Writing a background .... (Posted under wrong topic, moved to CLDC/MIDP)

I am trying to write a background J2ME application which listens on a socket and writes the received data on to a file. I want this application to do both these things silently. I tried push registry but it interrupts the current application when data arrives on the registered socket. Is there any other way to do this in J2ME?
EDIT: Sorry posted under the wrong topic. Moving it ot CLDC and MIDP topic.

MIDP 2.0 does not support background application, you could expect this in MIDP 3.0 devices..

    Hi,
    I don't know exactly what you've done or where you've been in the process, here are a couple of items that might help.  If not, and you have any more specifics of what's been happening, post back to see if someone can help.
    Here is an HP document about Updating Windows 8 to 8.1 to check to make sure you're not missing anything when you're updating.
    And here is a set of instructions from Microsoft to Update to Windows 8.1 from Windows 8.
    If you still have issues, perhaps the exact error message would help.
    Thanks,

  • Posted in wrong topic: Powerbook G4 will not turn on- many failed solutions

    I'll preface this with my computers background: It is a 4.5 year old PBG4 running OSX. I used it in school for various projects, photoshop, illustrator, etc. For the past year or so it has basically been used for photos, internet, and basic nothings. I had trouble with the start up a while back and ever since I get really nervous turning it off so I rarely do.
    Tonight, I was closing down my windows and one folder window would not close. I left it for quite a while and it was stuck. So I forced it down and attempted to re-start. That was 4 hours ago. Still no start up Earlier in the evening I noticed another strange and possible related error. When my power cord would loosen up the power would drain down to 30 or so minutes and the screen would go black. If I wiggled the cord and touched the mouse pad it would come back on. This has never happen before.
    So I've been on this computer researching possible resolutions. I've tried to start on safe mode (holding down Shift), I've tried control + s, control + v, I have also done optioncommand+pr to reset the pram. I have booted off of the install disk and ran the quick hardware check with no problems found and then restarted. I am currently running the extended hardware test (and going to bed). I have tried to boot off of the start up disk but it only takes me to the install window and this is where I have stopped. I've searched around and haven't found an answer as to what installing OSx will do. Will it erase what I have saved and start clean?
    I was ironically browsing Black Friday adds just a few hours before this happened and thinking maybe I should get an external hard drive to back my saved .docs, photos, old projects on just incase something like this were to happen!
    Oh and a visual of what is happening-- I press power hear a chime with a black screen, a few seconds and the fans start up and the screen turns grey. If I wait a minute or so the screen goes black again and then returns to the grey screen. A few more seconds go by and the broken folder and question mark start to flash. If I have the install disk in and wait another minute or so it will finally catch the disk and start to read it. When I power it down I hold the power button for 10 seconds (I read to do that somewhere tonight) and I even tried to hold it down while starting it which causes it to make an unpleasant loud beep.
    I hope someone out there can help with the information I have provided. I should also say (from reading other posts) that this is the correct start up disk. I only have one Mac so no disks to get confused with and I bought it directly from Mac- I am the first and only user/owner of this PBG4.
    Lastly, I should mention that I have no idea what any of the above tricks, solutions, or methods mean- I simply followed directions for my symptoms.
    Thanks!
    EDIT:
    One attempted solution:
    I followed your instructions- Disc Utility -> Click on the hard drive -> Run First Aid. The response to first aid is:
    "Verify permissions for 'Mac OS X Install Disc 1'
    Error: No valid packages
    Permissions verification complete"
    I don't know why is says that as the hard drive is selected not the disk.
    When I check the info button it says "S.M.A.R.T. Status: Not Supported"
    Just to clarify that what I am selecting is correct it is a little hard drive image with text reading "4.0 MATSHITADVE-R UJ-845E"
    Thanks for your help! My fingers are crossed that we can pull through this one! I'll do whatever I need to to after it's back on to make sure I don't lose anything!

    First, to boot off the install disk, are you holding the C key down as you boot? If not, a boot would take you to the install process.
    It sounds like your hard drive has died. However, with the news that your dog helped give it flight across the room, it's _very remotely_ possible that the connector to the hard drive was loosened (It's tough to get the connector off when you're replacing the hard drive, so this is very unlikely). If you want to examine that possibility, use these instructions: http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Mac/ Click on your system, then click on hard drive or hard drive replacement. Have yogurt cups, bowls, or an ice cube tray handy to keep track of the screws removed from each step. If the hard drive connector is on solid, you might want to just leave everything there, and get a new hard drive.
    You'd want to get a 2.5" parallel ATA hard drive (not a serial ATA or SATA drive, as it won't work). Two sources I've used are http://www.newegg.com and http://www.macsales.com . Seagates come with a 5 year warranty while others are 1 to 3 years. Hitachi and Seagates are popular choices with Western Digital also used. I personally wouldn't get a Toshiba drive, however, others are using them.

  • When posting, please post a new topic if you don't have an answer!

    Occasionally you may be tempted to add your voice to a chorus of complaints. Unfortunately, if what you are here for is to get assistance for a problem which you can't find an answer for, trailing an existing thread with a second complaint, is usually considered bad form. It has been given the nickname of "threadjacking." Instead, when you don't have an answer, and are seeking an answer, start a new topic by clicking on the Discussions header links of the board below the big bold text "Apple Discussions" to locate the board most appropriate for your question. Once you have found the board appropriate for your question, above the posts on the upper left should be a "Post a New Topic" link. Use that link to create your own topic. If that link is not there, you have probably already entered another thread, and if that is the case, use the link Batch to Topic List link to return to where you can Post a New Topic.
    Here are the advantages to not threadjacking:
    1. You will get a much wider audience of possible experts to help you out.
    2. The original poster of the thread will not get advice that does not pertain to their situation, and you won't get advice that doesn't pertain to your situation. You wouldn't want either you or the other person to get the wrong advice and try something which could make them get more in a hole.
    3. The experienced users with this situation won't get confused who they are offering advice to and give the wrong advice to the wrong person.
    Thank you!

    You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions. To do this, click here and pick a method; if that page doesn't list one for your country or you're unable to call, fill out and submit this form.

  • Why can't I post a new topic in the Leopard discussions.

    The option is available in other Apple discussions, but for some reason it's not an option for me in the Leopard area.
    I just want to ask a simple question about why Firefox is now launching every time I restart my computer, but don't want to do so in a discussion about Final Cut or iLife or any of the other forums where posting a new topic is an option because that would be bad etiquette. At the same time, I'm not given much of an option.

    Hi dddnlb!
    "Why can't I post a new topic in the Leopard discussions."
    The info posted below is also available in the Announcement How to Post a New Topic
    If you have a Technical question about Apple Hardware, Programs, Services, Technology, Software, Applications, Products, etc, from this page Discussions - Forum Home, select an appropriate Category from one of the sixteen divisions.
    For example, under Mac OS X Related Software, choose the Category Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard.
    On the page that opens, select a Forum, such as Installation & Setup, or Using Mac OS X Leopard.
    Most Category pages, have numerous Forums within them.
    But some may have only one, two, or three.
    For example, the Safari Category page, has three choices listed under Forum / Category:
    Safari For Windows
    Safari for Mac Support forum
    Safari 4 (Beta).
    And the Apple Remote Desktop Category, has only one Apple Remote Desktop Forum.
    From a Category page, select an appropriate Forum to post in.
    On Forum pages, there is an option to Post New Topic.
    More info here How Is Discussions Content Organized?.
    Edit: I have requested that a Host, relocate your Topic to a more appropriate Forum.
    As it will be transferred, it is not necessary for you to repost elsewhere, at this time.

  • Background image under a list

    Hello!
    I need to view a background image under a list.
    I've done this for a panel overriding the paint method but for a list it doesn't go.
    Can someone help me?
    Thanks

    I believe that my code is right..
    I extends List component and override the paint method.
    First, I draw the image, then I call the super method.
    Then, in a main method I add the list to a panel.
    Where I'm wrong?
    import java.awt.Graphics;
    import java.awt.Image;
    import java.awt.List;
    import java.awt.Toolkit;
    public class ListBg extends List{
         private static final long serialVersionUID = 1L;
         Image image;
         public ListBg(){
              super();
              Toolkit toolkit = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit();
         image = toolkit.getImage("C:/Programmi/image.jpg");
         public void print(Graphics g){
              g.drawImage(image,0,0,this);
              super.print(g);

  • BUG: background image under Linux

    Hi,
    This is actually two bugs...
    1) When you select a background image under Linux (I'm using CentOS, 100% comatable with Red Hed), and set it to Stretch, the image gets mangled. Probably a byte allaignment problem.
    2) When you change the background image with the Position set to Center from the program, LabVIEW often simply disapears. This doesn't happen when the Position is set to Tile, I haven't tried Stretch, because of point 1). It doesn't always happen, it seems to be related to the window origin. The error log says something like "DWarn ... picture Width and Height not matching". I'll try to attach the report, but it's on another system.
    I only tested with 3 similar pictures (png's). It might not happen with all pictures, although the used pictures are not special in any way.
    Regards,
    Wiebe.

    Hi Wiebe,
    Thanks for your post! Would it be possible to post screenshots of what you have pointed out in 1). Would it be possible to post the error log file for point 2) as well as a step-by-step instructions on how to reproduce this? Once I have this, I will be able to submit this to R&D for further investigation. Thanks so much for your help in making LabVIEW a better product!

  • RH8 HTML - WebHelp: Topic link in TOC goes to wrong topic

    I just got my upgrade to RH8 today, and I must say it has NOT been a pleasant experience so far. This issue is just one of many I will probably be posting in the next few days.
    I have one RH file that I use to create two versions of help text, using conditional tags to separate out the content. In RH 7 this has worked very well. After my upgrade to RH8 today, I generated each of these files, and discovered that one of the files has the incorrect topic attached to the link in the TOC. I checked the TOC in RH, and everything is fine. I also checked the breadcrumbs, which show the correct location, and I checked the conditional tags and conditional build expressions, but still the wrong topic is displayed.
    Has the way conditional tags worked changed in any way? I haven't changed anything in the files today, just opened them in RH8. My conditional build expression is created so that if the tag exists on the topic, it is included in the generated help, but there are many topics that include two conditional tags. These seem to be the ones that have the issues.
    On top of this, if I am in help A and I search for a topic that is in help B, it still shows me topics that should only be included in help B.
    Seriously. Can all this get messed up simply by opening my help file in RH8? On my first day using it? What other unpleasant surprises do I have in store? Well, other than that nasty looking search results box with the big numbered rank column I can't get rid of.
    Kari

    Well, I've discovered a solution to this initial problem, and it has nothing to do with the conditional tags. I think I'll have to start a new discussion to get a resolution to why those don't seem to be working correctly.
    After trying a number of things, I stumbled upon the fix, which is, as I've come to expect, completely illogical.
    In reviewing the html for the help topic that wasn't appearing correctly, I noticed that the topic was associated with a template called "Main". I inherited this help project, and have never used the templates, always relying on a .css file to handle the styles and formatting. If I went into the topic properties and changed the template to "none", then re-generated the project, the topic link in the TOC went to the correct file.
    One problem solved, though why it works is still beyond me. Now on to the conditional build issue!

  • Can't post a new topic

    I have been trying to post a new topic without success. First, under the discussions there is no such topic I want to place mine under. I then proceed to do a search under "clock" under which I can find a button to place my new topic.
    Basically I want to place a topic about if someone know any software/hardware on "Biometric punch clock" for the Mac.

    Hi Angel!
    Here is some additional info.
    If you have a question, or suggestion, about using Discussions, from this page Feedback about Discussions, click on Post New Topic.
    If you have a Technical question about Apple Hardware, Programs, Services, Technology, Software, Applications, Products, etc, from this page Discussions - Forum Home, select an appropriate Category from one of the sixteen divisions.
    For example, under Mac OS X Related Software, choose the Category Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger.
    On the page that opens, select a Forum, such as Installation & Setup, or Using Mac OS X Tiger.
    Most Category pages, have numerous Forums within them.
    But some may have only one, two, or three.
    For example the Safari Category page has four choices listed under Forum / Category, but only two of them, are Forums:
    Safari For Windows
    Safari for Mac Support forum.
    And the Apple Remote Desktop Category, has only one Apple Remote Desktop Forum.
    On Forum pages, there is an option to Post New Topic.
    More info here How Is Discussions Content Organized.
    It can be confusing, but explore the different areas, and you will acquire a better understanding of the hierarchy.

  • Back to Tiger (yes I know, another post on the topic)

    I know there are lots of posts on the topic of reverting back to Tiger but I've got a quick one; can I reinstall Tiger from the boot up disc that came with my Mac originally?
    CS3 really doesn't like Leopard even with Adobes' patch. It crashes, has system errors and corrupted files are doing my nut!

    For me it's been just the opposite, some annoying, but very minor, problems with CS3 cleared up when I installed Leopard. Under Leopard this has been my most trouble free Adobe experience ever and I go back to Illustrator 88 (Photoshop didn't exist back then). And I've done every update with no problem.
    My guess, without having more info, is that you don't have enough free disk space and you are using your main hard drive as the scratch disk. You should have 10-20% free disk space for Leopard to run correctly and you should have a drive dedicated as a scratch disk. Do not do a partition on you hard drive, a scratch disk on the same disk offers no benefit, add a firewire or USB2 drive with about 30 GB for the scratch disk. If it's big enough you can use most of the disk for Time Machine, or a clone if that's how you are doing it, and just have a small percentage as the scratch.
    This is most important for Photoshop, but Illustrator uses a scratch disk too. Since adding a firewire 30 GB dedicated scratch disk all Adobe apps, and even the whole system, are much more stable.

    The "Roman" font is not being recognized in Firefox 4.0. As such, I cannot read any previously posted topics or post any new topics on websites using this font.

    I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
    When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
    At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
    I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.
