Wiring the PXI-4132

Hi all,
I'd like to know how to wire the PXI-4132. You can check its specification following links below.
http://sine.ni.com/nips/cds/view/p/lang/fr/nid/207349
http://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/375128a.pdf
- My problem here is i don't understand what a guard terminal is. (check p5 on pdf)
The output HI and LO correspond to the higher and lower (current or voltage) source you need to source.
The sense HI and LO correspond to the higher and lower (current or voltage) measurement you need to measure.
- How to source voltage and measure current ?
Seems to happen in the same time. That means output HI and HI sense are connected to the same point and Lo Sense and output LO as well.
- Does someone get a wiring schematic of PXI-4132 ?
Thank you for further reading and discussion
Vincent

  • To high measurement time for NI PXI 4132

    Hi,
I'm using 4132 to measure very small current of photo transistor device. with 25v source to the DUT it takes me more than 100ms to get an stable current reading.
How will i reduce measurement time?
    tnx!

    Hi edakoto,
What current levels are you reading?  How are you acquiring the data in software?
One thing to try is to reduce the Aperture time of the device.  The PXI 4132 defaults to an aperture time of 16.6 ms.  You can reduce this using the Configure Aperture Time VI or function.  For more information see here:

  • My PXI-4132 has stopped outputting voltage

I have an NI PXIe-1073 chassis with an NI PXI-4132 card installed.
I had the system turned off over the weekend & started it up to do some linearity measurements on an ADC  yesterday. As usual, I was going to do a quick check of my setup by using the NI DC-power soft front panel to output some dc voltages & check that the data converter was giving ball park correct codes before I started a vi to sweep the input voltage & collect real data.
I started MAX(measurement & automation explorer) & it told me that my card passed self test. Then I ran the test panel & tried to force 4V at the DUT, but my scope showed 75mV.
I removed all the cabling & measured again at the front connector. All the lights on the front were green & the scope was set to 1MΩ input termination, but again I got no voltage on any pin of the 4132. I was expecting it to come out on “HI”.  Then I checked “Sense HI” & then all of the pins, but no voltage. The scope ground is connected through a banana lead to the chassis ground on the front of the card. I measured my HP 1.8V power supply & got 1.8V on the scope.
I rebooted the chassis & the pc 3 times each , with the same result. What  might I be doing wrong? Is there a vi I could run to reset everyting? I have reset the card with MAX.
I have had this unit for 3 years & I don't think it has ever done this before.

    Hello Bob,
You can try to self-calibrate your device (In MAX, right click the device and select Self-Calibrate). If there is something wrong with the hardware then the calibration is going to fail. Please document the result if there is any error. Please remember to disconnect all the cabling previous to the calibration.
What is the value read in the front panel for voltage and current after you enable the output? Are you working with the Local or Sense measurement mode? Please connect your oscilloscope to terminals C and F (refer to picture 7 on the link below) and configure the test panel to Local Sense, what is the value read on your oscilloscope?

  • Is the PXIe-PCIe8361 adequate for this system? And external clock questions...

    Hi all,
I have spent some time piecing together a system and I'd like a sanity check before pulling the trigger on this purchase.  The system will contain the following hardware:
    1. Chassis: PXIe-1078
    2. Controller: PXIe-PCIe8361
    3. 3 x PXIe-6363 (16 analog inputs each card, 32 digital inputs each card, all internally clocked @ 10kHz)
    4. 2 x PXI-6224 (32 digital inputs on one, 8 digital inputs on the other, externally clocked in "bursts" of 62.5khz)
    5. Labview software
The three PXI-6363 cards will be responsible for  a mix of analog and digital measurements made @ 10 kHz, timed continuously by the onboard clock.
One PXI-6224 will be clocked externally @ 62.5 kHz and will be used to collect digital data on a 32-bit port.  These clock pulses will not be continuous, but will occur in bursts lasting for 2ms every 20ms.
The other PXI-6224 will be clocked externally @ 62.5kHz as well and will be used to collect digital data on an 8-bit port. These clock pulses will not be continuous, but will occur in bursts lasting for 2 ms at random intervals.
    My questions are:
    1. Am I planning anything that looks unreasonable for this hardware?
    2.  Should I expect issues with data transfer rates with the PXIe-PCIe8361?  I will be operating well within the advertised 110MB/s throughput of the device.  I plan to stream this method... NI Fast TDMS data streaming
    3.  I have only ever used NI cards for continuous measurements made by an onboard clock.  When I set up a task to collect data that is externally-timed, will the DAQ be expecting a "continuous" clock pulse, or will the system wait patiently for clock pulses to arrive at any rate (any rate within the spec of the card, of course)?
    Thanks, any input is appreciated.

    Hello LucasH0011
1-As long as you put the PXI-6224  and the PXIe-6363 cards in the corresponding slots, meaning the express(PXIe-6363) in the express and the hybrid(PXI-6224) in the hybrid.
2-I think you would  not have issues with the transfer rate.
3-Your timing specifications sound reasonable to me, I think you will be fine.
Here is a document that has useful concepts for the use of cards:
    http://www.ni.com/white-paper/3615/en/
It is for the M-Series, but the concepts apply to the X-Series as well.

  • How to use the PXI's 10MHz backplane clock to synchronize two or more 6031E boards?

    Hi,
I'm trying to use two 6031E boards to acquire multiple channels Analog Inputs, and I'd like to sync them with the PXI backplane clock (not the RTSI bus). I found an example from NI, "Two E-Series Shared ScanClk.vi", and modified it a bit. But I'm wondering if the two boards must have the same acqusition rate? e.g. Can I have 1 board acquiring at 1kHz while the other one at 20Hz? and if yes, how do I do it?
Your input will be very much appreciated. Thanks!
    Dan

Unfortunately, E Series boards cannot synchronize with the 10 MHz PXI backplane clock. They do, however, have access to the PXI trigger lines, which are basically the RTSI lines. Except for line 6 which is the star trigger line. They can only read from this line.
The example program you have selected will definitely be part of your solution. It allows you to share the scan clock timing signal between two boards. If you would like the slave board to acquire at a slower scan rate, you could always route the master's scan clock to one of the slave's on-board counters which can act as a frequency divider. The output of this counter can become the new slower scan clock for the slave board. Use the Generate Pulse Train shipping example VI as your frequency d
ivider. Finally, make sure you route the signals appropriately and you'll be in business.
    I hope this helps!

  • How to generate a gps signal using the PXI-5671 after generating a gps binary file using the gps toolkit

    Hi,
I am trying to test a GPS receiver and would like to use the PXI-5671 to stream a GPS binary data file which was generated using the GPS toolkit. I tried using the RFSG Arbitrary Waveform Generation.vi but it doesn't work.  Is there a sample code that will allow me to do this?
    Thank you.

    Hello,
The NI-RFSG driver certainly allows you to stream waveform files to signal generators without the use of the GPS Toolkit, as shown here. However, the NI-RFSG driver does not provide the user with out-of-box applications that can stream GPS waveforms with Almanac and Ephemeris information to various signal generators. For this reason, the NI GPS toolkit will be needed.
The only alternative is that you will gather your own Almanac and Ephemeris files and implement your own functionality using the base RFSG driver to generate and stream the GPS signals. This is something that you would need to do on your own, which could prove to be difficult, thus making the GPS toolkit the best option.
    I hope this information helps.

  • Accessing the 40MHz clock on the PXI-7831R FPGA Module

How do you access the 40MHz clock on the PXI-7831R FPGA Module?
I'm trying to the FPGA to do RS-422 communication with UART and HDLC protocols. I want to divide the clock signal to generate the necessary baud rates. I've downloaded the FPGA serial examples as a start, but I'm looking for a direct connection to the 40MHz signal.
I'm Using LabVIEW 7.1 and FPGA Module 1.1 with the LabVIEW Embedded Project Structure.

    settlesj,
If you are looking to have access to a 40MHz digital signal,  it is possible to generate and acquire one using 7831R and LabVIEW FPGA module.  To do this you would need to take advantage of the different compile speeds available with the FPGA module. The available compile clock frequencys are: 40MHz, 80MHz, 120MHz, 160MHz, 200MHz
For example to generate a 40MHz pulse train you could compile with 80MHz clock frequency (2 clock pulses are needed for a square wave period).
You will have to be careful when generating code because compiling with a clock frequency higher than the default one (40MHz) could give compile errors in some cases. These errors could happen more frequently if the code is more complex and needs more time to be executed.
I have attached an example program that generates a 40 MHz signal on a digital line.  From there you could divide down the clock rate to which ever specified baud rates you needed.  As a side not the LabVIEW FPGA 8.0 Module added the ability to derive additional clocks from FPGA base clocks in a LabVIEW project.  Hope this helps.

  • How to reset the Terminal Count indicator on the PXI-6608

    Dear Community,
Is there any way to reset the terminal count indicator on the PXI-6608? When I Use Get Attribute.vi I get the correct value the first time, but unfortunately (unlike DAQmx) reading the value doesn't reset it...
I'd like to keep track of how many times it has rolled over. And I don't want to use another counter to do that because I'd like to keep them free for other things.
    Thanks!

Traditional daq does not have a means to reset the terminal count indicator, as far as I know. One thing you might be able to do is change the "output mode" to "toggle" and then read the "output state" to determine rollovers by determining when the output state has changed during your application.
    I hope this helps!

    Thanks Alan,
But maybe I'm missing something. The 6723 has two connectors on it. The pinout on the spec sheet shows only one. That's why I thought I was missing the pinout of the 2nd connector. I'll go back and take a look at that again.

  • Setting Input Resistance on the PXI-4071

The specifications for the PXI-4071 DMM indicate that the input resistance can be chosen as either 10 MOhm or 10 GOhm for the 100 mV, 1 V, and 10 V ranges. I see where this can be input on the instrument soft panel, but I have been unable to locate how to configure the input resistance when using the DMM in a VI. Suggestions?

  • Is there a driver for the PXI-8310 that works with Windows 7?

The only one I can seem to find is for XP.

    Hello LouisTI,
Unfortunately there is not a Windows 7 driver for the PXI-Cardbus8310, as this is a legacy device which is currently going EOL (End of Life). The XP driver for the 8310 (which you may already have found) can be downloaded here:
    http://joule.ni.com/nidu/cds/view/p/id/370/lang/en
If using Win 7 is critical, we recommend the PXI-ExpressCard 8360 as a replacement for the 8310:

  • Changing the PXI-6624 Counter Output rate on the fly

I'm programming an application in VB.net 2005 to set several counter output channels (each with its own task) on the PXI-6624 card. I'd like to know if there is a way to change the frequency of the output without stopping the task, changing the frequency and restarting the task. I'm using the PXI-6624 card to simulate encoders and speed sensors.

  • Wiring the default name on File Dialog causes an error 43

    LabView 8.5 Pro:
I placed an express file dialog on my diagram. I wired the start path and ran my vi. As expected the open file dialog box appears, however if I wire the default name to the vi the dialog box does not display and generates an error 43. The default file name I am wiring is CT_TE5000001.xlsm. This was working fine on my previous LabView 6.1. I didn't see any entries on the known bug list. Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Thank you for the reply.
    I found my problem.
There was a \r\n appended to part of my default file name which caused it to cancel the file dialog.
The filename was CT_TE5000001\r\n.xlsm instead of the desired CT_TE5000001.xlsm.
