Word won't save revised document.

Tried Command S and regular Save As.  When I print, the added text doesn't appear on  the preview or the printed copy.  Any help for this? I'm working on a MacBook Pro with newly installed Microsoft Word and a saved document from my old PC.

I think you'll get a faster solution by posting in Microsoft's commuity forums for Office" Mac here:
Office for Mac forums
It seems we Mac users have been slow to adopt Office 2011 (I'm keeping Office 2008 as long as I can) and, as a result, your question will not get as much traffic here as it would in the MS forums I linked.

  • After clean install Preview and MS Word won't open any documents.

Did a clean install of Mavericks. Restored my files from dropbox. (thousands of pdf and word files, doc. and docx)
Now, preview and MS Word won't open any documents.
Preview fails to open PDF so as MS Word fails to open any doc or docx file. Both crash on launch (not responding).
The only way to open the files is renaming them.
Try to delete the .plist (preview and Word), dont work.
    Anyone know how to fix?

    Hi Myelenium,
Thanks for the info about Event Viewer!
    It's showing this message:

So I searched the forums for any previous AGM.dll posts and tried resetting the preferences (through Alt+Ctrl+Shift) and deleting the entire Adobe Illustrator CS6 Settings folder. I opened Illustrator again and moved some panels around to save a new AIPrefs folder but I was still unable to open any documents.
Then I tried the next step listed here:

And removed the Printer that I usually use and it seems like that did the trick! Yay!

HP Officejet Pro  8600 won't save scanned document in searchable PDF or .rtf format
The scanner scans the document without a problem but when I select 'SAVE' and

    Hello TrailsEnd,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're receiving an error message "The HP scan application was unable to save the file to the specified location". I will do my best to assist you!
First, I would recommend downloading this tool called the Print and Scan Doctor. This tool diagnoses and helps resolve common printing, scanning, and connectivity problems, including: (This information is stated here.)
USB: Verifies that the USB connection from your computer to the HP product is working correctly.
Network: Verifies that the network connection between your computer and your network is working correctly.
Device Status Test : Checks for device errors such as out of paper, paper jams, carriage stalls, and paper feed issues, and then provides instructions for fixing the error.
Driver Check : Checks for missing or corrupt driver files.
Device Manager : Checks for problems in Device Manager that would prevent printing.
Device Online : Checks if the product has been paused or set to offline, and then sets the status back to online if necessary.
Print Queue : Checks for and clears pending print jobs in the print queue (a log of print jobs waiting to print).
Port Match : Checks the port settings for the HP product.
Device Conflicts : Checks for conflicts with other drivers, such as other printer brands.
Ink Issues : Checks the cartridges and ink levels for issues that affect print quality.
Print Settings : Checks and adjusts the print quality settings.
Test Print : Prints a test page for print quality evaluation, and provides options for cleaning and aligning the printhead if necessary.
Scan Tests : Checks the scan mechanism, drivers, and registry entries.
Let me know if this tool fixes a scanning problem on this post. If this doesn't resolve your issue, then I am going to recommend uninstalling the software. Please follow this HP document on Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Once this is complete, you can perform a clean boot on your computer. I will provide a Microsoft document here to help you. This helps eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program or an update or when you run a program. Now, you can install the full feature software from the HP website here.
Please post your results, as I will be looking forward to hearing from you. Have a great day!

  • What's happening when Word opens and saves a document?

    Hello,
I got very unspecific question, but I don't know where to start. I have an open xml document which gets generated by a third party tool. If I open the document using open xml sdk it looks VERY different from how it looks like when I opened and saved it before
    using Word 2013.
I'm trying to get an understanding on whats Word doing! From what I've seen it's doing some remodelling on the xml file, since it looks very different (other and way more descendants than before) and I would like to achieve the same thing using open xml.
Although this might be already to much information: The generated word documents contains html code with links to pictures. After Word has touched the file the picture is inside a drawing element, before it's not but in Word both versions look the same.
I'm thankful for any help you can give me.
    Cheers Andreas

    Hi Cheers Andreas,
    >> If I open the document using open xml SDK it looks VERY different from how it looks like when I opened and saved it before using Word 201
    >> What's happening when Word opens and saves a document?
This forum is discussing about Open XML developing. This is not exactly an OpenXML SDK questions. To be frank, I do not know exactly what Word opens and saves a documents either (this is the implementation details of the product).
If you are interested on it, the forum below might be more appropriate for you:

    >> From what I've seen it's doing some remodelling on the xml file, since it looks very different (other and way more descendants than before) and I would like to achieve the same thing using open xml.
What do you mean by “other and way more descendants”? Do you mean that you want to add new nodes in the xml document? In my option, different objects in word have different nodes. You could refer the link below for more information about Word processing.
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/EN-US/library/office/cc850833.aspx
If you have issues about OpenXML SDK, since it is a new issue which is different from your original issue, I suggest you post a new thread for the new issue in this forum. Then there would be more community members to discuss the question.

  • Microsoft Word won't save

Recently when I have tried to save documents in Word it has been telling me "Word is connecting to a printer." It tries to connect remotely, even if I have it hooked directly into my printer. Then Word freezes and I have to force quit, losing my document. I have resorted to copying the document into an email and sending it to myself just so I have a copy of what I wrote. I'm in law school and my notes are my life. I have no idea how to fix this problem, or why Word insists on connecting to a printer when all I want to do is save the document.

Actually, i've had this problem too for about 3 months now...
but it doesn't just apply to word, when this happens to word, i can't save ANYTHING (e.g. TextEdit, PS, etc)
I think this may be more Mac OS X related?

  • Acrobat 9.4.1 won't save scanned document - occasionally

After scanning a document into Acrobat 9.4.1, I can not save the document.  Pressing Save or Save As does not bring up a save diaglog box.  Some times this works just fine, other time it does not work at all.  This is on a Win 7 64 bit machine.

When I open PDF documents in Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.4.2, the "Save" option is grayed out.
    Did you change the document?

I can't save a document that has already been saved once.
"The document “xxx.pages” could not be saved."
I've tried copying the original but I get the message "The document “xxx. copy” could not be saved as “xxx. copy.pages”. Invalid argument"
It saves to iCloud as a 'tef' doc, but I don't want to save to iCloud (just a 'thing')
Does this mean that iCloud MUST have a copy of any document I produce in Pages? And if so, WHY?!
And what does this mean?  "The document “xxx copy” is on a volume that does not support permanent version storage."?

Are you saving to a network volume, that is not formatted MAcOS X Extended (Journaled)? See:
OS X Server: "The document 'file name' is on a volume that does not support permanent version storage" alert
Try "File > Move to" instead of save and move the document to your system drive. Then save the changes.
    Does that work?

I don't know what to do.  This is the only computer to which I have access for the next few days and I have to finish my research papers for class!  Please, I need help!

    Wouldn't call "maybe" unbridled enthusiasm!

You can certainly delete Pages 5, just by trashing the app from Applications, but I am not sure it would fix your problem.
Couldn't hurt to try so long as you can access the App Store with your Apple I.D. to download it again.

btw I was deadly serious about avoiding Pages 5 if at all possible.

  • TextEdit won't save draft documents

Just like the title says; I have a number of draft documents I have started in TextEdit and when I try to save the File menu highlights but it just times out with no save. I also can't  close the window without saving; it does the same thing. I tried deleting preference files and restarting but that didn't help.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including your login items.
    Test. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)

  • After Safari Update, MS Word won't save

Has anyone else gotten the latest Safari update download, and found that MS has lost its ability to save newly created docs? The Safari update was what I did immediately before Word went funny. A reinstall of Word (Office Mac 2004) didn't help. Using latest OS 10.3.9 on a G5 dual 1.8GHz Power PC.

It seems now that the integrity of your OS is fine and that the problem is isolated to Office.
Is it possible that you may have installed an additional third-party component/plug-in to add functionality to Office? If so it might be an idea to locate and trash that. You might also want to trash the preferences at user/[insert user name]/library/preferences. Trashing preferences is often the first thing to do when an application starts crashing.
If the problem still persists then uninstalling and reinstalling might help. Hopefully the install disk has an uninstall option (I'm on the earlier version X so can't check). If you do this, then it would be a good idea to run disk repair/repair permissions first before reinstalling, and run repair permissions again after the install (this is good practice for any OS upgrade and major software installs).
I don't know about the MS crash reporter (none such thing is version X), but it always seems to me that these are to assist software developers to identify problems for future patches/upgrades and not to solve your particular problem(!). In the case of Apple, all one gets is a little "thanks for sending to Apple" balloon. You might want to try the support pages at: http://www.microsoft.com/mac/support.aspx
It's quite usual for applications to show up at HD and user level, so there's nothing wrong there.
As to the Safari crash, do you have any components such as Pith Helmet, Acid Search, Sogudi? These are usually located in SIMBL plug-ins folders and can sometimes cause crashes (I'm troubleshooting just such an issue with Pith Helmet right now).
I do hope you get up and running. The weather having improved here in London, I'm off to watch some cricket!

  • MS Word not able to save open documents/quitting unexpectedly

I've had the following problem more than a few times since I've had my iBook (just over a year): Sometimes when I have a Word document open that I'm working on I'll get one of two messages when I try to save the document. One says something to the effect that Word is unable to save the document because the "disk is full," or a message appears that says that Word can't save the document because too many "applications" or "documents" are open (I can't remember which one is specified). Then another box pops up that says something about "autorecovery" being postponed or unable to work. Finally - the icing on the cake - Word shuts down and a message about Word "quitting unexpectedly" comes up.
When this sequence occurs, anything that I've written since the last time I saved the document is gone. Lovely. Who cares that I just wrote the clearest articulation of my thoughts for the day, right? (I'm currently working on my dissertation, so this is VERY FRUSTRATING, to say the least.)
I have tons of space left on the hard drive, so I know that no "disk is full." Also, I find it hard to believe that having, say, two Word documents open along with DSS (an audio program for transcribing) is too much for the computer to handle at once. (I mean, if it were a PC, sure, I might be able to believe that this sort of thing could overload it and cause a hitch, but pleeease, with a Mac? Isn't that the whole reason I was sold on these fancy new-fangled machines?) Plus, this problem has also occurred when I have only one document open.
Just to add a little more info. to the puzzle, I already reinstalled MS Office again, thinking that perhaps it just wasn't properly installed the first time. No change. I've also asked a tech through Apple Care about it, and he guided me through checking my hard drive for any damage, etc. We found nothing out of the ordinary. Finally, a friend who has the exact same copy of MS Office on his desktop Mac has never had any problem with Word.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

as first step try creating new user in Accounts system preference, log in as new user and try running Office.
if it works that way, issue is with some preferences or cache files in the original user account.
if it does not work under new user, issue is system-wide with Office specific files or the OS.

  • I can't save my documents in a specific folder.

Pages says that my file does not exist and I'm not trying to open it, I'm trying to save it. I run Pages 5.5.2 in OS X 10.10.2. Pleas help, I've made a mess with my documents due to that problem.
Pages won't save my documents where I want, I need to save them in the Documents folder and the move them into the new folder I created.

The iOS versions of the iWork apps uses the same format as iWork '09 so it is not surprising that the files open there. This sure sounds like an older version of Pages is tryiing to open the files. I rarely create documents on my iOS devices, but I just did a test. I created a very simple Pages document on my iPad then downloaded it from iCloud.com on my Mac mini running Snow Leopard & Pages 4.0.4. It opened without problems.
Pages 4.2 is not the latest version for Mountain Lion, 4.3 is. Although I doubt that update would make a difference in your problem, it's definitely worth updating. You can download the standalone updater from this page if Software Update doesn't find it. If updating doesn't work, I suggest doing a Spotlight search for "Pages.app" (without the quotes).

  • Multi-Section Word Document Won't Save as Single pdf

I'm using MS Word 2004 and have a document split into 3 sections (so to permit landscape printing of the middle section containg a bunch of big tables, portrait on the two others containg text mostly, before and after).
When I try to create a pdf within the Word Print Dialog, 3 separate pdfs are created -- one for each section. Is there a way to get it to create just 1 pdf?
I don't do this sort of thing very often, so hope there is some easy, inexpensive way. I thought about copying the tables and then pasting as a picture, rotating it, but the margins for the middle center section are also different (so to fit the tables).
Any help or ideas are most appreciated.

Microsoft Office 2004 (Word) unable to save files
I have been running Office 2004 on my Intel iMac with Snow Leopard for some time and all of a sudden I cannot save a document. Word just stopped responding and I have to force quit. I can open Word and create a new document but I cannot save it. I reinstalled Word but that didn’t help. Then went to the Internet and found at least one other Mac user having the same problem which it suggests is caused by a recent Mac Security Update:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macoffice2004-macword/word-2004-wil l-not-open-or-save-documents/b04eb870-9b0d-4f3b-bb47-b122301e36f6
So I check for a new Mac Security Update and sure enough there was one. I downloaded it and now Word seems to be working, as it should. I can both open and save files. The only problem remaining is that when I open Word I get the following error message “An unexpected error occurred while trying to load the Microsoft Framework library”. I contacted Apple but they were unable to help.
How can I get rid of this error message?

Look, I realize you might have to get your machine working, so this is how you revert back.
    Restore proceedure to pre-Security Update 2012-001 v 1.0 & v 1.1
#1 Backup your personal data off the machine.
Backup files off the computer (not to TimeMachine). If you don't have a external drive, get one and connect to the USB/Firewire port and simply drag and drop copy your User folder to the external drive, it will copy all your files. It's best to have two backups of your data off the machine when trying to restore.
Disconnect all drives now to prevent any mistakes from occuring.
    #2 Reinstall OS X 10.6 from disk
Get out your 10.6 install disk and make sure it's clean and polished (very soft cloth and a bit of rubbing alcohol, no scratches) If your disk is borked, you'll have to order a new one from Apple with your serial number.
Hold c boot off the 10.6 disk (wired keyboard, internal optical drive), use Disk Utility First Aid to >Repair Disk  of your internal drive  (do not format or erase!!), Quit DU and simply re-install 10.6.
Note: Simply reinstalling 10.6 version from disk (without erasing the drive) only replaces 10.6.8 with 10.6.x and bundled Apple programs, won't touch your files (backup anyway)  or most programs, unless they installed a kext file into OS X itself. (only a few on average do this)
    #3 Update to 10.6.8 without Security Update 2012-001 v1.0 or v1.1
Reboot and log in, update to 10.6.8 via Software Update, but EXCLUDE THE Security Update 2012-001 by checkinig the details and unchecking the blue check box.
#4 Reinstall any non-working third party programs
When you reboot, make sure to reinstall any programs that require kext files installed into OS X, you'll know, they won't work when you launch them or hang for some reason as they are missing the part they installed into OS X.
If for some freakish reason you get gray screen at any time when booting (possible it might occur when you reinstall older programs), hold the shift key down while booting (Safe Mode, disables kext files) and update your installed third party software so it's compatible with 10.6.8.

    That's it really.
