XA Drivers shipped in Oracle

Hello.
Does anybody knows what drivers with XA suport are shipped with Oracle9iAS Release 2 Version 9.0.3.0.0
Thanks!

Yes, iRecruitment leverages OTA architecture to present assessments.
Sadly there's no generic questionnaire functionality - that would be VERY useful for a number of areas (offboarding, return to work interviews, satisfaction surveys etc).
EITs are okay, although the 80 character limit almost prohibits open ended questions. It's also no good for multibyte languages such as Simplified Chinese as you basically only have about 27 characters!

  • JDBC Drivers compatability between Oracle and IBM WSAD 5.1.1

I am using a DataAccessObject pattern. I discovered you can speed up your procesing with SELECT statments us using an OraclePreparedStatment and setting defineColumnType; thereby reducing the number of trips the SQL is sent to the database.
    Here is the code:
    ((OraclePreparedStatement)ps).defineColumnType(1, Types.BIGINT);'ps' is a PreparedStatement.
However, at runtime, I am getting a class cast exception for the below reason. I am using WASD version 5.1.1. I was not aware IBM was using any specific classes in the JDBC drivers.

at java.lang.Throwable.(Throwable.java)Could someone please explain this to me? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not an WSAD expert to be honest, but it's quite possible they are using their own wrappers. Check out what calls you can make on their ps wrapper or more likely conn wrapper - they may have some type of getWrappedConnection functionality as other vendor(s) do in which case you can, eg, cast the connection to OracleConnection and go from there.

  • Why would oracle 9i drivers faster than oracle 10g drivers against a 10g?

I'm skeptical of the claim but we have a system at work and tests have been done that apparently is showing that the older oracle 9i thin jdbc driver is performing a fetch faster than the 10g driver. This for a query that is currently doing a full table scan.
Is there a default setting in 10g vs 9i that can explain why the perceived query performance is faster with the older thin driver?

    steffi2 wrote:
What was observed was that when they started using the old Oracle 8.1.7 8i client jar against this 10g data the actual execution plan changed dramatically to use indexes where was previously it was not doing so and it was doing a full tablescan.
Why would the introduction of the old 8i jar have this affect?Maybe the test is flawed. For example one test was run with the network was loaded while the other wasn't. Or different connection parameters.
That said I believe somewhere the claim has been made that Oracle drivers changed from one API to another somewhat recently. Thus that could be the source.
Or maybe something to do with hints.

  • Oracle 10 drivers compatibility with Oracle 11g database server

Can someone tell me what is the impact using Oracle 10g drivers for 11g database? is there any differences using the ojdbc14.jar instead of ojdbc5.jar?

To find an article, go to My Oracle Supprt (formerly metalink) metalink.oracle.com and login. Then search for the article ID (doc no).
    https://support.oracle.com/CSP/ui/flash.html#tab=KBHome(page=KBHome&id=()),(page=KBNavigator&id=(bmDocTitle=Starting%20With%20Oracle%20JDBC%20Drivers&from=BOOKMARK&viewingMode=1143&bmDocType=FAQ&bmDocDsrc=KB&bmDocID=401934.1))
Somehow it's not easy to paste the URL to the new flashy documents!

  • Questionnaires shipped in Oracle HRMS

My requirement is to have a set of questions related to health in the form of a questionnaire .
Employee needs to provide a Yes/No answer for each of the questions and submit it through self service.
My initial thought was to have it in a descriptive flexfield - Extra Person Information. 5 questions map to 5 segments in my flex context. But it seems there is a size restriction of 30 chars on the segment name and all my questions exceed this size limit.
Do we have a questionnaire capability similar to the one used in appraisals or irecruitment ?
I am aware of the 'Document of Records' functionality where an attachment can be added. However we would like to have the answers directly in an oracle table so that retrieving for reports is easier

Everytime it is the same method that crashes the application.
Since this is running against a RAC installation, I prefer to use Thick driver for failover-purposes.
    1. Any ideas of why this crashes ?
    2. Should I try to upgrade the driver, and if yes, how should that be accomplished.
(Should I just install the newest available classes12.jar for this client ?)

    Hi!
Thanks for the reply. I used the word 'stack-trace' which is not correct, sorry.. :)
    But what I see is that the current java-thread is always in the same method;
    Current Java thread:
    at oracle.jdbc.oci8.OCIDBAccess.get_column_count(Native Method)...
    ..which is the oci8 driver.
This is an OAS installation, and I would guess that is isn't too easy just to upgrade to the last JDK, since this jdk used is a part of the total installation.
Do you have any other suggestions of how to pinpoint in greater detail what actually goes wrong here ?
Is it possible to upgrade only the oci8 driver (if this is the faulty one..) ?
    Thank you!

  • SQL Developer 3.x Disconnection Problem

We are running SQL Developer 3.1 on Windows 7 64 and connecting to a 11.2.0.3 database.
The user's can connect fine, then they can click through and see their tables. Once they click on the tables to see the columns or data, we immediately get disconnected.
We have 1 user still using SQL Developer 2.x and seems to have no problems. We were using 3.0 and couldn't get past connecting. We would click to see a list of the user's tables and would get disconnected then. Now by moving to 3.1 we at least can listing of the views, tables, etc but once we try to click deeper, we get the disconnect.
Has this happened to anyone else?

    Hi Chris,
Thanks for the valuable feedback. You said...
What ultimately fixed it for us was switching the DB to DEDICATED from SHARED.A close read of the full thread I referenced above (both in John's comments and the comments of others) does point to the use of shared connections as a risk factor in triggering this low-level TCP bug. Actually even if the DB is configured for shared connections, a user relying on the SQL Developer connection type=TNS (as opposed to, say, Basic), could override the shared connection usage by specifying SERVER=DEDICATED in his tnsnames.ora file.
    Some other comments...
    1. Out of Band break support in JDBC began with the drivers shipped with Oracle 11g (ojdbc5.jar for 11.1.0.6, ojdbc6.jar for 11.2.0.2).
    2. SQL Developer 2.1 ships with ojdbc5.jar, whereas the 3.x releases ship with ojdbc6.jar. These jars are used if no Oracle client is present.
    3. If the Oracle client's ORACLE_HOME jdbc\lib contains both ojdbc5 and ojdbc6, a 3.x install may incorrectly use ojdbc5.
    4. Out of Band break failures are more common on Windows platforms.
    5. Out of Band break failures are more common, per the forum posts and bugs I have reviewed, when using ojdbc6.
Presumably there are timing issues when the ratio of connections to shared server processes is too high. If use of DEDICATED is not feasible, possibly lowering that ratio may help.

  • Oracle 9i drivers

This is a problem we are facing with Weblogic 8.1- this by default is shipped with Oracle 9i drivers & libraries. However we are still pointing it to a Oracle 8i database. The problem we are having is; Updating a number field for eg putting a 1. The data is persisted through an CMP EJB,
From the client side we set the field with a Integer of value 1, this also goes into the EJB with the same value, but what it actually gets put into the database is some wierd floating point value.
I have tried tracing the JDBC code and we can clearly see that the Prepared statement that Oracle is using is haveing the value 1 - but what gets into the database is still some wierd floating point value.
I found that it works fine if I use Weblogic 8.1 with 8i drivers. I had a lengthy discussion with the support @BEA who are of the opinion that it is a problem with the drivers. I am wondering if anyone else has faced this problem - We need help fast!!!
    Thanks
    Wilson

    1. You are working with Oracle 8i.
    2. All works fine with the 8i drivers.
    3. It doesnt work with the 9i drivers.
=> dont you think everything here is normal/logic ?
I bet that it will not work with the Oracle 7 driver nor with the driver for DB2...
The solution is : "USE THE 8i DRIVER FOR THE 8i DATABASE, USE 9i DRIVER FOR 9i DATABASE, USE THE DB2 DRIVER FOR DB2, USE ACCESS DRIVER FOR ACCESS".

  • Oracle JDBC Drivers

We are extracting blobs from an 8.05 database. The following statement works only with an older driver for a version I'm not sure whar it is(size is 1419KB, date is 11/3/00 at 9:25AM).
Nothing special in the sql just extracting the column.
    pBlob = (oracle.sql.BLOB)rset.getObject(1);
This works fine with the above mentioned driver. All other drivers I have tested 8.15 for 8i, 8.05, 7.34, 8.04, etc. all give the network datatype unsupported error at this statement. I tried the various examples but they were for the oci8 drivers and did not work with thin.
We use the thin(type 4) driver.
Do the new drivers not support the BLOB type for thin?
Does anyone know which driver version and database that the one I described is from?
    Thanks.

    user452131,
Yes, there are differences between the Oracle 8i JDBC drivers and the Oracle 9i JDBC drivers.
If you haven't already done so, I suggest perusing the following Web page:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/java/sqlj_jdbc/index.html
    Good Luck,

  • Shipped drivers and DIH

We want to test DIH in Solr connecting to a MS SQL Server.
First we followed the steps described in the Help section "Indexing using Data import Handler" (http://help.adobe.com/en_US/ColdFusion/10.0/Developing/WSe61e35da8d318518-1acb57941353e8b4 f85-7ffd.html).
For connecting to MS SQL we would definitely prefer to use those drivers shipped with CF. As far as we could find our, for MS SQL this is the Macromedia Driver, so we switched the settings in data-config.xml to:
    driver="macromedia.jdbc.MacromediaDriver" url="jdbc:macromedia:sqlserver://foo:1433;databaseName=bar"
We also added a lib/-subfolder into the folder of the corresponding collection where we did put the macromedia_drivers.jar so Solr could find the driver.
    However, executing a fullimport fails.

We are running ColdFusion 10,282462 Developer Edition on Windows 7. We can successfully connect to the same database within our CF-apps and thus would have expected new DIH-actions of cfindex should be able to connect to the same databases with the same shipped drivers, too.
Anyone any thoughts how to fix this issue?

Hm, where was dynabook released? In USA or GB??
So, here are some links to toshiba driver sites, which could probably help you to find the drivers you need:

  • Oracle VM 3 Linux Paravirtualized Drivers

Currently my Oracle Linux 5.x & RHEL 5.x are running on Realtek NICs drivers with 100MB network speed.

Does anyone successful install Linux Paravirtualized Drivers?

What are the missing dependencies? You can use http://public-yum.oracle.com to configure yum so that it automatically resolves dependencies for you. Also, keep in mind that the UEK (2.6.32) kernel has the paravirtualization drivers built-in, so if you boot that kernel, it should automatically switch to using the PV drivers.

  • Printer Drivers and Oracle

We would like to know how to put printer drivers into an Oracle database for download later.
What our aim here is...to always have the latest driver (.exe or .zip) stored in Oracle so we can retrieve it as needed. We will probably set up a web based application to access the drivers from the Oracle database.
    Any ideas? :)

    1. is it a possible task? I mean, does oracle allow this serial communication from database? It is not Oracle that is doing the communication, but Java.
Have a look at the Processing Architecture in the Oracle Concepts guide (sorry, OTN acting up and doc URLs are timing out so I can't get the applicable ones to post - go to http://tahiti.oracle.com for list of manuals).
The Java VM resides inside the Oracle server process that is servicing that database client. Now for code in this VM to access the kernel (and interact with hardware devices), I would expect holes to be punched into the VM to allow that access - as that VM runs in a sandbox.
    2. is there some error in my code? From what you have posted, does not look like it.
    3. do I need to set some security permission (some kind of init parameter) to allow this kind of operation?Yes, that's my guess. You likely need to use the DBMS_JAVA package to enable that Java code to step outside of the sandbox and into kernel space. But be sensible about security when implementing this though in production.
You want to use the minimal security settings for Java. Ideally you want this to run in a non-user Oracle schema - in other words a schema that owns the Java and PL/SQL code, does not allow interactive sessions, and then in turn grant execute access on selected PL/SQL procedures it owns to application (or user) schemas.
    4. or there is some other way arround to do this. I mean can I call that java class from OS level from within PL/SQL?Yeah.. that can also be done. You can use Java to execute command line calls. You can also use external procedure (EXTPROC) to do the same.

  • Is SQL Developer 1.5.1.54.40 compatible with older versions of Oracle DB?

I have SQL Developer 1.2.1 on one machine (this has Oracle installed on the PC) and SQL Developer 1.5.1.54.40 on another (this does not have Oracle installed on it)
I have set the same 3 database environments on both versions using Basic connection. They have exactly the same Host IP addresses and Port numbers and service names. I am using the same logins and passwords on the PCs.
When I test these 3 connections on the PC with 1.2.1, the test is successful
When I test on the PC with 1.51, the test succeeds with one of the connections which is on Oracle 9i, and fails on the remaining 2 connections which are on Oracle 8i=The Failure message I get is: "+*Failure: Test Failed. Unsupported Oracle Database Version*+"

Unfortunately for your 8i DBs, there is a note in the [release notes|http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/sql_developer/files/relnotes_v151.html] that says:
The JDBC drivers shipped are 11g R1. This means that users will no longer be able to connect to an Oracle 8.1.7 database.

  • Deploying to Sun AppServer PE 8.1 (build b41-fcs) with an Oracle database

    Hello,
I'm trying to deploy an application to Sun AppServer PE 8.1(an external server, not the embedded one).
I already know that the direct deployment preview feature doesn't work with 8.1:
    http://swforum.sun.com/jive/thread.jspa?forumID=123&threadID=50572

Has anybody dealt with this issue before? Can someone help me with this?
    Thanx,
    Pedro Pires

Oracle drivers have that limitation - that's one reason why we ship with our own drivers for accessing oracle.
For trying to use the JSC bundled drivers in 8.1 - there's license restrictions (read $$$) involved with using JSC bundled drivers and "other" app servers. It this case, 8.1 PE (emphasis on the PE) is classified as an "other".
Buying 8.1 (i.e., non PE), or waiting for JSC to bundle 8.1, seem to be your options if 8.1 is required.
