Workflow task in "In Process"

Hi all,
I have a workflow task that stayed in the "In Process" state.  The task's method calls a function.  I don't know if the function had an error or what actually happened.  The function makes a call to a third party software(PRISM).  I have the task set to synchronous to wait for a return code. Does anyone know of a way to trouble shoot this.

Yes, if you can reproduce it by calling the same method with the same inputs from transaction SWO1 (testing the BOR object type - or SE24 if it is a class). Then the debugging should reveal most of the information you need.
I assume you are making an RFC call. In your function call you should, if it has not been done already, set up the special exceptions for RFC calls which will enable you to receive a returned error message in case of e.g. communications failure.

  • Date transfer between 11g BPMN Process and Human Workflow task

    I'm creating a small BPMN process in SOA Suite 11g. Pretty simple: Holiday Request where one enters name, start date, end date and leave type (e.g. annual). The odd thing is, any dates I enter into the process end up losing one day when viewed in the BPM Worklist.
    So, to be clear:
    * The BPMN process receives a message like this (note the +10:00 -- I'm running this in Australia):
    <RequestData>
    <name>JohnJames</name>
    <startDate>2010-06-21+10:00</startDate>
    <endDate>2010-06-21+10:00</endDate>
    <leaveType>annual</leaveType>
    </RequestData>
    * It does some minor processing, then passes this onto a Human Workflow task (exactly the same):
    <RequestData>
    <name>JohnJames</name>
    <startDate>2010-06-21+10:00</startDate>
    <endDate>2010-06-21+10:00</endDate>
    <leaveType>annual</leaveType>
    </RequestData>
    * When I open the task in the BPM Worklist app I see this:
    name : JohnJames
    startDate : 20/06/2010
    endDate : 20/06/2010
    leaveType : annual
    So, why? My processing code doesn't alter the dates in any way at all before passing them to Human Workflow. I figure this has something to do with locales used by HW but I can't figure out where or what to change. Any clues? Comments? Ideas?

    OK, I have a solution that works for me: YMMV. There's two parts to it:
    1) To have the dates interpreted correctly, I changed the fields on the generated forms for the Human Tasks. The Start Date and End Date fields were created as Input Text fields with the "Converter" property set to <default>. I changed the fields to Input Date fields instead, and the dates were interpreted correctly (i.e. May 21 showed up as May 21 rather than May 20) But they still showed up in US date format: 5/21/2010.
    2) To have them formatted for my locale, I added a "formatting-locale" entry to the "trinidad-config.xml" file: <formatting-locale>en-AU</formatting-locale>. The dates then showed up as 21/5/2010.
    This solution doesn't give you dates automatically formatted for your own locale, or different locales based on browser, but it does give me what I want for now. Thought some folks might be interested.

  • Process object missing in workflow task

    Hi all,
    I have this odd problem that occurs (seemingly) at random.
    I have a workflow for Material Master creation, it has various forks in the flow, sometimes the process object i.e. the material master object is missing in the workflow task under the available objects tab. It only seems to happen in one of the branches of the fork, also it only seems to be one user who gets this problem, so it makes me think it's something he's doing.
    How is it possible that an object which was previously available in the task is no longer available?
    any help greatly appreciated.
    Neil

    Hi,
    thanks for the reply, by "missing" I mean it is no longer instantiated in the workflow task. I have determined this by looking in the workflow log and checking the task container.
    The binding for the task is correct, I am using the same task in all branches of the fork and in the other branches the material object is instantiated.
    I have learnt a bit more about the scenario in the last few minutes... it seems that when the task was created initially the object was instantiated, but the user has backed out of the transaction and not completed the work item leaving it in his inbox with a status of "executed" it is only then that the process object is missing. This doesn't seem to happen to any other user so it's something he is doing that is causing the problem.

  • Workflow Tasks NOT expiring!

    Hi guys,
    I've bumped lately with an issue building a workflow on SP2010, as you mostly already have figured out from the title, workflow tasks are NOT expiring.
    I've tried to take this on my own, but no more as I have to move on. Here's the details;
    -a custom workflow (attached to a custom list) that has start custom task as its first action.
    -due date for custom task is set in "select task process participants", Due Date for Task Process. and is set to run parallel (I have one participant for the task).
    -the custom task have only the "behavior of a single task" configured, all task workflow steps are there.
    When a Task is Pending fires well, and it ends with Pause for 2 minutes > then send email. then task due date reaches but
    When a Task Expires never kicks! tasks simply stays at status "Not Started"
    when I check the workflow history, it shows the last log "pausing completed", but I suspect the main issue is with the task processor, task isn't expiring and im not sure where to look.
    timer job service is working, I've checked timer jobs (workflow auto cleanup, workflow failover and bulk workflow task processing) and they're all running in timely fashion now.
    any thoughts?
    thanks

  • Error in transporting WF workflow task

    Hello,
    I face an error when moving WF workflow task from Dev to QA.
    System is 4.0B.

    <b>The errors affect the following R/3 components:</b>
       <b>BC-BMT-OM (Organizational Management)</b>
    In QA, the new version of the WF - created and activated in Dev - does not appear at all. I checked OSS Note 138411 - Collective note: PD Transports and OSS Note 88180 - Error during import postprocessing (Org.unit) but they didn`t help.
    In Dev, the new version of the WF was saved and activated and manually inserted in a customizing request from tr. PFTC. The transport included object <b>R3TR TDAT PDWS</b> with entries for HRP, HRT and SWD_* tables, with records for the WF task.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks and regards,
    Krisztian

    Hi Ravi,
    WS and TS tasks are recorded in changes, only the WFs and Ts are not. This is because some Personal Development objects are not to be transported, hence automatic transport connection for these is deactivated in IMG. Since WFs and Ts are considered as PD objects, the automatic transport is deactivated for them as well. For WFs and Ts manual transport is available in PFTC.
    This is unfortunate but this is how it`s set.
    On the other hand, version management is not something that works too well for workflows anyway (at least in 4.0B). You can`t see the differences in two separate versions like you would in a program. And in WFs and Ts you are able to generate versions just like for WSs and TSs for version management. So from my point of view manually transporting WFs and Ts are not the issue. But I may be wrong...
    Nevertheless I activated automatic transport connection and did a change in Dev like that. The transport created was moved to Acc, but still same problem...
    So I`m running out of clues.. maybe I just overlooked something...
    Thanks
    Krisz

  • IDOC related to workflow task

    Is there any table or report which gives IDOC nos related to workflow task?

    Sreedevi, it depends what you want (where you start from), so please be more specific in your question next time (or if this doesn't answer your question).
    If you have a work item number and want to know the IDoc number you can use function module SAP_WAPI_OBJECTS_IN_WORKITEM to get a list of all object references. Then you have to process it from there. You can make a flexible solution which is compatible with future added IDoc types by checking the object type of each object returned and traversing the inheritance hierarchy until you get to object type IDOC. Then you know it is an IDoc, and you can find the IDoc number as the key of the object. Or you can hardcode supported object types using a CASE or IF statement. The flexible solution would be much more fun to program in my opinion.
    If you have an IDoc number and want to find work items you have to go the other way. That means starting with object type IDOC, finding all the inherited object types and for each of these using function module SAP_WAPI_WORKITEMS_TO_OBJECT. Again, another possibility is to hardcode the list of object types you want to check.
    The table Rose told you about, HRS1201, contains no IDoc numbers, but it contains all the tasks with the methods they use. So actually you can use that to find all the object types you need to check (whether they are inherited from IDOC), since all work items will refer to a task definition.

  • WORKFLOW : Task marked as a background to send a mail to ext id not working

    Dear friends,
    I have configured a workflow by creating a subobject of BUS2012 and in my workflow i have created one activity which will send a information mail to approvers of Purchase order on a external mail id.
    I have set the task to be processed in background mode it means this will be processed by WF-Batch user, when i see it in workflow log all the activities are getting processed successfully but im unable to see any mails flowing in SOST tcode.
    When i perform this activity in Foreground mode and assign a external agent to a workflow task everything is working pretty fine and i can see the mail outflow in SOST tcode too but the same is not working in background processing mode.
    please let me know is there any setting which needs to be checked out?
    Awaiting for your positive reply on this!
    Regards,
    Sunny V

    Hii,
    Did you maintain Agent assignment in Background ?.It is a standard Task
    If it is not activated then mail will not be send to External Mail Id.
    First you check whether Agent assignment is activated or not.
    Regards,
    Ashwath.

  • Workflow Task not able to be completed due to "System Account" in Requested By field not resolving.

    I have a workflow firing on create and update in a list. The list is a calendar that is email enabled. The tasks are assigned with the requested by set to be the System Account, which shows underlined in red when trying to complete the workflow task. This
    is a sharepoint designer 2010 workflow using the assing approval task action. I was hoping to see a variable used when assigning the task to allow changing that from the system account to the created by on the original list, which I am able to assign for the
    approval workflow starting notification since that also was trying to go to the system account.
    Here is the task as it looks which will not allow completion even by site collection administrator.
    If the workflow starts with direct entry in the list, all works fine. This is related to the system account creating the initial item, but was hoping to override that during the task process.
    Anyone else run into this and have solution?

    Hi Alan,
    I can’t reproduce your issue, but you can change the requested by on the task form to “created by” column. Go to SharePoint
    designer, open the workflow, under forms section, click task type form workname.xsn to open it in InfoPath form, then you can change the requested by to created by.

  • 10.1.2. to 10.1.3 Human workflow task migration issue

    Hi all,
    I am currently looking at the possibility to migrate our 10.1.2 bpel processes, containing human workflow task, to 10.1.3.1.0 Everything seems to migrate smoothly except the human workflow functionality.
    The initateTask invoke action returns the following error in the 10.1.3.1 console when I ran an 10.1.2. bpel process containing a human workflow task:
    [2006/12/04 03:01:00]
    "{http://schemas.oracle.com/bpel/extension}remoteFault" has been thrown.

    Make sure wsdl is valid. You may need to start the OraBPEL server, or make sure the related bpel process is deployed correctly.
    </summary>
    </part>
    </remoteFault>
    I know that in 10.1.3 the human workflow mechanism is heavily changed and now is invoked by using other services (TaskService) than the services used (TaskActionHandler process)in 10.1.2. In 10.1.2 the TaskActionHandler was a separate build-in bpel process used for interaction between a bpel process and the human workflow. This process is not present in the 10.1.3.1 installation, so that is causing my error. Moreover, in 10.1.3 the interaction between a bpel process is and the human workflow is not done by invoking a separate bpel process (TaskActionHandler) but by invoking a java wsif service TaskService..(Correct me when I'm wrong or not complete)
    My question now is how can I migrate my 10.1.2 human workflow task to 10.1.3.1 without manually rewrite the task scopes to 10.1.3...According to the fragment below copied from the JDeveloper 10.1.3.1 help files it should be possible. Maybe, there's is a way to deploy the needed processes manually?
    Oracle BPEL Process Manager Workflow Services 10.1.2 and 10.1.3.1.0 Compatibility
    For release 10.1.3.1.0, the workflow wizard has been replaced by a Human Task editor. This editor enables you to specify task settings such as task outcome, payload structure, task participants, assignment and routing policy, expiration and escalation policy, notification settings, and so on. You cannot use the Human Task editor to edit 10.1.2-based workflows. To use any new 10.1.3.1.0 functionality, the task scope of the workflow must be manually migrated to use the new workflow metadata. Note also that this is the last release in which you can deploy workflows designed with 10.1.2.
    Kind regards,
    Tom Hofte

    Hi Clemens,
    Thanks for your quick response. The Taskmanager and the Taskactionhandler are indeed not deployed so I will do that automatically.
    Still one question/remark left:
    You noticed that you still have to complete the tasks using the old worklist app. . So if i'm correct, you have to use the deprecated 10.1.2 worklist api or build-in worklist app. The 10.1.2 worklist app is not deployed in my 10.1.3 installation. However, 10.1.3 only contains the new worklist app. Is there also a way to deploy it manually?
    Writing this down it al looks a bit clumsy to me. Is it not a better option to invest some time in migrating all tasks scopes manually to 10.1.3, because as far as I can see the human tasks are causing the main issues concerning migration? After this you have a 10.1.3 compliant system. I wonder what your opinion is on this issue.
    Kind regards,
    Tom

  • Workflow Task

    Can anyone give me some idea regarding Workflow task and what is the use of this.
    Thanks

    As long as you talk about workflow it is considered to be a custom workflow (task definition).
    It consists of set of WFProcesses, Actviitiee, Actions Manual actions combinied together helps to implent a custom workflow process.
    For ex: In a typical organization the email (lotus notes) access requests should be preprocessed. For such case user/user mgr will make a request which will be processed by the respective hireharcy and completed. Workflow will facilitate to complete this process steps.

  • Oracle human workflow task services have no support for SAML2.0 in 11.1.1.5

    When I have checked the SAML binding version of Oracle human workflow task service WSDL (TaskQueryService2?ORAWSDL), it has a SAML 1.0 policy attached to it in the soap header?
    Does SOA Suite 11.1.1.5.0 workflow tasking services support SAML2.0 policy ?
    I have tried applying SAML2.0 policy from OSB on the Business service calling TaskQuerySerivice2, it does not accept it. As the SAML version of wsdl is embedded with SAML1.0 policy, business service
    did not run?
    As this Tasking services come as part of standard SOA Suite install, is there any work around to update the WSDL to change the policy to SAML 2.0?
    Thanks

    Hi Experts,
    If incase anyone has encountered this issue. Please can you advice for the same.
    I need to get this done on urgent basis.
    I am able to deploy the process successfully from JDEV. Its throwing issue only when I manually deploy the WAR file in WL Console.
    Its getting deployed successfully, but unable to view task form from BPM Worklist.

    Hi,
    I have abap experience, but no workflow. We have a web dynpro screen which when completed has to kick off a workflow and mail workitem to relevant person.
    I assume as this is a custom process, in mining, that there won't be a standard workflow task to use. Please provide me with the steps needed to create a workflow.
