WYSIWYG...not even close

I'm trying to use Robohelp 9 and have many problems. One of the most time consuming is the WYSIWYG editor. Changes in the editor are not correctly reflected when I preview. I spend half my time making tiny changes and previewing until I get the results I want.
Another problem is the styles... I apply a predefined style (normal) and either nothing changes or only part of the selected text changes... I've been using this product since Robo3 and can't really say it's improved.
I would pay double the cost if Micosoft would build a tool like Robohelp based on the consistant functionality of Word.

I understand that this was not coded by Adobe originally, but their name is on it now and it's not up to par with the other outstanding products they produce.
As you can see, the table column widths in this example are not even close to the same in the preview.

  • Layout displayed by Dreamweaver not even close to Firefox

As a long-time Dreamweaver user, back to Dreamweaver 3, I'd
been used to the layout displayed by Dreamweaver being close to
that displayed by browsers. With Dreamweaver 8, it's often not even
    close.
    Typical problems:
    - Vertical line spacing is different in Dreamweaver and in
Firefox 2. May be a browser problem.
    - Unwanted vertical space between DIV tags in Dreamweaver
    when DIV contains a FORM.
    - Multiple column layout with DIV tags totally different in
    Dreamweaver 8 and Firefox 2.
I realize that CSS layout is less reliable than table layout,
but that's what we pay Adobe to deal with.
This should just work by now.

Ok: CSS layouts *can* be counted on to display reliably in
    current browsers
just as much as table layouts can.
    That's true, then? :-)

  • Microsoft Course VS Exam VS Real life = Not even close relevant!

    Howdy folks,
I'm writing this just after taking my exam, 70-410. (644, so fail)
Seeing it is a fail and i'm not really new to the microsoft scene, i do company migrations etc and been doing it for years.
For the exam, i've done the most things anyone would do:
    - Get the Microsoft book for the Exam and go thru it.
    - See what you are not so good at and repeat it and test it in labs.
    - Brush up on Powershell, did the virtual acadamy for the basics, jumpstart series.
After my exam, fail.. what i noticed during the exam and annoys me to death:
    - Subnetting, hellow microsoft, if i want to be a great subnetter en supernetter i will take the CCNA of Cisco. In real life we get those info's from the network guys. If not google, subnetting tools etc, you'll find it, stop re-inventing the wheel..
    - What powershell Cmdlet would you use to do this.... the creator of powershell says: "Remember NOTHING we spend ages optimizing the Get-Help or Get-Command functions and building a whole friggn' ISE, because powershell is to big to memorize." i can't
stress this enough, STOP this, give an ISE and let your students MAKE the Cmdlet.
    - Calculator in the exam, c'mon, not even an advanced calculator for subnetting.....???
So Microsoft, i hope you will do something about this crap because, c'mon your books are basic, use trainsignal, pluralsight or cbtnuggets, virtual labs and in the end you hang the result of an exam on what powershell Cmdlet you would use???
    Kind regards,
Someone who will think 3 times of the value of your certifications.

It's a common complaint that the exams contain questions that are not "real life" or they are unfair, such as memorizing a PS cmdlet for doing a certain task when you'd normally just look it up or make your own.
Agreed! However, you still need to pass this exam.
Write down everything you can remember in the exam that gave you problems. Spend at least an hour doing this. Then study up and write notes on all those topics, then take it again within a couple weeks.
It's a "brute force" method but it will help you answer those difficult (unfair?) questions and help you put this exam behind you.
Microsoft knows their exams are hard and expects you to retake them when you fail. Even Microsoft employees fail exams and retake them. I've failed my share but thankfully there is no record of my failed exams available anywhere - just the exams I have passed.
    It bites, I know.
    Good luck.
    Best wishes, Davin Mickelson

  • IWeb "Original Size" download option? -- Not Even Close!

Unless I'm doing something very wrong -- which I sincerely hope is the case -- then iWeb's photo prefs are guilty of seriously false advertising.
I'm trying to create a "My Albums" page, such that the photos in the various albums it indexes can be downloaded FULL SIZE (in the same way that full res images can be downloaded from a MobileMe Gallery, provided the "Allow Downloading of Actual Size Images" option was selected when the Gallery was published).
So in iWeb, I made sure to deselect the "Optimize Images on Import" General Prefs option, before dragging in Aperture Projects and Albums from the Media Browser's Photos tab to create the new iWeb albums, and then made sure to select "Original (Full Quality)" as the Photo Sharing option for each album page in the Inspector’s Photos tab.
After publishing to my MobileMe account, I then visited the new site and did some test downloading, only to find that even with the above settings, the images which downloaded to my hard drive were still a much smaller pixel size than the originals. After a couple more tests, it appears the largest size download I can get from a picture in an iWeb photo album is 1280 pixels in either direction, whereas from a MobileMe Gallery I get the same pixel dimension as the original (so long as that aforementioned "Allow Downloading of Actual Size Images" option was selected).
So what's the deal here? Does iWeb have yet another "Don't shrink-it-just-leave-it-alone" option vis-a-vis photos and their downloadability which I missed?
Or does this "Original (Full Quality)" Photo Download Size option nevertheless impose a 1280-pixel upper limit? And if so, then WHY? I'm a big boy, I can decide how much of my allotted account space I want taken up with non-Optimized photos -- at least I SHOULD be able to decide that.
Any pointers as to how to overcome this arbitrary 1280-pixel download limit would be much appreciated!
    Thanks,
    John Bertram

I guess the answer is no.
A website is for viewing stuff online.
If you want people to be able to download them full size, put them in a folder, ZIP it and create a download link.
You would be best to create a download page(s) for this as, if you put the download files on the photo page it would take forever to download in the browser.
Thanks for the note -- though I'm going to respectfully disagree on the basic premise it presents: that a photo viewing site, and a photo sharing/downloading site, cannot co-exist.
It's a topic I've gone into at length in a new Aperture thread, posted at
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1996786&tstart=0
In the meantime, having discovered the cause of this mysterious 1280-pixel limitation (see next post, below), I was pleased to see that including "unoptimized" images in my iWeb Photo Pages, and allowing them to be downloaded at their full pixel size, did NOT in fact slow down the actual loading or displaying of those same pages -- at least not to any appreciable degree. Which makes sense, since what iWeb is presenting to the end user are its own thumbs and individual previews -- regardless of what size downloads I've enabled in my photo sharing settings for that page. So the individual images display just as quickly.
The only thing that does take a little longer of course is when I initially publish or update my iWeb pages, and the larger, unoptimized images are uploaded to my MobileMe account. Likewise the individual downloading (not the online displaying, just the actual downloading if the user chooses to do so) of selected images -- since a 4MB jpg obviously takes a bit more time to copy to your hard drive than a smaller, 1MB version of the same image.
But the difference is negligible, and like I say, it doesn't seem to affect the preview-size displaying of the images at all, only the full-size downloading. And since my particular "audience" (the people for whom I'm creating these pages) are typically each only downloading a small handful of individual pics selected from each group of images, that's not a problem.
So the answer to my question:
...can iWeb photo pages be configured to allow downloading of images
at their full, original pixel size?
Is in fact: Yes, absolutely -- and with no apparent detriment to how well the images display online.

  • Profile-based Lens Vignette Correction for Nikon 18-200 - Not Even Close!

Wow. I'm in the process of converting some of my photos from PV2003  to PV2010 and I've been discovering that the profile based lens  vignette corrections for my 18-200 are way off. With a profile setting of  100, I have to add a manual amount of about -40 at a midpoint of 95-ish to even it  out. DxO's correction is perfect without tweaking - so I know its not a peculiarity of my lens.
PS - The Make, Model, & Profile appear to be correct.
(I haven't checked my other lenses very closely - but I will be)
    Anybody else?
    Rob

What kind of filter you got stuck on the end of the lens?

  • I have the newest version, but when I started it it goes down after a few seconds (half minute) and I can't do anything anymore, not even close it. What happens?

That is all, no more details possible. I tried also uninstall Firefox and install the newest version again, but it did not help. I even have to stop Firefox with the Taskmanager.
As a result I am noew using Google Chrome (and that is not a good solution I think).
So it is not a normal crash and I do not have an ID.
The previous version worked well with me.

You might consider connecting it to the charger and charging up the battery overnight.

  • Disk full error, but not even close!!  Please help.

I recently moved my I-Tunes music folder to an external hardrive on my network. Everything has been functioning great, but when I tried to make a purchase from the Itunes store today, I get the following message when trying to donload:
**The disk you are attmpting to use is full**
However, my preferences show the new location, which has over 150 GB available. I have not had any trouble adding to my library from other sources. My laptop has over 14 GB available, same as my Ipod. I cannot see where the source of the problem is. I have tried:
    *restarting Itunes
    *restarting my machine
*repairing my disk permissions (based on another thread)
None of these have eliminated the message and allowed download. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    PowerBook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.8) Itunes 7.0.1

I don't understand it either, and I didn't study the problem at all after I got it working. I've read accounts of people experiencing this with varying amounts of space available, so I'm pretty sure it isn't directly related to the exact amount leftover (maybe it has to be above a threshold for the problem to occur at all...). Also, 200GB, while a nice even number in decimal form, isn't anything special in two's complement binary.
I'll assume that you are using the most current version of iTunes (7.0.2 I believe), so this confirms that the problem has not been repaired since I experienced it (7.0). So it is a lingering bug. I did experience the same oddness where I could download podcasts, but it was failing with videos. At the time I assumed it had to do with some arbitrary limit, and that the podcasts were small enough to remain under it. Now, I think it has to do with some state that is stuck in iTunes, and gets reset when something happens with the volume's filesystem.
Anyway, if following the above linked advice doesn't help in your situation, I'm at a loss for what else to try. I guess rebuilding your library may be worth a try. On a few occasions I've had to run "consolidate library". You could try that (if you are using the option to organize your files). It won't damage any of your settings.
On your last point, absolutely correct. Sorry about that, but that's my point of view.
    Good luck.

I wake up in the morning and browse a little bit and play a bit of game before getting out of bed and head to shower while playing music on my phone, these are all done within an hour and my phone has already lost 9% battery. I don't play graphic intensive games.
I purchased this device 3 days ago.

My new iPhone 6 also isfar from getting through a full day with what I'd consider moderate usage,

  • IPod says over capacity, but not even close to full.

It started out when I wanted to sync my iPod, and I was choosing some of the playlists to add, and I accidentally clicked "revert" so it took off all the songs off my iPod. So, I automatically went to sync again, and like over halfway through, it says that iTunes stopped working, then it closed. I opened it again, and tried to sync again, but it said I only had 9 GB left and I couldn't sync it. When I look at the bottom though, it says that I have 5000+ songs, but when I go in to see how much music I actually have, it says 400. Will restoring the iPod to factory settings do anything, or is there something I can do to fix it?

Are you using webmail, or the mail app? If it's the mail app, the first step i'd do is to remove the account and re-add it and see if that fixes it.
