Writing transient data into a spreadsheet file in Windows XP

Hi,
I need to be able to save the data of 13 seperate properties in a spread sheet.  I need to capture transient data and store it in a spreadsheet or something for analysis.  I want to be able to create a new file everytime I capture the data, name the file, and I want to specify how long it should be capturing the data (maybe a time limit or start and stop buttons).
By the way, I have been trying to learn through examples in my LabVIEW 2009 Student Edition manual and the one example I tried was having problems working with my current laptop, which is running Windows XP.  The error message told me that I couldn't write "?" and things like that. I think it is a Windows XP thing. I'm not sure. I can post the message if I need to.
Can someone please help me out?  If someone could create an example I could work off of, I would greatly appreciate it!  Thanks!!

Thanks for pointing out those examples.  I have looked through someof them, but I am totally lost.  For one example, I don't now what do do with my loops.  I want the continuous loop to display data but I don't know if I need another loop to stop and start the file writing.  I included my VI so you guys can take a look.
If someone could help me a bit more, like modifying my VI and sending it back to me so I can see what I am doing wrong, you guys would be a big help!  Thanks again!

  • Writing String Data into a table

    Hi,
    I am facing a problem in writing the data into table. Below is its description:
    1. I have created a code which reads the URLs from  OPC.server.
    2. I need to display it in a table. Since the number of URLs are known, I have defined the rows of the Table.
    3. But am not able to display those URLs in the Table.
    This problem can be simply put as to "how to write string datatype to the table". can property node be used and if yes, which property can be used??
    I am still  a beginner in this....so would like help from all of fellow LabVIEWers out there
    Thanks & Regards,

    I assume you get the URLs as Strings and read it in a loop.
    Let the output autoindex on the loop-out, r-click and create indicator.
    That'll give you an array of strings that'll fill and show once the loop has completed.

  • How do I store 4 hours of data and get it out of the "while loop" into a spreadsheet file for documenting purposes? "See additional Text for additonal info"

    What a have is a VI that uses the following SUbvi's, starts with FP OpenVI, then FP Create TagVI, into a "While Loop" which contains a FP ReadVI outputting data into a Index ArrayVI outputting to a Display (DBL). This shows the output of a FP-AI-100 monitoring a 9v battery. I have to monitor this battery for a 4 hour period my problem is storing the 4 hours of data and getting it out of the "while loop" into a "Write to Spreadsheet File VI" all I seem to accomplish is just one data sample which I get into a spreed ship file with no problem. I just can't get 4 hours worth. By the way this is my first VI and I'm self
    trained so have mercy.

    I figured it out thanks.

  • How to writing the data into the file at the same frequency of data acquisition using myRIO

    Hi everyone,
    I have a question regarding data acquisition fequency and data recording frequency of myRIO. Hope you guys can help me out.
    Basically, I want to acquire voltage input at analog input 0 at the frequency of 1kHz and then write the data into a file (tdms format).
    However, I always found there were only 55 or 56 data points recorded every second in the data file (see the excel sheet).
    To confirm my data acquisition was performed at the correct frequency, I added a small function in the main loop to indicate the time spent between two acquisition events.
    To my surprise, the period of data acquistion is correct (1ms or 1kHz) but there are only 55 or 56 data point per second recorded in the data file.
    How can I record every data point acquired by the analog input?
    Thank you!
    P.S. I am very new to myRIO. How can I manually set the system time for myRIO? The default time of my myRIO is wrong.
    Best,
    Tengyang

  • Uploading data into a fixed length file

    hello experts,
    I got  a task to upload data into a fixed length positional file from internal table.So  please help me.
    regards,
    sriram.

    Hi there.  What you basically need to do is set up the path and name for the export file, move your records to an output table, and then transfer the data to the file that you have specified.  We usually set up our export programs so that the user can choose to download the file locally or onto the application server.  So first we define the following fields on the selection screen:
    PARAMETERS: p_file(128) LOWER CASE OBLIGATORY. "File
    *path name from system standard
    PARAMETERS: p_path LIKE rlgrap-filename MODIF ID fpn.  "Path Name
    PARAMETERS: p_local AS CHECKBOX.  "Local File Flag
    Then we use this to set the path to the application server:
    INITIALIZATION.
      CALL FUNCTION 'FILE_GET_NAME'
        EXPORTING
          logical_filename = 'Z_AO_HR_UP_LOAD'
          parameter_1      = space
        IMPORTING
          emergency_flag   = lw_emergency_flag
          file_name        = p_path
        EXCEPTIONS
          file_not_found   = 1
          OTHERS           = 2.
    AT SELECTION-SCREEN OUTPUT.
    make path name display only
      LOOP AT SCREEN.
        CHECK screen-group1 = 'FPN'.
        screen-input = 0.                  "Output (Display) only
        MODIFY SCREEN.
      ENDLOOP.
    After your START-OF-SELECTION statement, you need to open the file for output:
      IF p_local NE ztc_on.
    Get Path/file Name using logical filename.
          CALL FUNCTION 'FILE_GET_NAME'
        EXPORTING
          logical_filename = 'Z_AO_HR_UP_LOAD'
          parameter_1      = p_file
        IMPORTING
          emergency_flag   = lw_emergency_flag
          file_name        = p_path
        EXCEPTIONS
          file_not_found   = 1
          OTHERS           = 2.
        IF sy-subrc <> 0.
          w_message = 'No Output file - Missing Logical File Z_AO_HR_UP_LOAD'.
          WRITE: / w_message.
          IF sy-batch = 'X'.               "Is this in a job?
            NEW-PAGE.
            PERFORM end_of_selection.
            MESSAGE e000(38) WITH w_message. "This causes the job to cancel
          ELSE.
            MESSAGE i000(38) WITH w_message.
          ENDIF.
          w_stop = 'X'.
          STOP.
        ENDIF.
    *Check if output file is already present.
        OPEN DATASET p_path FOR INPUT IN TEXT MODE.
        IF sy-subrc EQ 0.
          CLOSE DATASET p_path.
          WRITE: 'Output Data file already present ', p_path.
    *Use the following for logging error message
          CONCATENATE 'Ouput Data file already present ' p_path INTO
                       w_message.
          IF sy-batch = ztc_on.            "Is this in a job?
            NEW-PAGE.
            PERFORM end_of_selection.
            MESSAGE e000(38) WITH w_message. "This causes the job to cancel
          ELSE.
            MESSAGE i000(38) WITH w_message.
          ENDIF.
          w_stop = 'X'.
          STOP.
        ENDIF.
        OPEN DATASET p_path FOR OUTPUT IN TEXT MODE.
        IF sy-subrc <> 0.
          WRITE: 'Unable to open output dataset - ', p_path.
    *Use the following for logging error message
          CONCATENATE 'Unable to open output dataset - ' p_path INTO
                       w_message.
          IF sy-batch = ztc_on.            "Is this in a job?
            NEW-PAGE.
            PERFORM end_of_selection.
            MESSAGE e000(38) WITH w_message. "This causes the job to cancel
          ELSE.
            MESSAGE i000(38) WITH w_message.
          ENDIF.
          w_stop = 'X'.
          STOP.
        ENDIF.
      ENDIF.
    Next you perform all of the steps to put your data in the internal table. After the end of selection we then transfer the data from the original internal table (which has many separate fields defined) to a second internal table, t_outfile, in which each record has a single field that is the total length of the original itab record:
    *Internal table for Output data
    DATA : BEGIN OF t_outfile OCCURS 0,
             text(1000).
    DATA : END OF t_outfile.
    Then you can download your file, checking whether it goes to a local drive or the application server:
      IF p_local EQ ztc_on.
          CALL FUNCTION 'WS_DOWNLOAD'
        EXPORTING
          filename                = p_file
        TABLES
          data_tab                = t_outfile
        EXCEPTIONS
          file_open_error         = 1
          file_write_error        = 2
          invalid_filesize        = 3
          invalid_table_width     = 4
          invalid_type            = 5
          no_batch                = 6
          unknown_error           = 7
          gui_refuse_filetransfer = 8
          OTHERS                  = 9.
      ELSE.
        LOOP AT t_outfile.
          TRANSFER t_outfile TO p_path.
        ENDLOOP.
      ENDIF.
    Now close your dataset if it is on the application server:
    IF p_local NE ztc_on.
          CLOSE DATASET p_path.
        ENDIF.
    I hope this helps!

  • Download data into a pipe delimited file

    I want to download data from an internal table into a pipe delimited file.
    I plan to use FM: SAP_CONVERT_TO_TEX_FORMAT but the system I am working on is BW 3.1.
    This FM does not exists in BW 3.1
    How can I download data from an internal table into a pipe delimited file?
    Please help,
    Thanks,
    CD

    Please use Search before posting, this has been discussed many times already. Not necessarily as "pipe delimited", but delimiter doesn't really matter here. Here is just one of the recent posts:
    Write internal table to file GUI_DOWNLOAD or TRANSFER?
    Note that all GUI functions only work in the foreground. There are also some solutions in "pure ABAP", like looping through the internal table fields and adding a delimiter. Or a quick and dirty solution - define an internal table with the extra fields for delimiters (mainframe legacy!).
    Also questions specific to BW should be posted in the BW forum IMHO, not in ABAP General. Otherwise you'll get a lot of "valuable" suggestions here...

  • Saving chart data into a spreadsheet and also displaying it onto a table

    I am having a few different problems with this VI.
    My intentions are to display incoming data from the serial port, and view it on a chart as well as the table, then I want to save the data and the time values into a text or excel file.
    Receiving data and charting it is fine but when it comes to displaying it in real time on the table it looks like the Express table seems to be duplicating some of the entries as noted in the block diagram and the regular table keeps updating the values (date/time and value) on the first entry.
    Saving the data using write to spreadsheet file. vi poses some other problems when importing the History files from the Chart. It brings in the values except the date is the default NI date which I correct before going into the loop in order to accurately plot it on the display.
    If I use the Export waveform to spreadsheet file.vi it saves the data in the text file just fine, but if I save it into an excel file the Y values and the time values are all in one column.
    PLEASE Help

    I think if you go to VI properties then go under Windows Size and uncheck the "Maintain proportions of window for different monitor resolutions" you can get it to work.
    If I open your VI in LabVIEW 8.5 or 8.2, the window title bar and menu bar, widow border, and scrollbar are all outside the visible region of my monitor, so I don't have access to anything. The FP even fully covers the task bar (set to autohide) so I cannot even get to the start menu. Even if I move the mouse to the lower screen border, it remains at the LabVIEW cursor. (This might actually be something that needs to be fixed in LabVIEW so it cannot happen!)
    All I can do is ctrl+e to go to the diagram (which looked like a huge mess without a clear indication where I am supposed to look), and thus I quit the program. At least it's nice that you gave my a shiny star, even though I could not help you. Thanks!
    As Dennis said, you need to familiarize yourself with the basics of dataflow. Building a 1D array with two elements and making this into a 1x2 2D array does not magically insert history data. You need to built the 2D array in a shift register or feedback node.

  • Getting the Datatype error data into a table or file

    Hi experts,
    I have a scenario where I need to capture the datatype mismatch records between source & target or the data length error records into a table or file.
    For example.
    1. I have source table column of datatype varchar which is mapped to a target table column of datatype Integer.
    2. I have source table column of datatype varchar2(2000) is mapped to a target table column of datatype varchar2(200).
    I know that while interface execution, if any of the above scenario comes an error occurs respectively and execution stops.
    My question is whether is there anyway to capture those types of records and insert into a table or file. If yes kindly suggest me how to do it.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Siva,
    Use SqlUnload tool to capture error out records in excel file.

  • Does Pr embed any meta data into the finished (exported) files?

    I'm worried that it embeds my name, username or something like that into the finished movie files intended for distribution/playback. Is this the case?
    If not, does it embed any kind of meta data? Perhaps that it was made with Premiere? Photoshop seems to add that to every file.

    Many formats do not support MetaData, so depending on your chosen format, it is probably not even possible. Then, even where it is, such as WMV's and DRM, PrPro will not do that without direct input from you, and might not even be able to do that, if you wished.
    Good luck,

    @ Joe,

  • How do I save my new data into a new .xls file? i am running my VI in a continious mode

    I am using a Data Acquisition Board to get my pressure and displacement signals. Have to measure it continiously. I am able to save the data continiously but not in new XLS file for new experiment. If any of you could hepl me with it

    This depends upon how you are writing it to file. If you are using the "Export Waveforms to Spreadsheet File" VI, then you can actually just open this file with Excel and you will see all of the data fine. That's the easiest way to do it. If you are wanting to write to Excel directly, you can use ActiveX calls to do this. If you choose the latter, I would suggest purchasing the Report Generation for Microsoft Office Toolset for LabVIEW. It provides VIs which write your data directly to Excel files.
