?

I have seen this exact problem when attempting to configure his iMac through Ethernet to a D-Link Router and an iBook with Airport Extreme (wirelessly) to the D-Link. The D-Link was connected to a DSL modem. The symptoms were that the wireless connection was working perfectly, but the iMac was unable to connect through Ethernet. I worked for hours trying to eliminate every possible issue. Finally, called D-Link for support and discovered the problem. I had configured the D-Link through the iBook for connection. Consequently, with it was necessary to change the iMac connection to DHCP, otherwise the logon attempt was redundant. After a fews of frustration, the lesson was thoroughly learned.

  • Two Macs, wireless network - working off same document??

I have done some searching on here and can't find what I am looking for - so here is the post.
I just got a new 17" iMac. I gave my 2004 eMac to my wife. I am connected to our DSL router via ethernet cable, she is connected via Extreme wireless card. Both running most up-to-date OSX.
We have always had one iPhoto folder (thanks to that nifty program that lets you create them wherever you want - can't think of its name) that we shared when we both had accounts on the eMac. We also share the same Quicken data file from our two accounts.
I am wondering if there is a way to continue to do this the way we are now set up?? I know I can turn on "sharing" in iPhoto so that she can see my library and I can see hers. I have read that was really slow over the wireless connection though. But if I wanted, is there a way for us to continue to use the same library folder - so that no matter who uploads pictures on their computer, we always see the same thing?
That is the same thing I want to be able to do with the Quicken file - whoever inputs transactions doesn't matter. We both still see the same data.
    Thanks for any knowledgable help!
    Eric

Actually, I figured out how to do the document thing. I logged in to one machine from the other (file sharing turned on), saved password login info in keychain, and went to the file I wanted to open. Once opened, the program saves that as the location for the file. SO....when I go to open the program and it loads the file, if I am not logged into the machine it logs in automatically and opens!
On sharing one iPhoto library. I have played with it a little (but can't do it fully yet b/c my new Intel iMac has iLife '06 and the eMac has '05 - the library on '06 is unreadable by the '05 version). Actually, the delay is very minimal, and once the library is "loaded" things seem to work at about normal speed. From what I have seen, it seems very doable with acceptable speeds. Mostly that has been on the "share library" feature - but that is over wireless. So I would think that whether I am sharing a library, or running the library from the machine, it should be the same result.
    thanks for feedback.

  • It worked then it didn't

Hi, I installed the airport express and at first it work fine.
Then I ran the software update that was released in May. It has not worked since.
The light flashes amber and the device can no longer be picked up when scanning.
    Help please?

    The upgrade itself is buggy.
What many did to solve to problem was a combination of reverse to the 7.3.0, factory resets, and base station restarts. The finally, upgraded to 7.3.1 again.
    There is no magic formula.

  • Connecting HP Laserjet P1102W to wireless network (then getting drivers!)

    Hi,
My macbook pro and HP LASERJET P1102W seemed to be communicating just fine when I had snow leapard.  Post update to Mountain Lion, problems.
I have gotten the printer to work when connected via USB, however not consistently.  (Often it cannot recognize when paper tray is filled, cannot do two sided printing and has other issues perhaps connected to the fact that software is missing?)
I have read the documentation on HP site, noting that the only way to install drivers is via a network connecton and airprint which requires a network connection.
Not sure this is the right place to ask this, but I will for now:
How do I connect my printer to my network, which is a new home network as I just changed from DSL to Cable?
Note:  I had not previously ever connected my printer to my wireless network and set it up to work with Airprint, though that is one of the reasons I bought it.
Once I do connect the printer to my wireless network, perhaps then I can try to follow the steps on the HP site   http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03425022&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en &os=4142&product=4110396&sw_lang=
If anyone has experience with the above, I would love to hear it!
Final question:  Is plugging the printer into the back of the new cable modem via ethernet or USB perhaps a way to put it on the wireless network?  Not a convenient location, but if only alternative, I would try it.
    THANKS!
    Ani

    Dear Happy-to-Help,
I appreciate you logging in to help. I shall give this a shot in the next couple of days when I have more time and let you know how it goes.
I have been quite frustrated by the fact that HP says if the HP Laserjet P1102W has worked fine with Snow Leapord and one upgrades to Mountain Lion, all the drivers will be automatically upgraded/updated (or whatever the term).  That has not been the case at all.   It took quite a bit to even get my computer and printer to talk to one another via a USB connection—with none of the functions of the printer (as noted above) working properly to this day.
I hope your suggestion works.  Will be back in touch to let you know.

  • G780 wireless stopped working; networks found but can't connect

I have a G780 bought early this year. It came with Windows 8, which I am still using. Everything was working just fine until today. All of a sudden I can't connect to my wireless networks (I have a router that can have a "guest network" in addition to the normal one, and I can't connect to either of these). I had been fiddling with some of the settings last night, but everything had still been working fine. I can connect with other devices so I know the networks are working.
The networks do show up in the list of available networks, but whenever I try and connect it just doesn't work. To make sure I wasn't just typing the passwords incorrectly I tried disabling all security on one of the networks (so it was a totally open network with no password), and the laptop still can't connect. I've tried restarting the wireless router, restarting the computer, updating the driver for the wireless card, uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them, enabling and disabling the wireless card, unchecking the option to allow the computer to turn off the wireless card to save power, and as a last ditch effort I even did this Windows 8 "Refresh" option which uninstalls all programs you've installed and resets options to the defaults. That also included uninstalling my antivirus program, so I've tried connecting without that, too. Nothing has made any difference.
Edited to add that I also downloaded and ran the diagnostic tool from the Lenovo site for my laptop and version of Windows for wireless networking issues and it didn't show anything.
I would really appreciate any insight as to what to do next. I'm pretty much at my wits' end with this.

    hi Maltiriel,
Thanks for using Lenovo Community Forums!
Can you try doing a system restore, maybe set it 2 days back or when you last work with the Wireless with no issues,
    If that doesn't help,
Pull up the page on the right where it shows you all available wireless networks,
      > Look for your Network and do a right click make sure you "Forget" the network first,
      >Now Try following this Article and Connect to your Wifi Manually,
