WRT110 vs. WRT54G2 - which one is right for me?

WRT110 is the speedbooster of the old WRT54GS, whereas WRT54G2 is the new WRT54G (no speedbooster). Our current home network exists just to enable all computers to have internet access, we do not do any file sharing between computers. Considering that, is there any reason to go with the speedbooster over the non-speedbooster version? Which one is more stable/reliable of the two (less dropped connections, random slowdowns, etc)?

Hey, thanks for the help but that is not our issue. We just don't share files from computer to computer, we just use the router to give all computers internet access.

  • 3 Different Backups; Which one is right?

    Hello everyone,
I have a question about backup systems. I looked around the forums and saw a couple that were almost the same question but weren't, so I am going to ask mine. I am not sure if my questions make a difference with the answers though.
I just bought a Lenovo G560. As you know, it came with OneKey which is the button on the key board. It also has Windows Backup (Windows 7). But, I also went out and bought a portable backup hard drive (Hitachi) that came with its own backup software.
So my question is which one do I use??? I will explain what I want to do, then my thoughts on each option, and I am hoping someone here could give me solid advice. I already had a system crash once and lost everything, so I don't want to start over again.
(What I would like to do)
I would like to have two different types of back up completed to my external hard drive:
    1. Would be a system image of everything as it is on my laptop. In case of a major failure, I can simply start fresh from the last backup image and (for the most part) not skip a beat. This backup would probably be done once every two weeks or maybe once a month.
    2. I would also like to have a traditional backup of everything in my personal folder which would basically be just my files i.e. pictures, music, documents, etc. This way in case I delete 1 or 2 files by accident I can go into my external hard drive and pull those files back over. This backup would probably be done 1 to 2 times a week.
    (My Thoughts)
OneKey: I like the idea of the OneKey software because that function is built into the laptop with a dedicated button. But from what I saw so far, this software can't be set up to do both types of backup at the same time. But, I might be wrong on this...
Windows: A part of me thinks I should let Windows conduct its own backup because Windows should know what Windows need to run in case of a major failure, and this would be the easiest for me. From what I have read, Windows can do two different types of backup at one time, but it is vvvvveeeeerrrrryyyy slow, and a lot of times the second scheduled backup will attempt to start before the first one is finished which causes major problems.
Hitachi: The external hard drive came with its own backup software installed that it uses to manage backups. This one requires you to install yet another program onto the laptop (which is on top of the 2 already there OneKey & Windows). It seems simple enough to use, but I am not sure if it can do two different types of backup.
A part of me thinks if I were to use OneKey or Windows I could basically format the external hard drive and then I will have a completely empty drive for backups since I would get rid of the pre installed software.
Or, I could be completely wrong on all three of these, and need to use some other backup software to do what I want.
I need to tell you that I am thinking of playing with a kernel of Linux that would be installed in a separate area on my laptop. I would like for the backup software to be able to include this in its backups (just the image type) since I am not planning on moving any personal information/files over to that OS just yet. Once I find a version of Linux I like, I would probably switch to that for full time use. So I think that would be important in the selection process of backup software.
I know this is a big question, but I am hoping someone here can point me in the right direction. I am not very familiar with backup software. I had another external hard drive once before, but that one only did the My Documents folder, and there was a couple times I had to start fresh with Windows because I didn't have a system image. So I am hoping to not go through that again.
Thanks for all of your thoughts.

    gigrosser, welcome to the forum,
If I understand your intentions correctly I think your first priority is to create a set of recovery discs as suggested by yigit, a good reason for this will become clear later.
As you are going to be playing with Linux you will need an imaging software which is capable of creating a base image and incremental images of the complete hard drive including the boot sectors, I personally don't see either One Key or Windows Backup being the optimal tools for achieving this.
    As I don't know which software came supplied with your Hitachi drive, I'm can't rule it out as being a suitable tool for the job which I would approach as follows;
Once you have created recovery discs and installed your suitable imaging software you also need to be sure you create rescue media for the imaging software in order to be able to access your image backups should they be required.
Assuming you have your hard drive configured with Linux et al you should then create a base image with the imaging software to your external hard drive. After it's completed add a "test folder" to your desktop and then shut the system down.
Now's the time to test your image and rescue media by simply restoring the image you have just created; if the "test folder" isn't there it's worked, if it's still there something hasn't worked and needs a re-think.  Worst case and absolutely nothing works is the time to use the recovery discs you created to set your system back to factory and start reconsidering the whole concept again That's why the recovery discs are important.
Assuming that everything ran successfully it's time to add a few files, 500MB should suffice, in order to run an incremental image backup and of course to recover to that incremental backup. If everything works you have the first part of your problem solved.
Now to the second part; there's a windows tool which seems to have got a bit forgotten over the years, have you considered using windows Briefcase?  Just search Windows help to find out all about how it could help you.
However the second part may be superfluous; - "in case I delete 1 or 2 files by accident" - I don't know how much data you're going to be adding / changing / deleting on a daily basis, but running incremental image backups shouldn't normally take very long, you'll find out the answer to this when running your tests.  A good imaging software will allow you to extract single files from any backup you have made which in effect negates the requirement for a second solution.
Hope I've explained my thoughts clearly enough, if not let me know.
Edit; to answer "which one is right?" is maybe none, maybe all - the right one is the one that works even if it's the fifth choice
    Regards

  • Different Temperatures - which one is right?

I have started trying Core Temp as a replacement to CoreCenter. The thing is Core Temp gives temperatures 2-3C below what CoreCenter shows, which I dont't mind too much. Anyway, when I run Stress CPU the temp deference increases, as shown here.
    http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k276/seven_of_nine13/temps.jpg
Any ideas why this 7C difference (sometimes more) happens and which one is right? System temperature is showing right as I have other temp probes floating about. Spec below, except I now have a FX-55 (ClawHammer). Got it free :D

Quote from: qyx on 28-November-06, 15:10:10
I don't understand how core temps could drop 5 degrees c. while temp of surrounding area remains the same.  Same loads, volts etc. as before I changed case fans (4x80 mm now and 2x120 before) and case (aluminium now, steel before).
That's what I'm wondering. I know my temps have been higher with the FX-55, but still doesn't explain how the core can be cooler. As for overall temps I'm planing on lapping the CPU and heatsink over the Christmas holidays (exams have to be done first     ), as I think the heat spreader on the CPU is a little higher around the edges.

You could try ringing apple and seeing if they will give you a model number for the battery and then find one on google. Or you may even be able to order one from apple themselves.
They have support numbers for all over the world, in case you don't have the number you need, this is the support number website with all the numbers all over the world:

Why do you need a expensive MacBook Pro?
Your attending high school and unless everyone else is rich also your likely going to be a target by the more poorer students for theft or damage to the machine.
You could keep it home, but if you need it for class then your exposed again.
Also at that age your not very careful yet, a MacBook Pro is a expensive and easily damaged machine.
Unless your made of money and so are others at your school, I would recommned a low profile, just does the job cheap Windows PC.
If it dies, gets lost, stolen or damaged because of your inexperince handling senstivie electronics then it's no big deal.
You can buy a Mac later on when your sure you have a need for it, currently there isn't much advantage of owning a Mac compared to a PC, they do just about the same things now, one just looks prettier than the other.
Since 95% of the world uses Windows PC's your going to have to install Windows on the Mac in order to keep your skills up there or be unemployed, so it's a extra headache and expense.
    good luck

You have a 13" Early or Mid 2009 MacBook. Either one can run OS X Mavericks with enough RAM, 2 GB minimum. But first you will need to update to OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8 so that you have the Mac App Store installed on your MacBook
    Buy this from apple;
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    Then download and update with this update combo;
OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8 v1.1 update combo

After this you will have the Mac App Store on your MacBook and you should be able to download and install OS X Mavericks for free!
    Your MacBook must meet these minimum tech specs to run Mavericks;

I will use Barclays Card for 18 month free interest.
I wil ask Apple clerk to avoid LG monitor.
I will buy those in Apple store.
    Which one will you recommend?

Tha's something you need to decide for yourself.
Do you think you need 16GB of memory or 8 will be enough?
Do you need to carry your macbook around with you more often? if so just get the 13" it's easier to carry.
Or maybe you enjoy watching media on a bigger screen?
As for word processing it shouldn't be a problem on both notebooks.
Also can you afford buying the 15"?
And what about the hard drive capacity?
So my advice is to consider these aspects, make a list of pros and cons and see what you come up with

The 4.1 version for 3 gs is the best one .
as far  as 5.1 its considerably slows the 3gs and 4.3.3 has known issues like  wifi signal dropping and battery drain. so you must stay on  ios 4.1 for your 3gs.

  • How Do I Decide Which MacBook is Right For Me?

I am currently a high school senior and I have always had my heart set on a MacBook and my oldest sister has offered to buy me one for my graduation present.
My only problem is I am not too sure which one is the best for me. I know MacBooks in general, regaurdless of model, are all great quality, but I really want something that I can keep around for a few years to get me through whatever schooling I choose to go through and still have with me after. I am also a beauty blogger so I do a lot of typing and use the internet as if it were an extension of my body. I also upload lots of product photos from my camera to use on my blog and occasional editing is needed, but nothing to the extent that I have to use Photoshop or other advanced programs, only minor editing basics are used.
I know that I do want something fast for web surfing and something with enough room to store all of my music, pictures, and programs comfortably without an external hard drive. Portablitity is also a key feature, but I feel like both the Air and the Pro seem portable enough for my purposes, so it is still a toss-up. A cd/dvd drive would be a nice feature, but I am not too sure how often I would actually use it as I tend to store my music on my iPod and phone as opposed to on CDs. I also don't feel the need for a huge screen since I do want it to be portable, I have been looking into the 11in - 13in range.
Right now I am currently comparing the 13in. 2.5GHz MacBook Pro, 13in. MacBook Air, and the 11in. 1.7GHz MacBook Air. Even though this is coming as a gift to me, I still want to get the most bang for the buck, but if it sounds like I only need 64GB of storage, then I would have no problem going with the $999.00 MacBook Air.
But in the grande scheem of things, I just don't understand how much storage and speed would be best for me based on my usage.
Any suggestions on what model you think would fit me the best?

They pretty much explain themselves. The MacBook Air is for those who want a portable yet powerful Mac, where as the MacBook Pro is for those who want more power than the MacBook Air for gaming and photo editing and reliablity as they can last for plenty of years with good treatment, the one thing they lack is portability.
For just a blogger and student, a MacBook Air 13inch would be best as it's just the right size and power. As a blogger you'll need to take it where ever you go and I'm sure you're not going to use it for heavy impact gaming and large photo editing or video editing. If you are, then get the MacBook Pro.

I will not qualify it as best. Best depends on your requirement. 2008 r2 is much cheaper than SS2012 and SS2014. First make sure what all features you need in your new environment. Please read below link for features supported by various editions of SQL

  • Updates Confusion: Which ones to select for HP Notebook-15-r249tu

I regularly update my system, Windows is not an issue, however HP updates seem to be a problem. For example when I tried to update the graphic driver from Intel, it shows that my system has a customized driver and should be updates from the manufacturer site only. I have tried to get updates using the HP support assistant, but every time it shows "no updates". I then tried the HP website to get updated and it shows a list of related updates, but the problem is they all have the same/similar file name and description. I don’t have a clue as to which ones to download.  SO my questions are: 1) IF the HP support assistant does not show any updates then is it right or should I try other source? 2) Are the updates on HP website just a list of all necessary drivers and software or are they updates to already installed drives/software’s? 3) How to know which to download from the list? Find the list here: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-15-Notebook-PC-series/7486447/model/7748033

Depending on which wireless adapter is in your model, one of these should fix the problem.Broadcom Wireless LAN Driver -  sp68506.exe Qualcomm Atheros AR9000 Series Wireless LAN Drive - sp68427.exe If neither of those help and this is a result of converting the laptop to Windows 7 from Windows 8, then possibly the chipset drivers from THIS PAGE will be needed, also.

    2.XI (totally new for me)
    3.WAS (totally new for me)
4.ABAP (have worked for a month)
i just have one month time to prepare for any one of those certifications. can anyone suggest me which one should i opt for, or should i wait for some more time & then attend a cetification test. ??? please respond asap taking in consideration about the technology & the 1 month time
    -rajesh

    Hi Rajesh,
As you have said, you have only one month experience in ABAP. But, if you have atleast 1 year experience in JAVA or J2EE applications then i would suggest to you to go for WAS certification. Course name is
"Development Consultant SAP NetWeaver´04 - Web Application Development Focus JAVA "
You can clear this certification, if you will take training for the same in banglore.
