With 31.0, McAfee Internet Security marks ALL email as spam. What's the fix?

No matter the level of anti-spam filtering I choose, every single incoming email is tagged as spam in my inbox. (Also, FWIW, all messages go to the inbox even if I try to opt to have them sent to the McAfee anti-spam folder.) I have three PCs with the same McAfee program and Thunderbird. After the problem arose on one PC I checked the others, which had not yet been updated to 31.0. No problem until I updated T'bird. Then: BOOM! Everything is marked as spam on both of those as well.
Hard to believe that McAfee hasn't heard from other T'bird users on this. Doesn't it seem that there must be an innate conflict between McAfee IS and T'bird 31.0?
McAfee techs want to take remote access of my computer to play around with the registry, presumably looking for a corruption of some sort. I have declined, because I can't see that happening simultaneously in all three of my computers, nor do I wish to have the McAfee techs learning on my equipment. Let them solve the problem in-house.
But meantime, just in case, does anyone have a solid suggestion? Thanks!

re: ''but your boilerplate reply doesn't recognize''
This facetious remark is uncalled for and not polite to people trying to offer assistance.
McAfee needs to keep up to date if it intends to offer what it claims without causing aggrivation and issues to the user, but obviously informing them helps and this you are doing, which is good.
You ask for a workaround:
The link offers some advise from a Thunderbird perspective.
I've also done some internet searching on your behalf and located that this issue seems to occur regardless of email client.
On this McAfee forum, there is a similar question albeit a year old, with some advise on what to try.

  • Mark all emails as read

I see a lot of people with this question of how to mark all emails are read..
    Here's the solutions:
you can mark all as read at one time....
    1 go to email
    2 click edit
    3 choose one email
4 choose the mark button, but keep pushing the mark button
5 while holding down the mark button, uncheck that chosen email
6 release the mark button after a second or two
    7 choose "mark as read'
    hope this helps..
    Cheers,
    AL

    Who is the email carrier?
Gmail app has an option to mark each email as Spam.
In the desktop Yahoo, AOL, etc, there are Spam controls you can use, and emails go to the Spam folder on the phone.
If the mail app you are using doesn't have an option to mark as Spam, then go to your computer and see if you can set up Spam controls for the email there.  When the app syncs it should filter the spam according to the rules you've set up on your computer.

  • Error when trying to download AT&T's McAfee Internet Security

I have helped multiple senior citizens with downloading McAfee Internet Security Suite without any problems until about 3 weeks ago. Everytime I click on one of the 3 locations under "Account Overview"  as listed below, I get the following message; "We're sorry, the AT&T sevice you are attempting to access is not available using the login information you provided. To continue, please select the login button for one of the services below".  It wants me to login and try again.  Locations:Under My AT&T\Internet\McAfee Internet SecurityUnder "I want to"\Manage my plan & services\U-verse Internet\Download McAfee SecurityUnder U-verse Internet Pro\click on "Download McAfee" I know that you have to be a U-verse customer in order to obtain this free software and the person that I'm helping is one.  I've spoken with AT&T a couple of times while helping someone in July and they were able to resolve it by disconnecting the User ID and then reconnecting it to the account and everything worked fine.  I tried calling the other day to have them do the same solution but they told me that they would need to cancel the account, then I would need to have sales set it back up.  This is NOT what they did in July.  My second call to AT&T, I was told that this download problem was a known issue but they didn't have a timeframe as to when it might be fixed. Has anyone had this same problem and if so, did you have an success in getting it resolved?

Don't even bother w/that resource hog McAfee, use MS Essentials instead, much better product.

  • Yosemite & McAfee Internet Security Conflict

    Greetings all!
My Yosemite update has not been properly functioning - 'til now.
I just spent an hour on the phone with Apple Support, going through various iterations to fix the problem of why Yosemite would not boot up.  It turns out that AT&T had suggested that I install McAfee Internet Security and that was the source of a/the problem.  After I uninstalled it, then Yosemite booted up fine.
Ergo, if you're having a problem getting into Yosemite, try booting into Safe Mode, and then when in, uninstall McAfee Internet Security and see what happens.
    My $0.02 worth and YMMV...

As with previous posts this is usually a DHCP issue and occurs frequently especially with routers connected to Cable Modems or those Micro-Cell towers.
Unplug all Routers, AirPorts (or other off brand Wi-Fi broadcast units) and any other Wireless broadcast unit that might provide you with a WDS (often other AirPorts feeding off the signal of the AirPort closest to Cable/DSL Modem) and best to totally power down the Unit affected; lastly either hold a reset button on Cable/DSL modem for 30-45 seconds or actually power it down if an option (not suppose to power down Cable Modems that have Telephony for some odd never completely explained to me reason).
Let Cable/DSL Modem re-boot till 'all green lights'. Then power up each device involved in order from closest to farthest waiting each time for completion of initiation. Micro-cell towers can take 10 minutes to completely re-boot and you must wait for across the board green lights in my experience. Even WDS can add a few minutes till all green on mother AirPort unit.
Only NOW may you re-start the offending device and see if it will connect. Works about 99% of the time!

  • I can't open some internet videos--all I get is a spinning symbol--what's the fix??

I cannot open some internet videos with my Flash Player---all I get is a spinning symbol.
These are videos from a source that I was able to open previously---What's wrong and what's the fix ??

You are running some sort of automation when you open files - because that error message comes from automation (actions, scripts or plugins) that are trying to target something that isn't there.
Event Scripts was the obvious choice.
Automation plugins, or Flash Panels are the next most obvious -- try disabling all third party plugins and Flash Panels.
The error might come from Generator, if you have the latest Photoshop CC.

  • Norton Internet Security cannot scan emails the use SSL. How do I insure that I do not get a virus or malware by opening an email in Thunderbird?

Norton Internet Security cannot scan emails the use SSL. How do I insure that I do not get a virus or malware by opening an email in Thunderbird? I have read that you don't have to click on a link to get malware but that some email can trigger malware just by opening and reading. Any suggestions to keep my emails from triggering malware? AOL Desktop software has it's own built-in email scanner but I'm trying to get away from using their software and rely just on TB.
    Thanks

There are many aspects to this question.
First, using SSL or TLS to send and receive email is important because it prevents others from sniffing your email login. Particularly if you are using a device over wi-fi or on untrusted networks, this is critical because if others obtain your email login, bad things can happen.
Of course, using SSL or TLS with your mail server also protects the content of your email from being captured by others, so that's good too.
Second, you are correct that there can be security threats in email other than the attachments, although the attachments generally are the most dangerous. Your antivirus should protect you from bad attachments because in order to open them, they need to be written to disk in a temporary folder, and your AV software leaps into action whenever a new file is added to disk. You also can hedge your bets by using a two-step approach: first save the attachment to disk and only after it survives the real-time AV scan then launch it in the appropriate application.
Sometimes content in the message body can trigger a vulnerability in your email software or a plugin. As these vulnerabilities become known, Mozilla updates its software, but there seem to always be new issues discovered and there will never be perfect security. I'm not sure how helpful email scanning is for this problem.

Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.
In the preinstalled email application, you need to long press one email to mark it. When an email is marked, you can either press the emails you want to mark as read or you can press in the top left corner to mark all your emails. You can then press the "Mark as read/unread" button in the top right corner.

This is my first mac laptop. Do I need internet security/virus protection?  If so, what is recommended?

Additional informaton about OS X security can be found in Thomas Reed's Mac Malware Guide.
In addition to what Bimmer 7 Series has suggested...
Keep Java (not JavaScript) disabled in all your browsers and if you have not installed it yet, don't do so unless you are told that you need it in order to run a critical application or visit a web-site that you must use.
You won't need your Firewall turned on as long as you are on a trusted network using a strong WPA2 password for WiFi, such as your home or workplace, but be sure to turn it on when you need to take your MBP to Starbucks or some other public hotspot.

I have lightroom 5.7. Now I have apple TV to connect my Mac to the TV scree. I wish to do a slide show on the TV. However, on the Mac, using ITunes to share photos with the TV, I cannot locate all photo files. What is the best way to save the slide show and put it where the Mac sharing can find it? So far, I made on one folder in Lightroom, put some photos there and I found them easily. Can this be done with a slide show? Please help quickly! Also worried that the photos I put on the new folder are hard to find afterwards, when the show is done. Where do they go when I delete from from the new folder?I am not alone

Not that I'm aware of. You just export JPEG copies to a folder that you can point iTunes to. For instance, I have created a folder in my Pictures folder called Apple TV. And within that folder I have other folders of pictures that I can choose from in iTunes to share with Apple TV. But there doesn't seem to be any way to share a Lightroom slideshow. If you have laid to create a video file that would probably work. Apple TV is a little clunky in my opinion. Some things are a little more difficult to do now than they were a while back. I probably haven't provided you with much help, but just keep experimenting and I think you will figure it out.

  • HT203216 How to mark all emails as read on the Iphone

How do you mark all emails as read on the IPhone? When I updated the IOS system it brough emails from my laptop as unread

No, there's no global 'mark as read' option.
You can submit feedback to Apple: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html.
For IMAP accounts, though, if the mail was read elsewhere, it should not be marked as new mail on the phone. This is the case for my IMAP and Exchange accounts - if I read the mail in Outlook or another mail client, the new mail mark is gone from the iPhone after the next mail sync. For POP, that won't be the case, since POP mail 'lives' on the client it's always going to be new to the iPhone even if already read in another client.

    Thank you for your response.
After searching around for any pointers to my problem, the above fixes I listed were the things that came closest to maybe addressing the issue, that I was able to locate. But since none worked, and as you pointed out, it is now clear they will only help towards viewing sent images rather than helping with inserting any images in the body of the email, which is the problem I suddenly started facing today.
Coming to your suggestion, on opening the Write window, the Insert choice on the menu bar is indeed available. And I had already tried using that, by clicking on the '''Insert ----> Image''' option listed. That opens
up the "Image Properties" box but using that has not resolved the matter either. It results in an image box getting inserted within the email but without the actual image itself.
Plus, normally I am able to use the '''Paste''' function in the Edit menu or through right-click, but today the (Cut/Copy/Paste) functions have gone inactive, thereby disallowing me to use that to place an image within the email.
