Write Failure due to packet loss

Hi All,
Is it possible to occur a cache put failure due to packet loss. The below JMX report log (network-health-detail.txt) shows that TX success as 0.9999 for NodeId(8 PROXY node) and RxSuccess shows 0.9999 (node id 9 which is a STORAGE) exactly the same time.
At the same time I have inserted a cache item which went missing in the cache.
Is it possible to correlate the cache loss with the below data.
Please correct me if my understanding is work. Really looking forward for some expert look at this.

Srinivas

It is more likely that you had other issues that caused your data to go "missing". Lost packets would be resent anyway so should get there eventually. The success rates of 0.9999 would be fine, you would be lucky to get a success rate of 1.0 all the time unless your cluster was not doing much.
When you say the data goes "missing" what do you mean. Presumably you do a put to get data into the cache, how to you try to get it back - a get or a query using a Filter.
What classes are you using for the keys - this can be important and can affect whether your cache works as you expect it to.

  • Excessive Packet Loss 1.87 Mb/s Down 39.63 Mb/s Up - 90.19% limited?

Hello everyone, my name is Sherri.  I became a Fios Internet 50/25 subscriber 4 days ago.  For the first 24 hours speedtest.verizon.net was giving me as much as a 60/30 speed results.  The next morning I noticed web pages taking abnormally long to load (even google.com), so I decided to check my speed again and am now getting as low as 1MB/s download wired or wirelessly.  My upload remains unaffected but browsing can get so slow it's almost unusable.  Any large downloads I try end up failing (i.e. cyanogenmod nightlies).  This has been going on for the past 3 days on all of my devices (android, PC, Macbook).
How can I check if this is a fixable problem on my end or if it's a problem with Fios in my area that I just need to wait out?  I called tech support and they just want to send me a new router, but if it was the router wouldn't my upload be affected as well?

    Ignacio,
The excessive waits on log file parallel write and the related client wait of log file sync may be due to insufficient CPU availability, and may not point at an actual redo log size problem or a problem with the disk speed where the redo is written to disk, especially if there are 3 Oracle instances on the server with a single CPU.
    Paraphrased from "Optimizing Oracle Performance":
The log file sync wait event is one of the first events to show increased latencies due to the time a process spends waiting in a CPU wait queue while processing excessive logical IOs.
Kevin Closson wrote a couple blog entries that examined the potential problems of insufficient CPU capacity and its effects on log file parallel write when writing to solid state disks, and even when writing redo was explicitly disabled:
    http://kevinclosson.wordpress.com/2007/07/21/manly-men-only-use-solid-state-disk-for-redo-logging-lgwr-io-is-simple-but-not-lgwr-processing/
"Once LGWR loses his CPU it may be quite some time until he gets it back. For instance, if LGWR is preempted in the middle of trying to perform a redo buffer flush, there may be several time slices of execution for other processes before LGWR gets back on CPU..." Fix the CPU problem, and the other significant waits may decrease.
    JesusLuvR,
yingkuan's suggestion to look at the SQL statement that performs the 4,365,564 logical IOs, consumes 186.03 CPU seconds, and has an execution time of 225.06 seconds, is likely a very good starting point. You might also want to check the value of the SESSION_CACHED_CURSORS parameter to see if it needs to be adjusted.

  • Packet Loss?? Need help!

Over the past week I've been getting massive problems when gaming online with iRacing. I get halfway through a race and then I get kicked due to packet loss.
I did some ping tests and sure enough im losing between 2-5% of the total packets that were sent. This has made online gaming nearly impossible.
Any help to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated

    Hi Jammydogerman,
Welcome to the forum and thanks for posting. Is the problem affecting any other part of the connection? Can you run a speed test at www.speedtester.bt.com and post the results? Can you also run a tracert and post the results of that as well? That will give us an idea of what’s going on.
    Cheers

  • ORA-12571-TNS: PACKET WRITER FAILURE

    Hi All,
am using oracle 6i and facing this problem when am connecting Forms to Database..
    Error Encounterd:ORA-12571-TNS: PACKET WRITER FAILURE.
    Plz help.
    Regards,
    Neha

this error usually network problem..... i googled it found some solutions try
his is usually due to an improper sqlnet.ora setting. Here are some possible causes and remedies:
** Loose network cables. This error has been observed when there was a loose cable connection to the SCSI disk array (on an Oracle Parallel Server system). Related errors were also subsequently noted in the NT event log.*
** IP address conflict (Oracle 9.0.1).*
** Authentication services. One solution is to edit the sqlnet.ora file and change the line:*
    SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS)
    to
    SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NONE)
After saving the updated file, he was able to hit the retry button on the install and the creation of the database succeeded.

  • 'ORA-12571: TNS:packet writer failure' error while calling procedure from VC++

    hi all,
i am writing stored procedures and calling these from vc++. I have one stored procedure in that all

I think ora-12571 error is when i can't communicate with oracle. But other stored procedures(in and out perameters are numbers) and sql statements are running properly. Only these stored procedure which has in and out perameters as varchar is giving me the above said problem. My out perameter in this procedure strtax is of type varchar and the length 100. Is it the problem. Please suggest me how to over come this problem.

    hi,
    thanks for reply,
I wanna let u know that this is my personal lappy & i have installed apps dump on it in Linux & connect it through VM player in Window environment. I have recently purchased a new Antivirus K7 & installed it on my Lappy. i wanna know does this impact your application or Dbase Bcoz the application is running fine after starting the services in linux.
The only thing is that i am not able access the database through TOAD or SQL*Plus. the same error i am facing in both.
    So
shud i uninstall the antivirus on this And this is the only solution to it ?
If yes, then how do i fix it again when i'll reinstall it Bcoz i need Antivirus as well.

  • Packet Writer Failure Error

    Hi All:
I have been using Discoverer for one week when I experienced a problem of not being able to login to Discoverer Admin/User Editions. The message is : "Failed to Connect to Database - ORA-12571: TNS: Packet Writer Failure." On Friday, I was not able to login in for several hours. I have not been able to login this morning at all.
Although the message mentions TNS, it is not about the TNSNAMES.ORA file -- this file has not be changed in months, and, the problem seems to be intermitant...
Has anyone experienced this problem? This is a first for me...
    Many thanks.
    Gail

    Gail,
ORA-12571 - Has got two Possible Solutions,
    1. Edit the SQLNET.ORA file on the client and the server.
Remove the following entry from the $ORACLE_HOME/NETWORK/ADMIN/SQLNET.ORA
file on both the client and server:
    SQLNET.EXPIRE_TIME=0
    2. Faulty network equipment is likely to cause this error. Search for possible network or network related equipment problems such
    as a bad router card.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks,
    Selva.

  • TNS-12571:TNS PACKET WRITER FAILURE

    Hello Oracle Gurus,
Our Oracle 9i database is hosted somewhere else and is behind the firewall. When accessing this database through TOAD, even after 2 minutes of inactivity, we get the "TNS-12571: TNS Packet writer failure" and we have to reconnect to the database again. This occurs in all of the client machines. The Oracle 9i database's firewall is open for the ip address from which we are using TOAD/SQL*Plus.
Is there any configuration that needs to be changed on the Oracle Client or server side to solve this issue? I appreciate your help.
    Thanks,
    Saku

    Hi,
you can set sqlnet_expire_time option in sqlnet.ora file on the database server and set the time less than 2 mins. This to identify if the problem is because of some firewall configuration or other network related issue which causes the onnection to die.
this parameter should keep all the client connection alive but results in extra trafic.

  • Packet Writer Failure

    Hi,
I am experiencing the following error on a Oracle client PC:
ORA-12571 : TNS Packet Writer Failure. The client PC cannot access any Oracle database, even by using Sql.
The networking environment seems to be 100 % OK.
Analysing the listener trace on the server did not help, nor did re-installing the Oracle client.
Any idea about the problem ?
    Many thanks
    Christian

The network was OK as well as the service names. The listener was running, since other PCs were connecting without any problem. I could see in the listener trace that the connection request was being received and processed by the server like those from other PCs. So...the issue remains a mystery.
I resolved the problem by installing Client 8.1.7 instead of 8.1.6.
    Anyway, thanks for your assistance.

for what i know, MSDAORA provider doesn't support Oracle data types introduced since <font face="tahoma,verdana,sans-serif" size="1" color="#000">version</font> 8, as CLOB, BLOB and so on, so i think that it uses varchar2 up to the 4k limits and then causes this error.
Have you tried with the OraOLEDB.Oracle.1 provider instead?Nice writing, Thanks for your explanation!

  • Help - Newbie - getting "ORA-12571: TNS: packet writer failure" ERROR

    Hi all,
Not sure where to post this, so trying for the general forum to start...
I have also searched and read all the forums for help on this already as well the Oracle documentation and anything I could find from several on-line searches, etc.
I have Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition and Oracle Forms 6i installed on Win2K. Everything worked fine when it was just Oracle 8i running, ie: connecting to the database in SQLPlus Worksheet, but when I try and connect to the database in the datablock wizard in forms I get the ORA-12571: TNS: packet writer failure error!
Don't tell me to re-install, I've done that like 6 times already. I've check the tnsnames.ora files and tried that fix already. I don't know what else to try short of fdisk and redoing everything from scratch again, but I don't have time for that as this machine is used daily for other tasks.
Any help or suggestions are appreciated!!!
    Thx in advance!
    Michelle.
PS: Note to Oracle support staff if you are listening (pardon the pun). Your one line of help for ORA-12571 in the existing support files is rather similar to the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy's info for Earth... After seeing how many people have posted about this problem and how few resources or real answers there are out there, you might want to consider updating the info on this error, because is deserves something more than "mostly harmless"!

This question probably best belongs on the General database forum.

  • Wrt310n packet loss and dhcp failure?

I purchased a wrt310n to replace a netgear POS (which was a temp after my wrt54g died) and I'm having issues. The netgear is slow and temporarily freezes every once in a while. I put the wrt310n in and it worked flawlessly... for about a week. Now I'm getting packet loss between 10% and 20%. Also, after leaving the router running for a couple days (upside down, because it seemed to be freezing when it got hot) it would work for 5-10 minutes and then freeze. Power cycle the thing and... repeat.
I'm only using WEP, the machines have 802.11g cards, I've changed the network to 10.4.2.x (only the private side) and left almost everything else stock. The other things that have been changed are the admin password and logging has been enabled. My ISP is comcast cable. Suggestions? More info required? Anyone know how long 'til DD-WRT will work on these things?
ps-just so my skillset is known, i'm a sysadmin for a very large tech company and have been doing this type of role for over 8 years... that puts me slightly above the average home user... i think...

Nothing yet. I've switched back to my Netgear, for the time being. I'm hoping Linksys actually reads these forums and has a firmware update coming out soon. The Netgear works great until you hit something with a lot of jpgs (like myspace) and then it chokes for a couple minutes. I can deal with that until the first firmware update shows. Hopefully it's soon, since I hate having to box things up and send them back. I've read a few other posts about people having problems and they suggest doing a factory reset. I always change my network over to a 10.x.x.x subnet because I like to avoid common RFC1918 address spaces (geek/hacker issues). Perhaps it doesn't like dealing with class A address space...
