Xmx over 3G for a server app on x86 Solaris is buggy for 32bit app jre15?

Hi folks,
I am sorry for the cross-list, but a bit desperate for feedback.
One of my colleagues says that he thinks the Xmx=3000MB (but less than 4Gig) is buggy for a server side application.
I have searched the bug tracker and the forums and I can't find any reference to this.
Does anyone know if the server side applications can misbehave given such high memory parameter if being run in 32 bit mode ?
My server app start up parameters are:
-server
${MIN_MEMORY:+-Xms$MIN_MEMORY}
${MAX_MEMORY:+-Xmx$MAX_MEMORY}
-Xloggc:${LOG_DIR}/gc.log
-XX:+PrintGCDetails
-XX:+PrintGCTimeStamps
-XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC
where both MIN_MEMORY and MAX_MEMORY = 2500MB
using:
Java 1.5.0_09
on a
SunOS 5.10 Generic_120012-14 i86pc i386 i86pc
Please provide any feedback.
j.

Hi! I use Farfinder to connect my phone to my computer at home when I'm away and either need a document or need to email one to someone. Tom

This is a brand new, OS X Server 2.2, OS 10.8.2 installation. I migrated users, mail, calendar and wiki data over manually, but Profile Manager has not even been used (waiting for more RAM first). I even tried the reset procedure given by Apple here (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5349), but I'm still getting these errors in the Console.
Double-clicking any Group yields the message "Reading File Sharing settings" for nearly over 30 seconds before Server.app completes rendering the group and showing the group's members. The system.log error shown for that is:
    Jan  8 08:56:25 office.fireflyeducation.com.au servermgrd[3940]: nsc_smb XPC: handle_event error : < Connection invalid >
Since the error looks SMB related, and we have no need for that, I've ensured that "Share with Windows Clients" is unchecked for all of my three share points.
    What gives?

The single biggest mistake in your analysis is assuming that if Windows (or a Wii or an iPhone or whatever other device) can connect, your router is not to blame.
Though devices are designed to standards, there can be errors in implementing those standards or even simple software bugs that come into play.
The example I've used over and over again is say there is a bug where when the router is asked to add "2 + 3" it answers "5" but when asked to add "3 + 2" it answers "6."
If Windows only ever adds "2 + 3" but Mac OS X adds "3 + 2," it's not Apple's fault the router is incorrectly responding "6" in the later case.
But let's start with easier questions:
    1) Are you sure that no proxy is being used if one shouldn't be, and vice-versa?
    2) Are the DNS addresses shown in your TCP/IP settings the same regardless of whether you are connected via AirPort or Ethernet?
    3) Could there be some interference in the area you are using your Mac? Recall also that Mac and Windows PCs use different antenna designs, so what interferes with one may not affect the other.

  • Solaris v10 sparc jumpstart server on x86 solaris - can't find miniroot.

I am trying to setup a jumpstart install server on an x86 solaris v10 machine to do a sparc network install. I downloaded both the CD and DVD sparc v10 ISO's. When I mount the CD, the Solaris_10/Tools/Boot directory (miniroot system) is symlinked back to ../../../s1 which does exist. I can't find it on the CD, I've used prtvtoc and this slice does not seem to exist.
On the DVD iso, the directoy exists, but many files cannot be read, almost like the filesystem is corrupt.
I've download these ISO and burned them many times, so I know it's not an issue with hardware or the CD/DVD media.
Where can I download a working sparc solaris v10 miniroot system?

There is no such entry under solaris. This entry only exist on windows.
On solaris you need to change entries in the kjs script (prior to SP3)
    or iasenv.ksh (after SP3)

  • HT4886 When I go to download the server app am I going to have to pay for it?

I just purchased 3 MacMini Servers, I am going to make the volumes RAID, with that I need to reinstall, and go out and download the Server App.  Am I going to be required to pay for it, or will it somehow recognise that the computer came with the Server software on it originally?

If apple knew your Apple ID when you bought the servers, and you registered those computers with the same Apple ID, then it will automatically know that you are entitled to three copies of the Server app.
However, this often doesn't happen right because they didn't match up the Apple ID on the purchase.  So make sure you have your order number(s) for the three servers and phone Apple's support number for those sales (should be on the order acknowledgement) and they'll fix it for you over the internet.

I suspect the problem is to do with Kerberos and in relation to this server being an OD Replica.
I would really appreciate anyone's insight into this.
    Thanks

I have the same problem although I upgraded from Lion Server to Mountain Lion Server. The error appears to go hand in hand with this error.
userInit: CFPreferences: user home directory for user kCFPreferencesCurrentUser at /Network/Servers/fullyqualifieddomainname/Users/user is unavailable. User domains will be volatile.
I've read a number of things to try. A lot of people point to DNS being a problem, but I'm confident this is correct in my environment.

while trying to access my local network I get the message..."The page could not be opened because server cannot be found."  This, after updating to Yosemite and paying (again) for the server app.

It's absolutley scandalous that a company with Apple's resources can let this happen.  They should have staggered the release by region rather than opening the flood gates.  The upgrade itself took me about 10 attempts to download it, and then I thought I was home free.  That was until it rebooted and won't activate.  It's over 2 hours now.
    Scandalous!

  • Yosemite 10.10.2 server app. FTP help. I have a program running in my local server enviroment that wants to FTP to my mac folder. It asks for the server , name, password, port and path. what are they?

So I have set up a localhost area in my Mac. I have the new server.app and I am running yosemite 10.10.2 .
I have a program running in my local server enviroment that wants to FTP to my mac .
It asks for the server , name, password, port and path. what are they?
I am pretty certain that the Serveris "localhost",
Name is my macs name (like my-mac-min)
    password is "my login password"
    and they suggest port 21.
But what is the file path, lets just say my site is set up http://localhost/siteftp and is actually at my Users/Sites/siteftp folder.
Why cant this program connect to the mac.
Is it because they are both operating in the same localhost enviroment,
could it be my folder permissions are not correct on siteftp folder?
    Help please !

I tried turning the computer off and then back on. The alerts don't show the notice to update as resolved. Hopefully this is not a problem or an indicator or another problem. Should I ignore or reload 10.10.1 from the app store to trigger a resolved check in a green circle?
Interesting that I had to buy server software after my free Yosemite download. I would have hoped that the two pieces of software would have gone together without any complication. It is not positive to end up buying a problem. Ah well, time to move on.

  • Since Apple already has a SMS/MMS app for the iPhone, which can be used over WiFi, can the same app be installed on the iPad 2?

I have an iPhone 3GS, and realized I do most of my SMS/MMS messaging at home, when connected to my WiFi. Then I began to think, if I'm using the messaging app over WiFi, can the SAME app (which, personally I like much better than the third party apps) be installed on the iPad 2 (which I'm still waiting from back order)?

    Incorrect.
SMS/MMS is exchanged over the same network as calls.
"Dumb" phones or phones not in the smart category that don't have internet access in any shape, form, or fashion can exchange SMS/MMS.
Since SMS/MMS (a poor man's email with cell phones since it is very limited) is a cash cow for carriers and very profitable, why wouldn't cell phone carriers be interested in including SMS/MMS as an additional option (and of course at an additional expense) with a data plan only for the iPad? They certainly are interested in it but they can't since SMS/MMS is exchanged over the same network as calls.
Get me the IPAD SMS app
Take your whining someplace else. The self-entitlement displayed here by some is laughable.

Do you get any additional information in your app log?If so, can you post the message. We run on UNIX (solaris) here and ran into an issue with host-name resolution that turned out to be hostname cache problem. I don't know if you have similar on AIX.

  • 10.8: Setting cert server uses for remote Server.app

Setting up a 10.8 server from scratch.
I have a properly-obtained trusted cert, valid for more than one year, which is successfully installed on the server and appears in the cert pane in Server.app.  In the pane in Server.app the server is set to use it for everything.
I am trying to connect to Server.app on my server from a 10.8 client.  When I connect to it I'm told the server is untrustworthy and shown a self-signed root cert valid for one year.  I don't want the server to use this self-signed cert for that, I want it to use my trustworthy cert.  But I can't see where to change this setting.

Should anyone care, apparently if files like 0000_any_443_.conf are manually edited in any way Server.app punts the football & gives up with the above error. Seems like a hyper-sensitive hard-coded parser.
FWIW, I had only added 1 line defining the param ServerName since I was seeing errors like this in the log:
[warn] RSA server certificate CommonName (CN) `secure.mycompany.com' does NOT match server name!?
Defining ServerName squelched this warning but causes Server.app to pout.

  • How to design socket client-server app for 2-way communication

Hi, I am writing a client-server application. I have a single server and many clients. Each client will need the ability to send information to the server at any time. The server will also need the ability to send information to a client at any time. Its this second part that I am not sure how to design. Would I need to create a SocketServer on each client to accept incoming messages, or is there a better way? Thanks

    scranchdaddy wrote:
Don't my requirements sound a lot like an IM application, where a chat server might need to send a message to a chat client at any time? Not really. If that is what you are designing
in my opinion one could easily be forgiven for thinking you were deliberately obfuscating your goal...
How does the server know where the client is? Does it know the IP address of the client?I would imagine the server would contain a directory of IPs? I'm not sure.
What happens if the client is not running? Then I guess the message would not get delivered.
What happens if the client is behind a firewall that does not allow incoming connections? How do IM chat clients work? How have people solved this in the past?Typically the server would only care about clients currently connected to the server.
Maybe you should re-think your design. I don't really have a design, just requirements, that's why I'm writing this post.Your subject says "+How to *design* socket client-server app for 2-way communication+".
Are you saying you expect someone else to do the design for you?

  • Change credentials for connect to server app

I checked "remember password" while connecting to another PC. It could not because permission was not there for that credentials. Now i want to try with another credential but how to do it?? Its automatically trying with the remembered credentials.

This did not solve my problem. I had tried this before, it seems so that the (remote) Server app has no right to connect at all.
Just to let you know: I enabled Remote Apple Events, Remote Login and Remote Management on Server. And I run and addminister the server via Apple Remote Desktop.
Also the "Allow remote administration using Server" on the server App is set.
    Still, nothing solves this problem.

To check the local network for some of the common configuration problems, launch Terminal.app and issue the following diagnostic command:
    sudo changeip -checkhostname
That'll report some local configuration information and then either no errors detected and no changes required, or it'll point to whatever configuration errors or issues it might detect.  That doesn't catch everything, but it catches the common errors.
FWIW, 192.168.0.0/24 and 192.168.1.0/24 are poor choices for the local network, as VPNs are based on IP routing and IP routing gets tangled when the same subnet is used on both ends of the VPN. 192.168.0.0/24 and 192.168.1.0/24 are near ubiquitous in home networks and coffee shops.
