WS 2012R2 RDS Host Periodically Connection Issues

Hi all.
I have the next infrastracture:
1. DC on WS2008
2. New RDS Host on WS2012R2. Connection Broker and Licensing Server installed on same server.
Sometimes (about every 10 days) connection issues occurs. Users try to login, pass authentication successfully, then they "freeze" when settings must apply. The same time logged users can work without any problem, after some time they get black
screen, but server manager shows the sessions like active. I can connect via telnet to RDP-port, it looks like OK.
I solve the issue rebooting RDS Host till now.
In event viewer I see that user group policy doesn't apply since the issue occurs.
When we used WS2008 as Terminal Servers there was not the problem.
Any ideas?

  • RD-WebApps and GW 2012r2 Multiple Hosted Desktop Farms issue

I have an issue where we have two Farms talking to the same broker/WebApp/GW server.  Each farm is broken into it's own session collection and defined by using DNS Round-Robin. This works perfectly on the inside, balancing and Session Broker are great,
however I'm having issues extending this to the outside.
    1. When I launch the Web-App Desktop icon, the Server name is incorrect (used the internal FQDN of the GW-Broker server.  I was able to find a script that changes that, however the script changes both of them.  Which doesn't help me, thoughts here?
    2. When I launch the RD connection I get a certificate error that states it's connecting to the .local name of the RDS server.  I have replaced using WMI the RDP Listener certificate on all my servers, so I'm getting a certificate mis-match.
Again, this is not an issue on the inside.  Thoughts here?
    3. I have a basic question about DNS Round-Robin.  In my experience DNS Round-Robin is not a method for redundancy, if site 1 is looked up and resolved but it's not responding (for whatever reason), how does it decide to go on to site 2?
I can really say I like the way this new RDS works for 2012r2, however there are still some missing puzzle pieces, some of it may be experience, but I've spent quite a bit of time researching this issue without result.
    Thank you,
    Blaze T. Lewis

    Hi,
In Server 2012 R2 you normally configure things so that users make their initial connection to the broker(s) and then they are redirected to the appropriate RDSH or Win7/Win8 VM.  The broker(s) handle the initial connections for multiple different collections
(old name Farms).  In order for this to function the client sends the broker information about the target collection when it makes this initial connection.
For example, say you have 2 different collections, each with 3 RDSH servers.  On collection A you have an ERP application published as a RemoteApp and on collection B you have Excel published as a RemoteApp.  Domain Users group has access
to both collections.  When a user logs on to RDWeb, they will see the ERP and Excel icons.  Each icon represents a separate .rdp file that contains a loadbalanceinfo cookie with the required plugin and collection alias that
is used by the broker to figure out which collection is the intended target.  When a user clicks on a RemoteApp this information is sent to the broker by the remote desktop client.
The above explains why you are able to use a single published FQDN for the broker(s) to handle multiple collections (or Farms if you want to use the old terminology).
You may have multiple connection brokers in a HA configuration pointing to a HA sql server.  In this case you need to use NLB, hardware load balancers, or DNS RR to balance the incoming connections to the brokers.  If you choose to use DNS
RR the downside is that if one of the brokers fails you need to manually remove the corresponding DNS A record of the downed server so that users are not sent to the failed broker.

  • Hosts having connection issue, 2504 controller

    Hello,
We have a Cisco 2504 controller and approximately 35 AP's.
Some of the AP's are located directly above each other (on another floor).
When I run a basic annalyzer, it appears that there is some adjacent AP traffic, the controller has some of the close AP's with the same channel, so there is some RF interferance.
The AP's currently are all setup for "G" and majority of the AP's are 1200 series, most of them are 1242's.
Should and can the AP's be set with static channels so that there is no adjacent signals?
If so where in the controller can that be done?
Any help would be truly appreciated, we are a school with an iPad program, so the amount of connects is quite high as well as the availability to have internet acces.
Thank you for anytype of help you can provide.
    jim

If you don't want the WLC to control the RF using RRM, you can manually set each ap and its radio statically. On the wireless tab, click on either 802.11an or 802.11bgn and the all the way to the right of the ap, there is a blue triangle. Hover the mouse over that and click configure, there you can set the channel and power leave for that radio on that ap. You will have to do each radio and ap. Hope this helps.

  • Server 2012R2- RDS Farm Certificate Miss-Match on Session Hosts

    Hi Guys,
I've another RDS2012R2 issue. Internal and external domains do not match. External: domain.com.au; Internal: domain.com.net.
I'm getting certificate miss-match errors when connecting to the Farm/RemoteApps.
I have performed the follow fixes:
Change published FQDN for Server 2012 or 2012 R2 RDS Deployment (http://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/Change-published-FQDN-for-2a029b80). This resolved the original issue where I was getting a certificate miss-match error externally
for the FQDN of the server.
Updated the RDP-Tcp certificate used on the Session Host Servers. This was to resolve an issue where using mstsc to RDP to the farm externally(via gateway) would give a Certificate is not trusted error on the RDSH side.
Now whenever RDWeb is used to launch a RemoteApp or the farm, I get a certificate miss match error as the RDSH server is called RDS1-TCC.domain.com.net and the certificate is for remote.domain.com.au.
I rolled back the last change so that RemoteApps and the Farm would work successfully internally without certificate issues. How do I go about resolving the certificate errors?
For extra background details see my orignal thread, It was marked as answered when only 1 out of 2 issues was resolved. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/b664ddaf-6c11-49e2-8a69-0df3b8ef13a1/server-2012r2-rds-farm-with-xp-and-windows-vista-clients?forum=winserverTS
    Cheers,
    Ben

    Hi Ben,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
In your case, I can suggest you to check that the certificate must match the FQDN of the server. If you are creating SSL certificate then it must be signed by trusted authority and also the certificate must be stored under “local computer/personal store“.
Also you can buy the certificate from 3rd party which is wild card certificate and only 1 certificate can be used for your network. Please check below links for more information regarding certificate issue.

  • Windows Server 2012R2 RDS sound and smartcard redirection issues

We are using RDS collection with two Windows Server 2012R2 session hosts. Both hosts are virtual servers (clean installation) and are used as session hosts (terminals) with 10 to 25 users each.  RDS Connection Broker is also virtual machine with
Windows Server 2012 R2. Our users are using Windows 7 Embedded thin clients with MSTSC RDP 8.0.
Our terminals are running correctly after fresh boot, but in 12 to 48 hours after boot we encounter problem with sound and smardcards redirection in RDP. Remote sound stops working and users cannot login with their smardcards.
Relogging users doesnt help, deleting profiles doesnt help, restarting sound service doesnt help, only viable way to solve issue is server restart. There is not any event in event log about this issue.

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
    Sound Redirection:
Please check the following GP setting as well.
    Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Device and Resource Redirection
    Limit audio playback quality: Enabled
    Audio Quality: High
On the Client PC, in the .rdp file that you use to connect to the server, make sure you have the following line:
    audioqualitymode:i:2
In addition check that the Windows Audio and Windows Audio Endpoint Builder services must be running for audio to work.
    Smartcard redirection:
Kindly try to update the patch for Smartcard redirection and check the result.
Smart card redirection in remote sessions fails in a Windows 7 SP1-based RDP 8.1 client

  • I want to connect to a fixed RDS host in a broker collection as a user

    Hi,
i have a broker collection with 2 RDS Hosts
    TS01
    TS02
    Collection: FARM
Now i need to connect allway with a user to a fixed host (TS02).
    is there a solution
with die parameter /admin on mstsc the broker distribution is switched off
However, this only works with an admin user.
    Best regards
    Thomas

    Hi Thomas,
All RDSH servers that are part of the same collection are intended to have identical applications installed and be able to serve any user that has permission to use the collection.  If you need regular users to connect to a specific server then
that server would need to be in a separate collection.

  • Accessing RDS Host servers via RDP that are behind a connection broker

Hello!  I've noticed this behavior where I can no longer RDP to the RDS Host I want after it's been added to the connection broker (by server name or IP).  The connection broker load balances me to any available rds host rather than the one i
need to get to.  Is there a trick to allow direct access to a host for administration?

    Hi,
Please use the /admin command line switch when you need to administer a specific RDSH that is part of a collection, like this:
    mstsc /admin
    Thanks.

    Hi,
As the log, MSGR2CZ.DLL and wwlib.dll were both of the Microsoft libraries, not the third-party libraries. Thus, we need to analysis what happened with the dump file. But, it is beyond what we can do in the forum. I recommend you open a ticket with Microsoft
    engineer.

  • Windows 2012R2 RDS - Outlook 2013 preview handler not working

    Hello,
We have an Windows 2012R2 RDS environment with Outlook 2013 installed. Currently we are experiencing some issues with the preview handler for non-administrator users. With an Administrator account it is working without issues.
All users that open WORD, EXCEL, POWERPOINT or other office applications see the following error:
This file cannot be previewed because of an error with the following previewer:
    Word/Excel/Powerpoint
To open this file in its own program, double-click it.
Other programs like Windows Media Player (voicemail messages), Image viewer, Notepad are working.
Any idea what we can do to make this work?
    Thanks.
    Max

    Hi Max,
    Thanks for your information.
After doing some research, this behavior might be related a DCOM permission. I suggest checking this point:
    1. Go to Component Services and Open it.
    2. Expand Component Services, click on Computers, then right click on My Computer and go to “properties".
    3. Click on Default Properties tab, and make sure the following is set:
    Default Authentication Level: Connect
    Default Impersonation Level: Identify
If it’s a permission issue, we can use process monitor to get the logs.
    [Process Monitor Report]
    =================
Process Monitor is an advanced monitoring tool for Windows that shows real-time file system, Registry and process/thread activity.
To collect the process monitor, please refer to the following steps.
    a) On the machine which we will reproduce the issue, download Process Monitor from the following link:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx
    b) Extract the ZIP file, start Outlook in safe mode, stop all other applications and operation in Outlook, then run Processmon.exe
    c) While Process Monitor is running, click the microscope icon in the toolbar to stop the capture (CTRL+E) and clear the initial logs (CTRL+X).
    d) In Outlook, reproduce the issue by click the “Copy to my Calendar”, then start the capture (CTRL+E).
    e) Save (File -> Save ) the Process Monitor log and upload the log file (Logfile.PML) to me.
You can send the log file to this email account:

  • Troubleshoot connectivity issues Outlook Anywhere - Exchange 2013

    Hi there,
As part of our Exchange 2010 -> 2013 migration we've transitioned CAS to Exchange 2013 2 weeks ago. Some 50 mailboxes have been moved to exchange 2013. Moving mailboxes for everyone is scheduled the 2nd week of july . Because our current version of Outlook
is 2007 (migration to 2013 is due thissummer) we've configured NTLM authentication for OA.
    Exchange setup: 8 Multirole (CAS/MBX) virtual (VMware) Servers: each 4 cores, 24 Gb memory (reserved) : Windows 2012 SP1, Exchange 2013 SP1 (15.0.847.4030)
Right now we're facing client connectivity issue's: Outlook Anywhere clients are continiously losing connection with exchange, some people (outllook 2007/exc. 2007) report every minute or worse.... Moving the mailboxes of affected people results in
less problems: Sometimes no disconnects for 10 to 30 minutes, then reconnects every minute for some time.
We've already set the timeout for the oa-pool in our network proxy (riverbed steelapp) to 20 minutes and the minimum keep alive on the 2013 servers to 120 seconds which improved Oultook 2013 clients; before I experienced reconnects every minute, after every
10 to 30 minutes (with periods of reconnects every minute)
testconnectivity.microsoft.com gives positive results (apart from a nspi warning about server side encryption)
    testing with rpcping according to
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2008/06/20/3405633.aspx gives some interesting results:
I've tested all (8) CAS 2013 servers over ports 6001, 6002 and 6003; each 100 rpcpings with a for loop: every response was either about 500 ms or about 21 Seconds ?!?
How can we furher troubleshoot the reason of the long reply time. Eventlogs (and SCOM with exchange 2013 MP) show no relevant events or alerts.

We've changed a timeout setting in the Steelapp virtual server (old: 10 sec; new: disabled) the connections between Outlook and Exchange are, when established, very stable (almost no failed request anymore)
However there still existst a conectivity issue:
The 8 Exchange 2013 servers are placed in 2 different Active Directory sites (4 servers in each site) and I have found that a cross site rpcping consequently takes more than 20 seconds (with the loadbalancer bypassed ! !) where a rpcping on the

The same tests with our Exchange 2010 CAS and MBX (NO multirole) shows fast (300 ms.) with every combination. The servers are both on the same networks in each site
We've already started talking with the network guy's: There should be no rules between both networks.
OWA, Autodiscover, EAS all work fine.
How or where to troubleshoot this slow response between two AD site's ??

  • HP PhotoSmart 7510 suddenly has severe connectivity issues

I have a HP PhotoSmart 7510 printer since about 2 months. Initial setup worked like a charm and the printer has been working pretty much perfectly for the last 2 months. Wireless printing, scanning and internet access on the printer (e.g. for Facebook photos) all worked. Just from time to time i would get the occasional (mildly annoying) message on my computer saying "scan to computer is currently unavailable" but it usually worked itself out and whenever I needed it to work, it did work.
But since a few days ago, it has some severe connectivity issues. I didn't change any settings on the printer, router or computer - the issues just started appearing by themselves. I startet getting much more frequent messages on my computer saying "scan to computer is currently unavailable". I noticed I couldn't print anymore, and restarting computer, printer and/or router didn't help at all. The only thing so far i managed to print wirelessly since the problems started were the first 5 pixel rows of an image I tried to print, the rest didn't transmit.
It seems the printer still connects to the WLAN but printing and scanning no longer work, and whenever I try to access a web service on the printer (like Facebook) it says it has no internet connection, even though the WLAN light is lit up (not blinking) and all the wireless status reports say "congratulations, no problems found" and display IPs etc. just like normal.
I looked at the threads "PhotoSmart 7510 connects to router, but not to the web.", "Wireless printer (HP Photosmart 7510) not connecting to network" and "Photosmart 7510 won't connect to Web Services" but they weren't a big help. Activating EWS didn't work because even though the printer showed its IP address to be 192.168.1.3, when I entered this in my web browser it didn't find the printers configuration page.
I tried the following steps from one of the threads:
    1. Restore the Network defaults
    2. Unplug the printers power cord while it is still on. Leave it unplugged and walk to the router.
    3. While the router is still on, unplug the power cord from the router, leave it unplugged for 30 seconds, then reconnect the power cord to the router. Once plugged back in the router should power on automatically.
    4. Plug the power cord back into the printer. Once plugged back in the printer should power on automatically.
    5. Run the Wireless Setup Wizard to reconnect the printer to your wireless network.
    6. Try enabling Web Services.
I followed these steps exactly. Interestingly, even though I had done step 1 and restored the network settings to factory defaults, after turning back on, the printer somehow still had its old settings saved and reconnected to the network.
It seemed to have fixed the problem, the printer finally had internet access again (Facebook app showed my photos) and scan to computer found my PC. But after just about 3 minutes, the printer had lost its internet connectivity again. When opening the Facebook app, it displayed the same error message it did before. And printing no longer worked as well.
So, what is wrong with this printer?! It has the newest software update by the way (I checked during the 3 minutes it had internet access.) My computer is a HP Windows 7 x64 machine (EliteBook 6930p) and the router I'm using is a Netgear WNDR3700.
I specifically bought this printer for my studies at university. In one week i have my exams and in order to study I REALLY need to be able to print some of my course materials! So any help as quickly as possible would be greatly appreciated. Or do you think this is a case for a warranty replacement, considering the printer's really strange and error-prone behavior?
    Thanks a lot!

I can assure you that it is not a router issue.  It appears to me that it is a driver compatibility with Windows OS.  After trying to get to the bottom of this since my Photosmart 7525 was new and reading just about every forum and blog, I have come to the conclusion that the issue must be related to the HP driver itself.
The issue does not seem to affect any Mac systems, and from one forum someone was able to fix it by downloading new drivers compatible with 64-bit systems (which seem to not be affected by the glitch).  But that leaves us 32-bit people stuck with the current driver which does not work.
The printer is connected with good signal to the wireless router (no matter who's router it is and what configuration is made).  The printer can be pinged from the router and any computer on the network which is not currently being affected by this issue.  However, the affected computer fails pings by either request timed out, or destination host unreachable.  Pings are successful from the affected computer to any other device on the network.  The only way to recover (at least for a few days) is to reboot the affected computer.
Also, from the display on the 7525, the network tests pass without issue.  I can also download and print content from the internet with no issues.
Please do a quick google search of this issue and you will see several THOUSAND entries of people with the same request.  This is a serious issue that people are having and everything is pointing to an HP problem (not routers, improper installation of software or drivers, etc...).  I agree with several other customers that HP should be on the hook for this fix.  I will give it another couple weeks, then back to the store for a reliable unit from another competitor (Canon, Lexmark, etc..)
Thank you in advance for escalating this issue to product engineering,
    S. Hunn

  • My MacBook Air has recently started having substantial WiFi connectivity issues. How do I fix this?

For the last couple weeks my MacBook Air has started having some mighty substantial connectivity issues.
When I wake it from sleep, or if I'm using it for an extended period (say, more than 5-10 minutes), the connection will become extremely unreliable. This primarily happens with browsers, or the Twitter application. For example, if I start a call on Skype the call will continue to function just fine, but I won't be able to connect to any websites through any browser. I've tried Safari, Chrome, and Firefox while the connectivity problems are occuring. When they do occur, a full shut down and cold boot are required to make it work again for a short while.
Does anyone know what might be causing this? I've done numerous checks for malware using Clam Xav and Sophos Anti-Virus. (I didn't suspect that this would be the issue, but it was still something that I decided to rule out.) Additionally, I've tried connecting using both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands on my wireless router. Neither seems to be more successful than the other. (Note: The 5GHz works perfectly and without interruption on my iPad and desktop PC. The 2.4GHz works perfectly with my iPhone 4S and Xbox 360. I feel that with that in mind, I can safely rule out the router as the root of the problem. Both of these examples go on for very extended periods of time. I game regularly using both my PC and Xbox 360.)

    Hi Jollified,
Does your sound work when you try to use head/earphones? If so, try the following:
Plug your Headphones into your Mac.
Play a sound through them (a song for example), then stop the sound.
Make sure 'Preferences' is isn't open. If it is, Quit.
    Launch System Preferences > Sounds.
While the Sounds tab is open and set to 'Headphones', pull out the Headphones from the jack.
You should see your Mac reset to 'Internal Speakers'
Also, I see you have tried resetting the PRAM, have you tried resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)? Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support
As for your MacBook not sleeping when you close the lid, there are many reasons this can occur.
First of all, check out Apples article on the issue: OS X Yosemite: If your Mac won’t go to or stay in sleep If you find these steps don't help, try a few of the following:
A common cause for the Mac not sleeping is your printer. If there are queued jobs waiting to be printed, but your printer is switched off, for some reason you Mac just wont like it and simply will not go to sleep. System Preferences > Print and Scan > Open Print Queue
Do you have an Ethernet Cable connected? People have reported in the past that removing their Ethernet allowed their Mac to sleep. This goes for other things you may have connected directly to your Mac also.
Try heading into your Mac Preferences > Sharing and deselecting 'Internet Sharing' as well as 'Printer Sharing'.
Also deselect Wake For Network Access by heading to System Preferences > Energy Saver > Power Adapter > Wake For Network Access.
Energy Saver > Schedule > Startup or Wake - Uncheck.
Alternatively, set your system preferences to Never Sleep, and put into Sleep manually: System Preferences > Energy Saver > Computer Sleep > Never.
    Good luck!

  • Connectivity issues for random phones in CUCM 8.6 on Vmware

I have a client that has problems with around half of there ip phones (6921 & 7945) after a situation with overheating in the serverroom.
The solutions was a 1 Publisher, 1 subscriber setup with each on a separate Vmware server.
The Publisher is connected to the Core Switch which is further connected to 4 distribution switches which again connect to 5 more distribution switches. They have around 200 ip phones connected to these switches that get assigned IP's with DHCP.
The physical disk that the Subscriber was on was destroyed the incident. The Publisher they recovered, but to do this they had to recreate the vm descriptor file and attach it to the flat-file.
So the current situation is that the system is running with only 1 Publisher and no Subscriber.
There is also a license warning in the CCM Admin section, stating a License Overage (2 nodes used, but only 1 licensed.)
The license status is not invalid though, and the license state is "Uploaded". This second node I suppose might be the Subscirber that no longer exists? The phones have more than enough licenses.
When powered up the system seems to run as it should, but only about half the phones have connectivity to and can register with CUCM.
I have tried to reboot some phones remotely by cutting the power on the switch interfaces where they are attached, but that made no difference.
The console log on the phones that are down show TFTP Timeout & File Transfer Error.
The phones that are up and running can be pinged successfully from the CUCM cli, but when pinging the others I get "Destination Host Unreachable".
The strange thing is that it seems completely random as to what phones are up or down. On all switches there are connected phones with both working and non-working connections to CUCM.
To try to pinpoint the fault I chose 2 devices on the same switch and compared the config for each interface, one that has connectivity and is registered, and one that does not have connectivity and is unreachable.
Everything seems to be identical so I can't see what causes this error on the one, but not on the other.
Also when I ping the ip phone with no connectivity to CUCM from any of the switches, the ping is successful.
Anyone know what could be the cause of this behaviour?

Hello and thank you for your time.
The phones get there IP’s from a DHCP Server (Not the built in one in CUCM, but an external server). I have tested that the DHCP process works by powering off a phone (one of the phones with connectivity issues), deleting the lease, and then powering the phone back on and seeing the device request and receive a new lease.
There is only one CCM group active and both servers are in this group with the Publisher as highest priority server. All phones are in the same Device Pool attached to this group.
There are a lot of warnings regarding dbReplication & missing node due to the subscriber being gone. Also there is an issue with NTP server (see below). I will post more on this tomorrow morning.
I have also attached the console log from one of the phones that can't register.
    NTP Alert:
