Xcode snapshots problems

It seems in Xcode I'm at a point where the snapshots will no longer work for me. When I make a new snapshot, it always shows every file in the project in the "Files Added" category and there will not ever be files in the "Files Changed" category. Older snapshots a few files in the "Files Changed" category but no new ones do.
Does anyone know what to do here?
I've tried removing directories in ArchiveDirectories, editing the Snapshots plist file, removing the snapshots image (~Library/Application Support/Developer/Shared/SnapshotRepository.sparseimage), among other things.

That was easy. The DU output appears in the console log. Here it is:

12/23/08 12:37:22 AM Disk Utility[9894] Permissions repair complete
Doesn't look like it should have helped Xcode at all. This is what I remember with certainty:
1. I made a snapshot days after installing the 10.5.6 update (directly from Software Update.)
2. I got the "(no changes)" message when comparing that snapshot with the previous one.
3. I quit Xcode, relaunched, and the problem had disappeared. All diffs showed up.
4. Days later, I made another snapshot and "(no changes)" appeared when comparing any snapshots. This time, quitting and relaunching Xcode didn't help at all. The 12-15 and 12-20 folders contained identical files despite my having made many changes.
5. I tried restoring the SnapshotRepository.sparseimage via Time Machine, mounting the image and looking for missing files, etc. Couldn't find any signs of corruption. Never touched any preferences files though. Nothing helped. This is when I made my original post.
6. Ran DU "repair permissions" just for grins, and suddenly "it just worked." The latest snapshot that I had made (the one that that seemed to trigger the problem) and all others now show the expected diffs, some of which are quite extensive changes.
7. Subsequent snapshots also show the correct diffs. So I thought DU had fixed the problem. Maybe not.
Now, here are some things that I did that directly affected the repository image. I just can't remember exactly when I did them:
- At some point I deleted a snapshot using the Xcode interface by choosing a snapshot and clicking Delete. I can't remember exactly, but I'm pretty sure I deleted the last one at the time (dated 12-20, which, when I mounted the image, contained files that were physically identical to the 12-15 snapshot's.) This would have probably happened at some point between steps 5 and 6 above, but I'm not sure.
- I'm pretty sure I made at least one other snapshot on the 20th, got the same "no changes" message, and just gave up fiddling around. Waited a few days, made a few more changes, then posted here.
Sorry for burning up all that bandwidth. It really doesn't look like permissions could have caused the original problem (the 12-15 and 12-20 snapshots containing identical files despite my changes in Xcode.) But somehow things are fine now.

  • XCode connection problem with XCode

    Hi!
I need some advice with my developer environment. When i got my dev-licence everything worked fine. But after som days my iPhone started to beap and XCode failed to connect to the iPhone. Some times it had a short connection for i minute or so.
I have tested different usb cables. I have tested to restart my Mac, iPhone in different combinations.
After upgrading iOS SDK my problems was gone for some day.
I don't need to have XCode running to make the iPhone beap.
My phone have some sequirity patches from the Company i work for.
My setup: XCode 4.5 Mac Mini OSX 10.7.4
    Thankfull for all help!

Good trick!  Care to elaborate on how your company applies security patches to an iPhone?

  • XCode 4 Problems

Is anyone else experiencing consistent crashes in XCode 4? I can duplicate the problem by setting a breakpoint in a multi-threaded app, waiting 40 seconds after the breakpoint is hit, and clicking another tab. The CPU utilization goes to 100%, and I have to force quit xcode. This makes it impossible to debug my multi-threaded apps.

We have been experiencing many problems using Xcode 4 with iOS SDK 4.3. Often the problems are intermittent, but much time is wasted working around them (too often requiring quitting Xcode and restarting). e.g.:
Crash on launch of Xcode 4 whenever the "x project is locked for editing... Do you want to unlock it?" Select "Do not show this message again", then click [Don't Unlock]. Crash.
Debugging with GDB sometimes results in the project details window showing when a breakpoint is hit or attempting to step thru the code, requiring hunting thru the navigator to get back to the related source file where the PC is holding at.
Intermittently features like command clicking on a class or function name do nothing, instead of going to the related source file.
I'm about ready to revert to Xcode 3.

  • Xcode 3.0 & InterfaceBuilder (IB) - IB Write Files & xcode syncing problems

Anybody tell me why IB in Leopard is broken?
After I create a new project in xcode & then I open up the .NIB. I'll start designing my UI with custom objects. When I perform either a write file.. or Sync with xcode, it doesn't work?
Is this a bug? If so what is the work around? Create the files in xcode first, then when performing a write files replace them???????
    Thanks,
    Jim

Perhaps you should try to create a new project from scratch and see if that new project exhibits the same problem. If so, there is a problem with your system. If not, there is a problem with that particular project and/or NIB file. Both Xcode and the new IB work fine for me.

  • XCode debugging problems

For some reason, when I try to debug or run my application within XCode, my Application menu does not appear, and keys pressed go to the runlog window, not my application controls.
Any Idea what's going on, or how I should start troubleshooting this problem?

It sounds like your Info.plist file is messed up. I used to get that problem when I was first using Xcode. The best way to fix it is to create a new Cocoa application with nothing in it. Compile and run it to make sure it works correctly. Then, inspect the Project and Target settings. I don't remember precisely where the problem was. Usually, it was something related to a mismatch involving the name of the application. I had renamed my app something different than MyApp and didn't use the new name everywhere.
Anyway, inspect those settings. Your GUI has become disconnected from your application. Sorry I can't provide more help. It has been several years since I had this problem. I have since learned to pick a good application name when I create the project and stick with it.

  • Xcode download problems

Ever since the iOS 6 update and the last update for mountain lion I´ve tried to download the new update for Xcode with no success, I get an error message "try the purchases page", I try in the purchases page but there I get a new error message "an error has occured". I deleted the app, thinking that would help, which was a terrible mistake because now I cant even download the app again.
    Anyone has a similar problem?
    Kind regards

iOS 6 is for iOS based devices such as the iPod touch, iPads, and iPhones, not a Mac.
    As for XCode...
How to re download apps from the Mac App Store:
Open the App Store. From the menu bar click Store > Sign In
Click Purchases from the top of the App Store window.
Select which apps you want to re download. Then right or control click where you see Installed  then click Install.
Make sure and use the same Apple ID used for the original purchase.

  • XCode Installation Problems

Hi, i'm trying to install XCode to start learning Cocoa. I tried to install XCode from the CD and it seemed to go fine, except when i went to start XCode the application wasn't there. I went to the DeveloperTools.pkg and tried that but got an error saying "You cannot continue. There is nothing to install." I downloaded XCode 2.4.1 from the developement website and got the same error. Please help me. Thanks.

Perhaps that is your problem. There is only one package you need to install. That main package will install any of the other ones that it needs. I don't have those things in front of me right now, but just install the first package in the top level. There should only be one there.

  • Bash_profile problems, gcc/make/xcode tools problems

I've been encountering several weird problems with Leopard lately. I need to do some command line compiling and have been running into issues. I first installed Xcode tools to get gcc, make etc. However, the Xcode tools seemingly failed to modify bash_profile, as the Xcode tools directory is not included in the PATH.
    g-mac:~ lindec$ PATH=$PATH\:/Xcode2.5/usr/bin ; export PATH
Fixes the issue with gcc here. However, I then installed MacPorts, and MacPorts apparently fails to modify bash_profile as well, as the "port" command will fail unless I modify the PATH by hand to include the MacPorts directory. This at least allowed me access to the "port" command. However, now MacPorts cannot compile anything because it claims make is missing! Here is the output:
    g-mac:~ lindec$ port install py-mysql
---> Building zlib with target all
Error: Target org.macports.build returned: shell command " cd "/opt/local/var/macports/build/opt_local_var_macports_sources_rsync.macports.org_release_ports_archiverszlib/work/zlib-1.2.3" && make all " returned error 127
Command output: sh: make: command not found
Error: The following dependencies failed to build: mysql5 openssl zlib python24 gettext expat libiconv gperf
Error: Status 1 encountered during processing.
What the heck is going on here??? I know this post could also be made on the MacPorts site, however I thought it prudent to be put here because I want to know why installations that are supposed to be setting PATH are not doing it and if that is causing my problem. Also, how do I permanently modify my bash_profile on Leopard so I dont have to keep reminding bash whenever I start a new terminal session.

A disclaimer - I am EXTREMELY new to programming and was simply trying to create a C++ Hello World program in Eclipse and was getting an error which I will not go into...
This error led me to search all kinds of posts regarding something that just might have something to do with this post. All the info I found indicated that the error was due to not having gcc, g++, and/or gmake installed.
I opened Terminal and tried to run commands like gcc --version or which gcc and got nothing or '-bash: gcc: command not found'.
The problem is from the finder, I can find 'gcc-4.0'. In addition 'gcc --version' does not work, but if I enter '/Developer/usr/bin/gcc --version' it works. It seems that /usr/bin (assuming we're talking about the same /usr/bin) is not the default path for me?
For reference, I've had XCode 3.0 installed for months, and the --version says I have gcc 4.0.1.
Please forgive me if I have no idea what you guys are talking about and I'm way off with this post!!
    -John

  • UFS snapshot problems

    Hello all,
I seem to be having random problems with UFS snapshots. Infrequently our server will completly lock up when I do a UFS snapshot of root and the /var file systems. Sometimes it will happen several times a month, or I may go a couple months between problems. The only thing different about this box versus the other 25 Sun servers I am running is that is has Sun's JES 2005Q4 mail server installed on it. The systems are are this, process stop responding, you can login to the box in that it accepts your username and password and then hangs. Console access is the same, the only way to get the system functional again is poweroff the system. The problems start happening right after the snapshots are attempted. I know this, because the last thing in the logs is the messages from disabling ntp, because ntp locks the file system and has to be disabled before root and /var will work the UFS snapshot.
Anybody else seen this or have any ideas? The 1:30am phone calls are starting to get old.
    Running Kernel 127111-05 on a V890.
    Thanks,
    Gary

No one else having any problems with snapshots or am I just the lucky one?

  • CS3/4, Mac OS X, XCode .jar problem

    Hi there,
I got some problem while trying to launch a .jar file from a SDK plug-in.
First, I have to start a .jar file to do some work with an open InDesign document.
I try to do this with:
    system("open /Application/Adobe InDesign CS3/Plug-Ins/myFile.jar");
but nothing happens - the file doesn't start.
Then I've tried another location for the file:
    system("open /Application/myFile.jar");
and it works! so it seems to be a problem for system function to deal the path part: "Adobe InDesign CS3" (the file I try to start is in both folders just for test).
Have anyone an idea why the name of a folder with spaces cause a problem for system()?
On the other side I do the same stuff on windows platform and start a .jar file according to a path to InDesign CS3 like this:
    PMString strFolder;
...geting the path to InDesign using iCoreFilenameUtils and adding the subfolders - it works fine...
    then:
    TCHAR *path=strFolder.GrabTString();
    ShellExecute(NULL,NULL,TEXT("myExecutable.exe"),NULL,path,SW_SHOWNORMAL);
It woks fine on the windows but now I have to do the same on Mac OS X.
    My questions are:
how to convert IDFile (contain the full path to my .jar file) to something accepted from system() function OR
how to start .jar file other way then with system() getting the path as a PMString or IDFile.
Some example code or suggestions would be nice.
    Thx in advance
    jarema

Your trying execute a system command that requires a posix path.
    The path " /Application/Adobe InDesign CS3/Plug-Ins/myFile.jar" should be " /Application/Adobe\ InDesign\ CS3/Plug-Ins/myFile.jar" or " /Application/"Adobe InDesign CS3"/Plug-Ins/myFile.jar"
You can either search and replace the spaces in the path with "\ " or I believe the FileUtils class in the SDK has some funcs for working with IDFiles and posix paths.

  • Xcode snapshots not working?

My snapshots are not restoring even though they say they are. My code is not changing and all the errors are still there. I'm panicking because this app may be a goner if I can't undo some of the things I did.

Did you ever find a solution to this?

  • Annoying XCode 3 problem

I have just moved over to MacOS 10.5 and XCode 3 and I am finding the XCode environment really annoying. When doing a search, goto line, quick open I enter some text in the edit control and press the return key to OK the dialog. This used to work OK in 2.4.1, but in 3.0 I get a return character in the edit field. I can use the keypad enter key to get the result I want, but at the moment I am still re-training my hands to do the right thing and It's catching me out all the time.
Is there a preference I can change to get me back to the old way of working??
    TIA,
    Mike.

Xcode -> preferences -> key bindings ->Text Key Bindings:<br /><br />Clear the <enter> from line "Insert Newline and Indent"<br />Bind it to the next line "Insert Newline and Indent with Enter" replacing the existing selection
