WLC 5500 with multiple APs
We have a WLC 5500 apliance, but i have a problem, the APs have a administrative IP in a diferent segment, only conected to WLC the AP have same segment of the management interface, the 5500 don´t have APmanager interface.
How configurate the WLC to conected and administrate all AP with different segment IP

Now, with what Steve above is trying to say is that with 5508 the management interface itself is the AP manager interface (by default). so, management and ap-manager interfaces are merged into one interface with same IP address. You can change this behavior but this is the default.
The article will tell you what mechanisms can be used to direct the APs to join the WLC even if they are on different subnet.

E2500 with multiple APs for guest access
I got 5 E2500 routers and the main one has setup to IP address 192.168.1.254 and the rest APs are programmed into the bridge mode with the IP address 192.168.1.245 through 248. The secured wireless network works fine when I roaming between these APs but the only AP that I can get internet access for guest wireless network is the main (192.168.1.254) router; for every other APs, I will get the guest log on screen (prompt for guest access password) and no internet access after I type in the correct access password. Does the E2500 support multiple APs guest or it requires a special way to configure it? Please help...
JimGuest Access allows you to provide Internet connection to your guests, however, they will not have access to your computers or other personal data. When you set up your Valet or Linksys Wireless-N router, the Cisco Connect software will create two wireless networks with the same Wireless Network Name (SSID) that differs from one another by a -guest suffix to one of the wireless network names.
So first of all remove all the networks from the preferred list of the computer and then try to connect. -
Connecting the nexus 5500 with multiple vsans

it's my first experience in the fibre channel world and i have a few doubts about the best way to connect the nexus 5500 to a EMC storage.
This is my scenario

now I don't know how can I connect the port fc1/3 to the vnx storage, I think I can't make a trunk like ethernet, can anyone help me?

WLC Controllers with Multiple DHCP Servers
Hello All,
I have a central office with (2) 4402 WLC's and about 25 Branch offices throughout the country. Currently all AP's are static IP'd with IP's from the local Branch office subnets. However the Clients all pull their IP's from a Central DHCP server here at corporate.
What I would like to do, is have clients get local branch office IP's from the AP located at that site. So rather than using a central DHCP server here at corporate using a single subnet for all wireles clients. Clients would be assigned local IP's by preferably local DHCP servers. I am having trouble finding an answer to this problem within the documentation. Any help or Ideas would be appreciated.were not using any radius type authentication. But I am still a bit hazy on how the hreap thing works, I did read the link and it is very helpful but I was kind of thrown into this one without much wireless background. Right now when I change an Ap to H-reap it somehow disables the a radio. I cant seem to get that back working which im not all that sure is even that big of a deal. The SSID is configured for local switching and central auth.

can one controller 2100 be used to manage APs in the headquarter and in branches?
We plan to use 6 APs-1131 in the HQ and 4 APs-1131 in the branch. Is this scenario supported by a AIR-WLC2112-K9 in the HQ?
What do I have to check regarding the WAN (bandwidth, delay) and the LANs (Switches, VLANs,...)?

i have WLC 5500 with 50 AP Base license with LAP 3500i APs,
so, do i need license for the WLC to work with the cleanair technology even it software ver 7 ?????
and also i have WCS with base license so do i need a license also for the WCS to work with clean air technology????

AhmedYou do not need extra license for either WLC or WCS to work with cleanair. But if you buy 10 AP pack 3500 APs, you will get WCS Plus upgrade license (for 100 APs) for free.

My broadcast and multicast are enabled.

the only thing that makes me crazy, is that I am migrating from all the network 3com, to CISCO, now all my switches, and routers are Cisco, my new wlan is CISCO, but for some reasons I have to use for a while the old wireless 3com infraestructure, and I dont have any issue like this in 3com wireless.
I really does not what to do.

I have 2 vlans (wired-side) in my corporation: the first one for Data (vlan 1, native) and the second one for voice (vlan 2). We've just get a wlc 4402 with 1010 Aps and I would like to know one thing:
Could I create 2 Ssids(one for voice and another for Data) and map each one to its wired Vlan?.
Does the 1010 Ap support 802.1q?

The controller has 2 ports that connect to the network as trunks. You can connect them as port 1 and 2, or put them in a lag group [aka etherchannel)
All the vlan trunking is done at the controller port to switch port. The AP sends the info down to the controller over the vlan specified for the aps
In your case, you should create another vlan for the APS.
The 4402 controller mgmt interface would sit in the same vlan as the APs. You would then create dynamic interfaces on the controller that have a vlan id and ip address for the desired network per your needs. You would then create a wlan on the controller and then bind it to the dynamic interface you just created.
I am oversimplfying this process quite a bit, but it should get you started. There is now a good bit of info on cisco.com for the wireless products -
Hi, I have a WLC 5500 with Software Version, 6.0.196.0, License Level Base, according to the "Release Notes for Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers and Lightweight Access Points for Release 6.0.196.0", says that the base license includes all features present in the wplus license. In the monitor page from the WLC the Licence Level say "base", and when I go to Managment License Level, and I set the License Level to "wplus" a messages say: Setting wplus as next level failed. Only with the version of Operating system is enough to have the functions of Wplus Licence, although the level of license showing base license, in the monitor page of the WLC.

All features included in a Wireless LAN Controller WPlus license are now included in the base license; this change is introduced in release 6.0.196.0. There are no changes to WCS BASE and PLUS licensing.
These WPlus license features are included in the base license:

•CAPWAP Data Encryption
The licensing change can affect features on your wireless LAN when you upgrade or downgrade software releases, so you should be aware of these guidelines:
•If you have a WPlus license and you upgrade from 6.0.18x to 6.0.196.0: Your license file contains both Basic and WPlus license features. You won't see any disruption in feature availability and operation.
•If you have a WPlus license and you downgrade from 6.0.196.0 to 6.0.188 or 6.0.182: The license file in 6.0.196.0 contains both Basic and WPlus license features, so you won't see any disruption in feature availability and operation.

Understanding of wireless client connection to multiple APs

I would like to know how do wireless clients connect to APs
For e.g. if in a single floor square office space - wireless network with multiple APs exists on the same SSID, how do clients decide which AP to connect to. For e.g. the client may get similar strength signals from two APs close to each other (such as Excellent). Which AP does client connect to.
Secondly, how does the load distribution take place. For e.g. if on one AP, 10 clients connect and on the other AP, 20 clients connect, how can equal load distribution be acheived, that is 15 on each AP without the tiring MAC filtering configurations.
Thirdly, is there something like number of user/connection restrictions on APs. I have gone through some AP manuals and did not find any such specifications like max. # of users = 20 etc. Currently we are using D-Link AP and have noticed that once the # of connections go upto 20, performance reduces heavily such as the latency on gateway pings go upto 1000-2000ms.
Fourthly, how can I identify from the client to which AP it is connected.

ANS - Its first come first serve... however.. sometimes if we have multiple SSIDs one with open auth and no encryption and other fuly protected.. then the client wil connect to the open rather the secured on.

ANS - AP can take upto 2048 MAC addresses.. its recommended not to have more than 24 clients per AP..
Fourthly, hw can I identify from the client to which AP it is connected.
ANS -If the clients are CCX compatible and aironet extentions enabled on the AP. then the command "show dot11 ass" will tell the clients connecting to which AP.. the AP name will get displsayed in the output..

5508 wlc with 1140 APs and NPS cant connect
Hi.. let me go off with the equipment setup that I have first..
I have 3 sites each site has 2x 5508 WLC and a few 1140 AP's per site.
I also have 3 NPS running on those 3 sites..
I have NPS and dhcp running on the same server...
I have a seperate CA root Authority server.
3 seperate DC ... one per site..

I am trying to keep everything simple and geting working first.. after doing this.. looks like the message from event view is success I got 2 events int he log.. 1. Network policy server granded access to a user. 2.Network Policy server granted full acess to a user because of the host met the defined health policy.

I have a Problem with Romming Between SSIDs withing the same WLC but with deferent VLAN .
HI All,
I have a Problem with Romming Between SSIDs withing the same WLC but with deferent VLAN . the WLC are providing the HQ and one of the Branches the Wireless services .
Am using all the available 9 SSIDs at the HQ , and am using only 4 of it at the Brnche.
The problem that i have are happening only at the Branch office as i cant room between the SSIDs within Diferent VLANs but i can do it with the one that pointing to the same VLAN. Once the client ( Laptop/Phone ) connected to one of the SSIDs. it imposiible to have him connected to the other ones with Different VLAN. meanwhile, It says its connected to the other SSID but its not getting IP from that pool.

Tx Power Level 4 ..........Well you need to understand the behavior of h-reap or what it's called now, FlexConnect. In this mode, the clients are still remembers on the WLC until the session timer/idle timer expires. So switching between SSID's in h-reap will not be the same when switching when the AP's are in local mode.
Take a look at the client when connected in FlexConnect in the WLC GUI monitor tab. Thus will show you what ssid and vlan the client is on. Now switch to a different ssid and compare this. It's probably the same because the client has not timed out. Now go back to the other ssid and look again. Now on the WLC, remove or delete the client and then switch to the other ssid at the same time. Or switch SSID's and then remove the client. The client will join the new ssid and in the monitor tab, you should see the info.
There is no need to have clients have multiple SSID's unless your testing. Devices should only have one ssid profile configured to eliminate any connectivity issues from the device wanting to switch SSID's.

WLC 5500 802.1x problems
So here is the problem that i have.
I have a WLC 5500 in site A ( let´s say city A too ) with its own set of wlans ( wlan 1 , wlan 2 ... ) that are used to differentiate different types of users ( teachers, students, etc ) using a RADIUS server and a AD for this client and using 802.1x. Everything on site A is working fine.
Now i´m trying so set an access point in site B ( in city B ) with its own set of wlans ( wlan X, wlan Y ... ) that is also used to differentiate clients, site B as its own DHCP, its own RADIUS and its own AD. I´ve managed to connect the access point to the WLC and set wlans for site B. My problem now is that when a user tries to connect to wlan X and he is suppose to be in wlan Y, he is not forwarded to wlan Y and is left in wlan X. I´ve also configured HREAP.
Does anyone as any idea why the clients aren't being assigned to the correct wlan??
I´ve checked in the Radius server and its sending the correct wlan to the user.
I now that the text is probably a little bit confusing, but i hope that someone can help me.

Note: If the APs are in H-REAP mode and locally switched at the remote site, the dynamic assignment of users to a specific VLAN based on the RADIUS server configuration is not supported.
Since you can't do dynamic vlan, why not have two policies, one for teachers and the other for students. You will need to have then in seperate groups in AD also. Then filter on the ssid and the AD group, so if students try to access the teachers ssid using their credentials, they get rejected and vice versa.
I don't know what you mean by connecting two site without h-reap. The only other way is switching the AP to local mode, which you better have some good bandwidth.

WLC 5508 with LAP-1142n - Several Errors
Hello all,
I had installed a WLC 5508 with 7 LAP 1142n and 2 converted AP 1131abg.
I am seeing some errors relating 2 issues.
1st- One particular AP 1142 is disassociating and reseting the radios.

I had some search, and the new discovery cause, might be that the AP didnt know what WLC do associate, in a multi-controller environment. This is not the case. I only have one WLC in the same management vlan.
2st-The Radius server is beeing related in the logs as been deactivated. I raise the server time-out on Radius configuration option, but it still continues to do it.

Is this meaning the WLC stop sending request to the Radius Server ? We dont have BackUp Radius.
As far as i know, its always the same mac-address client that is associated to that error, maybe a iphone.
I had so many clients in that SSID and they are all working good.

, and the client says that the medium response time is 0,02 sec, so im wondering why the controller is not getting response from Radius for a particular client?! My client also says, that didnt found any log related to that mac-address client ... what is weird...

Wireless –> All APs –> High Availability tab, and did it only to the AP that is taking this beahviour.
Is this mandatory for a 1 controller only ?
No mather what the manual say, after that the AP is rebooting 2 mins in 2 mins... with the same kind of messages.
The interface on the switch is getting a few input errors and the same numbers of crc... but are so few...
Next step ... i will change it to another one's place/pathing cable.
Regarding the Radius messages... any ideas ?
I'm already on 30 sec's of server timeout.
