Working with ORDIMAGE - upload image

I'm working with Oracle interMedia. I use the type ORDIMAGE for saving my pictures in the database.
With JDeveloper I've created a form for uploading the pictures. No problem with that. But is it possible to automatically generate a thumbnail version of the picture and save this one in a second field of the type ORDIMAGE ?
I was thinking of a trigger maybe that, when inserting or updating an image, automatically generates a thumbnail. Has someone experience with this ?
Greetz!

I've got an idea !!!
I remember browsing through the Intermedia documentation that there are methods on the intermedia objects to do exactly that you are trying to do.
I found a code snippet I guess I tried to use, I think it worked.
DECLARE
Image_1 ORDSYS.ORDImage;
BEGIN
SELECT photo INTO Image_1
FROM Photos WHERE photo_id = 1
FOR UPDATE;
-- Convert and replace the image to a thumbnail image
Image_1.process('maxScale=32 32');
UPDATE Photos SET photo = Image_1 WHERE photo_id = 1;
COMMIT;
END;
Maybe this can be a starting point for you, the code actually converts and replaces an image with an thumbnail, it needs to be edited to make it works as a trigger. Try searching the oracle documentation for the "OrdImage.process" procedure it can do a lot with images.

  • Cant work with 32 bit image files?

Hi there, I am unable to work with 32 bit image files on our cs6 ? I am fallowing a tutorial and a person creates a new file with 32 bit channel selected from dropdown menu, and starts painting on it he is using CS5. When I create a 32 bit file and select the brush tool, it comes on with circle and cross line and error comes up saying that the brush tool is not supported with 32 bit image files, in fact, I cant use any tools on the 32 bit images, I can't even create a new layer on the file. There is one thing I can do, which is a great feature, I can save it! But it's not much of a use now is it? If the image is plane white sheet. Is this a special feature that you need to purchase seperetly? Could you please advise. Regards

    Hello again,
so resetting the preference file makes no difference to the problem.
I checked 6 of our macs. 3 of the macs can create the 32 bit images and allow paint and other tools with no problem. Jet the other 3 macs have the same problem as I have. I checked my 2008 macbook which has CS5, and it can also edit 32 bit files. Checked my PC yesterdey which has CS6 installed, can't work with 32 bit image files.
I find this very odd, some work and some don't. Any suggestions would be great. Please also find a screenshot of the mac with the issue.
    Kind regards,

  • I have lightroom 4 and it doesn't work with d4s raw images? what can I do?

i have lightroom 4 and it doesn't work with d4s raw images? what can I do?

That model begin to be supported only in the very latest version of Lightroom, version 5.4. You will either need to upgrade Lightroom, or else use the latest version of the free Adobe DNG converter (version 8.4) to create digital negative copies of your raw images. Then you can import those DNG files into the Lightroom that you have now. The choice is yours.

  • Working with Scanned Tranparency Images in CS5 extended. Size?

I'm relatively new to photoshop and I have been searching for a simple answer to this question.
I'm working with images scanned from 35mm transparency film and black and white negatives. The average size when opened in photoshop is .88inches width x 1.297inches height at 2000 pixels/inch. I'll be putting these images on the web as well as printing some.
    My question is:
Can I work with them as-is in photoshop and change the size later (for web, printing etc) or is there some general size I should change them too prior to working on them in photoshop CS5 extended?
Thanks in advance for any constructive input.....

Thanks for the helpful input... I've been working on the images in their original size as they came from the scanning service (I don't scan them myself) I've been saving the work I've done in photoshop (layers etc) in a PSD file and a copy of that file (flattened when all work is done) as a JPeg to use as the web copy. (I assume those JPEG files will need resized to use on the web) Is that the best workflow for my situation?
I also just began working in Lightroom 4 ... I've been saving as PSD files.. should I save in Tiff?  Thanks again for the input and the scantips link.

  • CS3 crashing when working with vertical orientation images

My CS3 has been crashing every single time I work with a portrait style image... I don't have any other issues except this one.
I can open the raw file and edit it, but when I create a new canvas and move the file over into the new canvas it freezes and crashes... I can do the exact same thing with a landscape style image and it never even flinches. My computer easily meets the requirements to run CS3, so I don't know what the issue is since it only occurs with vertical images.

As per usual, reset prefs as a starting point.

  • Aperture 3 hanging when working with 120,000 image library

I love Aperture. Have used Aperture since v1, now on 3, Snow Leopard 10.6.6. MacPro 3.0 with 20GB RAM and four 7200 3TB HDrives. Shoot a Nikon D3 and others.
I have a big referenced library running internally on Drive 2, images are internally on drive 4. About 120,000 in total, mostly RAW (NEF).
For some time I have had hangs, spinning ball. Some will clear, but most will not, requiring force quit.
I have repaired permissions, on hard drives as well as in Aperture.
Hangs happen when I click on a Folder, or sometimes when selecting image.
I moved everything to a Referenced system to correct this problem, but seemed to not solve things.
I do also use Aperture to catalog Photoshop files, so dont know whether this creates an increased RAM or CPU issue.
Have sent crash reports to Apple, but not heard back yet.
I shoot professionally, sometimes 2,000 per day, so need this to become more reliable.
    Any suggestions.
    Many thanks!

Thanks so much for your time.
You're welcome. I appreciate your mentioning it.
I have found leaving the Activity Monitor on, where I watch the RAM / MEM usage, is a clue as to whether its still thinking.
I do the same. In addition to AM, I use +iStat Menus 3+, a nifty system-reporting menulet. Recommended (just a satisfied user).
I also need to tell you I do allow my assistant, using a 27"iMac, to access my MASTER LIBRARY from her computer. (Different Aperture 3 version, and mine is shut down).
Supposedly this is ok (acording to Apple) but I am v suspicious. Sometimes it takes forever to load, and I have seen "strange" things like keywords go missing.
Until you have everything working well ... can you refrain from opening your Library using different program installations? I think you are right to be suspicious. (And trouble-shooting strategy would favor limiting problems and then bringing things back as a way of isolating the cause.)
Please check out my response to the others - I stated library size/capacities.
I don't think Library size is the problem.
I wish I could limit my Projects to 500 Masters, but most of the shoots I do are sports, where I will shoot 1,000 to 3,000 images in a day or two.
However, it can be done if this is the issue.
It could be voodoo, but it has become part of the more-or-less generally accepted best practices. You do know that in addition to selecting multiple Projects in order to see all of their images in the Viewer, you can also put Projects in a Folder and just select the Folder. Selecting a Folder in the Library Inspector will show the contents of all Projects and Albums "held" by that Folder. You might -- as an example -- make a Folder for a game, and then put each quarters' shots in its own Project.
I run dual monitors. HOWEVER, I am suspicious of my NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT card. 512 VRAM, 1920x1200 dual outputs. Not sure if this is my problem.
However, I can run Photoshop 5, DW5, InDesign, etc, along with the normal appls, with no problem. Sometimes I have 15-20 PSD files open, and I never use all my RAM.
I run huge Library on a machine w. 4 GB RAM. I don't think your RAM is the source of your problems.
I can't with any expertise address the issue of the video card. My hunch is that this is one of the rough edges of heavy Aperture use, but it's just a hunch.
Rejected/Trash. I find it takes forever to empty Aperture Trash. Have you found that> Did you know you have to empty twice, from Ap AND from OS10.6?
IME, it gets better if you do it often (all the way to system Trash). I have in past had to wait hours for the Aperture Trash to empty. Haven't seen that is a while, though.
Im going to try and move the MAIN LIBRARY to another, newer, drive. See if this works.
One of the biggest advantages will be the defragmentation of the hundreds of thousands of Library files.
I have wondered whether I should invest in a Solid State Internal drive.
    Thoughts on that?
Go for it. I will buy one the day I can afford one. I am sure it is the very best performance investment you can make for Aperture.
Cheers. Post when you've found something out.

  • Your tip in Printing in Indesign--working with high quality images

    Hi everyone,
I am very curious about what the other professionals' idea about printing and using Indesign to print.
I am working on a project that with high resolutions of model and product images together.
Since I had to move elements on the layout. Model and product images are in different layers in Indesign.
I used Indesign to combine those images together to create ads for magazine.
However, I was told  that it would be "SAFER" to combine those images together FRIST in photoshop.
he thinks the process should be that:
---Having a flated image of model and products in photoshop first
----then bring that one image in Indesign.
----This way it would insure the color will be right.
    What do you guys think?
The places I worked in the past, has not done stuff like that.
I feel like ...colors aren't something we could control when magazine uses their own printing vendor.
What is your process to ensure the color is right when priting a combination of different high resolution tiff files?
Thank you very much for your time and knowleage.
    Lori

Assuming you have some sort of color management in place, I would continue to do it the way you are.
But let's say you did want to follow this fellow's advice. Here's everything I can think of.
Putting the models and products together on one Photoshop "page" can wind up making the PSD file very big as there may be spaces between the models and products.
Never, ever flatten that Photoshop file. There's no need and makes a very complicated workflow if you have to make any changes.
You're right about the magazine printing process taking over color.
What are you sending the magazine? A PDF? There's totally no need to flatten in Photoshop then.
The art is flattened in it's own way.
I'm also assuming that your prducts and models are close to each other

  • Im working with 13 psd images in Motion right now and its incredibly slow!

every little thing Im doing is beach balling and its incredibly frustrating. What can I do in my settings to optimize Motion's performance? Im just creating a simple camera move through my images but its almost impossible with the speed its currently working in.
    Im working on a 2 x 3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with 5GB of Memory 667 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM Mac and I have Motion 3.0.2
any suggestions would be appreciated. Many thanks!

Since a lot (if not all) of the work is done solely on your Graphics Card, size of ANY picture does matter! Make them as small as possible. This also means that adding Memory to your computer does not help solve this problem...
There is a very good explanation here:

  • Works with 80,000 images!

We just tested '06 by importing 81,686 images (many of them 5-7 MB) into a single iPhoto '06.
    - Large batches were imported with no errors.
    - Everything seems to work, and performance is quite reasonable.
    - There doesn't seem to be any significant difference in performance compared to an identical system with a library of only 5000 images.

re: I did have some problems with the date of the catalogs not matching the date of the files in them.
Hmmm. I read your post in another thread about your iView/iPhoto workflow. I experimented on a test system with a small library of "aliased-not-imported" files, using Photoshop to modify images but not names. Based on errors I saw in my test I wonder, does your workflow introduce the date errors?
Didn't iPhoto 5 get its date information (for the calendar display and such) from the dates of the folders in its directory hierarchy? If so, won't it get confused it you change files (and change the create/mod dates) inside its folders? More so if (with the don't import option) there are only aliases in the iPhoto library and you are making changes to the real files? See what I'm getting at?
I'd like to understand this better, but I've got no shortage of disk space (huge drives are so wonderfully cheap these days!) and I'm satisfied for now with the advantages of copying everything into iPhoto, so I probably won't do more tests--counting on you to explain it to us, Toad!
    Thanks,
    dlo

  • Password no longer works with encrypted disk image.

I have an encrypted disk image on my macbook pro. I enter the password every time I open the disk image. Last week it stopped accepting the password. I checked in keychain where I'd saved the PW when first creating the disk image and verified I was entering what was saved there. It matched what I've been entering but still no luck. I attenpted to pull an old version of the disk image from time machine and that still won't open with what I know is the password I've always used.
    Any tips?

try doing SMC reset the following article tells how to do that:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
after doing this reset try again to enter the password for the disk image, if it still doesn't work there is no way to bypass the passcode on the disk. the following article talk about filevault:

  • Problem with attaching/uploading images after editing in Aperture

After I edit images in Aperture, I frequently have trouble uploading them to Flickr or attaching them to an email message because the attachment/uploading tool cannot find the image. When I go to Aperture to view images, the edited image is there; however, it does not appear among the images in the folder where it is stored when I attempt to attach it to an email message or upload it to Flickr. I've tried searching for it by image number and that doesn't help. This never happens to unedited images, only to the ones that have been edited. The issue tends to go away after some time - for example, when I try to repeat the action the following day, the image is "back" where it should be. However, simply restarting Aperture, Flickr, or my browser doesn't help. Obviously, this is extremely frustrating, as I edit virtually all my photos before sharing them. Has anyone experienced this issue and have you been able to figure out a solution? Thank you! Oh, one last note: I've never experienced this issue when editing images with other software, such as Photoshop or Picasa - it only comes up with Aperture.

    Welcome to the user-to-user forum.
Aperture creates the adjusted images as needed, on-the-fly, from the adjustment instructions saved in the Version file. Aperture also keeps Previews of these images, both for its own use, and to share with other applications when a lower-resolution JPG is sufficient. That is why you cannot find your images using Finder or other "File→Open" attempts (which is what you seem to have been trying).
(Previews are worth learning about. Consult the User Manual (a/k/a the Help file).)
In order to create a file, you must export your adjusted Version using Aperture.
Any application which has access to the OS X Media Browser (Mail does) can access these Previews.
There is a free utility which gives similar access to all applications: iMedia Browser. It looks good, but I haven't used it enough to comment.
You should also be able to access images of your adjusted Versions via the "Media" category which shows at the bottom of the sidebar of applicable OS X "File→Open" dialogs.
But the easiest way to email a image from Aperture is simply to use the toolbar icon or the keyboard shortcut "{Option}+e". Select an email program and an image exporting preset (which sets the size and other parameters) via "Aperture→Preferences→Export".
Others may have advice for Flickr. I don't use it.

  • Does it work with encrypted disk images?

    Hallo,
I have a 10 GB fixed size image on my account and it is encrypted. It uses about 4,8 GB on the disk.
I would like to know if time machine is able to detect when changes are made inside such disk image,
if yes, if it is able to add just modified data or if it will copy all 4,8 GB file every time backup is made.
    Thanks

If it is a standard encrypted disk image, Time Machine will copy the whole 4.8 GB every time.
But you can convert your disk image to a "SparseBundle" with this Terminal command:
hdiutil convert -format UDSB -imagekey sparse-band-size=32768 -encryption -o ~/Desktop/newimagename /path/to/olddisk_imagename (make sure that is all on one line)
That will copy your old disk image to a new one on the Desktop. A sparsebundle looks and behaves the same way as a regular .dmg. But the sparsebundle is actually a package that contains all of its data in 16MB bands. With any luck, your data changes will clump together in a few of these bands, and Time Machine will copy only those bands over rather than the whole shebang.

  • Best way to work with large image sequences

    Hello,
Im relatively new to Adobe CS4. I am learning to create detailed animations with another software that produces thousands of still images. (I normally save them as  .png, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps) I spent the money to buy CS4 becuase I was told this was what I needed to turn those images into video, add titles, captions, credits, etc. So far, I've been useing PremierPro to import the image sequences and add titles. But when I export the sequences, the quality is crap. I've tried all combinations of exporting formats, but even when I try to go for the greatest quality, my files are 100 MB large, and the quality is still crap (nice smooth lines are jagged, and details are blurry and pixilated, even with the titles I added). Can someone tell me how I should be working with these still image sequences so that I can retain the best quality while keeping the file size large. These videos are just played on local computer systems, not over a network or on DVDs. I dont know if I should be bringing the shorter clip sequences into AfterEffects and somehow exporting those. I just dont know. But nothing is working for me. Help!
    Nikki

    Hello!,
The output frame size has so far been the same as my rendering size (720 x 480), but I's just trying to get the best quality, if I need to render larger I can. Delivery has so far just been video, no audio, although when I get better at this I will record narrations of the animations and put that in. Playback is intended only for computers. Every once in a while, it is requested in a format that will be played over our network, but I wanted to worry about that later.
The preset I chose for the sequence was the DV-NTSC Standard 32kHz
    The project/sequence settings are:
    General
         Editing Mode: DV NTSC
         Timebase: 29.97 fps
    Video
         Frame size: 720, 480 4:3
Pixel Aspect Ratio: D1/DV NTSC (0.9091)
Display Format: 30 fps Non-Drop-Frame Timecode
    Audio
         doesnt matter
    Video Previews
         Preview File Format: NTSC DV
         Codec: DV NTSC
         Maximum Bit Depth
Hope that was the information you requested.
