Wireless Speed Test Great - Browsing Not So Great

I have a wireless setup and my MacBook Pro web browsing seems to be a bit slow. I ran a speed test (FTP) and it was blazing for my connection (over 1MBPS on Hughes.netb Satellite). The web browsing doesn't equate to this speed. Are there any Safari settings I should check?

Some satellite systems have fairly high latencies. The "standard" tcp/ip configuration is not optimized for such connections. You might try installing Apple's Broadband Optimizer and see if it improves performance.
Note, however, that speedtests only benchmark your broadband connection's best throughput. Browsing on the other hand has more to do with individual site conditions. Some sites are slow, some are fast. It depends upon server capacity, bandwidth limits imposed, server load, and many other factors. Except for fast download servers you may rarely see surfing speeds as fast as the benchmark speed test.

    AT&T your new ARRIS NVG599 Router/Wireless is not a great product for Gigapower customers. The built in wireless on this device really has poor quality. My previous 2Wire589 had a lot better reception and quality. At least when it was a 100% I was able to get full range in my home. With the ARRIS NVG599 coming in default 100% for the wireless the range is very poor to include speed quality with just one wireless device on it. My friend and I who both have gigapower have the save exact issues and live in two different parts of Austin, TX area. Our wireless receiver with uverse keeps freezing and pixelating. Very irritating!!! The tech you sent to my house by the way did an outstanding job in triaging this poor hardware setup you give to your Gigapower customers. I felt bad the for guy because he was stumped just as much as I was. Luckily I was fortunate enough for him to see my issues with the wireless TV box. The tech cleaned the fiber pair. Signal quality was still great before and after the cleaning. Recrimped all copper line. Again Layer 1 is not the issue when it comes to cabling. Only layer 1 issue is the hardware. He even replaced my router with a new one and the wireless quality became worse. He's like the fifth tech to come to my house provide great support since I was upgraded to the new ARRIS NVG599 router. So again this particular model you are giving us really isn't great and I am hoping you all are looking for a better quality product such as the 2Wire or Cisco product. I prefer Cisco quite honestly. I am very disappointed as I never had issues with my 2Wire. Only issue was not getting my true Gigapower speed due to hardware capabilities. You all need to allow your customers to customize their own routers. Why do I have to use AT&T's DNS for DNS? Why can't I use OPENDNS which is a lot more safer my family since we have younger children. I mean if all else fails due to customer issue you can always do a hardware default reset. All if you can stay away from this router they provide as it really is a poor quality of a router and most of product for gigapower customers!

    You can change it away from 192.168.1.0/24.  But you cannot change it anywhere under 10.0.0.0/8.  But 192.168.2.0/24 is fine, and I've heard of people using 172.16.0.0/16 as well.
    The DNS is locked in part due to the double (or triple) duty as a gateway for TV.  You can always purchase your own router and install it behind the NVG 599 and set it up for whatever DNS and/or subnet you want.

    Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

  • Ethernet from AE extender works great. Wireless not so great.

    I am using Airport Express to extend the wireless signal from my Airport Extreme. If I connect my computer to the Express, using an Ethernet cable, I get 28MB down. If I stand directly in front of either the Extreme or Express, not connected by ethernet, using wireless, its 7mb download speed. The wireless signal strength is excellent.

    Are you sure that your Win7 computer is connecting wirelessly to the Express and not the Extreme when you got these download speed readings?
    There may be two issues here: 1) The Express is configured to join the Extreme's Wi-Fi network and not extend it, or 2) Either the distance or Wi-Fi interference between base stations is such that the Express can only rebroadcast the Extreme's network with a much lower bandwidth. Regardless of signal strength.
    If you have verified that the Extreme and Express are configured properly for an extended network, then please check out the following AirPort User Tip on optimal placement of the extending base station.

  • Speed Tests Results for 802.11ac Wireless Connections

    Using the new Apple MacBook Air with 802.11ac wireless, I tested copying a file and a folder to both the new 802.11ac AirPort Extreme router housing a USB-connected hard disk and the less recent 802.11n Apple AirPort Extreme router housing a similar USB-connected hard disk.
    The results of the tests are summarized in the table below. The movie file was ripped from a DVD movie, and the Microsoft folder is simply the Microsoft Office 2011 folder in my Applications folder containing 14,231 items.
    The MacBook Air computer was located 6–8 feet away from each router with no intervening obstructions. While this was not a scientific test, it demonstrated to me that 802.11ac wireless is clearly superior to 802.11n in a real world setting. I assume that the lower relative performance of 802.11ac versus 802.11n for the large folder containing many files is due to overhead in copying and writing files from and to the hard disks. Ditto for the Gigabit Ethernet test.

    Im seriously not impressed with the E90. It sounded to Good to be True. What a Dissapointment. Sorry Nokia, It's your Fault. Does anyone feel the same?
    Lets put it out on the Forum.
    They need to do something about it.

    vmoisa and all others who say 'E90 is not as great as it seems' I do not totally agree with you. I am coming from 9300 and 9300i usage since two years (these two were the only phones I owned in last two years). I agree on few points like we have no key board shortcuts on E90 and Menu for all applications etc etc. But I do not agree that E90 is not a professional product.
    In my view it is a DEFINATE upgrade to communicators.
    What did we have in previous communicators that we don't have in E90?
    Fax? For God Sake, how many of us used Fax from a phone and how often?
    keyboard shortcuts? Have you noticed the difference in speed of this new machine? I think it is covered by speed.
    Menu? Options does equally good job.
    All the other features are same, either built in or purchaseable
    What do we have in E90 that we didn't have in previous communicators;
    A reasonably good camera (once you get to know how to use its button)
    A built in GPS, which does exactly what is required from it.
    Same OS in both outer and inner screens.
    A larger inner and outer display.
    3G capability.
    A very high speed processor.
    A very reliable over all system.
    It took me 10 days to understand and switch over to E90 and I am very happy at my choice. I know I am carrying an all-in-one small gadget in my pocket.
    Maybe I am one of the lucky guys who doesn't has any of the problems mentioned in threads of this Forum and other forums but honestly saying if I loose my E90 or break it I will again buy E90 within same working day.

    I had a recent not so great experience with Adobe Connect that I need you help on.  Keep in mind that I tested the Connect session with the presenter the day before and Connect worked very well.   On the day of the event I opened the room to get the speaker logged in as a “Presenter”.  No problems with that however I noticed that there was no “Share My Screen” button to be found anywhere. In essence I could not get him connected.
    To resolve this I was forced to close out the old session and start a fresh one where I could share the presenter’s screen.  Once we were going a few of the participants mentioned that they were having problems getting audio.  Most online said they were fine but a few mentioned that we not getting the audio fluidly.  I explained that it may be due to their bandwidth and to be patient that it would cache.  Then I notice that same issue that I had talked about with a Connect technician before where all audio stops working after about  1hour into the presentation.  They way I have resolved this was to log the presenter out and log him back in.
    Keep in mind that I am online with 3 other computers via WiFi monitoring and seeing the presentation as the online viewers are seeing it and I can see it coming through flawlessly.  So, for the few who had problems I attributed it to the lack of bandwidth in their area.   However, at 1 hour into the presentation the audio dropped out completely while the video was fine and this reflected on my machines as well.  This is the continuing experience that I keep having with Connect.  The total amount of people online was 9.
    Now, I have a Photoshop user group meeting that will take place online this Thursday  June 17th from 5 – 7pm featuring Dave Cross and we have about 200 people registered for that. It would be great if we could have one of the engineers attend that session.
    I look forward to your reply.

    Wireless does not seem to stay on.  Printed a wireless network test report and it says, "The wireless radio is not functioning. Contact HP support". 

    Let's reset the printer - turn the printer off, hold the # and 6 keys while turning it back on.

    The printer is a Photosmart C309a all-in-one.  I've used this printer for some time and did so wirelessly earlier today.  Upon ordering a print job the printer failed to produce results.  I ran a Network Configuration Page where it showed the printer to be offline with no Active Connection Type.  I then ran a Wireless Network Test report and received the message: "The wireless radio is not functioning.  Contact HP Support."  IS THERE A FIX FOR THIS?
    I reinstalled the printer software on my computer configuring it with a USB connection, in order to be able to use the printer.  I was able to use it with the USB connection but would most definitely prefer a wireless connection.  I also turned off the printer, router and computer and turned them on in the order outlined in the user's manual, but to no avail.  This, of course, I did before reinstalling the software for a USB connection.

    I afraid the error indicate an an hardware failure..
    You may try using a wired ethernet cable as a workaround, the printer will need to be services in order to repair its wireless card.

    Naturally my printer is out of warranty.  Has anyone had experience with this problem.  If so, how did you resolve it?

    Is the error message from a diagnostic running on the computer or from the front panel of the c309a?  The page here may help.

    How come although iPads are getting more powerful, the iOS apps from apple are so mediocre and just not that great? We spend all this money for the latest ipad and all we get is these $5 video and music apps from apple. Why create the iOS platform and only offer so so apps like IMovie and GarageBand ? While other developers are offering much better apps like pinnacle studio for video, Cubasis and Auria for music production, apple has not showed much growth in terms of innovation. While there's nothing wrong with making an app like GarageBand where "anyone " can make a song, how about something for real musicians or an app not so basic as it get for video editing? After spending 0ver $700 on an ipad I'd be willing to spend more than $5 for a better video or audio app.

    First, try a system reset although I can't give you any confidence.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
    Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
    If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
    At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
    If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

    How do I get it to just play through all the podcasts that I've downloaded just like my 1st gen?
    Group and order your podcasts to a playlist. Then play them from the playlist.

    We are attempting to post an import vendor invoice through transaction    FB60 for Israel company code . Since the tax charged by the vendor is not fixed every time , we are entering the tax amount in the    FB60 screen manually , without selecting 'calculate tax'.The amount of tax is greater than the amount of expense as per the real business scenario. For example amount of expense is 100, amount of tax is 200 and the total amount charged by the vendor is 300 .However when we simulate the posting we get an error - The tax amount must not be greater than the tax base-Message no. FF747
    We tried putting a very high percentage in the tax code also but it didn't help
    We would like to go ahead with this posting. Could you pl throw light on the same . ? Is there any way (OSS note ) or a work around which can resolve the issue ?

    User is trying to "Relase to Account" in t-code VF01 he is getting an error message The tax amount must not be greater than the tax base.
    During Debuging i found the error is raised in Function module      RV_ACCOUNTING_DOCUMENT_CREATE
    Message raised is
    Message Class : FF
    Message number: 747
    Mesage "The tax amount must not be greater than the tax base"
    Request to through some lights on this issue.
