Worst Forum Registration Process Ever

I just survived the worst forum registration process ever, my ID has to be 9 characters long, for real?  Talk about discouraging participation, mission accomplished, on that note, hi there, glad to be here behind the Iron Curtain sorta speak.

I just survived the worst forum registration process ever, my ID has to be 9 characters long, for real?
There are a number of well-designed forums (aside from Cisco) that requires a minimum of 9 characthers.  Some will only accept emails.

  • Cannot finalise registration process of CS6 due to Adobe ID error

I have just installed 13 copies of CS6 in our studio, 12 successfully but one is having problems. The registration process goes smoothly using our relevant Adobe licences, the problem occurs when we have to enter the Adobe ID at the end of the process. The two option sappear, sign in later or sign in now. Once we click sign in now it just becomes the spinning wheel of boredom, can't do anything. of course the problem is that it says you have 7 days to do so before it makes the application inoperable.
So what is wrong and how do I fix this and what does an Adobe ID have to do with this whole thing anyway? We have the legal licences, why do we also need an Adobe ID to complete the process
    Graham

I had the same issue & contacted Tech Support several times before finally they found that it must be my "corporate network" setup.
This is in part becuase Adobe is now requiring that you use your Adobe ID to register CS6.  See the link below:
Adobe ID Required for Photoshop CS6 Beta and Upcoming CS 6 Products
    http://blogs.adobe.com/oobe/2012/03/adobe-id-required-for-photoshop-cs6-beta-and-upcoming- cs-6-products.html
After several "live" chats with Adobe support they gave me a link to directions for a work around.  The problem was our "corporate network" setup, so this will occur on each machine that you install CS6 on while connected to a "corporate network".
To work around the CS6 registration error on a "corporate network" you must do one of the following: disable the proxy server, disconnect from the internet completely to use the Offline Activation option, or use an alternate outside internet source to complete the CS6 registration.
Adobe Tech Support directed me to a forum on how to disable the proxy server, but really all you need to do is unplug your internet source, and then you can generate the codes that are needed to complete the registration with the Offline Activation option. This worked for me, I'm all set now.
    See the links below:

  • Why is the whole registration process so convoluted?

I seem to be doing cartwheels galore to register my machines. I understood that there would be issues with my being behind a proxy, but I find myself entering redundant data over and over again.
More to the point, I have many questions:
1 - What is the difference between sconadm and the java regclient as far as registration process? Shouldn't these 2 functions be merged? Shouldn't they use a common pool of information?
2 - Why do I need to run the java discovery in disconnected mode and then run the browser version in order to get my boxes registered?
3 - Can I add the missing information to the ProductRegistrationData.xml file prior to registering the information? This includes system_serial_no, serial_no, vendor, system_contract_id, contract_id, address_1, address_2, city, state_province, country_territory, and postal_code. This saves manual editing on the web site.
    Thanks.

Thanks for the response. Hopefully I can talk about the inventory part in this forum since the vast majority of my issues lie in that area.
In response to point #2, I am behind a firewall which seems to effect the registration process. If I try to register the machines straight from the browser, it seems to nab all of my proxy information from there and then ignores my machines because it thinks they are all out on the Internet. So I am forced to use the BigAdmin method of registering my gear in disconnected mode (http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/sundocs/articles/screginvdm.jsp).
Another area of frustration is the lack of required software checks in the running of apps and loading of software. In point, the java client for registration needs to use the JRE 1.5.0_13. This is not checked for when executed and causes the proxy features to not necessarily work correctly. The installation of the SUNWservicetagu package does not check for the required PICL libraries. These libraries were not installed on boxes which used the SUNWCall cluster but were installed if the full blown SUNWCXall cluster was used. The effect of not having the PICL packages installed is that these boxes return a value of -1 to the registration client.
As far as your response to point #3, I would think that being able to programatically insert data into fields would be a tremendous time saver for anyone with large volumes of machines who wants to make use of this inventory tool. Otherwise, there is no point to performing this task. Also, having a command line interface like sconadm for doing this registration would be prefered over the java client for sending this data.

  • Lightroom 3 - The worst program Adobe has ever put out...

If anyone cares to read this, I will be the first to say DO NOT UPGRADE!!
I am spreading the word - facebook, word of mouth, every professional photographer in LA I know, blogs, etc.
You gotta raise hell to get changes.
Lets see if Adobe will do anything about these issues...
I thought that Adobe created "beta" for a reason - to smooth out all the kinks before they put the disk out. Nope.
I have been waiting for them to put out updates on many issues since I purchased the disk a month ago.... Still waiting Adobe!!!
It is excruciating to watch my photos take literally 4-5 minutes to open.  Even worse, is the time it takes to save from Photoshop CS5 back to Lightroom - I timed 14min. FOR A PHOTO!
I feel like the old days when I rendered video - went out to get a coffee, and came back to find the spinning of wheel of death still spinning.
Oh, and I got to talk to India today too! for 3.5 hours - with no resolution to my problems.
Susheel accessed my computer remotely  - saw my catalog - sees 73,000 images, and asks "are you a photographer?"  REALLY?!  DId you REALLY just ask me that Susheel??
Why I HATE Lightroom 3 - let me count the ways:
    1. Adobe closed their tech support in Portland (whom I have spoken to many times, and ALWAYS got my problems resolved.  They always went above & beyond the protocol - and we sit here and wonder why the US economy is crashing), now you get a no-name person in India or in the philippines (who have no extension, no email, not even a direct line so when you sit on a call for 3.5 hours and need to call back you are starting all over again.. Dear Adobe - do we live in 1980?? You are suppose to be a LEADER in technology.
I am morally against outsourcing, my artwork is all about the death of american industrial capitalism.  In a time when the US is in crisis, Adobe works on moving things out of the US.  I'm outraged - You can't get someone in the US EVEN IF YOU TRIED!  The best I could do was talk to someone in sales about this - wow. What does that say - American's "look good and sound good to sell our product, but when it comes to something advanced in technology like using the product and trouble shooting, we prefer to use someone with no extension in another country"
    2. They don't offer support for anyone who is running off a network (they expect professionals to be working off their local "c" drive or Mac internal hard drive.  HA!!
    3. They continued to blame my network - even though my network is running smoothly, has no limitations on access, will open directly into photoshop just fine (and quick!), worked absolutely perfectly in Lightroom 2.... Yeah, it's the network, riiight.
    4. Lightroom 3 is corrupting files when opening into Photoshop CS5 - if I'm lucky enough to open them
    5. When I do get a photograph open, it loses it's filters once saved back into Lightroom (I rate my photos to help me navigate through the masses) - this really is hurting my workflow. When I shoot 800 images in the studio in one day - I DO NOT want to go back and fish around to find the edited version that lost its flag...
    6. I have been promised to get a phone call "sometime next week" since there is no extension I can call back on to move forward.  I'll keep you updated - let you know if Susheel keeps his word.  He couldn't tell me who was going to call me, or when, but he "assures" me it will happen.
         I wont hold my breath

So the worst programme Adobe ever put out, yet even though you can have a 30 day trial you still went out and brought it...
Yep, everything is always someone else's fault. It's never because they've made a stupid decision to buy before making absolutely sure that the software will work for them.
Seems like nobody is prepared to take responsibility for their own actions these days.
So, by that logic Adobe does not have to take ANY responsibility for pushing this kludge out the door?  Given they had a RC ready almost INSTANTLY after release should be sufficient to show they KNEW they were pushing garbage out the door.  Adobe is indeed responsible for their offering a know buggy product, bugs which CROSS PLATFORMS so it has to be the core code design not the user hardware or anything a given user has done.  Sure some systems might have setups which help make these issues more apparent, but that is on Adobe to deal with as they should publish limitations and known configurations which can potentially induce greater problems...but these entail an admission and accepting responsibility for the original buggy release...btw, release notes used to be where one would find quirks info and how to work around them post system requirements being carved in stone and set to entice the lowest common denomonator user.
One more thing...LR is marketed not as a PRO TOOL, it is sold as a tool for the average to hobby level photographer.  That is also has huge appeal to the pro market is a happy accidentally-on-purpose thing...but to berate people who don't feel it's their job to troubleshoot a commercial app is completely unreasonable...but anymore the US consumer is the largest beta tester group on the planet...I wonder how our EU counterparts are fairing as ironically, they have stronger consumer protection laws...try pushing a crap product out in the German market...heh-heh, yeah good luck with that.
Actually I would say this is not the worst software Adobe has ever pushed out the door but perhaps the worst photography software they ever sent as RTM.  Many, many PDF related apps and utils have actually been worse and we won't get into what they have done to Flash and Dreamweaver after that acquisition.  The closest analog I can see if that of what happened to Norton products post Norton being purchased by Symmantec.
However, I am willing to give Adobe time to address this because they did have the RC ready almost right away.  Should they have done this?  No way, but perhaps the marketing wonks put the company in the position where it had to meet the release date even if issues were discovered and fixes in the pipeline already and it was gonna be a 3-9 week delay before the issues were mostly fixed.  But they did and well, even those who ran the beta, ran the 30-day trial did not find the issues because they simply did not use that part of the program enough for the bugs to manifest their effects to the degree when you the user, realize something odd is happening.
I too am pissed, beyond belief as I depend on LR for my business, I can, however work around it for a while but I don't make money as a photographer I use photography for my business so the issues, while causing huge levels of frustration, are not fatal....yet...all I know is I don't want to revert to LR2.7 because I have done so much work onLR3/ LR3.2RC already and the tools themselves are indeed superior in LR3.x....when they work and that is the rub.  So many here are telling those with these bugs affecting their income/workflow bought into this to save time and leverage the bestter NR/sharpening and I say much improved adjustment tools.  I don't use the lense profiles at all really so nothing special for me there.
I would ask a question...I am sure this has been asked and answered but, eh, why not one more time because search is sooooo "haaaard"
but does this issue affect all file types?  I am shooting DNG but can switch to PEF if needed and convert on import but would rather just shoot DNG.  I am not willing to switch to JPG because if I have to do this I give up too much control on my images, for that I would switch back to LR2.7.
Also, what versions of Camera RAW were used in the beta and what versions are being used with LR3.  I know I did upgrade to ACR6.2(?) or whatever the most current version.  I understand there are a ton of factors at play in these bugs but I do doubt it's ACR as my old antique PS CS3 version of Photoshop does not have any problems, of course it's using the old version of ACR 4.6(?) again sorry I forget what version exactly but it's trivial and can be determined.
I like LR because I don't need the advanced features of PS all that often, still PS is a fun tool to have as a backup for the complicated shots though I don't have time to really spend in it as I would like to...
But in general I guess I am trying to say, Adobe had to know in advance of the RTM original LR3 because they had the RC ready almost instantly.  Of course past releases of LR also had the same experience just the bugs were, well, not as impactful I suppose.  I have been happy with LR since 1.x versions but this version is painful to support...and I as I previously posted I won't screw with Adobe's refund people, likely off-shored staff who get bonuses for talking customers OUT of getting a refund, I will simply file a chargeback with Mastercard...that is why I use it, so I don't have to let companies waste my time wading through their red-tape.  And btw, Adobe knows the customer will WIN any chargeback because this evidence of a known to be defective product was sold to the consumer and the customer even allowed the mfg to remediate the issue only they failed to deliver in a timely fashion.  So, if one is not happy just "go to the mattresses"...use the chargeback hammer.  The bonus is every chargeback granted to the consumer costs the retailer, Adobe in my case, $35 when they lose...

You can do that on all forms Penny, Does keep them clean.
It does mean that with no javascript they will never work, but in this day an age that should not be an issue.
It looks like they were not hitting the registration url, but may have had a cached version of the page and using that to submit Penny.
Its a good sollution - ideally for properness data- is a html5 attribute so the doctype really needs to be that. In XHML using rel="" on the form with the action in there is a good alternative as well.
    As a note Lynda's code was :
    $('.data-submit').data();
    This woud return all data
    $('.data-submit').data('action');
Is more specifc and faster, if you had other data elements it would just fetch all or fall over.

  • User Management Setup: Registration Process not visible in Access request f

    Hi,
We are trying to setup a autorisation flow for our responsibilities by using User Management.
For this I added some roles to the MISC Role category.
Then I created a registration process for these roles.
After that I would expect to see the acces request in the Additional acces request page. Unfortunately I don't.
When I run the view object behind the page, I notice that column umx_reg_services_vl.reg_funtion_id is empty for the roles I added. The seeded authorization that was allready present has a value for this column, and is presented in the screen.
I am wondering how to add a value into this reg_function_id column. I cannot seem to find the functionality in the User management pages.
    We are on 12.1.2
    Can someone help me out?
    Kind regards,
    Wilro

    Hi,
You will need to have required permission (atleast read permission) for displaying this content. Access denied is showing at com.sap.portal.system/security/sap.com/NetWeaver.Portal/high_safety/com.sap.portal.heartbeats/components/PortalHeartbeat
Go to System Admin -> Permissions -> Portal permissions. Expand security zone folder -> sap.com and the subsequent folders in the above path (sap.com/NetWeaver.Portal/..) . Right click the last folder in that path as mentioned above and provide read permissions to the delegated content admin role.

  • This is more of a statement than a question but I can't stand iTunes. It is THE WORST application I've ever used.

The single worst application I've ever used. Period. I'll never buy another song or use it as a back up again. I'll pay $9.99 per month for Spotify and a cloud-based back up service instead of using this PoS software to backup my family's iPhones. I consider myself a loyal Apple user having owned at least two Apple computers since the early 1990's.

If you like crappy quality and remakes of songs from nobodys then use Spotify. If you can't use iTunes then maybe you need computer lessons. It doesn't get much easier than iTunes. Yes,they changed it and made it a bit clunky if you ask me, but for an all around video and music manager, CD burner, streamer and radio,it doesn't get much better.

  • Rerun registration process

    Hi folks,
is there a way to re-run registration process in order to fill void fields or change address?
    Thanks,

You can change your registration data with Apple here: http://register.apple.com
You'll have to sign in with your Apple ID and have the serial number at hand.

  • Worst! Documentation! Ever! (?)(AVPrefsType)

I'm sorry if the title seems a bit harsh, but I am getting really frustrated with this:
I'm trying to understand a little bit about the Adobe Acrobat SDK 8.0. More specifically I'm interested in using the method AcroExch.App.SetPreferenceEx described in the Interapplication Communication API Reference (InterApplication_Communication\iac_api_reference.pdf, p. 27) of the documentation for the Acrobat SDK 8.0.
The preferences that can be set with the method are described thus:
"The preferences item whose value is set. See the Acrobat and PDF Library API Reference for a list of preference items."
After a while I find that the Acrobat and PDF Library API Reference is included in the documentation as the file Plugins\acrobat_pdfl_api_reference.pdf.
Since I want to change the value of a "preferences item" or a "preference item" I search for that, but it can not be found. After some more investigating I find the method AVAppSetPreference (p. 1422). Very interesting. It describes its parameter as
"IN/OUT The preference value to set. See AVPrefsType for a list of preference descriptions."
Now, this is surely what I'm after; a "list of preference descriptions". I follow the link to the description of AVPrefsType and I find? Nothing! Or, at least, close to it. What I find (p. 1040) is
    Platform availability
Windows, Mac OS, UNIX, Mac OS, UNIX
    Product availability
    Acrobat, Reader
    Windows
    Syntax
    typedef ASEnum8 AVPrefsType
    Description
A structure containing values that specify the Acrobat viewer's preferences settings. It can contain up to 255 entries. It contains bit-flag ASUns32 constants for use with AVDocPrintParams().
    Related methods

    AVAppSetPreference
    Header file reference

This is not a list of preferences that can be set.
Am I missing something or is this really the Worst. Documentation. Ever?

    >Am I missing something or is this really the Worst. Documentation. Ever?
I have seen worse, but it is consistently disappointing that Adobe
give this such a low priority. Once, the documentation was edited by a
human, now there is the flawed idea that you can generate it with a
computer. It has now reached the stage where looking in the header
    files is often necessary.

  • How to create custom "new user registration" process?

    Hello,
I need to allow new users self-registration, but they must provide a little bit more information during registration. So I need to change or create new registration process.
    How can I do this?

As far as your goal is only to extend user attributes:
    1) Check the membership module
    2) View source on the Registration page
    3) Create your new registration page with
new user ldap attributes as input fields names
and test your new template with membership module
PS: For more customization you have to write your
own module or extend membership module.
    Cheers,
    Alex :-)

  • User Registration Process: Task Assingment for a Self-Request User

    Hi guys,
Doubt: In the User Registration Process Can I configure the Target User's Manager as the Assignee of the Awaiting Approval Data? I understood that I can do that because the user has not been created yet. Does it make sense? I need to send the approval to the user's manager and he/she will be responsible to complement the user info.
Scneario: In the User Registration Process, that Awaiting Approval Data has been configured with a Task Assignement Adapter. This adapter reads the Manager Login in the request info and sets this values as the "Adapter return value for key". Also, the adapter has another task that sets the "Adapter return value for key type". The adapter is working ok.
Problem: When the adapter is run, OIM outputs a message that says adapter was run. I don't know why, but OIM runs the adapter many times, where it should run once. Also, the task is been assigned to the SelfREg user.
What do I have to do to get my task assignment adapter working as expected?
    Thanks,

Yeap. Sorry! I've searched for my problem but I haven't seen that post.
More problems with hard-coded-based development of OIM. A process must be a process, a task must be a task, a form must be a form etc. A product like OIM can not have internals and hard-coded instructions. And dont have statements like: If the object is something of OIM, don't allow this and that; else, allows the user do whatever :-)
    Thanks kevin.

  • Forum registration captcha

    Hi!
I think the forum registration captcha ("For which Linux distribution is this forum?") should accept either "Arch", "Arch Linux" and "Archlinux" as correct replies. It took me several minutes of uselessly twiddling with my browser settings before I hit on trying to spell it the latter way.
At least I think that's what finally got me registered. Please pardon me if I am wrong.
