WRT54G3G-ST + Sierra Wireless AC597E issue

I've been experiencing some difficulty with my WRT54G3G-ST router in regards to using a Sierra Wireless AC597E.  Namely the router fails to recognize the card when plugged in.  Everything on the card is still on factory settings, Is there anything particular on the card's setup that needs to be enabled/disabled for the router to recognize it?
The router is using the firmware 2.01.12

Are youusing  the a wired broadband router like cable or dsl at the same time using the mobile broadband card? If so, only one service can be used at a time. If the mobile broadband card is enabled, then the wired connection coming from the cable or dsl modem is automatically disabled.

  • WRT54G3G-AT - Sierra Wireless Aircard 881

I was wondering if the Sierra Wireless Aircard 881 is compatible with the WRT54G3G-AT router.

That is a good question.  The Sierra Wireless Aircard 881 is compatible with the AT&T 3G wireless network, however the current firmware for the WRT54G3G-AT doesn't seem to recognize the card.  The WRT54G3G-AT does recognize and works well with the Aircard 875.  I've been trying to find out from Linksys when they will be releasing a firmware upgrade that will support the 881, but no luck with that question so far.

  • Sierra Wireless EM7345 ThinkPad 8 and 10 general issues

This was posted as a reply to german forum but it was deleted Symptoms (mobile connection is connected)
     1. mobile connection randomly disconnects. It is possible to reconnect again. 2. when resume from Connected standby mode the mobile connection appears to be connected but it is dead. It is not possible to disconnect nor turn off the mobile connection, it is stuck. Windows restart is required to resolve it. 3. when resume from Connected standby mode the EM7345 composite device disappears at all from Device Manager and new unknown device '1 CDC' appears. Windows restart is required to resolve it. Note: Issues 2 and 3 occurs when running on battery only. I don't have any occurence when the tablet was plugged in AC, turned off (into Connected standby mode) and on, yet. I have already tried to reinstall the 1.6.10513.4153 driver, no luck. I have also tried to disable 'USB selective suspend' feature in driver settings and switch off GNSS device (because it has Sierra Wireless driver), no change. I have latest BIOS 1.24 (ThinkPad 8, 64 bit). It is hard to reproduce the case 3 but I have almost reliable steps: 1. uninstall current driver (even it is the latest version)2. restart3. install current 1.6.10513.4153 driver, select Custom Setup, make sure the 'WWAN Logging Tool' is selected, finish the installation4. restart 5. establish mobile connection6. go to Start menu, Intel group, start 'M.2 WWAN Logging Tool'7. press Start Trace button8. turn off the tablet (while the tracing is running) by power button, wait for a minute 9. turn on the tablet(repeat steps 8 and 9 multiple times, in case you can not reproduce it at the first time) EM7345 device disappears with typical unknown 1 CDC device. Yes, it is not a standard operation but it is easily reproducible with the same result. Similar issue is reported in other forum posts for ThinkPad 8 and 10

Old firmware 1.1 that can not be updated to 1.2, read this thread http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T540p-Sierra-WWAN-EM7345-reliability/m-p/1839271#M106663 The 1.2 firmware might help to resolve the issue (although this post states it actually did not help). Technical details When the USB composite device (EM7345 = WWAN + GNSS) disappears it incorrectly identifies itself as VID = 1519, PID = F000 so Windows can not find proper driver for the device and displays it with (?) icon. If you remove the '1 CDC' device from Device Manager and perform 'Scan for hardware changes' this time it is correctly identified as VID = 1199, PID = A001 and installed (these tasks can be automated using devcon.exe command-line tool, so the fix wouldn't require OS restart everytime it occurs. It is still hack, not a solution). It looks like a firmware bug because the USB composite device and WWAN MBIM device uses Microsoft generic driver. Summary Given the price tag of ThinkPad 8 and 10 tablets, Lenovo should fix that because this is basic functionality failure. Disappearing WWAN device that needs full restart is really serious issue. And again, please diagnose and resolve the issue (hint , hint) instead of "try to reinstall this, try to reinstall that, replace this, replace that" advices. It leads to nowhere because the driver/firmware is buggy as it was in the past with Ericsson device. (copy of the post is stored)

  • Sierra Wireless AT&T WWAN issue

Hi - I've got a Lenovo Thinkpad X300 with an OEM Sierra Wireles MC8775 HSDPA card, driver 2.0.9.0, 1/11/2007. It has worked fine except in two instances: first when traveling from the US to Switzerland, upon arrival it "failed to initialize" the device as I tried to run the dialer. This was true despite cold restarts. About a day later it started working, and working consistently, in Switzerland. Upon return to the US exactly the same phenomenon: unable to initialize for about a day. Then, working fine.Lenovo is ready to replace the card, but does anyone know if this is a software or other glitch for which I shouldn't trouble them? Something having to do with switching countries?  (And do I appear to be running the latest firmware/drivers? Firmware is H1_1_9_3MCAP.)
    Thanks,JZ

To follow up for any that come later: the card was replaced, but experienced the same phenomenon in going to the Netherlands and back again to the US.  This time I downloaded and ran the "Sierra Wireless Watcher."  After the wireless radio was turned on it sat at "searching..." for about five minutes, then found the new band.  Once found it sticks, so the regular Lenovo dialer can then be used.  So it's not a hardware problem, and there's a solution.  ...JZ

  • Windows 8.1 Ent. Helix - Sierra Wireless EM7700 device error code 43

    System:
    Helix 3701XXX
    Windows 8.1 Enterprise 64-bit
    Third Apps installed
    Latest Lenovo Drivers installed
    Problem:
Sierra Wireless EM7700 device experiences device code error 43 or not “USB device not recognized.” There are also times where there are two or more instances of the same device in Device Manager.
    When the problem occurs, users are unable to see the mobile broadband device under Network connections menu (Charms menu->Settings->Network Connections). Installed drivers on system: Sierra Wireless QMI Lenovo Driver Package 2.6.1.209.0. Experienced this issue with the Lenovo pre-load image and corporate image. The problem has been reported by 10+ users/systems;
    When it occurs:
The problem is intermittent; it often occurs after waking the system up from sleep or starting the system from a cold boot. As a workaround, the user has to restart the system a couple to several times in order for the device to be recognized.
Wondering if anyone else has been experiencing this on the Helix 3701XXX Windows 8.1 Enterprise? Any advice is appreciated.

I get similar problems with the Ericsson C5621 wireless card.
To be honest, almost every 3G\4G internal card I've experienced (in Dell, Toshiba and now Lenovo) have suffered from the same two problems (when used against UK mobile providers):
    i) issues resuming from sleep - typically the card not responding or not found until doing another sleep\resume or power cycle
ii) issues when moving quickly between cells (e.g. if using the device on a train etc.), when the card will stop transmitting traffic although claims to be connected, and then will become unresponsive attempted a disconnect and reconnect. Again power cycling the card (via sleep\resume, reboot, or occasionally disabling\renabling or uninstalling\reinstalling the driver) will resolve this.
Given that these cards are typically used in mobile devices where sleep\hibernate and being on the move are pretty common scenarios, it is frustrating that the 3G\4G hardware companies still can't get them to work reliable.

    Hi @emma22
I would like to do my best to help, but please bear in mind the issue you are expressing is an inquiry for Microsoft not HP. I did find something I think will be most helpful, and I hope it resolves the issue, but if the issue persists, or you have additional questions, it might be best to reach out to the Microsoft community.
Here is what I found; HomeGroup from start to finish.
In the top right hand corner of the article, you can change it from WIndows 7 to Windows 8. I hope this helps.

  • Sierra Wireless Aircard - not receiving data while connected to the network

    Hello,
Can anyone please help me out here please.
I have a wireless internet connection on the Bigpond 3g network in Australia. It uses the Sierra Wireless Aircard 880U and the Bigpond connection manager software (version 2.10.18) to connect to the internet. This has been running pretty fine since I installed it some 4 months ago.
Now in the last 3 weeks I've been having connection problems, or actually I'm still connected, but data just suddenly stops coming in. The connection manager software states that I'm still connected to the 3g network; and I can see that data is still sent from my mac (the software tracks the data sent and data received); however there's no more data coming in (or very little, as in bytes), and Safari (or any other application like Skype, the widgets or mail) eventually fails (just happened again: "Safari could not open the page “http://discussions.apple.com/post!post.jspa?forumID=1222&reply=false” because the server is not responding" - while I was still connected according to the connection manager).
Also I can't ping anymore. Packets are sent out, but nothing comes back.
Now I've spent the last 3 weeks on the phone with Bigpond support but they can't resolve the problem. We have tried all the resources; including reinstalling the software, de- and reactivating my account, rebooting, removing and reconnecting the device, creating a specific location for the wireless card as to reduce any possible interference from airport, etc. But this hasn't resolved the problem.
The support people are now stating that it is not their device or software that is faulty (as the can see that I'm connected to the network just fine on their side), but something specific to my Mac that is causing the data problem and that I need to contact mac support.
The annoying fact is that the problem is erratic. Usually when I start up my mac in the morning; I can connect and surf the web without a problem, but later in the day, the internet connection will fail. I will restart the mac and bigpond connection manager and sometimes I may be able to get back online, but most of the time there is no more data (or very little data) coming in even though the connection manager tells me I am connected to the network and data is going out and very little coming back in (a few kilobytes at the most). Personally I have the impression that the Bigpond connection manager software is not too stable, but I can't put my finger on it.
Also the connection manger software seems to behave erratic. Sometimes it is connected and I can surf fine, while it states that it is (still) determining the IP adress, other times it will show a valid IP adress but I'm not getting data (or vice versa). Also I've been getting other error messages, like: "unable to initialise the device" and a mac popup message: " a modem error ocurred; cannot negotiate a valid set of ppp...."
    Hopefully theres someone who can give me a hand here based on what I've written. I'm at wits end. Just let me know if I need to supply need more info;
    thanks

I have just discovered another aspect of this issue.
If I have the Macbook connected to my router which is then connected to the Mac Pro but the router is not connected to the internet then PS on the Macbook starts up with no problem.
If the Mac Pro is not connected to the Router then PS will not start up on the Mac Book.
I suspect that this behavour started after I installed 10.5.7 - however as I cannot recollect starting up PS in standalone mode prior to last week before I installed 10.5.7 via the combo package.
    So any clues please

  • Using VZAccess Manager v7 With Sierra Wireless SB555 Embedded Device

We have several Panasonic CF-29 Toughbooks with embedded Sierra Wireless SB555 devices. Up to now we were running VZAccess Manager v6.9 on these laptops without any issues.
For consistency sake we want to upgrade VZAccess Manager in these laptops to v7. From what I could determine VZAccess Manager 7 should work with the SB555 devices. This is where I came across an issue.
After installing VZAccess Manager v7 the Verizon Wireless - VZAccess dial-up networking connection was not created. Trying to connect failed: Connection not available.
I manually created the connection and I was able to connect. The problem is that whenever I use Detect Device VZAccess Manager deletes the connection and a new one is not created.
I have a temporary solution by creating a connection named BACKUP Verizon Wireless - VZAccess and then when needed just duplicate this backup connection and rename it properly. At least that is a solution in the lab.
    This leads to 3 questions:
Is there a way to make VZAccess anager create the connection as it normally should?
When the automatic area coverage updating takes place, does that trigger a Detect Device? If it does not I guess I am safe to believe that the connection will not be deleted in the field.
Is there a way to reduce the time between the coverage area updates so that I can test this in the lab without having to wait days or weeks for it to happen on its own?
    Thanks!

I would recommend uninstalling the current version of VZAM on the PC, and installing the VZAM software from www.vzam.net. I have listed the instructions below on navigating to the software.
Once on the VZAM home page, select supported devices on the red menu located on the left hand side of the screen
Scroll towards the bottom of the page for Laptops with Embedded Verizon Wireless WWAN Module
The 4th selection from the top is labeled “Panasonic Toughbook with global module.” Click on the version number that fits your Windows OS
    Enter your wireless number
Before you download, check the two links below on whether you will need drivers for the WWAN device, or the Toughbook itself. I have listed the link below:
    http://panasonic.com/toughbook/support
    http://www.vzam.net/UploadedFiles/Pan03_RevA_Driver.exe
If you are okay with the drivers, you can proceed to download the VZAM software by clicking the red download now button. Once selected, save the file to your desktop and install the software
***Download version 7.2.9 (2470a) for either Windows XP/Vista or Windows 7
***If step 1 is completed successfully (the drivers installed, the device was found, and the set up completed), the VZAM network connection will be automatically built.
    2.      At the point that the automatic coverage update initiates, it has already detected the device. (If a device is not detected, you will not be able to activate it or update the coverage information.)
    3.      To reduce the amount of time a coverage update can take, you can periodically perform a activation on the device. This can be done by selecting the “options” tab at the top of the VZAM menu, and select “activation”. This process will update the PRL (Preferred Roaming List) and coverage area.
I hope this information was helpful.

  • Sierra Wireless driver for native support for 10.5 displays wrong network

Anyone getting the wrong wireless network with the Sierra Wireless driver for native support in Leopard? Sometimes when my AT&T 881u cannot connect, the mini card starts displaying Verizon information. This only happens once every couple of weeks. AT&T says its Sierra Wireless' problem and Sierra says the issue is Apple's.
I took a picture of the issue with my iPhone. I'll post a link as soon as I get a chance to sync.
This card normally works great, but this issue is really strange since AT&T G3 network shouldn't be compatible with Verizon's EVDO.

That model is included in the hpijs and ESP ghostscript driver set:
    http://www.linuxprinting.org/macosx/hpijs/
When you get that installed, come back with print server model for setup help. Since there isn't auto setup software for OS X, we need to setup all the details.

  • Sierra Wireless USB AirCard Support

I have been evaluating the product for a bit now, and it seems pretty rock solid. I just started testing with some of out cellular broadband devices and have found an issue with one so far. the Sierra Wireless AirCard 875U is not recognized by ESM. It totally ignores and doesn't apply any policy to the adapter. no firewall or otherwize. Is this a known issue?

I get this behavior with a stock install and the default policy. I can attach my policy files if you still feel its relevant.
I think this is a fairly huge issue, and could allow a user to totally circumvent the ZESM client and leave the machine fully vulnerable.
    Can you try the following:
    Create a location called wireless
Select an icon for the location
In Wi-Fi Management click the "Filtered Access Points" tab and enter the SSID of your Wireless AP (it is case sensitive)
    Save and publish the policy.
Does the ZESM client change locations?

  • Is there a fix for the MBP wireless dropping issue?

I began to experience the Macbook Pro dropping wireless connectivity on my very 1st Apple in 2008.  At the end of the day my machine was replaced with a new Macbook Pro mid 2010.  It appeared to be working just fine until about 2-3 months ago when I started dropping my wireless printer connection.  I searched the internet hoping for a driver update from HP or something from Apple and each time I found something, the problem still existed.  I even thought that by upgrading to Lion would resolve any issues that I have with my MBP wireless connectivity issue.  After upgrading to buying a new router, new printer and upgrading to Lion; the wireless dropping issue still remains unresolved!  I know there are several hundred in not thousands of people who are having the same problem so what are we supposed to do?
When my 1st MBP was replaced in 2010 I had to stop working because I was diagnosed with "Failed Back Surgical Syndrome" and was in the process of applying for disability.  Something in the back of my mind said that I needed to purchase Apple Care for this new replacement however I had used all of my savings & retirement to sustain life for me and my family that there was nothing for Apple Care.  If it weren't for my church and family I am not sure what I would do during the 18 months of no income while waiting for a decision only to receive an appeal until I findly stood in front of an Administrative Law Judge who heard my case and granted me disability.  Besides there was no way I could ask anyone for money to purchase a warranty for a top of the line laptop while the country was falling off an economical cliff.
I broke down and called Apple Support and was told that I qualified for technical assistance regarding the upgrade to Lion a few weeks ago.  The tech on the phone had me run some disk utility tests and had me repair permissions which she said could be the cause of the problem.  I willingly went along with her in hopes that this was indeed the fix.  However, within 10 minutes of hanging up the phone my MBP began to drop it's wireless connection to my new HP printer and also the Internet.  Hence my question above is what I am really looking to have answered!  What is the fix to this problem that so many people are having issues with?  I couldn't afford to purchase Apple Care back in 2010 and I can't afford to purchase a new 2011 machine today if that truly is the fix!
I will be disabled for the remainder of my life and I have grown dependent upon my computer to stay in touch with friends and colleges from work.  I worked for the IT Group at Wynn Resorts and I can say that the type of service Appple is providing it's customers is not what I learned over the past 25 years with Mr. Wynn.  Why can't Apple get the simple concept that it's customers are it's life line and keeps them in business.  I need help and I don't know what to do nor where to turn.  It would be different if Apple acknowledged the issue and said they were working on it however they aren't.  I plead to Apple to help me fix my notebook so I can stay connected to the outside world vs. couped up inside my home.
    Best Regards,
    Scott Leavitt

I am simply lookig for some help not an argument.  I am not an RF specialist however have setup a few wireless networks in my tenure at Wynn Resorts.  I fully agree that wireless networking is an art and a science however the powers that be in Network Land have toughted wireless networking is the easiest and quickest way to get two computers to talk with one another.  As I previously said I have already turned one (1) MBP in for this problem and Apple decided to replace it because they could not fix the problem with my particular MBP.  This MBP was running Leopard when the problems started
I am having a hard time believeing that there are several other devicces in my home that depend on a wireless network to operate and my MBP is the only one having an issue.  I took this a step further and decided to see what would happen if I tried to connect wirelessly via Fusion.  In Windows 7 I am able to print and scan to my hearts content without any issues.  I am able to browse the internet as much as I want.  I close Fusion and try to connect to my printer via wireless and nothing.
In order to get Apple to help do I need to get a Network Analyzer and capture packets when I have these problems?  Out of the 1000 + posts is there a consolidation of which answer is the best?  BTW I am accessing the internet via a wireless connection using Fusion and Windows 7.
In response to Linc's comments, I will look at the router specifications however I did not qualify that these devices are not using the wireless connection at the same time.  Right now I would guess there are maybe two (2) or three (3) at the most that are actively transmitting / receiving information. --  Thanks

Check for new 64 bit software for the modem, other wise you I'll probably have to boot your Mac in 32 bit mode first.. And then every time you want to go online.
I have the Sierra wireless 306 and have their 64 bit lion software installed. Works well.

  • Wireless connecion issues using a macbook

    Hi,
RE: Wireless connecion issues using a macbook
After doing some google searches, I have come to understand that there is a bug with OSX power management when running on battery which impacts the wireless connection of the macbook, though Apple geniuses are unaware of any such issue. Please see: http://kristopherjohnson.blogspot.com/2006/08/macbook-wireless-connection-drops. html and type in "macbook wireless connection problems" in google for many other discussions on this issue.
For all those who are having wireless connection issues with a macbook:
Plug in the macbook to use mains power (not the battery) to verify that you are impacted by the same bug (I even find sometime unable to connect to the router when on battery so have resorted to starting the machine with mains power plugged in). If that is the problem then here is a work around (taken from above blog):
Open the terminal window and type in the following command: ping -i 5 google.com
(this will ping the google domain every 5 seconds and maintain the wireless activity thus a connection).
I am surprised that Apple are not acknowledging this well known and widely reported bug and fixing the issue. In my case, I dont mind plugging the machine into mains most of the time and that has resolved the problem, otherwise I hope the above pinging works for you.
I discovered the workaround after ditching my old DLink router (though it had done its time) and buying an Airport extreme (£120), a trip to the Apple store (40 miles drive), trying several different people's machine on my network (frustration) and finally google to rescue, more specifically Kristopher Johnson's blog.
NOTE: My macbook worked fine in the Apple store while on battery power which was frustrating but apparently the problem only arises when connecting to consumer grade networks and not commercial ones, which I dont understand technically.
