WRT1900AC - NAS Administration issues...

I just installed the WRT1900AC to replace a failed E3000.  I lived with the E3000 for years as Linksys gradually improved the software support for usb connected NAS drives and have the drive (A 1TB Western Digital USB drive) connected and successfully mapped on a Win 7 X64 computer.  Unfortuately, I have always had "permission issues" with the previous setup, due in part to the networked host computers I use to access it.  I have two Windows XP dinosaurs in my basement and a Vista Business desktop, as well as my "main" Win 7 (X64) computer.  When I had permission issues in the past, I would periodically connect the drive dricetly to one of the WinXP computers and reset "full permission" to "Everyone" on the whole drive.
Once again, now that I have the drive mapped, the folders on it are all viewed by the Router as "Read Only" so I can't do anything.  I have my Windows devices all set up with the same users and in the past have shared files freely within my network, but always avoided saving stuff to the drive from anything but Win XP, the lowest common denominator in order to assure that I could get at them from everywhere.
Now I would like to be able to continue to access everything from XP in at least "read" mode, but I would like to be able to give at least one Windows user administrative access to everything on the NAS including the ability to create and delete folders and move files around.  I know how to do that if the drive is "Local" to one of my computers, but I have no clue how to set things up with an already existing file system on the new WRT1900AC.  Suggestions, simple steps to take, etc. would be greatly appreciated.
Note that I do not fully understand what the WRT1900AC means by turning on "folder access" but I fear that if I do that there will be little or no chance of using WinXP or possibly the Vista machine to create and manipulate files on the NAS.
One of my key objectives is to reinstate unattended Backup from software running on each of my four computers in a way that assures me that I can restore from a backup to a different host if I need to.  Another is managing a fairly extensive and growing libarary of digital photos and video produced by my collection of cameras and phones.
Solved!
Go to Solution.

The permission per user can be edited using the Linksys Smart WiFi.
By turning ON the folder access, you can specify the folder accessible per specific user. Say for example, you have folders 1 & 2 and you have users 1 & 2. You can set permission that User1 can only view files in folder 1 while User2 both view and edit files in both folders.
You can add as many users as you can access the shared drive. This link for sure is helpful, http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=5752a2a259ae464f8b85bc673faf7bb9_Configuring_share...
You can then press Windows + R on the keyboard and type \\192.168.1.1 (or double back slashes and the IP of the router). The computer will ask the user to input the username and the password that you specified in the router to access the shared drive. This should applicable through different Windows OS versions.

  • Can't preview RAW files in Bridge CC, administrator issue?

Can't preview RAW files in Bridge CC.
When i try to upate Bridge, it says:
Bridge is unable to check for updates, cause it can't connect to the internet or user is logged in as a non-administrative user.
So then i have to log in as a administrative user to the Bridge...and update..
    Can't it be done easier???
I must also say i have also Bridge CS6 installed on pc and there everything is working fine.
    Thx.

1/ Adobe Bridge should be possible to open without administrator issue.
By default it does, something seems wrong with your install
2/the images DO appear first for 2 or 3 seconds , then it turns to a RAW file icon.
Again indicating a wrong install, you see the embedded jpeg previews briefly but then the Raw thumbs should be build. When you see the generic Raw icon this means you don't have the correct version of the ACR plug in installed to match your camera or no converter at all.
    Try this page:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
3/i only succeed in openening Bridge descently , so with ableing to see RAW files , WHEN i go to c:/progamfiles/Adobe/AdobeBridhecc/Bridge.exe
When, If i copy the exe file for opening Bridge CC and i put it on the Desktop, it DOES NOT Preview the RAW files.
Here you have lost me. As a Mac user I'm afraid I don't know nor understand anything about .exe, I download the .dmg file for an application which then automatically opens and I just click on the install icon, provide admin password and serial number once and then start using it without bothering about install ever again

  • NAM 4.6 with NAS agent issues

    Dear Faisal and pros,
I have installed and configured NAM HA at HQ and NAS in 3 more locations in OOB VG mode.Everything was fine and running. Last day due to power failure, one of the edge router lost its power then back came up.But both the NAM HA pair and all other branch NAS were not brought down during the power shut down. After that, the clients in few branches are not connected to the NAC so we manually bypass the users by uncontrolled them in PROFILE and change the vlan from auth to access on the same profile page. What is the cause for this issue to be resolved.
Please help me to resolve this issue.
    Sami

I expalin it bit more clear to make you understand.
HQ site with HA CAM pair and HA CAS pair configured and there are 6 branches where single CAS installed. The mode being used is OOB VG with SSO single sign-on.Three branches out of 6 using NME-NAC-K9 module 2821 router.
    Problem Des:
Last day there was an power outage due to that the connectivity between CAM pair and other branch CAS were lost then after the power come up,the users in 3 branches are not able to connect (Login) to the network through the NAC agent. The connectivity between NAM and NAC module
is up. Also in other branch out of 200 users, some users are able to connect and others are not.
What is the issue to resolve this problem.
In the client laptop we are getting error "the NAC server is not available and contact administrator. There are connectivity between NAM and CAS.

  • Workflow Administrator issue

    Hi,
    ebs 11.5.8
We successfully cloned from prod to dev. DEV been up for ~1 month.
We now have an issue with the Workflow.
I log in as sysadmin -> system administrator responsibility then workflow -> Global Preferences
In the html page that opens it says "Only the Workflow Administrators can edit Default settings."
I tried with Workflow Administrator -> Global Preferences but same results.
I check for profile (System Administrator -> Profile -> System : %workflow%) but found nothing that would indicate who is the admin of the workflow.
I think this is due to autoconfig, setting the default value for the workflow administrator.
How can I find who is the owner and change it?
    Thank you~

  • After upgrade to Lion, iMovie 11 won't recognize my ReadyNas disk.  Anyone else experiencing application NAS connectivity issues after upgrading to Lion?

I have a ReadyNas NV+ which I use as NAS storage.  I make a lot of home movies in iMovie 11 (mostly family movies of my daughter growing up) which fills up my local HDD fairly quickly.  I setup iMovie 11 when I was using Snow Leopard to connect to my NAS as an additional disk in the event library and project.  I would move events and projects after I finalized and shared them to the NAS disk in iMovie so it would both clear up space on my local HDD but still be available in the iMovie 11 application.
After I upgraded to Lion, I can no longer see the NAS disk in either the project library or event library.  I'm concerned if I have created a condition where I won't be able to access the projects and events which I moved to the NAS disk when I upgraded to Lion.  Has anyone else experienced this issue and has anyone else found a solution to this?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did that work for you?  I was looking at that too, but was discouraged by having to use a sparsebundle given Snow Leopard had such great NAS support.
FYI to everyone else, I upgraded my ReadyNAS firmware to 4.1.8.  NetGear indicated the following updates with the nre firmware, but it didn't fix this problem:
         New features and enhancements
         1. Added support for Mac OS X 10.7 “Lion”.
         2. Added warning when NFS access to home shares is enabled.
         3. Added a redirect for http://<host>/ip to https.
         4. Added enhancements to advanced AFP permission settings.
         5. Provide download links for exported users and groups instead of asking for email.
         6. Updated ReadyNAS Remote to the latest revision.
         Bug fixes
         1. Fixed javascript error in FrontView.
         2. Delay auto power-off if backup jobs are still queued.
         Limitations
         1. IE 6 no longer supported.
         2. Drives greater than 2TB are not supported.
I found this link which I thought had some useful information: http://carryflag.blogspot.com/2010/06/imovie-event-library-on-network-drive.html
Some people reported success with the terminal command:
defaults write -app iMovie allowNV -bool true
But apparantly, after the Lion update, fewer people reported success with it.  Still looking though... If anyone else has more symptoms to add, please let me know.  I might try to use a sniffer program and see if I can pull a packet capture.  That might reveal some info....
On another note, has anyone had any problems connecting to their Time Capsule in the same fashion?  I had an idea of connecting a USB Raid Array to it and connecting through the TC, but wanted to know if anyone had any thoughts or experience with that....  Thanks.

  • Domain Administration issues

I am one of two Apple System Administrators for our company. We recently received a few new Macbook Pros, and upgraded them to Leopard. When setting up the macbooks, we created admin accounts, and then created individual accounts by setting up the Active Directory in Directory Utility.
The issue we are experiencing is when we are on the network at work, it recognizes our domain privileges just fine. OS X will let me install, remove programs, perform administrative tasks. However, when I/we take our macbooks home for the night and get onto our home networks, the administrator authentication does not store locally in the computer. I have to perform installation/etc. tasks by authentication with the admin username/passowrd. This isn't a problem for me personally because as I am an Administrator; however, for those who are not system admins, they do not know the system admin u/n & p/w. Is anyone else experiencing this?
Let me know if you require additional info.

  • NAS Finder issue after sleep

    Hi,
Something strange has started happening with both my NAS boxes (Drobo/Synology).  When I boot my iMac both devices are available in the finder, and clicking on them will show the relevant shares.  For some reason when my Mac goes to sleep and then wakes up the NAS names in the finder have changed to lower case, when you select them I get a connection error.
The only thing I can do to fix it, is re-boot the Mac.  Anyone have any ideas why this should be happening.    I have recently switched my router from a netgear one to a BT Home Hub, so I'm suspecting that's the issue, but I'm not sure why?

    Ciao Von Stripes,
    I've just found the solution:
Open - System Preferences, then open - Spotlight
There is a list of categories.
Find - Files on the list, then click, drag and drop to the position number 1 and "voilá"
I hope it works for you too...

    Hi BinghamTheMan,
This message is shown by Ai if a prvious version of Ai is uninstalled after installing the current version. Ai tries to see if file association and required registry settings for executing vb scripting are correct or not on every launch and gives you an option to correct it and for that Admin privilege is required.
Have you tried running with Admin privilege to fix these registry issues.

  • WRT610N NAS NTFS issue for deleting directory

    Dear all,
I got one issue with the WRT610N and the NAS feature. This is really a nightmare. I have been looking everywhere, I found people with the same issue but never find any solution.
I am running Vista on a laptop connected to the WRT610N via the 802.11n link but the issue is not here.
I have a hard drive of 40GB (but same issue exist with another drive of 500GB) plug to the USB port. I can read all file without any issue. I can also add file without any problem. The problem come when I try to delete some directory. In this case I got the an 0x8007045D Error indicating that I need to have the right permission for doing this. However I do not have any issue in deleting files. In case I delete all files from a directory I can't delete the directory without the error. I map the drive to the windows explorer with the admin account which give read and write access.
Without this fix the NAS feature can only be used in read only!
Could you let me know if you had the same issue? If you solve this could you post the way to fix it? or maybe am i doing something wrong?
Your help will be very appreciatated.
    Regards,
PS: I am also running the latest firmware (v1.00.02 B10). The problem was also present with previous software.

I have been in contact with the on-line linksys support last week-end. They said that I should have a feedback of the issue by e-mail. I received the e-mail today from lynksys UK support. They asked for more details of the issue and then I just provided them more details of the issue including screenshots. I hope this will be fixed otherwise the NAS feature is just useless for me. I use the NAS for automatic backup which synchronizes files and therefore delete directories when they have been delated in the source. I got similar issue when using iTunes from MP3 database. I guess that the application try sometime to create directories when adding photo album to MP3 database. So basically a non reliable NAS is just useless. I found the WRT610N very attractive in terms of features, i.e. everything I need in single box but very disappointed of the various issue I had on the router regarding the DLNA issue, at least with the previous firmware.
Having the hard drive in FAT32 instead of NTFS is also not a good option. It took 8 hours to copy about 400 GB of data on my western digital 2.5" (500 GB drive) when the drive is format as NTFS and attached to my PC. When using  FAT32 it took 5 to 5 days! FAT32 is very old and not reliable format (no journal file). NTFS is said as supported in other linksys product so I guess that it shoud be possible to have it on this prodcut. It sure that for a long time NTFS support on linux was not always easy for write access but I think that things have changed since that time. In case NTFS would not be possible they should provide other reliable and fast drive format such as Linux EXT2/EXT3 formant. However, I tried those format and it do not work. That is quite strange since this is a native linux format and the router is probably running on linux system.
For your information, I also had some disk corruption when I did some delation of files/directory with a FAT32 drive. It was less reccurent than NTFS but still not reliable. However I did not try the latest firmware with a FAT32 drive.
I will let you know when I will have feedback. If anybody has similar issue please just mention it here, at least we and linksys can be aware of the situation. Linksys should also take this opportunity to listen to their customers and enhance their product. I really believe that this product has been put on the market without the proper validation and I am suprise that it takes so many months to have updated firmwares. We can understand that bug could exist, but they should fixe it.

  • Seagate black armor 420 nas permissions issue

    very frustrated.
i have a seagate blackarmor nas 420. i am running a brand new imac, snow leopard 10.6.5. nas is plugged into the switch, and then 4 different imacs (identical setup) access the nas through the finder.
the issue is that if i make a folder on my computer and then drag it onto the nas drive, the other users can't save/work off the files, or rename the folders/files etc. it is giving us the error of insufficient access privelages.
i can rectify the error by setting the permissions on the folders whilst my desktop, and then copying to the nas, but this is not ideal.
i have read a lot about the snow leopard issue, and it seems that this is more of a mac issue than the nas suppliers in many cases.
i am wondering if there will be a fix for this soon, or if there is a way i can rectify this problem.

When you create a folder on YOUR User account the Unix in OS X is setting the permission for YOU only! Try this, make a new folder on your desktop. Then right click and do a 'Get Info' on that folder And in the pop-up click the arrow button to see the "Sharing & Permissions" and make sure you set it so everybody can read/write to it.
The new folder's do this to PROTECT you! This is the nature on Unix.

  • SMB/NAS connection issues

I've read through everything I can find on this issue and there appears to be no solution to SL breaking SMB connections to an NAS. I have a no-name NAS with no password protection at all (and I have no access to change/upgrade the firmware of the NAS). When I try to connect, via CMD-K or in Terminal, I get the same error as everyone else seems to be encountering. The solution to use a password in caps doesn't apply since the NAS isn't password protected. Nor does the port 139 solution or adding to my /etc/hosts file. Does anyone have a working solution, or should I just trash my NAS (with all my vids, music and pics on it) since Apple obviously doesn't want its users to use anything other than a Time Capsule.

Yes they have non-existent tech support, but since this NAS worked fine in 10.4 and 10.5, I don't believe it's a problem with the NAS. It was only after the upgrade to 10.6 that it could no longer connect. Since there's a couple of threads already about SL SMB issues, I definitely don't think i'm alone in having these issues. It's a shame that I have to consider downgrading to an older OS (or have to buy a new NAS) just to get what was previously working, working again. Buying a new NAS isn't really an option for me right now, since the NAS is working fine (all my Windows and other devices connect fine to it, just the MacBook can't anymore). My point of the question was really to see if anyone had a definitive answer or solution to this problem, since the ones i've seen suggested don't seem to solve the problem for everyone.

  • Create a new target application - Secure Store Service administration issues

    Hi,
I am trying to create new target application, when I go to Secure Store Service in Centra admin I have:
Cannot complete this action as the Secure Store Shared Service is not responding. Please contact your administrator.
I have used this few days ago and avarything else is working fine on the server, and I have applications created with it running fine.
    Any help is appreciated.
    cheers
    Valko

I know this has been open and possibly answered for a while but I thought I would mention what I ran into since I haven't found it posted anywhere.
It was confusing because once I clicked the Ssecure Store Service I recieved the message that is mentioned here in this thread. With that, you can't make any changes. After trying numerous things I simply highlighted the Secure Store Service (the Applicaiont
not the Application Proxy) and selected Properties from the Operations section of the ribbon at the top of the page. This opened the properties page where I was able to change the Application Pool that the service was using.
In my case it was using the Sharepoint Web Services Default and changing it to the SecurityTokenServiceApplicationPool, which I had already configured to run on a named account with adequate priveleges (although it should run find on Local or Network
Service if they are configured correctly in IIS) corrected the issue.
    Hope this helps someone...
    Cheers

Incase you want to upgrade ACS, you need to open a TAC case to get the full software.

  • Administration Issue

I am trying to administer 3 PMG4's -quicksilver - I can access them via screen share etc...but cannot drag and drop files or folders not even into the public folders . All sharins turned on etc.
What am I missing/not doing correctly?

Perhaps the shares are read only.
Perhaps a router is blocking the web traffic.
    You could use FTP.
    *Local Lan*
Whether or not you need a cross over cable to connect between two computers depends on the model  of the computers.  Most newer computers  and newer Ethernet hubs automatically detect the the send and receive wires on the Ethernet port so you do not need to use a crossover cable.  Older computers and older Ethernet hubs did not auto-detect, so you need the proper cable. You could use a cross over cable to attach your machine to another computer.
I use pureFTP server.  It comes as part of PureFTPd Manager software download at this site.
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/12630
PureFTPd Manager is the gui program manager for the pureFTP server.
    *Across the internet*
    Try:
PureFTPd Manager. Free. Is the server. It runs on your home computer. I found PureFTP easier to use than the Apple solution in Tiger. The apple solution could have changed.
You would have to contend with these issues:
Enable your Mac firewall to pass ftp traffic.
Do you have a local router? Enable it's firewall. Tell it to pass ftp data to your home mac.
Verify that your isp lets you run an ftp server on your home mac.
