  • Owner's Manual for my Toshiba Satellite L755D laptop?

    I would like to d/l the owner's manual (and a service manual, if there is one) for my laptop (L755D-S5218). I didn't find it at the Toshiba site, and even their own "auto-detect utility" was run, but then the website said there isn't any product like that or something of the sort.
    Can anyone get me a link to this manual? The latpop itself isn't even a year old; I'm surprised that I'm having this much trouble.

    First, you have a copy of your User's Guide right there on your desktop.  Type User's Guide in  the Start/Search box and hit enter and there it is.
    Second, the Online copy is at this website which has all the details on your machine.
    You can find a repair manual of sorts at this site.

  • Windows Detected a hard disk problem Toshiba Satellite L505-S5988

    It has been about 2 months since I had my new laptop and first I coudnt get the flash cards to work so I finally fixed that and now everytime I start windows an error message comes up and keeps coming up every 10 minutes saying:
    Windows detected a hard disk problem
    Back up your files immediately to prevent information loss, then contact computer manufacturer to determine if you need to repair or replace the disk.
    -> Start the back u process
    -> Ask me again later
    Show details
     Which disk is failing?
    The following hard disk are reporting failure:
    Disk Name: Toshiba MK3263GSX
    Volume: C:\
    Please tell me how I can fix this because I called Toshiba support and the guy couldnt even figure out the drivers name for flash card.

    Thanks

    your hard drive is failing. you need to do what it says. back up everything and then either call toshiba to have it replaced under warranty or buy a new one and change it yourself. this is where all of your info and files are saved so if it fails without you backing it up you lose everything.

  • Help - Internal Microphone Problem Toshiba Satellite M305-S4910

    Hello,
    I really hope someone can help me.  2 days ago I bought a Toshiba Satellite M305-S4910 after reading rave reviews on BestBuy.com.    After attempting to use the internal microphone I discovered the following problem.
    When I am on a video chat, it sounds like there is a lot of static on the line.  As soon as I plug in a headset, the sound goes away.  I called best buy for the free 14 day support and they said I have two options.  Bring it in to exchange for a new laptop or PAY for a service person to come troubleshoot it for me.   I have spent the last 3 days transferring files, loading programs, and now I have just about everything set up on this laptop.  I do not want to go EXCHANGE it for a new one and do that all over again.  I can reload software if its something simple like that.  Does anyone have any ideas how I can diagnose and possibly repair myself?  Part of the reason I liked this one is the built in mic and webcam since I video chat A LOT!
    Thanks
    Kristine

    Hi,
    Since that the problem goes away with the use of external mic, it is very likely that the internal mic is malfunctioning or maybe a loose wire to the mic is causing the problem. Fixing these yourself means taking the notebook apart and possibly voiding your warranty.

    Hello,
    I'm fighting with my issue for two days but I'm not able to resolve that... Maybe you will able to help me...
    ...I bought HDMI cable to connect my laptop to TV. I've got the video but no sound. I tried to re-install drivers -audio and video- from Toshiba, Realtek sites, also tried install AMD Catalyst (looks like ccc is not fully supported by my laptop) but no success... (maybe I've used incorrect drivers..)
    ...In sys tray I can see HDMI device as default so everything seems to be fine. However if I try to test HDMI device in "Control Panel/Sounds" I've got message: "Unable to play testing signal" or something like that..
    ...tried to find anything about Audio in BIOS but there is nothing about that.
    I believe it's a driver issue but I'm not able?? to find the correct ones.

  • New computer nothing but problems Toshiba Satellite C855-S5308

    I like to bounce back and forth between IE and FF.  In both browsers I am having Java problems. For instance on a site today it had a blank page and told me I was missing a plug-in (Java Firefox). Sent me to update. I already did that. THREE times. In IE, it just has nothing on the page.
    On Safeway's website today I tried to use the ADD button to add something to my grocery list on their website. Nothing happened. I switched to FF and it was fine.
    Pogo and pages with graphics seem to glitch a lot for me as well.  I'm not sure what else to do.
    I have Windows 8 which sucks enough but all of this...I end up going to use my dad's old desktop just to do certain surveys or to shop.
    I bought this because my last two laptops were Toshiba and I loved them. I had the last one five years when it died on me...this thing is either a piece of garbage or someone needs to tell me what I am doing wrong.

    Can you check the laptop's full model and part numbers from the label on the bottom? Don't include the serial number.

How can I resolve this?

    What's your full model number? "L500" is only partial. Check the label on the bottom.
    You might want to enter Setup (the BIOS) and try resetting it to defaults. It should prompt you to press a button to enter Setup.

  • Fan for Satellite L755D

    I came into this Troubleshooting forum convinced I had a fan problem, but now I'm no longer convinced. My fan doesn't run at 100% or anywhere near that rate, but every minute or two I do hear it, at about the lowest level possible. It will run for about 10 seconds, then stop.
    I saw in the fan thread, that many were complaining that it was running at full power or close to it. I can guarantee you that this doesn't happen on my laptop; I have heard it get loud (when watching video), but that isn't what I'm writing about.
    Is the issue I'm having--many times a day--and I know this didn't happen with my old laptop.
    I'm wondering if this will wear down the fan prematurely? Or are fans nowadays built for this continual low-level on-and-off activity?
    I saw on the fan thread, that some had resolved thier issues with a BIOS update. The only BIOS version for my particular laptop dates to August, so I must already have it installed (I bought it in early October).

  • Satellite L755D - Data drive D partition is full

    I have a problem with the Data drive on my Toshiba Satellite L755D. It gets easily full.
    As it is now:
    (Translated from danish)
    Securitycopy of datafiles 40,18 GB
    System picture 106,26 GB
    Other files 15,08 GB
    Free space 71,52 GB
    I just erased one of the securitycopies of the datafiles, because there were only 21 MB free space left on the Datadrive.
    Why is there so much on the D-drive?
    And why does it get full, so often? It is really annoying.
    I have had a lot of other computers, but never had that problem before, I got this Toshiba.

    > On the D-drive there is:
    >080599-TOSH
    >HDDRecovery
    >WindowsImageBackup
    >MediaId(VLC mediafile)
    >R16554NH.tag
    The 080599-TOSH HDD Recovery is the mentioned HDD recovery folder.
    > WindowsImageBackup
    This could be an Windows image backup file. Possibly the automatic Windows backup is enabled which creates automatically the system backup on the partition.
    Should check the control panel (icon view)-> Backup & Restore
    There you should see if backup has been created.
    > But is it normal for a Toshiba computer to have a full Data drive?
    Normal? If you bought the notebook, the D partition was not full. The size of Toshiba HDD recovery folder is about 12GB-15GB.
    By the way: the partition size can be always changed using for example a tool called Gparted.
    Of course you can delete the files. But in your case I would create the Recovery Disks and Recovery flash memory stick before deleting the recovery files.
    In case you delete the recovery file, the HDD recovery would not function

    I did a fresh install on my new laptop Toshiba Satellite L850-1L1 following the beginners' guide.
    I am able to boot only with nomodeset in the kernel options.
    Then I can't startx. It hangs after "loading extension GLX".
    Instead of nomodeset, I tried as suggested in other posts vga=733 or vga=ask oracpi_backlight=vendor or video=SVIDEO-1:d
    The most I can get is a blind login. This time startx displays something (not understandable) and the system does not hang (I can switch to another console).
    As suggested in the guide I post some information:

    File does not exist

    I tried, but the guide is out of date:
    This article or section is out of date.
    Reason: catalyst-utils is not anymore in the official repositories. Possibly one has to install catalyst-total from aur to get the same, but I'm not sure
    And installing from AUR and having to rebuild at every kernel update is a nightmare.
    Maybe the only chance is trying to install directly from AMD.
    I'm using Arch since 5 years on a laptop with Nvidia graphic card, that died last week. I didn't know that ATI was so problematic with Linux.
    Hope to find a fix, otherwise I have to switch to another Linux distribution, and I really don't want to

  • Problem with brightness control on Toshiba Satellite R830 [SOLVED]

    Ever since I've been using Linux on my Toshiba Satellite R830 laptop I had problems with the brightness setting after wakeup from sleep. The solution I had found was to use a custom xorg.conf setup. Actually I was creating a 20-intel.conf file in /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/ with the following content:
    Section "Device"
    Identifier "card0"
    Driver "intel"
    Option "Backlight" "intel_backlight"
    BusID "PCI:0:2:0"
    EndSection
    This worked until today. Now I realised that Xorg is somewhat ignoring this configuration file. I looked in the wiki and this suggested that any such config files should be in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/. I copied the file there and rebooted. I opened a terminal and checked the value of /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/actual_brightness. Modified the brightness with the Fn + F6/F7 and checked again and it was controlling these.
    But after closing the lid and leaving it for a while, and wakeing up the PC the Fn +F6/F7 keys started controlling /sys/class/backlight/toshiba/ which never worked after sleep. Somehow on wakeup the custom config files are being ignored. It seems this is related to the upgrade to Gnome 3.16. I'm using linux-lts kernel.
    How do I make Xorg use intel_backlight instead of Toshiba for brightness control?
    Last edited by entodoays (2015-05-18 15:21:04)

    It seems that the culprit is /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gsd-backlight-helper. In this page: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=11910629 there's a procedure to patch the source file (for an older version). There's a section of the code like this:
    /* available kernel interfaces in priority order */
    static const gchar *backlight_interfaces[] = {
    "nv_backlight",
    "asus_laptop",
    "toshiba",
    "eeepc",
    "thinkpad_screen",
    "acpi_video1",
    "mbp_backlight",
    "acpi_video0",
    "fujitsu-laptop",
    "nvidia_backlight",
    "samsung",
    NULL,
    Patching this file, eliminating the toshiba device from the preferred list and adding intel_backlight to it might solve the issue.
    On another page, https://github.com/mate-desktop/mate-po … issues/135 they suggest another possible hack: changing the priority of device type
    file plugins/power/gsd-backlight-helper.c
    /* search the backlight devices and prefer the types:
    * firmware -> platform -> raw */
    path = gsd_backlight_helper_get_type (devices, "firmware");
    if (path != NULL)
    goto out;
    path = gsd_backlight_helper_get_type (devices, "platform");
    if (path != NULL)
    goto out;
    path = gsd_backlight_helper_get_type (devices, "raw");
    if (path != NULL)
    goto out;
    Changing the order to firmware -> raw -> platform would solve the problem for me too.
    Unfortunately I've never done any patching yet. How would I go about it?

  • Multiple Problems with Toshiba Satellite A505-S6980 laptop??

    Hi,
    We purchased the Toshiba Satellite A505-S6980 laptop at Best Buy about a week ago.  However, we seem to be having multiple problems with it, that I wouldn't have expected from a brand new Toshiba.
    Problems:
    Whenever I'm in Mozilla Firefox browser, it crashes 90% of the time.  Firefox was always my favorite on our previous computer, and still is, I just can't use it because it continually crashes.
    In Outlook, whenever I try to open a message or reply, or basically any general command, it pops up an error message that says, "Could not install the custom actions," and then does whatever I'd wanted it too.  It's a pain, as we do a lot of email and calendar through Outlook.
    In Outlook, when I tried to import our Contacts, it says that we do not have the appropriate permissions to access the files.  We are the only user account on this computer.  We don't do seperate ones for each family member; we just turn on the PC.
    It seems to me like the internet crawls on this computer.  Every time we try to play a video (e.g. ABC, CNN, Youtube), it won't buffer.  It just stops and starts all throughout the video about every 3 seconds.  HUGE nuisance.  We watch a lot of videos.
    Minor issue:  In Firefox, before it has crashed that is, on my old computer I used to be able to type "cnet" without the quotes into the address bar, and it would take me to www.cnet.com.  If it couldn't find the page, it would take me to my default search engine's page (Yahoo) with the search results.  On this one, if I type anything into the address bar (like search terms/keywords) it bring up search results with a My Start Incredimail search engine.  I want my Yahoo search engine, and I want it to find the page if it can.
    I cannot seem to get the Aero Flick (I think) to work.  That was one of the main things I was looking forward to, but I can't figure out how to do it.
    It seems to me like the Windows Explorer freezes a lot.
    There have been multiple times when I'm typing that the keys don't work.  Like I would have to press the A key about 10 times to get it to show up on the screen once.  It's hit and miss and doesn't do it all of the time.
    This isn't a problem - just a question.  Is it best to leave the computer plugged in all of the time if it's stationary?  Or once it's fully charged, should I unplug it and let the power run down, and then re-charge it?
    **CLARIFICATION:  It's not Outlook Express, it's Microsoft Office Outlook 2007.  The one that you have to pay for.  Surely it works with 7, considering it's Microsoft?!?!
    If you can help me answer any of these problems/questions, I would really appreciate it.
    Have a safe and Merry Christmas!

    Yes, everything was fine with Firefox.  However, I have uninstalled it, and am just using Internet Explorer for now.
    Thanks for battery info...
    I'm well within the return window, but overall really like the laptop.  I've put a lot of time into it, and just want it to work right if possible.
    Thanks for the info.
    ScottinFla wrote:Concerning Firefox, have you checked your add-on list for any faulty plug-ins or extensions? Try disabling them and see what happens. Also, that search engine you mentioned may have somehow been installed on your machine. Have you checked the "Manage search engines..." window available from the search bar? Check your add-ons as well. You could always reinstall Firefox from scratch.
    As for the battery, it may not be best to continually run down the battery - followed by a long charge. Once a month or so should be fine. Otherwise, just try to give the battery some exercise every now and then.
    Are you still within the return window? Your unit may have a bad install, some bad RAM, or...
    I have the same model and it works just fine.

  • Toshiba Satellite battery/AC problems?

    After days of agony, I broke down and order a new AC adapter and battery for the Toshiba Satellite from Amazon (which cost about $20 for both, new, including free shipping; Toshiba wants over a $100 for the battery and nearly the same for the AC adapter). Anyway, I also ordered new systems recover disks (which cost more than both the above two items). After going through hell--since the instructions on the disks didn't work--I finally got the new system installed--no thanks to the instructions. But the problem is this: when I boot up with just the battery, everything works fine. When I tried booting with the AC adapter plugged in, it doesn't boot up. Both the battery and AC adapter are new. What's going on?

    yes, unfortunately Peter. But it's not worth it. New ones are about $329 at Office Depot and it still works in Safe Mode with Networking with the AC plugged in--which makes me think it's a driver problem. Ah well, It's a better option than having it serviced.

    Hello first of all having a good day, four months ago a problem with my laptop toshiba satellite l655-5144 I have something crazy ,happens that when starting Windows 7/8 freezes there and I can not access windows, I thought it was an error of hdd, but I think I'm surprised that it is not, since changing the hdd and still gives the same problem of being paralyzed in Home windows, all this began to update the BIOS to version 2.8 that turned out to be the operating profit that was for windows 8, not sure if this is due to the problem but I've tested the ram, hdd, cpu, etc and everything about the hardware works well and gives no problems, I think that the problem was caused by updating the BIOS to version 2.8, my question is whether you can return to the factory version was 2.2, or at least the previous version to 2.8 which was the one I worked thanks for your answers and spend time helping me, is the agradesco much.
    And sorry for my bad English.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello and thank you for coming to see the problem I had with my laptop, that seems to fix the problem so far, I hope q not refreeze operating system again, and I could restore the BIOS to version in which was when purchased.
    If anyone has the same problem as I leave then follow these steps:
    1.Find BIOS version with which acquired the laptop
    2. Use of mnetodo booted by CD.
    3. Insert the CD from the boot.
    4. Upon resumption of the program ran hidden PC (that I saw no message)
    5. After restart, windows restart again and enter the bios to see if it had changed the version of this and it turned out was successful.
    Well I hope this problem the laptop again, and thank you for deigning to read at least my problem.
