Hi Tom,
I am currently involved in developing a web front end for our book search engine. We used JSF and though we had some issues initially, we are pretty happy with the results. You can check it out at http://books.infact.com.
As for pagenation, the fetching of results (including number of results retrived each time, total count of results etc) should be handled by the back end of your search engine, in my opinion. The JSF part should communicate with the backend to get the number of results it needs to display. Hope that helps.

    Hi SueLSmith,
I don't have or use any kind of Extender with my Home Network to know how Network Magic recognizes the Extenders on the Network Map..
Suggestion: If the third computer can connect to the Router without going through the Extender, remove the Extender and see what happens. I mean to physically disconnect and remove the Hawking from the Router itself. Turn off the Extender.
After the Extender is removed, see what Computer Name is associated with the Third Laptop.

  • In Modified Preferences I have a URL that keeps coming up as a search engine. I have deinstalled it and removed it from the Tabs and History. How can i get rid of this?

I accessed this site then decided it was not what I needed.
I De-installed it by going to my control panel and removing it.
I restarted my PC and it comes up as my home page. I deleted it from my History and recently visited sites. restarted my PC and it still comes up as the primary search engine as the opening page.

I was trying to set up my home page using my web settings. That did not work.
Set it up using foxfire. Works great.
    Thanks.

...tag. If you wanted a description and keyword meta tag, you first need to create the correct format...
    <meta name="description" content="this is where the description goes" />
<meta name="keywords" content="keywords go here" /> (ignored by most browsers)
You also MUST reduce the size of that description. Generally speaking one or two sentences is it and formatting is also ignored (all the line breaks). That massive block is being ignored first, because it's not correctly formatted, second even if it was, it is going to present to the search engines as a cramming situation and be ignored.
Your meta tags are not a major factor in how your site will be found. In fact, the keywords meta tag (which it appears you have combined with your description tag) is completely ignored by the major search engines. Your site needs to have keyword rich, relevant html text first and foremost. Without it, you won't be found.
EDIT: Also, being indexed takes time. You may benefit from creating a Google Webmaster Account, but there is no guarantee it will speed up the process. Indexing can take up to a month in some situations. If the site just went up, give it time.

I had google as my search engine for a number of years, but now when I type in anything Bing comes up.  I went to prefernces and google is checked off as the search engine.  Anything I can do to get back to google and not use bing?

  • HT202225 I keep getting pop ups on my iMac for the first time in 6 years after one of my kids tried to watch football through crichd tv. safari now opens with smart search engine rather than google every time i try to open a new web page.

Ever since one of my kids tried to watch football on a website called crichd tv I keep getting pop us come up like Mackeeper and every time i try to open a web page it comes up with Smartsearch rather than google which is my preferred search engine in preferences. I have blocked extensions and changed homepage to google but this Smartsearch keeps overriding. Also a thing called MacKeeper keeps popping up I have followed the instructions to uninstall but the file it says to move to trash from the Applications folder but it simply isn't there or anywhere else. The file to uninstall Smartsearch is also not where they say it is in Library>frameworks>
Very frustrating from going from a perfectly working system to a now very frustrating and annoying pop ups coming uo after every time i open a new web page.
Any help or assistance in this matter would be very much appreciated.
    Russ

You (or your kids) inadvertently installed adware. You do not need to download or install anything to fix it.
Any tips on how to stop it from happening?
Yes. To learn how to avoid it in the future read How to install adware.
If you require them, Apple's removal instructions are linked in the Recovery Procedure near the end of that document. Read and follow them carefully. Pay particular attention to the easily overlooked passages directing you to restart your Mac when required.

  • How to track user visit my page via search engine(google)

    hi there,
is it possible to track that an user visited my page via search engine ( i.e google) using servlet?
what will request.getHeader("user-agent"); return if an user comes via search engine. will it return as "google" or just the browser name. is there any other possible way to distinguish that my page visited via google or user visited my page directly. kindly post your view on this. it will be helpful for most of the projects.
    Regards,
    A.

Check the referrer. This is the URL where the request is coming from.
String referrer = request.getHeader("referer"); // Yes, with the legendaric misspelling. If the user used Google, this will come from the Google domain.
Keep in mind that the client has full control over what it sends along the request, so it could also spoof the referrer value. But at least this solution will cover the majority of the users anyway.

  • Search engines keeps reappearing

Every time i remove yahoo and bing from my list of search engines in the search bar they keep coming back.

    ''' Make google/wikipedia/bing as Default '''
In order to change the default search engine or the order of search engines in the top right search box in Firefox, please perform the following steps:
#Move the mouse cursor inside the search box at the top right of the Firefox window and click the down arrow next to the provider's logo.
#If you would like to select another search engine, simply pick the engine from the dropdown list.
In order to change the order of the search engines, do this:
#From the dropdown list, select ''Manage Search Engines...''.
#In the upcoming window, you have all your search engines listed. To change the order, simply click one search engine and then select ''Move up'' or ''Move down'' from the buttons on the right side in order to change the order of the search engines.

  • I added a program but somnehow ended up with "searchqu" as my search engine, how do you get rid of it?

I added a program that somehow put the search engine "searchqu" on my computer. How do you get rid of it? I looked up in the web engines and it is not listed. A blog board I read says it is coming through google chrome that it has to be uninstalled... any ideas?

Searchqu gets installed if you don't opt-out of the installation when you install a 'free' app from bandoo.com which provides free emoticons.
If you have this app on your system now, uninstall it first, otherwise searchqu will reappear again after you complete the following steps.<br><br>
To revert to Google as your preferred search engine, please do the following.<br><br>
#In the location bar, type '''about:config''' and hit Enter.<br><br>
#In the filter at the top, type: '''keyword.URL'''<br><br>
#Double click it and remove whatever's in there and replace it with http://www.google.com/search?q=<br><br>
#In the filter at the top again, copy/paste the following (remove keyword.URL first): '''browser.startup.homepage'''<br><br>
#Right click it, choose '''Modify '''and then click '''Reset'''.<br><br>
    #Close the tab.<br><br>
#Click the Firefox button, go to Add-ons, then Extensions and remove these add-ons if they're in there: '''Windows iLivid Toolbar '''and '''SearchquToolbar '''.<br><br>
#Next, open Windows Explorer and navigate to '''C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\searchplugins'''. In there, delete the following: '''SearchquWebSearch.xml'''<br><br>
#Go to Add/Remove Programs and look for '''Windows iLivid Toolbar '''and '''SearchquToolbar '''again. Remove if found. You might possibly find a reference to "Web Search" (searchqu) in Add/Remove Programs too. If so, remove it.<br>
The URL to add in "keyword.URL" becomes a link in this post, so right click it and choose "Copy Link Location" to copy it to the Windows clipboard. Then hit CTRL+V to paste it. Saves you having to type the whole thing.
Next, open a Command Prompt (Run As Administrator) and type the following: '''regsvr32 /u searchqudtx.dll''' and hit Enter. If you get an error message, you'll have to enter the full path. Do a Windows search for '''WI3C8A '''and then right click it and choose Open Containing Folder, or Open File Location. Then make a note of the full path.
'''To reset your home page, do the following'''.<br><br>
    * Go to the site you want to set as your homepage.<br><br>
    * Click the Firefox button, go to '''Options '''| '''Options '''| '''General'''.<br><br>
    * Make sure it says "''Show My Homepage''" in the first dropdown menu.<br><br>
    * Click the button called "'''Use Current Pages'''" to set the homepage to the one you have on the screen.<br>

  • How do I get rid of Google as a search engine, new computer. windows 7. shows yahoo as unavailable?

I tried changing the search engine to yahoo in about:config. but google keeps coming up. In manage search engines None were available and google wasn't listed. I'm not sure how to proceed.

If you are referring to the Search on the Default Firefox Homepage (about:home), then that can not be changed, not easily atleast. The default homepage is hardcoded to use Google as its search provider.
To change the Firefox Default Homepage search provider you need to edit aboutHome.xhtml and aboutHome.dtd; Which will take Web Development Coding skillz.
If you are having trouble with the homepage Preference not saving after following the steps Here: [http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/How%20to%20set%20the%20home%20page How to set Homepage.]
Then you may need to refer to these two articles:

    *[http://kb.mozillazine.org/Preferences_not_saved KB: Preference not Saved]

  • Spread sheet links to search engines?

On our sales portal www.OrbitDirect.net more and more of our b2b customers are viewing and searching over 1,000,000 products using an iPAD ... Is there a spreadsheet app that enables a user to click on an item in the spread sheet which activates a search on our site or any search engine for that matter?

Naturally moments after I proclaim that all is well and good I'm proven horribly wrong when I click some random cheese link for the joy of not being redirected simply to find myself on a 'mortgage' site.
    Alrighty then...time for more info.
I've tried disabling ALL add-ons, including the AVG ones that get lumped in automatically and that hasn't done me any good. I've also tried creating a new Firefox profile just to see what would happen to no avail. Part 1 of the article Morbus so kindly provided has thus far not helped at all and I'm going to give part 2 a shot...after some sleep. It's 5:10 AM here and I'm just starting to get too depressed to really press on tonight.
I ~was~ going to do a System Restore to a point before I had the issue before coming to the realization that I forgot to set the Restore Disk Space Usage to something useful in order to HAVE something like that, so that plan's out of the window.
If worse comes to worse I can't reinstall my OS because my Install Disc is back home and I'm out of state for the summer, so either I figure this out...or I have to seriously consider not using Firefox for the next few months. I don't know exactly WHAT'S being affected, so I don't know what is or isn't a security risk at the moment.
    Natch.

  • Are there any known issues with the epub plugin causing firefox to revert search engine back to yahoo and then disabling the ability to change search settings?

My wife recently added a plugin, epub reader. Upon starting up Firefox the next day she noticed that the default search engine was changed back to Yahoo after we previously fixed this. Furthermore the ability to change search settings was grayed out. After epub reader was removed the problem was solved. I am surprised that I am unable to find anything written to this end about epub reader. Is this a tool promoted and distributed by Yahoo?
Incidentally, how much would each user need to contribute to get mozilla away from Yahoo? Yahoo is, in my opinion, little more than an advertising vehicle, and not a real search engine.

I went to Costco today and asked long known VZW Kiosk rep re what phone would he recommend...DX, DI or Fascinate.
Not to my surprise, I was told that DX is the best of those three. Given the fact that all three is the same price $199, it indicates that is has nothing to do with price.
When I acquired him about how Fascinate sales going, rep told me that since that phone went for sale this Thursday, local Costco only sold 10 Fascinate but that not all...7 of them were returned back to Costco by Saturday. That is a 70% return rate which seems to be way too high for the high level smartphone.
At the same time, local Costo VZW kiosk can't keep up with demand of the DX, they are being sold out as soon as they are getting them. I am not advertising for DX here as I am myself briefly owned DX as soon as it was released and its problem with reboot forced me to return it as I didn't want to deal with replacement as I had bad experience in the past two years with VZW replacing my phones every two to three month with replacement phone being worse then the one that is being replaced.
There is no such a thing as a perfect smartphone (sorry to all iPhone fans) but VZW should take a special "achievement" award for screwing up such a wonderful phone as Galaxy S.
I can only hope that either DX with 2.2 will be better than the one with 2.1 or I will wait for what is coming up with HTC in November.

  • URL, email links in Flash swf files shows up in search engine

Hi, can you please help? I post this problem a while ago.
My problem is: I developed a website in Flash 8 on the Mac.
The Flash swf file is displayed via Dreamweaver doc. When I do a
search and, when the site is found in Google, all the links used in
the Flash swf file appears in the snippets below the main title. I
would like to know where I'm going wrong, and how can I prevent
Google from displaying the URL and email details.
Do I need to use a preloaded, or do I need to put the Flash
swf movie file in a table in Dreamwever.
    Many thanks,
    Blue_Mac

    >I don't know how this is happening then. Search engine
    spiders don't
    >read through compiled files like Flash.
Thanks, this is reassuring. Although it seems to have done
    just that.
The following action script is where the details are coming
from. I've used the name 'whatever" as an example. I don't mind the
URLs on view as much as I mind my email address because of security
    issues.
    on (release) {
    //Goto Webpage Behavior
    getURL("mailto:[email protected]","_blank");
    //End Behavior
I'll check my files again to see if I've miss anything out -
I have done this so many times already.
