Xfburn for XFCE4

Hi there, I just wanted to give xfburn a try, but i recognized that it was not in the repos. So i tried writing a PKBUILD for my self, but actually it wont compile.
Here is what i wrote
pkgname=xfburn-svn
pkgver=23953
pkgrel=1
pkgdesc="Xfburn, burning program for XFCE4"
url="http://www.xfce.org/"
depends=('gtk2' 'shared-mime-info' 'hicolor-icon-theme' 'libexif'

_svntrunk=http://svn.xfce.org/svn/xfce/xfburn/trunk/
_svnmod=xfburn
build() {
msg "Updating SVN entries for $_svnmod ..."
cd $startdir/src
svn co $_svntrunk $_svnmod
cd $_svnmod
msg "Finished update, starting build ..."
./autogen.sh
make || return 1
make DESTDIR=$startdir/pkg install
but it fails at ./autogen. could anyone try this PKGBUILD and eventually fix it?
thx

  • Looking for a POP mail checker for xfce4?

    Hi,
    Is there any pop mail checker for xfce4? Something like mail notification ( http://www.nongnu.org/mailnotify/ )?
    Oh, and I don't want to install gnome or kde stuff!
    Thanks.

    yes, for your proc-mail ^_^

  • How can I install 'fortune' for XFCE4's 'Tips and Tricks' on startup?

    There is an option (tips or fortune) for the content of 'Tips and Tricks' on startup, but actually no any 'fortune' texts supporting it. How can I make up?:rolleyes:

    Thank you VVVVV much! Not only I got the 'fortune', more important, the 'tips' can be displayed as well! (See another post http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=32960 , just wonder if it was too stupid to ask, otherwise why nobody has dropped a line on it so far)

  • Lock th desktop for users: enable kiosk mode in xfce4*SOLVED

    [In short]
    How to activate kiosk mode in xfce4, so end-user won't break the wm/desktop configuration we configured for many to use it ?
    [Detailed]
    I've decided my association's mates to choose Arch as our desktop PCs OS (we do this to provide basic Internet / office / image manipulations capabilities to the ~50 young workers we voluntary work for).
    PCs are PIII 800MHz with 256MB RAM & 7-10GB HD.
    On top of easy to configure & fast Arch Linux, I opted for xfce4 wm for the same reasons
    Now we configured grub bootscreen & xfce, with images made by our president (beeing a wonderfull graphist). Quite everybody find the beta PC fast, accurate, good looking and easy to use and so far enjoying the shift from previous win98 PentiumII PCs very much
    A few screenshots : the desktop ; Firefox & Gaim ; Gimp & gQview
    Now we couldn't solve 2 configuration's issues :
    - How to activate kiosk mode in xfce4, so end-user won't break the wm/desktop configuration we configured for many to use it ?
    Neither intensive reading of xfce4's doc nor googling for a couple of hours helped us activate it
    - auto(un)mount users usb stick : tried autofs that could do the job if we find how to show icons on xfce4's desktop (didn't search hard yet) ; tried ivman but actually didn't work.
    Do you have some tips to help us solve those 2 last issues ?

    Done
    kioskrc is to be located in /opt/xfce4/etc/xdg/xfce4/kiosk/kioskrc not into /etc/xdg/xfce4.
    Here our kioskrc which locks effectively any changes to xfce4 panel & desktop.
    As we customized them, I had to place our customized config files into /opt/xfce4/etc/xdg/xfce4/panel/ & ~/desktop/.

  • Xfce4-4.4 beta1 PKGBUILD and ask for testing

    Hi,
    I used my day off to move our xfce to the beta1 aka 4.3.90.1.
    Note that this stuff is far from perfect. Some modules moved
    into the xfce4 core packages some plugins are new some not
    updated yet, some have been abandoned and finally some are
    broken. I have no packages ready, but two directories of
    PKGBUILDs that *are supposed* to be able to be build by
    makeworld. SO anybody feeling adventurous, share your woes.
    http://arch.justdreams.net/xfce4-4.4-beta1/
    The tarball is the content of the whole directory bundled. To
    build this stuff follow this path:
    $ > su
    $ > pacman -R xfce4 xfce4-goodies
    $ > pacman -S a2ps cups dbh dbus gconf libxdamage libxpm libxcomposite dbus vte shared-mime-info libexif fam libglade libsigc++2.0 lm_sensors gnome-panel taglib
    $ > abs
    $ > cd $ABSROOT/extra
    $ > rm -rf xfce4
    copy the two directries xfce4-core and xfce4-goodies to $ABSROOT/extra
    $ > cd $ABSROOT/extra
    $ > makeworld -bci /path/to/final/packages xfce4-core xfce4-goodies
    xfce4-xmms2-client is in broken. It builds but it doesnt start
    successfully. So far it's the only package using xfc. So if you
    don't plan to try this stuff just delete xfce4-goodies/xfc. To
    build takes for ever.
    NOTE: the strange dependencies above come from:
    shared-mime-info libexif fam gconf: thunar
    libglade libsigc++2.0: xfc
    gnome-panel: xfce4-xfapllet-plugin (allows to run gnome-applets from xfce4-panel)
    taglib: thunar-media-tag-plugin
    Try it and lemme know your worries.
    Thanks,
       neri

    Ok, I've into into the difference between our work. Here is what I can say:
    +Packages are quite the same, wich is normal.
    +My packages did lacks some keywords, like the options=('NOLIBTOOL'), and 2 or 3things like that
    +Here some remark about your packages:
         -Most of the dependencies doesn't mention version numbers.*
         - Some of them doesn't feature md5sums*
         - For the panel, you can drop the xml2 dependency, since the new panel doesn't need this anymore.
         - For xfce4-ssesion, I use this arguments for the ./configure:
    ./configure --prefix=/opt/xfce4 --disable-legacy-sm --disable-gnome --with-shutdown-style=hal
    The last argument can probably be omited, but I would like the keep the other.
         - For the quicklauncher plugin, the comment say that it can display 4 launchers... This is false. In fact it can display as many launchers as you want. (sorry, but I'm the author of this plugin, so I can't do without mention it    )
    *Here is what I have for the dependecies and md5sums after "merging" our packages:
    [libxfce4mcs]
    +depends=('libxfce4util>=4.3.99.1' 'startup-notification')
    [libxfce4util]
    +depends=('glib2>=2.6.0')
    #the dependency is in fact about gobject-2.6.0
    [libxfcegui4]
    -depends=('startup-notification' 'gtk2>=2.6.0' 'libxfce4util>=4.3.99.1')

  • [SOLVED] Double Icon, xfce4-power-manager - Ideas?

    Hey all,
    Recently I've had this little launcher-like icon beside my power manager icon in xfce4.  I can't seem to get rid of it...and when you right-click on it, it's the exact same thing as the xfce4-power-manager icon.  If I try to click the "quit" option, it closes itself and the xfce4-power-manager.  It's like a double-icon for xfce4-power-manager that I can't seem to get rid of.
    So far I've tried deleting all of my xfce configs (rm -rf /home/<user>/.config/{xfce4,xfce4-session}) and it still shows up.  I've looked at the .xml files and they look fine.  So...I settled on just hiding the icon(s)...it only shows up as one icon to hide in the notification area preferences.
    Any suggestions/ideas on how to get rid of it?  Screenshot provided:

    The only other thing I can think of is you either have 2 instances of xfce4-power-manager running, or gnome-power-manager is trying to launch.
    Have you previously or are you currently starting gnome services at start up (Settings >> Session and Startup - Advanced tab)? If so, check the Application Autostart tab to see if you have both gnome-power-manager and xfce4-power-manager selected.
    Otherwise check to see if more than 1 instance of xfce4-power-manager is running:
    $ ps aux | grep xfce4-power-manager
    there should be too lines similar to the following:
    padfoot 2586 0.1 1.2 177036 12500 ? Ssl 16:51 0:03 xfce4-power-manager --restart --sm-client-id 263cc3d4b-0aaa-48ba-9bfe-14697576ae9f
    padfoot 2615 0.0 0.2 16680 2848 ? Ss 16:51 0:00 xfce4-power-manager
    Any more than that and you have more than 1 instance.
    Let me know
    Cheers.

    Gnome3 has it too, unfortunately it is lacking in customization. So is there anything like this for xfce4, without using keyboard shortcuts, or compiz?

    There's xfwm4-tiling in the AUR.
    Here's video of it in action.

  • How do I install XFCE4?

    I would think it would be something like "pacman -S xfce4", but after searching the older forum messages - it looks a lot more complicated than that.  One message looked like I had to download about 20 pieces and compile from scratch using "abs".
    Is there some kind of meta-package that will pull down the most common parts?
    I used fluxbox on Gentoo, and I saw that listed in the 'unstable' branch (ver 0.9).  After seeing some screenshots of XFCE4, it looked nice and lean, with just a few bells and whistles.  Since XFCE4 has it's own package section, does that mean it is the 'favorite' desktop on AL?  It looks nice.
    thx!

    Amazingly enough it is that easy.  'pacman -S xfce4' will install everything you need for xfce4.  There is a group now, and group support in pacman, for it.  The message you were reading probably was before group support existed.
    fluxbox isn't in unstable.  It's in extra.  That doesn't mean it's any less stable.
    PS: If you thought that would be the command to install it, why didn't you try it?

  • Xfce4-session-helper NOT FOUND

    After upgrading xfce4-session the other day,
    [PACMAN] upgraded xfce4-session (4.10.0-6 -> 4.10.0-7)
    These errors appear in syslog:
    Apr 29 13:27:56 arch-top slim[342]: (xfce4-session:397): xfce4-session-WARNING **: Unable to launch "xfce4-settings-helper": Failed to execute child process "xfce4-settings-helper" (No such file or directory)
    Apr 29 13:27:56 arch-top slim[342]: (xfce4-session:397): xfce4-session-WARNING **: Unable to launch "xfce4-settings-helper": Failed to execute child process "xfce4-settings-helper" (No such file or directory)
    They appear twice, together, like above (on startup).

    According to http://www.xfce.org/about/tour (one of the first hits for  xfce4-session-helper), this helper was merged into a settings daemon in 4.10. Either it's a bug or you have some leftover bits from 4.8.

  • Runlevel 3 for one user and 5 for the other...

    I want to set it up so that my wife, when she logs in goes straight into KDE as soon as she has logged in.  I want to, ideally, remain in a console after loggin in - is this possible?

    I don't know if this is exactly the proper way to do this, but you can put startkde at the bottom of your .bash_profile.  I think this file is executed/sourced every time you login.  It works for xfce4, it should for kde.
    EDIT:
    Also, if you wanted, you can create a .bash_login and simply add the following to the bottom of your .bash_profile
    [ -f ~/.bash_login ] && . ~/.bash_login
    which will check whether or not .bash_login exists, and if it does, it will source the file

  • Xfce4 SVN

    Yes I know there's a Xfce4 CVS PKGBUILD but since it's so outdated I desided to update it so it's again usable. I'm not entirely sure about the deps so if you find any missing ones please post it here.
    Please note that this package is not designed to be installed with other versions of Xfce. It may work and may not, most likely it won't so please remove any previous installations of Xfce.

    There are many posts here and elsewhere with people having trouble with FreeNX when using the *box and xfce window managers.  I have found out how to make them work very easily and thought I would post here instead of replying to multiple old threads.
    For the *box users I assume you are starting your X session by running startx, which parses .xinitrc which contains openbox or fluxbox commands.  The question is what commands do you use in the FreeNX client 'custom' setting to get it to work.  As most people have found, trying 'startx' or 'openbox-session' does not appear to work, and you either get a black screen, or it quits straight away.
    Openbox/Fluxbox
    Assuming you have FreeNX installed and have sorted out the keys/sshd stuff and can connect to the server, then:-
    -  Go to /opt/NX/etc and edit the file node.conf with your favourite text editor (as root).
    -  Find the setting #USER_X_STARTUP_SCRIPT about 3/4 of the way down.
    -  Remove the '#' from the front of the line and replace whatever is after the equal sign with .xinitrc
    USER_X_STARTUP_SCRIPT=.xinitrc
    Save file and close.  Thats it for the server.
    Now on the client end:-
    -  Configure your connection and under Desktop select Custom from the drop-down that contains KDE etc.
    -  Click on Settings and in the first group select the middle option Run the default X client script on server
    -  In the second group select New virtual desktop
    Click ok and try to connect.  Hopefully it should just bring up your desktop and start working.  I think this works for Xfce4 aswell if your .xinitrc contains the startxfce4 command.
    xfce4
    Since Xfce4 has its own startup script I also tried out another way and it worked fine.  All I did was edit the node.conf file again and replace the startkde command with startxfce4, and then just select kde from the dropdown on the connection dialog.
    /opt/NX/etc/node.conf
    replace
    #COMMAND_START_KDE=startkde
    with
    COMMAND_START_KDE=startxfce4
    Remember to remove the # symbol at the start of the line.

    Thanks for the info, Wittfella. I didn't know about the existence of FreeNX until this post! Good info to have. Perhaps you could add this information to the wiki page?

  • TightVNC on XFCE4

    ok so i've followed this guide http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Tightvnc and i can't get it working for XFCE4, it works great for GNOME as i tested but for XFCE4 i get the tips starting up in their normal window but behind looks like the chain-mail that X gives you and i get the mouse pointer looking like a big X
    does the wiki need updating?

    If you would like to remote into a machine with vnc and actually see and interact with the root desktop you can use x11vnc, which provides access to the root (:0) desktop by default.
    You've tried this?
