Wireless setup WPA2 and software

Problem. I have about 25 airport extreme base stations put around our school. There seems to be one problem. We moved our network to WPA2 and have a radius server all setup and working. everything is working perfect except when we try to get 25 ibooks working on one airport. After about 19 or 21 connect the seems to be a problem with the airport and it locks up. What is going on, i think that these airports can handle about 50 encrypted users. And about this software Airport management utility and software, where do i get it, would help my setup.
thanks

The Airport Management Tools software package is available via the link under the heading "Additional Resources" at http://www.apple.com/support/airport
Several people have noted problems with Base Stations in multiple Base Station setups, which seem to be related to use of firmware version 5.6. These problems seem to go away with use of the previous version 5.5.1 (which of course doesn't support WPA2) - get it at:

  • Wireless-N hardware and software issues

Yep the 300N gear goes back to BBuy tomorrow. I purchased a V1 of the wrt54G hardware almost 3 years ago, it died last week. Figured I’d buy the latest and greatest and be all set for another couple of years.
Well I’ve had similar problems as the posters above have mentioned. I have dug a little deeper into some of my problems. I have 2 issues that are shows stoppers that are causing the returns. I purchased all 3 devices in the last week. WRT300N (router), WPC300N(notebook card), and WMP300N(PCI card).
The first issue has to do with DHCP. In the web admin application of the WRT300N take a look at the Status page - Local Network then click on DHCP table. When first plugged in the wrt300n shows the clients that have received DHCP addresses. After a while the WRT300N stops displaying the DHCP clients and their addresses, the WRT300N loses track of the DHCP addresses reservations. The WRT300N even started to hand out duplicate addresses on my network, causing some of my systems to not work on the network.
The second issue has to with wireless connectivity. I have a dell laptop with the 1350 WLAN card. The 1350wlan card has the Broadcom chipset, the same family that the WPC300N uses. I updated to the latest driver and utility from Dell for the 1350wlan card. I opened the status meter and leave it open so that I can watch the status as I work. I also start a continuous ping to the router. As I work I notice that I lose my connection to work, the problem is that the wireless network keeps dropping out. The ping to the router times out and the status meter shows disconnected. A way to verify if this is occurring to you that I found is to look in the event viewer(start -> run -> eventvwr) in the system log. Look for Tcpip source events repeating over and over. The message in the event will read like "The system detected that network adapter \DEVICE\TCPIP_{A4EAF2F4-B001-4635-86C4-703EFAB3C925} was connected to the network, and has initiated normal operation over the network adapter” These events were occurring to me every 10 to 20 minutes.
I will say the range with the wireless-n stuff is really good. I went and got another WRT54G router, it is version 6 of the hardware. The WMP300N has a much better connect and signal strength than the WMP54GS that I had.
I did come across 2 problems with the WMP300N. The first problem I found is with the utility that comes with the WMP300N. The wmp300n process bounces the CPU every second. Every other second the wmp300n process causes the cpu to spike to 80% or more utilization. This is just unacceptable in that it ruins performance. If you just install the wmp300N without using the software setup utility, and select the driver from the windows installation wizard the card works fine. You must manually configure the wmp300n using the windows wireless configuration utility though. The other problem involves the Broadcom wireless utility and the “SPROM validation format” the Broadcom wireless utility gets installed with the WMP300N software from the CD, it can be found in control panel. In the Broadcom wireless utility there is a diagnostics sections. When you run the diagnostics test, they fail every time for the “SPROM validation format”. I’m not sure what the “SPROM validation format” does, but it appears to not be necessary as the card works fine other than this.
As far as I can tell the WPC300N seems to have worked fine. It tested out OK when the WRT300N did not drop the wireless network.
One big note, when I bought my first wrt54g in august of 2003 it was version 1 of the hardware. It did not even have a version number listed, this is how you can tell version 1 hardware. In the 3 years of ownership I installed updated firmware 11 times. The first firmware version I updated to was v1.30.7. This was the 4th firmware release. It had a few issues at first also.

Searching my pants of and finally finding an issue that might solve the problems with the WPC300N let me share the info. In some thread there was mention of an older driver that solved problems with the wmp300n, I have ventured replacing the ar5416.sys driver with version 6.0.1.4, 1.015.808 bytes, 6-7-2006 that you can find here http://www.campbells.org/Download/wmp300nar5416.zip
And low and behold this one does the business, no more CPU spikes, no more excessive DHCP renewals, the speed is nearly always 300 (wrt300n v2 antenna's in 45 degree angles) and the link is really stable.
Ofcourse this only works if you have the Atheros version.
    Replacing the driver is simple,
    1. disable the LAN connection
    2. stop the WPC300NSvc service3. copy /b %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\ar5416.sys %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\ar5416-old.sys
    4. copy ar5416.sys %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers
    5. enable the LAN connection
    6. start the WPC300NSvc service

  • INVALID CHECKSUM: Motorola SBG6580 wireless modem router and software updates (10.7.4)

Tried to install 10.7.4 via software update dropdown on my MacMini over ethernet on my home computer network, failed.  Downloaded Combo Client 10.7.4 update from apple.com. Downloaded fine.  Failed to mount with invalid checksum error.  Tried to download on Win7 Dell laptop on my same home network via Wi-Fi, and copied to MacMini via USB flashdrive.  Copied ok, but mounting returned invalid checksum again.  Went to work, downloaded Combo Client 10.7.4 onto USB flashdrive, came home, copied it, mounted and installed just fine!
So, kept trying to download Combo Client from apple.com on my home MacMini.  Kept failing, invalid checksum. Did this about 20 times during a few days, and actually got two of them to mount without the checksum error.  Realized that something in my network was failing, intermittently.
Figured at this point it was either the Motorola SBG6580 modem wireless router or Comcast cable ISP service.
Went to best buy and bought a new Motorola SurfBoard SBG6580.  Installed it, provisioned it with Comcast.  Took about 20 mins with Comcast pushing over the same new Motorola firmware that was released in MID FEB 2012.  I think it is 3.3.1.  Tried to download Combo Client and invalid checksum again. Installed a new Motorola SurfBoard SB6121 modem (which has a very different firmware BTW) and it download and mounted the Combo Client 10.7.4 update just fine!
Realized it was the firmware that was causing it, not a broken modem.
Comcast pushes over cable automatically new firmware that is given to them by Motorola.  Apparently no did a thorough check large DMG files that require a checksum and it is therefore somehow corrupting them when downloading.  Earlier this year the firmware was updated 3.1 to 3.3.1 then Comcast pulled it and downgraded all SBG6580 back to 3.1.  Then in mid Feb they reuploaded 3.3.1 firmware.  That is the one causing the problems.
You can either wait it out till they push a new one that fixes it, and have all your large DMG files transferred from another internet connection and copy them over, or just get rid of that horrible SBG6580.  That is what I did and now using a Motorola SB6121 modem with a Cisco EA2700 wireless routher.
Let me know if any of you are also experiencing this issue and if/when Comcast/Motorola will fix it.

No, nothing custom that I did. Besides turning off the WPS thing as a possible security problem (we dont need it anyway) and setting the wireless passwords/SSID/channel stuff, everything is as it was factory or changed by Comcasts profile.
It's obvious if you replaced the SBG6580 with a two-peice combo and the problem went away, that it seems to be with the SBG6580. Just weird to me becuase a problem like that would almost seem more like a hard disk or web browser problem. TCP/IP has a checksum/retransmission layer or protocol built in, if short or defective packets show up, they would be sent again.
I mean I've seen like cheap 24 port 10/100mb switches running at 100% throughput, to the point they reboot. Anything connected to them stops or slows down but generally get going where they left off, unless the connection got severed.
I'm just saying a bad iso or dmg file, had to had bytes changed or missing, like the web browsers buffer or a bad block write on the disk drive saving it. There was a lot of talk about the SBG6580 on dslreports and comcast discussion groups, would be interesting to see if anyone else mentioned it for that model.

Software I user Premiere Pro CS5, After Effects CS5, SoundBooth CS5 and Photoshop CS5. My question for software is how to best set it up. I have seen many caching/Scratch setups and various CPU Ram allocations and honestly I am a bit confused by it. Also the render Performance vs Memory seems to make no difference in render times. Is one better to select over the other? I use Dynamic Linking a lot so I am not sure if that makes a difference in anything.
I know all this info can be found in various threads in the forum but I get some conflicting info as I read through them.
One last question. Should a reboot be done prior to exporting? I might spend hours doing effects and cuts and I am concerned the RAM gets a little full so I reboot before I render because it gives me a warm fuzzy, but is it really necessary?
    Thanks in advance... TJ

Thanks for the reply.. Can you recommend or direct me to the software settings in Premiere and AE?
***EDIT*** One other thing. Would I get much of a performace boost by upgrading my GPU to a 485 or my CPU to a 950?

  • Cannot complete wireless setup for Officejet 4500 G510n using HP Installer

    Hi,
I hope someone can help me with this problem.
I bought an Officejet 4500 G510n and all was working fine on my old MacBook laptop. I have recently switched to a MacBook Air running OS X 10.8 and I can no longer connect wirelessly to this printer.
    I have tried the following:
    - resetting printer settings from OS X "Preferences" using USB cable.
    - disconnecting USB cable to printer.
    - downloading and installing the latest software drivers for OS X 10.8
    - reconnect USB cable to printer to start printer setup.
The problem arrises when I am performing the set-up task:
    - Screen shows invalid network details and gives me no option to continue.... only to go back to the previous page. I am stuck with no options at the moment.
Attached is the screen-shot of what I'm seeing.
Any help would be very grateful.
    John

From what you describe, you are using a USB cable but the information displayed there is for wireless. What you would want to do is install the printer using the USB cable and selecting USB installation, then use the software to complete the USB to Wireless conversion.
Either this, or you can set up the printer on your wireless network using the wireless setup wizard and then install using Networked - Wireless as the installation type.
    Happy Holidays!

  • Deskjet 460 802.11g wireless setup on Win7

    {Personal Information Removed}
There has to be someone in HP who can explain clearly how to set up a Deskjet 460 with 802.11g card in "infrastructure" mode on a router, using Win7. Surely!
The 460 was not fully supported on Win7, but Win7 has a driver which works with a USB cable. The challenge is how you get an infrastructure network profile into the 802.11g card when the tools on the Starter CD are XP-only - actually, even if they were to work on Win7, they have disappeared from the HP website, so you cannot download them.
Looking at a previous thread (http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-All-in-One-Install-Setup/Issues-with-DeskJet-460-WiFi-and-Windo...), lots of folks are as frustrated as I am, but nobody has so far answered the key question.
Before dumping XP I created a network profile on a USB stick, using the Starter CD - this was an xml file in a folder named SMRTNTKY. It was supposed to allow me to replicate the settings on other printers (or on mine if I lost the settings). Now, it is not recognised by the printer, but I have no idea why. I have cleared the profile, inserted the USB stick, powered off and on, with no change - the printout still shows the network profile as ad hoc / hpsetup.
I and others need a clearly documented process for creating an infrastructure network profile and for getting it into the printer, so we can use the device with Win7. If this needs software, we need that software to be available for download from the HP website, ideally via links from the reply (since the website is a bit of a mess to navigate. Please help.

    Hi,
Assuming you have WiFi connectivity on your laptop, try setting a temporary ad hoc connection and then use the EWS to connect the printer to your router as a workaround, such a software is not available for Windows 7:
Follow these steps to install the product on the network with the Windows 7 printer driver.
    Turn the product on.
Insert the wireless printer card into the printer.
Reset the wireless network settings on the product:
Reset all of the 802.11 wireless profiles: Press and hold the Power button ( ), press the Cancel ( ) button two times, and then press the Resume button ( ) eight times. Release all buttons.
Click the Wireless icon on your system traym then connect to the HPSETUP netowrk.
Wait two minutes for the printer to obtain an IP Address, and then print a wireless configuration page:
Make sure the product is on and idle.
Press and hold the Cancel button ( ) for more than two seconds. A wireless configuration page prints.
Locate the IP address / URL printed on this page, type it into your web browser to access its EWS page.
Open the Network / Wireless tab, click the Wireless option or the Wireless Setup Wizard and follow the steps  to connect the pritner to your router.
Press and hold the Cancel button ( ) for more than two seconds. A wireless configuration page prints. note the listed IP.
Right click the USB printer icon within Devices and printers, select Printer Properties. Within the Ports tab create a new Standard TCP/IP port and type the listed IP for this port.
Hope that help, I cannot guide you further within the EWS as I do not have the exact device but you should locate it within the networking area of the EWS

  • Printer does accept the WEP key. any Solution, c309g wireless setup

    Hi,
    i have a Photosmart c309 g printer.
I have been on phone with the tech for almost 8 hrs but with no solution. The end result being, they suggested to replace the printer.
when i and also with assistance with the technician, ran the Wireless setup wizard,  my network is detected. when i hit ok on it, it prompts for WEP. Then i enter it, it displays connecting and then displays "ERROR " "Invalid WEP".
Below are the other few steps i tried......... >
a> the printer was RESET , i guess it was SemiFull Reset . Then we tried running the wireless setup wizard, and it ended up with the same error  "ERROR " "Invalid WEP".
b> we installed through USB to have it in wireless .... the same issue.
c> the tech asked me have the WEP key changed. I called my Router mfd and got the WEP key changed to only Numbers ( earlier it was alphanumeric ) , we then tried running the wireless setup wizard .. we got the same error message.
d> We also tried Manually adding the IP, subnet mask and default gateway .... but the ping does not work. It says 100% loss.
The tech concluded that it could be a problem with the printer wireless circuit . hence advised to replace the printer.
I am returning the printer to the stores in a day or 2days. Let me know if "returning the printer " is the right thing to do or is there anyone over here who could suggest me steps to resolve it.
    Thanks !!!!!!!!

Let's try an experiment.  Since I'm not sure of your exact configuration, I'd like  you to try some one of the following:
If your Linksys wireless-router is also your ADSL modem -- disconnect the telephone line from the Linksys wireless-router and then power cycle the Linksys (unplug power, wait 30 seconds, plug power back in).  Leave the telephone line unplugged.
    -- or --
If your ADSL modem is separate from your Linksys wireless-router, disconnect the LAN cable between the ADSL modem and the Linksys wireless-router and then power cycle the Linksys (unplug power, wait 30 seconds, plug power back in).  Leave the LAN cable disconnected.
Power cycle the printer.  Wait 60 seconds for the wireless-router to power up completely and then run the C309g Wireless Setup Wizard from the printer's front panel (Setup -> Network -> Wireless Setup Wizard).
If the printer connected successfully, then there is one more change we need to make and that is to set a static IP address for the printer.
Open the printer's internal web page by browsing to its IP address.  Select Networking and then Wireless (802.11).  Under the IPv4 Configuration tab, select Manual IP:
For Manual IP Address, use the existing printer IP address plus an offset.  For example, if the printer's IP address is currently 192.168.0.5, then use 192.168.0.30.
For Manual Subnet Mask, use 255.255.255.0
For Manual Default Gateway, leave blank.  This is important.
    Select Manual DNS Server:
Leave both the Manual Preferred DNS Server and Manual Alternate DNS Server fields empty.  This is important.
    Press Apply.
Turn off the wireless-router and reconnect the cable (telephone or LAN).  Now turn off  the printer and all computers connected to your network.  Wait 60 seconds then turn on the wireless-router and then turn on the printer.  Then turn on the computers.
Finish up by installing the SW on the computers you want to print from.  One more suggestion -- do not install the HP Customer Participation Program.

  • Wireless setup wizard on hp 7410 all in one doesn't give promt for next step in setting up wireless

The printer is connected to a computer (windows xp) through usb I want to enable the wirless for my laptop (windows 7). I ran the wireless setup wizard and it says searching for available networks then goes back to the home screen. I ran the network utility and the printer doesn't show up but the printer is shown under devices and printers when I click start. The wirless router is a D-Link dir-815 wireless N dual band router. it is 802.11g and a compliant.

Uh, this is a wireless printer, so let's set it up that way:
    - Disconnect the USB cable to the printer.
    - in Start > All Programs > Hewlett-Packard> [your printer model] > Add a Device.
    - Choose to add a Wireless or Network device.
    - At one point in the installation it will ask you to TEMPORARILY connect a USB cable.  Do so only after it asks.
    - Remove the USB cable when it asks.
Now that the printer is wirelessly connected to your network you can do the same procedure with other computers on the network, only you will NOT use the USB cable to communicate network settings to the printer - that has already been done with the first computer.

  • WRT54G Wireless Setup page won't load and other issues.

Well I have had quite the mess the last 24 hours. I'll start from the beginning and attempt to spell out the issues I am having. I have had this router for 4 years or so and have never had a problem.
I recently purchased a PS3 and started using the wireless feature that it offeres. Well I was having problems staying connected and was running in to IP address conflicts with my laptop. So I thought I would cure that by moving the router to the ps3 and using a wired connection for its internet. So that is what I did and that is when the problems started snowballing!!  After I got the router moved and everything set up, all seemed well at first.
Shortly thereafter I realized I was still getting IP conflicts. So i did some research and saw where I could dedicate an address for the ps3 and also change some of the wireless settings on the router homepage. I previously had never password protected my network. I'm in a rural area and there aren't many people around that would be trying to get on it. But I figured since I was there I would rename the network and password protect it and all of that. Well that didn't help either. I was still having problems.
I then did all of the resets. Online, on the unit and also a power cycle. So I was back to square one with the settings at this point. So today I noticed that my connection would go from its norm of 54mbps down to1 and then lose connection. I did the resets and restarts and all of that, to no avail. Then it got to the point where it wouldn't connect at all. I checked the actual connection by connecting my computer directly to the modem and it worked flawlessly. So I know it is a router problem. I also tried using 2 seperate laptops and they both responded the same.
I think part of the issue I had then was that the modem and router were on my entertainment center and weren't very high and were in a shelf. Also, my surround sound receiver does use a wireless connection to 2 of its speakers. I didn't know the proper placement of a router until I had this problem. Now that it is back in its previous location the connection seems to be normal, although once in the last hour I did drop down to 1mbps and have to disconnect and reconnect. But it hasn't happened again so far.
However, I am unable to access the wireless page on the router setup page. I did yesterday but it won't load today. On either computer. So I am unable to change the name of my network or assign a password or change any other wireless setting. And again, I've tried every reset method and it still don't work.
Also, does anyone have any advice on the conflicting IP addresses with the ps3? They sent me an email stating that it may be a port or firewall issue? After doing some online research it seems this particualr router has had a lot of problems getting along with the ps3.
I hope I haven't put in too much information but I was just trying to make sure I had any questions I could think of answered ahead of time. I've tried about every avenue I could already. I tried the chat help and was told I didn't qualify and was sent to the phone assistance who after a half hour realized I didn't qualify for that help either. So, here I am!!! Thanks ahead of time!

Make sure that there is no static IP address on any of your computer. You can assign a static IP address on Play station.
Connect the computer to the router with the Ethernet cable.
Download t he latest firmware from Linksys website and save it on your computer.
Open the setup page of the router. Go to Administration tab and click on Firmware upgrade sub tab. Browse the firmware file that you have already downloaded and upgrade it on your router.
After upgrading the firmware on your router, it is recommended that you should reset the router and reconfigure it. Press and hold the reset button on the router for 30 seconds. Release the reset button and wait for 30 seconds. Power cycle the router and reconfigure it.
Change the MTU size on the router to 1365.
Go to Wireless tab and change the wireless network name and channel to 11. Also change the wireless security settings.

  • On the initial set up for apple tv it just sits there trying to set the date and time . it is a wireless setup and the ipaddress and router address is correct . I can't get by this screen

On the initial set up for apple tv it just sits there trying to set the date and time . it is a wireless setup and the ipaddress and router address is correct . I can't get by this screen. The setting is on automatic and I have picked a city in my time zone yet it still tries to set a time and date but fails.
    thanks

Make sure router is up to date. Try ethernet to rule out any wifi issues. Reboot ATV and router.

I have a Macbook Pro (2013) OS 10.8.1.  Moved into a university house and need to use ethernet cable. Bought the Thunderbold connection but when I try to use the ethernet with it a webpage comes up saying Wireless Setup and Router Setup? I have previously used ethernets in similar situations and never had to input information like this?

I have tried to turn of the wi-fi but that doesn't work either. I think it could be a something to do with the internet provider because virginmedia comes up on the webpage. This is what comes up:
    Wireless Setup
    WGR614V9
    V1.0.11_1.0.1VGUK
    Wireless Setup
    Name (SSID):
    Security Passphrase (WPA-PSK):

    Channel:
                       01                   06                   11
    Router Setup
    Router Password:

    any ideas?!?

  • Airport express setup with wireless n, g and b devices

    Hi
I'm trying to determine the best way to configure my network.  I have an Airport express N 1st generation connected to my cable modem.  When I connect my computer directly to the cable modem via Ethernet I can achieve 50mbps down.10mbps up according to speedtest and comcasts tests.  However, when I connect the airport express (using a free non occupied channel, wpa2 and default settings)  to the modem and connect wirelessly on my computer (has a wireless n card) the speeds are greatly reduced to 5-10mbps down.
Here is a list of the other devices connected.  It's my guess the wireless g and b devices are slowing down the network.  Is there anything I can do to improve my speed or would a dual band router be the best course of action?  I also have an old airport express G that I can use if possible (don't know if I can somehow route the slower traffic there)
    iPhone 5
    iPhone 4S
    Apple TV (wireless n)
    Ps3 (wireless g)
    Roku (wireless b)
    Dell laptop wireless n
    Dell laptop wireless g
    Thanks in advance

Thanks for clarifying that for me. If your goal is to use this second wireless network just for 802.11b/g devices, I would recommend using one of your older 802.11b/g AXs instead of the newer one. In addition (whichever AX you end up using), not only does it need to be connected by Ethernet, it should be reconfigured as a bridge. This will allow any wireless clients connected to it to gain Internet access from the AEBSn.
Another thing you will want to do is to make sure that its 2.4 GHz radio is operating on a radio channel that is at least 3-5 channels away from the 2.4 GHz radio on the AEBSn. This will prevent any type of Wi-Fi interference between them.
For the remaining AX & AXns, you can now go ahead and configure them to join the appropriate wireless network for streaming. I would suggest joining the AX to the AX providing the 802.11b/g network, and the AXns to join the AEBSn's wireless network.

  • Enterprise setup and software

    Dear friends,
I own a couple shoes retail stores. The information I get is through notebooks and paper material in general.
I would like to setup a database which will store data like customers, products, warehouse, etc.
I cannot use software to enhance accounting, since Greek law don't accept random developer ERP software, but the ones the gorvenment has approved.
Nevertheless, I don't care about enhancing accounting at the moment, I just wish to get better information route.
Would you propose a hardware (hardware & networking) and software setup that will effectively serve my information needs ??
After some googling, I think that a mac server running lightspeed and several iPads will serve me well...
    Are there better alternatives ???
    Thanks

Mac (does not need to be a server) runnig filemaker and couple of ipads with filemaker also loaded.  up and running with 20 mins.

  • What is the best setup (cords, hardware and software) for converting tape cassettes to mp3 using iMac?

I have a huge collection of tape cassettes that I want in my iTunes library.  I want to know what the best cords, hardware (type of Tape cassette player/recorder) and software to use.

It depends on what kind of inputs your Mac has:
If your iMac is a 2012 or older model it probably has an audio line input, in which case you can directly connect your tape deck outputs to your iMac.  Generally this requires a cable with 2x RCA male connectors on one end and 1x 1/8" (3.5mm) stereo male connector on the other end.
If you have a more recent iMac that does not have a line input you will need to get a USB audio interface like a Focusrite Forte, but in these cases you will need to pay attention to the kind of cable inputs the USB device has.
In both cases you will need recording software.  There are many choices.  I have used Sound Studio with great success for tapes, vinyl and live recordings.  (Note: if you are using a USB audio interface it may come with its own recording software.)
Pay attention to whether or not your tapes were recorded with or without Dolby B or C noise reduction; and also whether or not your tape deck supports none, Dolby B or Dolby C - getting each tape matched with your deck settings makes a big difference in the results.  And depending on how quality conscious you are you may also want or need some noise reduction software, in which case I suggest looking at Wave Arts MR Noise, SoundSoap or Audacity.
You might also consider just purchasing selected CDs instead of investing in all the work required to set up, record, edit & clean up recordings from some of your old tapes.
