Would like to install Garmin maps on iMac to receive auto updates, however I'm having issues. Any thoughts...
Recently purchased an iMac in April and now have interested in loading some Garmin software on system to facilitate lifetime automatic updates. However, I seemed to get locked up along the way. I've deleted Garmin from launchpad. Any thoughts on how to successfully load this for Mac from the Garmin website?
Can you explain what the problem is? How far into the process do you get?
I tried their web extension (or whatever it is called), but it didn’t work. You only need the Garmin Express app to update your maps.

It is a somewhat annoying piece of software. It installs a completely useless Status Menu extra that stays on your menu whether you want it there or not. If you quit the app it stays. You have to use the Quit command from the menu extra, then it will go away. The only thing it provides is access to the Preferences and to Quit, both of which are in the App itself. They’ve got some pretty stupid software engineers, but the basic app itself gets the job done.

I have not heard much from folks regarding problems or success for this combination. You will just have to try to see if it loads. You will need to be prepared to do the updates that were needed from Win7 and will most likely be required for Win8.1, if it works at all. If it installs, the 2 problem areas are typically the print driver and AcroTray. The rest may install, yet these may not. In such a case there are some workarounds, but getting XI is a better solution.

Please find your Mac Model Identifier from About This Mac -> (More Info) -> System Report -> Hardware and compare it to the following list. If your model identifier appears in this list, you can only install Windows 7.

There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
Install the Apple Boot Camp software. Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7. Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows. Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7. Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7. VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows. The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris. It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc. There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization. The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive. -
I have a used iMac 21.5 in that i would like to reset the apple id so when I get updates in goes to my id instead of the previous owners id. Which in the case is a relative. How can I do this ?
The Mac, it's OS and the iLife apps are still associated with the original owners Apple ID.Normally the original owner needs to follow the process to prepare a Mac for selling or giving it to someone else. They need to call Apple Care and request that their Apple ID be disassociated from the Mac, erase the Mac and install the most recent version of OS X that shipped on the Mac, reinstall the iLife apps and deauthorize the Mac from their iTunes account.
If you have a bill of sale of some sort and can prove the Mac beongs to you, Apple may be able to assist you. Call Apple Care and explain the issue. -
I have recently purchased MacBook Pro with Mac OSX 10.7.3 Lion and I would like to install Final Cut Pro 6 Studio2, and it came up with this error: 'you can't open application FinalCutProStudio.mpkg because PowerPc apps are no longer supported......Is there a way to run FCP6 on lion withoput this error? Once install, hold SHIFT and launch iTunes.
When prompted, point iTunes to the correct location for the iTunesLibrary.itl file which should be in the iTunes folder under <user>/Music on the old drive. -

After installing Camera Raw 8.6 I am unable to install the plugin in CS4. Please advice.Camera Raw 8.6 is only compatible with Photoshop CS6 and Photoshop CC. There is no way for you to install it in Photoshop CS4. The message you are receiving means that you need Camera Raw 8.6 to have full compatibility with Lightroom 5. But in that message you are given the option to edit a copy that includes the Lightroom adjustments. That is the option that you should use. Lightroom will create a copy (PSD or TIF, depending on your choice in Lightroom preferences) and will send that copy to Photoshop CS4. Then you can use Photoshop and all of its features to continue editing your image. When you close and save the image in Photoshop, it will appear in your Lightroom folder along with the original raw file.
Another option you could use would be to use the free Adobe DNG converter to create DNG (digital negative) copies of your raw files. Those DNG files would be compatible with the Photoshop that you have now. Your other option would be to upgrade your Photoshop.
