Xcopy windows to time capsule

I have an xcopy script that copies my Widnows Vista documents via xcopy to another hard drive just fine.
It also works fine the first time it is targetted to Time Capsule Z: drive.
However, it gives me a permissions error (cannot create directory) on subsequent runs.
Anybody doing this with success?
Same problem with both Vista and XP.

work fine the first time. but won't copy just the changes (like it does with my firewire attached Maxtor HDD). It gives this error:

Hello CraigC23. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
If your Time Capsule (TC) is configured to be your Internet router, then you only need to do two things to allow access to it from the Internet:
o Using AirPort Utility, enable both the "Enable file sharing" and the "Share disks over Ethernet WAN port" options on the utility's Disks > File Sharing page.
o On the utility's Summary page, note the value of IP Address. This will be the TC's WAN-side IP address.
To access the TC from the Internet, use My Network Places and enter smb://TC's WAN-side IP address in the Internet or network address box.

Windows/Mac/Time Capsule

I currently keep my iTunes library on my pc. I now have a MacBook and would like to also have the library available to my Mac. Can I put my iTunes library on a Time Capsule and share the library between BOTH computers? I also want to be able to burn music from my library with either computer. Is this possible and, if so, how?

TS2706 I cannot connect to my airport (time capsule) from a Windows PC

Any information on how to connect to an aiport extreme (really the time capsule) from a Windows platform. Have no problem from our Mac's but cannot connect from a windows based platform. I haven't been able to find any recent posts to help with this problem.

But it is what I did to see both the TC drive and it's attached USB drive on the Windows side of my network..
1.) First, I added Airport Utility to the Inbound rules of Win 7 Firewall
While poking around my Network Sharing and Firewall settings trying to figure this out, I got a Pop-up recommending I do that. AND I did that. Oh, and while you are at it, make sure you have a Home network established.
2.) Next, on a hunch, I installed a USB Wi-Fi Adapter (under $20) to my Win PC, enabled that Wi-Fi connection and disabled my Ethernet connection. I was getting no where on this matter with my Ethernet connection to a DSL Gateway. But with a Wi-Fi connection to my AirPort Express Base Station, I made progress.
3.) Finally, while poking around my Network Sharing Center some more, one by one I started the various network device Setup Wizards in there, and Trouble Shooters, to find the elusive TC/USB devices in question...AND voila, it worked.   And it's stable, been this way for going on two weeks now.

Can't access a USB Drive connected to Time Capsule from a Windows PC. Apple Care can't/won't assist. HELP!!!

Trying to get my Windows 7 PC to access the USB Drive that is connected to my Time Capsule. I have a Fat32 Formatted USB drive connected to a 2TB Time Capsule and I'm trying to get access to that drive from a Windows 7 PC. I've attempted to map the network drive (based on some 3-4 year old articles I could find online) but any time I access a file from the PC, the Time Capsule "freaks out" and disconnects all connections to it which forces me to unplug it to restart the Tim Capsule. I'm at a loss now as to what to do.
Spent a few hours talking to Apple about this and much more. Apple Care can't or won't help with this particular problem (the guy I talked to, as nice and helpful as he wanted to be, had no experience supporting their hardware in a Windows environment).
Someone has to know how to fix this so, PLEASE, help if you can!

Time Capsule turned to PC Server?

Hi Everyone,
I have a 1TB time capsule that I've had forever - seriously, since it first came out. It works perfectly! I use it for both my backup device and to broadcase my wireless signal.
The only computers I use are Macs - my roommates, however, use PC's.
I recently noticed that in my Finder window, the time capsule "disk" is now a PC screen, and the name of it is my first and last name, with my last name misspelled.... When I right click on the icon, the "Kind" is a PC Server... Does anyone know what could have happened to my time capsule?
When I use the Airport Utility, I get an error, which reads, "Unable to find a AirPort Wireless Device."
Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions for me? Could my roommates - or neighbors - have accessed my Time Capsule?

Yes.. there is no loss of data doing a reset.
There are 3 levels of reset.. and at least for Gen1-4 TC and Gen 1-5 AE this document is still valid.

Looks like it has just been updated.
To erase data on the TC you need to do it deliberately..
But let me say.. if you have all the files on the TC and no where else.. you have no backup.. you MUST fix that today.. go and buy a USB drive of equal size or larger than the TC and archive it now.. If someone has accessed the TC they can do an erase in a few seconds.. and that means goodbye to your files.. The TC is not a reliable file store.. it is a backup location.
The quick method of factory reset.
Power down the TC.
Hold in reset. and keep holding it in. Gently it is a tiny surface mount switch with a plastic lever.. Attempting to push it out the other side of the TC will not make the switch turn on.
(I fix TC and have several reset levers bent over and jammed).
Power on the TC.. this needs three arms.. a friend or power switch you can get to with your feet..
Keep holding in reset for about 10sec until the front LED flashes rapidly.
Release reset and wait .. the boot will be slow as it deletes previous setting.. only from router side and pulls out the factory defaults.

Will Time Capsule work on Windows computers?

Yes. It's just a network drive to Windoze. Once you find it browsing the network (assuming you named the worksapces riht, etc.), it will pop up on the list of network drives, and from there you can assign a drive letter to it and keep it auto-mounted.
However, with windoze 7 home, their new built-in 'backup' won't touch it, or use it in any way, because Micro$uck considers backup to network attached storage a 'premium feature' that mere home users shouldn't have access to.
However, any other backup software that isn't ******** will copy to the drive, if you assign a drive letter to it. Including 'xcopy /h /e /r /d /i /c /k /y D:\mystuff Z:\backup', assuming you mounted the Time Capsule as 'Z'.

Sorry I cannot follow why you would even use the PC to control the Time Capsule. Apple have not kept the Windows version of the utility up to date.. so they keep making it harder and harder to run windows with apple routers.

How can I print via the AirPort Time Capsule on a Windows 7?

First of all, I am really inexperienced about all these things. I have a MacBook from 2009 with OSX Lion and a PC Windows 7 x64. I have got a time capsule (https://www.mikepalmer.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/apple-time-capsule.jpg) connected to my router
and then another router in my room (probably working as an acces point) to which I wirelessly connect my Windows 7.
The thing is that I can see the printer (HP Laserjet P1005) from my Mac but I don't know how to add it to my windows. On a previous PC I added a printer to the time capsule's IP 192.168.1.2 and printed with a considerable delay that way.
As you can see I don't understand how networks work, how IP's work, or how ports work in this matter.
Any help will be much appreciated!!

Can No Longer See Time Capsule on Windows 7 Laptop

I installed a time capsule as our home network about a year ago. The time capsule is hard wired to the FIOS router (FIOS router wireless turned off). Our computers and digital devices connect to the tme capsule wifi network. I set up the time capsule to be used as a wireless extrnal hard drive and we connect to it with a couple of windows 7 pcs.
About a week ago, around the time of a couple of windows updates, the external drive stopped showing up on one of the laptops. Can still see it and work with it on the other laptop. Wifi network still works fine. Green light on time capsule.
I tried going back to a prior restore point before all the updates, but still cannot "see" the hard drive.
Tried restarting both the laptop and the time capsule, to no avail.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

OK, I fixed it. I went into "Programs and Features" on the control panel and I basically right clicked on Bonjour and Airport and asked wondows to "repair" them. After a few seconds, the Time Capsule had reappeared in "My Computer."
I'm guessing that some critical process required to see the drive had been turned off or stopped working, but who knows ...

How can I use my time capsule to save files from my windows PC (Windows 8.1)?

I have been to see the iStore close to where I live but I am frustrated to say that they are no help what so ever. The technical desk there freely admits that they do not how to do it and all they say is "apparently it is easy. Just follow the instructions on screen" which helps me no end!
I have the Time Capsule set up on my mac and want to use part of the disc to save my files from my Windows PC (running Windows 8.1) that is on the same home network.

Load the airport utility for windows. Sadly the most recent one is old.

Although it is for windows 7 it does work on 8 and 8.1 .. tell us if you have problems loading it. Some people find it won't work without using safe mode.
The utility will not help a lot to setup the latest model TC.. it is fine for Gen4 and earlier. But it does load bonjour for windows and a disk access agent.
The TC should run simple names.. Short.. keep them below 10 characters if you can. No spaces and pure alphanumeric.
That includes the base station name and wireless name.
Once all of that is correct, open windows explorer and type in the address bar.
\\TCname or \\TCipaddress where you replace TCname with the new short name or TCipaddress with obviously its actual IP.
You will then get a request for username and password. Username is whatever.. admin will do. Password type in your disk access password.. public by default.
TC is not designed to allow partitions so you cannot partition the TC disk. Create a folder and simply copy and paste your files to the folder.
NOTE:: The TC cannot back itself up. So make sure you do not move files to the TC without having another copy.
NOTE:: The TC does not happily mix TM backups and data.

How do I access time capsule data with windows 7

My computer hard drive crashed and was recently replaced and a fresh new install of Windows 7 was done. Also my service provider has change and I no longer use the airport as my wireless router. I have all my data on the time capsule however I am unable to access it. I tried downloading airport utility for windows but its not detecting my time capsule. I am connecting the time capsule to my computer using the usb cable. Any suggestions?

That is not a valid method of connecting.. the TC is a network device.. you cannot use USB to it.
Plug it in by ethernet or use wireless.. either way it should be accessible by the airport utility.

Wireless printing from windows XP on HP1025 connected to time capsule

I have a new BUSINESS DEL laptop that I want to print from on my HOME Apple network.
My printer, HP1025nw, is directly network connected to the time capsule. Printing from iMac and MacBook is working OK, however I can not seems to get the DELL ( running XP ) to print.
Network setup on the DELL is OK, I'm connected wireless, can access internet, etc... no prolem there.
Any suggestions?

Load bonjour for windows..
Apple network resources are hidden from the PC.. without bonjour.. once you load that it should help.
If you still have issues.. how is the printer connected.. USB is the big issue one.
But if the printer is simply plugged into ethernet or wireless connected then the apple network is irrelevant. Just follow the HP instructions for installation of network printers.

I have partitioned my time capsule, as I want part of it to act as a media server for both mac and windows. However I don't know what format that I need to partition it to. I also can't make it a permanently accesible drive. I want to restore the drive to the original format (which I don't know) and start again and re-partition the drive in a format that can be used for media by both mac and PC and for time machine back-ups and make the media part of it permanetly accesible so I can add and acccess my files.

You are mixing up a couple of things here.
The TC drive cannot be partitioned without removing it.. did you do that?
If you partition it you must use a Mac disk utility and use the HFS+ ie standard Mac format. And GUID partition table not windows type.
You can select erase disk in the airport utility.. that will take the disk back to original format. No partitions. TC is deliberately not partitioned as it is not a media server.. it is a backup device for TM. Over time .. the disk will be filled with TM backups so you have a long history of file changes to your computer.
There is no media server in the TC.. it is merely disk storage.. you can serve files from it to a media device.. but the TC itself is dumb as dumb.
Now the actual format of the drive is irrelevant to the PC.. The TC offers SMB file services to the network. You can copy files to and from the TC as if it was a local disk without caring one iota about the format. The TC handles that .. it is not a local disk .. it is a network drive.
Although you cannot partition the TC. you can still copy files to it.. this does have implications for TM.. but as long as there is plenty of free space should not be a major issue.
You can create a disk image via the disk utility in a Mac.. and as stated you can create partitions if you do it on a Mac with the disk directly connected which means breaking warranty if any exists on the TC.
