Xbox 360 / Zen Micro / DRM'd Subscription Trac

I see all of the posts about the Zen Micro working with the Xbox 360, but does this work in the case of DRM'd tracks - particularly subscription services like Yahoo Music Unlimited?
I don't have an Xbox 360 (yet), but am curious as to if this works. And, if it does, does the Xbox 360 have to be networked as to contact the subscription service itself (to determine legitimacy of playback), or does it get this licensing information directly from the player? The latter way - while it makes sense technically - doesn't seem like it'd be too popular with the subscription services, or particularly the schmucks at the RIAA.
I love my Yahoo Music Unlimited, but this DRM stuff sure creates some headaches.

• Xbox 360 and iTunes DRM free

Excuse me if this has already been asked, the search feature is disabled.
I am unable to stream my DRM free songs purchased on iTunes to my 360. I thought they were DRM free? I can convert them to MP3 but then that would eat up a lot of space on my hard drive. Is there any other way around this? Thanks.

I have a friend that had the same problem, what you do is individually on each song (or album) whichever you prefer and right click on the song and the menu will come up, there will be an option that says "Create AAC Version" select that and it will create that version of the material and you can burn a cd or put on your xbox

• Zen Micro to Xbox

I'm trying to stream my music from my Zen Micro to my Xbox 360. These are the instructions Microsoft gives me to do so:
. Connect a USB cable (not provided) between the device and a controller port on your console.
2. Configure the device to play through the USB port.
3. Select Media, Music, Portable Device.
4. Select the music or playlist you want to listen to.
My system won't let me acess the Portable Device option in step 3, so I think the problem is in step 2. How do I configure my Zen Micro to play through the USB port?
Also, the microsoft website has Zen Micro listed as a supported device that may require a firmware update, but I looked through the list of firmwares, I don't know which one that would be.
EDIT: Ok, after browsing around a little more, I found that I need the V.2 Firmware. But when I try to open it, it says that something is interfering with it and to close everything else. But everything else is closed, and I still get this. Help?Message Edited by antny85 on 02-9-20070:26 AM

Sounds like they're talking rubbish, but I'm not sure where you read this
All that's important is the player has the PlayForSure/MTP v2.xx firmware. MTP is required for an MP3 player to talk to an Xbox 360.
Thanks. I got the information st from the XBOX Support website, then the exact same verbage was found here, in the Creative Knowledge Base. Here is the EXACT text from the Creative Knowledge Base on the XBOX 360 / Zen Micros search I summited: (Note Step number 2. This is what causes the confusion. Creative makes it sound like there is some option or setting the Zen user must configure) .. Anyway, thanks for your assistance!

When I plug my micro into the usb port on the 360, the 360 doesent even say their is a device plugged in. Is there any way I can hook up my Micro to my 360? Thanks

That's really odd.
I have my old Zen Micro and it does work with my 360.
Does the connection work on the PC?
Do you have the latest firmware of the Zen Micro?
Keep trying and let us know. This is def. an odd issue here, as the Xbox 360 should be able to detect the player.

To use a player on the Xbox 360 you would need an MTP firmware update for the MP3 player. You can download an MTP-compatible player for the Zen Micro on the Downloads page. It is listed there as:

• Zen Micro - copying WMA files with DRM using WM

I have Windows 98SE and Windows Media Player 9. I was wondering, if I get a Zen Micro, will I be able to use WMP 9 to copy DRM-protected WMA files to my device, or do I have to use the Creative software? I read in another post something about the 2.x branch of the firmware being needed for Plays For Sure compatibility -- does this mean I would need this firmware to use WMP? Does the 2.x firmware have the fixes for the battery drain problem, etc.
One more question. With my Muvo TX FM, Windows Explorer recognizes it as a removable dri've, and I can drag-and-drop non-DRM MP3s directly to it. Is this possible with the Zen Micro?
Thanks,
Huck

• Can i use my Creative Zen Touch with my Xbox 360

Hello, wondering if you can help me out with the question above, and if you know how to make it work. If you could help me i'd be grateful.

You can use the Zen Touch with the Xbox 360, but you would have to update the firmware on the player to an MTP (2.x) firmware. This will slightly change the way the player works on the PC. For more information on MTP, check this knowledgebase article.

• Zen micro "all trac

I have heard that the zen micro does not have an all tracks list, and i was wondering if that was true or false? and even if it didnt have an all tracks list cant you just make your own playlist of all the tracks?
thanks

There is an option for an all tracks list on the Zen Micro. In the first menu, select Music Library. On the next screen there is an option called "All Tracks". Once you select that, it'll go into the list, and you can choose to play and it'll create a Now Playing list of all the tracks.

• ZEN MICRO, WINDOWS XP SE VS. WINDOWS XP PROFESIO

My Zen Micro works perfectly on my home computer with windows xp se, but at work the computers have XP pro, when I plug in the USB immediately recognizes the device but when I open the device manager it says the device is not conected.
The Zen Micro also works good with my Xbox 360, I'll appreciate any help you can provide on this issue, I really need to use the micro as a hard dri've since I have to bring work home.
Thank you. :smileyvery-happy:

Y'know, if all you need is to take your work home then you don't even need for the MTP to work.
Just use the UMS mode in your player's Extras menu.
Finally, as far as I know there are no WinXP SE, there are WinXP Home and Pro (where the only complains you'll EVER hear will be for the Home side) and there are WinXP SP / SP2 (which would definitely help...).
The way I see it there must me a hotfix that needs to be installed, thus, installing the files DM suggests HERE would help immensely I would think.
That, or you could simply try using windows update for all critical and software components...
Tell us how it goes.

• Zen Micro - display says no license?

My daughters Zen Micro will not access any of the songs. She gets a message telling her she does not have a license to play the tracks. They were downloaded from Napster-to-go, and our subscription is current. Prior to the message, the Micro consistently locked up and she had to remove and replace the battery several times. what is going on?

Call Napster-To-Go support and ask them to help you reset your DRM management suite.
It is a program that they will allow you to download whilst on the phone, and it will reset your license structure. Then, the next time you connect with Nap, all your licenses will also be registered. That should fix your complaint.
Cheers!

• Zen Micro, license for mus

Hey, I used purchased a Zen Micro mp3 player. I am using Napster to go for my music. BUt I don't know what I did, and the first batch of songs I transferred from Napster won't play. It says that there's no license, sync from pc. How can I fix this? I hope I don't have to transfer the songs again. The songs I just uploaded works fine (i.e. this is second upload since purchase).

Did you play the files on your PC first before synching them? That's usually a requirement of Windows Media DRM (download or subscription).

• Zen Micro / Rhapsody To-Go - problems after upgra

I am using my new Zen Micro 6GB with my Rhapsody To-Go subscription. After performing all the reccomended firmware and DRM upgrades, I still have these problems below, which I already reported the issues to the Real people.
While I'm waiting for their responses, does anyone else have the same issues? Any other suggested solutions?
TRANSFER:
The Rhapsody software refuses to transfer certain tracks that are supposed to be compatible with the To-Go service. The transfer fails and gives me an "unsupported media type" error.

Solution: Try using Real Player to transfer these tracks. It works for me.

DELETE:
I cannot always use the Rhapsody or Real Player software to delete tracks off of the Zen Micro player (It does work sometimes).

Solution: Use the Creative Media Organizer (CMO) to delete them.

SYNC:
Using the Rhapsody software to Sync in "Overwrite" mode does not delete tracks I removed from playlists.

Solution: Use CMO to delete tracks, restart Rhapsody, then sync

LIBRARY CHAOS IN CMO:
Tracks transfered with Rhapsody are in artist folders, but split between two master "Music" folders

Tracks transfered with Real Player are listed only as individual tracks, not in artist folders

Solution: ? I'm afraid that re-organizing tracks will cause more problems within Rhapsody

PLAYLISTS IN CMO:
Rhapsody playlists are shown on the Zen Micro, but cannot be seen/edited within CMO.

Solution: ?

I'd appreciate any help anyone can give me.

Hi -- Actually - wasn't aware of that - but I had started Napster just to see what happened - and nothing.
That being said - I e-mailed help desk and got another series of steps to get the device to be recognized. Different drivers to download, etc.
After a few more hours of playing with it - I was able to reconnect and when I reconnected to Napster - the transfer errors were gone.
I'm not posting the steps only because I'm not exactly sure what caused it to stop being recognized in the first place and then what caused it to start transferring again. Personally -- I think it was when I threatened to replace it with an IPOD
Just really glad to have it back!! Thanks all for your assistnce.

• Iphone 4 Video and Xbox 360 as my PC's Windows Media Center

I noticed that all video formats play perfectly over my Xbox 360 except for video shot with my iphone 4. It plays the video in slow motion while the audio is at regular speed. It's very annoying. Is their a fix for this or do I just need to convert the iphone 4 videos to h264 mp4, or regular mp4? Any quick fixes so I don't have to do the converting? When I play them on my HP they play just fine. I'm assuming it has something to do with the Xbox 360 not having an updated codec. Any ideas will be tried.
Thanks

I'm in the same Xbox 360 boat. I'm also amazed at the lack of information on this problem since the iPhone 4 has been out so long and the Xbox 360 received an update long after.
It has to be a codec issue since the Xbox 360 can play 1080p content. The iPhone 4 720p video can't be more intensive than 1080p.
While I'm at it why can't the Xbox 360 play iTunes Plus and iTunes Lossless audio, they're DRM free (I use Connect360 to get around the issue)? Seriously, Microsoft has to be doing it on purpose. Every attempt I've made to get this question answered has been met with a MS wall.
