Any ideas to auto refresh essbase db from planning app?

There is a CubeRefresh.cmd utility that refreshes from Planning to Essbase. You will find it in the Planning > Bin directory (the location of which varies depending upon which version you are using). Take a look at the help doc below:

You can't do a Planning refresh in MaxL. MaxL is for Essbase.
However, there's an Planning utility called CubeRefresh.cmd. See: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12825_01/epm.111/hp_admin/ch10s06s01.html that will do what you want.

Error 1054013 when attempting to refresh database from planning

I get the error 1054013: Syntax error loading filters - operation canceled when attempting to refresh the database from planning. I refreshed the security filters but it did not fix the problem. Has anyone else experienced this or does anyone have an idea on the root cause? Thx in advance.

HiThis is actually an Essbase issue. If you stop and start the application it shoudl stop happeningNot sure what causes it, but seems to be long filters (generally created from Planning). It would be worth speaking with Hyperion or checking on the knowledge base for any further info.I have previously cleared the security file and recreated which clears the problem. Error when refreshing essbase using Planning 3.5.1

Hi - I am trying to refresh Essbase using Hyperion Desktop. I get an error message that says
"errors detect
(1018,5): member cannot be set to specified data storage attribute. Level zero dynamic members must have an associated member formula. -2147218897"
I understand what the error message is saying but I am having a hard time trying to locate this member. 1018 is a member in Planning but it's not a dynamic member.

Are you using HSP_UDF on any of the plan types for this member?

Refreshing the Data from a embed view in a view container

Hi everybody
I would like to know how can I do to refresh all data from a View with a view container the problem is:
that I have a window that has a view at the same time this has a view container. The Main view brings the data of editable elements when I select one element of the main view the view container brings a list for that element (dependencies) but only the first time a choose an element loads the correct data, when I choose another one it brings the same old data and doesn't make the call for the wdDoInit() method.
The question is:
How do I force the view to refresh all the data or call again the wdDoInit() method?

Lets say you have two components C1 and C2 and you want method from C1 to be available in C2 then follow these steps:-
1) Goto the Interface Controller of C1 and create a method there lets say doSomething
2) Then goto C2. There you can see Used Web Dynpro Components --> Right click Add Used Component --> Give some name say C1Comp --> Click browse and select C1 --> Click Finish.
3) Next goto Component Controller of C2 --> Properties --> Click Add and check if C1 is added. If not then select the checkbox and select OK.
4) Now goto Implementation tab of C2 and lets say wdDoInit you can write following code:-

How to lock a period in Essbase but the app is Planning app?

Hi!
I am using Planning v11.1.1.3 and have a Planning app.
The requirement is that user can read/write data directly to Essbase via Smartview. I lock a particular period, e.g. Oct, in Scenario dimension so the user cannot write data to Oct in Planning, but how do stop user to write data to Oct via Smartview?
The user has 'Server Access' for Essbase, 'Interactive User' and 'Analytic Services Write Access' for Planning.
If I create a additional filter to lock 'Oct' in Essbase, it seems the user can still write to 'Oct'.
Appreciate if anyone can shed some light on this.

First Smartview is 2 things. Its a planning interface and an Essbase interface.
So users can access Planning forms and still have the right security. I assume you mean users are interfacing Essbase directly to the same cube that is your planning cube so basically bypassing Planning that controls things
you can push the filters from Planning to Essbase but Planning controls the periods from the scenario. And If I remember correctly this is not passed to Essbase.
So your options are 1
1) dont let users access Essbase directly and force them to use Planning forms in Smartview
2) don't push Planning security filters to Essbase and try to replicaate all the security again in Essbase. But the tools is not design for this and refreshing will wipe out all your hardwork so be very very careful
3) push Oracle/Hyperion to finally fix the way they do security to make it more unified process once and for all

Refreshing Database From Planning

Hello,
I have three datases in my Planning application.
I am going to perform a refresh from Planning to Essbase.
Is it possible to control which database is refreshed?
- If so, please tell me how. or point me to a resource I can use as a guide.
Or do I have to refresh all three every time I perform a refresh?

You need not specify any database name at /D. It is just to let planning know that you want to refresh database.
You have two options when you do a refresh.
1. database
2. security filters
/D specifies that you are gonna refresh database and by default it will update changes to all databases( nothing needs to be mentioned in specific). /F specify that you are gonna refresh filters. You can use both parameters as well.
I suggest you to look at the planningweb goto administration--->manage database. This will give you a clear picture of what a Refresh does.

It will solve your problem.
Write the code for 'Cancel' in PAI and refresh your internal table under this code and see to it that the internal table is not populated again in the PBO.

Linking existing Essbase Cube to Planning

My business team created an Essbase cube, and now they want us to link that cube to Planning.
I opened an SR and I was told the following:
1. Ensure you have a test environment to create this new Planning app before moving to production.
2. Create a new Planning app in the test environment with the same name as the production Essbase cube.
3. Export all Essbase data.
4. Copy over the outline to the new Essbase cube in the test env. You can copy over the rest of the Essbase objects as needed (calc scripts, report scripts, etc).
5. Import the Essbase data into the new Essbase cube.
6. refresh Planning
Everything went well except for Step 6. When I do the refresh from Planning, the Essbase Outline gets updated with the one from Planning which doesn't have anything since it was just created.
I need to refresh the Planning Outline with the the one from Essbase that does have the data the users have been working on.

Hi,
You will have to define all the dimension membes etc to Planning. Because Essbase is the database, it will be updated with planning information... There are no shortcuts.. But you can export your dimension members from existing Essbase and load into planning using HAL/ODI/DIM..
Use outline extractor tool to get the existing dimensionality and create 1 metadata file per dimensions.
I believe Oracle support thought that you want to create a new Essbase cube from existing Planning cube.

How to refresh report data from bex query (BW) with parameters

i hope someone can help me with my problem. I developed an desktop application, which loads (actual state) a report from the local file system. After setting the parameters, the report should be saved as a pdf file. Loading the report into the ReportDocument object and exporting the report to a pdf works fine. Setting parameters (without) a data source too. But now i can't refresh the data in the reports given by a parameter (e.g. time).
I know there are two methods to do this. Push and pull. I want to use the pull method, cause my program should exports different reports and i think it should be easier to handle this with this method.
On my development environment is installed:
Crystal Reports SP 4
MS Visual Studio 2010 (coding with C# .NET)
.NET Framework 4
SAP Integration Kit
Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010 SP1 - SDK libraries
Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010 SP1 - Runtime 32 bit
SAP GUI 7.20 (Compilation 3)
The bex query is enabled for external use from ole db for olap. Do i have forget something else?

Cause i'm using only one bex query, i know that the SetDatabaseLogon()-method should bring me the same result as the ApplyLogOnInfo()-method SAP Crystal Reports .NET API Guide
Exists an order which i have to follow? First setting parameter and then set the login informations or backwards? Cause i also get the "Failed to load database information" exception, when i set a parameter and TestConnectivity() returns false.
Do i have to activate the data refresh manually or will be the data refreshed automatically on export?

There is a SAP Integration Kit you need to allow CR to connect to SAP data sources. There isn't one for CR for VS 2010 and I don't believe there are the various extra options available in the SDK, no SDK access to the DB driver.
Possibly, Check the other post, download and run the app Ludek suggested, it will get the connection info for your report using RAS and then plug the output code into your code and see if that works. It should show the crdb_olap dll is the database driver, assuming that is the connection method you used when designing the report.
Pay attention to the database dll in the output from that app and verify it is on your PC in: C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\Crystal Reports for .NET Framework 4.0\Common\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\win32_x86
If that doesn't work then.....
The problem is, CR for VS 2010 ( version 13 ) is the runtime for BOE 4.0 ( version 14 ) which includes the Integration kit drivers on install. There is no standalone install of the database drivers. They are installed with CR 2011, which doesn't have a SDK included, CR for VS 2010 is also the Developer version for CR 2011.
Because of the "custom" connection requirements there is no SDK or access to the BW datasource extra options....
Also note that CR 2008 is not supported in VS 2010, it should work though as long as you stick to 2.0 -> 3.5 framework, no 4.0 Framework support in CR 2008 or BOE 4.0
You may want to try the SAP Integration Kit forum to see if anyone has been able to make this work or contact your account manager to verify if there are any plans to do what you are doing....

How to propagate the changes made in Essbase outline to Planning

I have created a userdefined dimension called 'Product' with one member 'SampleProduct' in planning. I logged into essbase and accessed the outline created for the plan type. In the outline, under product dimension, I have created one more member called 'ChanduProduct' and saved the outline. what should I do to see the new member created in essbase outline in Planning application?
Similarly I changed the density of Product dimension from sparse to dense in essbase. How can I propagate this change to planning application? Please tell me whether we can do this operation or not. If yes, how to do?

Hi Chandu,
the outline of planning is stored in sql repository.
when you refresh the planning application using manage database in administration; all changes from planning will propagate to essbase.
you should not make changes in essbase outline.
all changes in outline should go through planning web application (this is one of the best practices)

Unable to Obtain a Connection to Hyperion Essbase from Planning Application

Dear All,
I have installed FDM+Foundation+HFM+Essbase+Planning 11.1.1.3 (Tomcat)
I have stacked with the following problem:
when I try to open my data form, I am getting
“Unable to obtain a connection to Hyperion Essbase. If this problem persists, please contact your administrator”
Validate Database Connection & Validate Essbase Connection are successful throw Manage Data Source menu
Essbase user has admin privileges
In EAS console I can make myself sure, that my application is running
Data Form is valid (verified in Preview screen in Data Form wizard)
Can somebody help me with it?

Summary
Symptoms
When attempting to connect to Hyperion Planning as the admin user, the following error occurs:
Unable to obtain a connection to Hyperion Essbase. If the problem persists, please contact your administrator'
Cause
Hyperion Planning web accesses the application by making a connection to the Planning metadata in the relational repository (via Relational repository settings) and also to Essbase via the datasource settings.
Any Essbase connection issues indicate problems with the Essbase settings in the datasource or are related to the Essbase server.
Solution
- Edit the datasource via the Configuration Utility.
- Test the Essbase connection and make sure that the user used to make the connection is valid and has admin rights to Essbase.
- Restart the Hyperion Planning service once the Essbase user has been given the correct access rights.
- Login to the Essbase Administration Services (EAS) console and right click on the Essbase server name node -> Refresh security from Shared Services
- Expand the applications node (under the Essbase server name node) and check that there is an application with exactly the same name as the Planning application.
Note: Go to section 'manually recreating a Planning application in Hyperion Essbase, if the Planning application is missing in the above step.
- Login to the application in Hyperion Planning web.
Manually recreating a Planning application in Essbase:
- Login to the EAS console as admin (the Essbase user used by admin must have Essbase administrator rights)
- Go to Essbase servers -> your Essbase server name -> right click on applications -> Create application -> Using Block Storage and enter the exact Hyperion Planning Application name then click on ok.
Note: The above step will only create the application shell without the databases.
- Login to the application in Hyperion Planning web as admin and go to Administration menu -> Manage Database -> select database and filters (to create filter access to Essbase) and Refresh (refresh will also recreate the databases if they don't exist)
