XP clients can't see printers made available via Print Services on 10.4.10

Hi
Having problems attaching XP clients to an HP4730mfp via Print Services on OS X Server 10.4.10.
I've enabled SMB and LPR for the required queue but when browsing for the printer on an XP machine, while the print server is listed, no printers are available.
I have tried enabling Bonjour and running Bonjour for Windows and, while it claimed to have set up correctly, a print job completes successfully on the XPP machine but never arrives at the print server, let alone the printer.
Any suggestions?

I do not have guest access on, because I want to monitor who is printing, but also have no file shares either - I want to keep separation between file and print servers.
Finally found an (the?) answer.
1. Set up a standard TCP/IP port pointing to the IP address.
2. When the "Additional port info required" message turns up, choose 'Custom'.
3. Set to LPR (and tick 'LPR Byte Counting Enabled" - optional?)
4. Continue...
Strangely, this didn't appear to work will SMB was enabled in the print queue but it did when the queue was LPR only (maybe I just imagined that).
Not the best solution but it works for my situation.

  • Can't see printers in cups 1.5

    Hi,
I have cups 1.5.4 installed and Samsung ML2510 printer which is running (I could print test page), but I can't see my printer in my network.
What can I do for detecting the causes of this problem?
    Thanks in advance,
    Xan.
PS: Please don't say that I have to upgrade to cups 1.6, because I have to have CUPS protocol, and not avahi protocol.

thanks, jasonwryan, but I but clients.conf pointing to my server, I get the same result: I can't see printers.
The configuration is in the client:
    $ cat /etc/cups/client.conf
    # see 'man client.conf'
    #ServerName /var/run/cups/cups.sock # alternative: ServerName hostname-or-ip-address[:port] of a remote server

    In the server:

  • 10.5.8 iCal clients can't see additional Wiki Calendars

We just implemented a company wide iCal Server solution on 10.6.3 server (although just updated to 10.6.4 with no difference).
Most of our clients are 10.5.8 (iCal 3.0.8 - 1287). We've setup about 4 or 5 wikis, each with calendars and setup each user's iCal with additional CalDAV accounts for each Wiki Calendar, with URLs in the form of
    http://server.example.com:8008/principals/_uids_/wiki-<wikiname>/
Now, within each Wiki/Group Calendar account, there might be multiple calendars. It seems that 10.5.8 clients can only see events in ONE of these calendars, whereas 10.6.x clients can see everything! User credentials seem irrelevant, it's just down to the OS/iCal version.
At first, I thought it might just be the primary calendar (/calendars/_uids_/wiki-<wikiname>/calendar) as opposed to the secondary ones (/calendars/_uids_/wiki-<wikiname>/87263455-a895-dfg3-23456789). However, even that is not the case. I can't seem to find any pattern to dictate why some show and some don't.
Now these 10.5.8 users can create events in the calendar whose events they can't see, but then others can't see those events. I've dug around in /Library/CalendarServer but I can't seem to find anything about event level ACLs. Am I misunderstanding how this should work? Is this a limitation of 10.5.8 iCal? Is anyone else experiencing this?

I'll just add that when users view the calendars via the web, all events show up perfectly.

  • Have AirPort Utility ver 6.1. Can't see printers or external hard drives. I could in earlier version. What gives?

With Airport Utility ver 6.1 can't see printers or hard drives. Dont' even see where to go for those screens. Was much easier in earlier versions. Question: How do I setup ext hard drives and printers in ver 6.1?

You don't need to "see" the printer for it to operate correctly using AirPort Utilty 6.1. If the printer was previously installed, it should continue to operate correctly. If you have a new printer, just install the device according to the manufacturers's instructions.
As far as being able to "see" a disk in AirPort Utility 6.1. Try the following:
Open AirPort Utility, click on the AirPort device, then click Edit in the next box that appears.
Click the Disks tab at the top of the setup window.

    Hello,
There are no files like that in that folder (com.apple.safari).  They all have long numbers with .jpeg or .png at the end.  That's what I meant by I cannot find any files like those mentioned in all the helps I read today.  BTW-it's still crashing - no particular pattern to it at all.
The only two things I have downloaded recently is a new version of Flash and a Mac-driven update to Office.
Thank you very much for your attempt to help us.

Can data be loaded in BPC via eSOA Services? If so, how?

Data can be loaded in BPC via eSOA Services.
To explain how to do that you first should have the public interface which can be provided on request by support(help desk)
You will see all the public interfaces which can be called from application server and you will be able to see some functions from data manager.

  • How can I see the MAD results in my planning book

    Hello Gurus:
I'm setting up some statistical models in APO DP and running some test data through them.  How can I see the results of the MAD to verify if the models are calculating correctly?  I was hoping I can see the monthly MAD values in a key figure in my planning book?
    Does anyone know?
    Andrea

    Hello Andrea,
As far as I know, I don't think there's a standard key figure or macro could acheive this.
MAD or other errors in forecast are not saved as time series, so I don't know why you want to see them as time series.
You can see the forecast errors in forecast result screen, and if you push comparision button, you can see forecast errors for several last runs.
But I don't know how to put these value into planning book, unless you want to apply your own logic ...

  • OS X Server Primary Domain Controller - Win XP clients can't add printers

    Hello all,
I have a Xserve set up as a PDC with Open Directory / File / Print services running. I have set up a test client, a Windows XP box, with a test user, and it authenticates fine, logs in, directories are mapped, life is good
When I browse to the Printers on that server and go to "Connect" on any print queue I get the following:
"A policy is in effect on your computer which prevents you from connecting to this print queue. Please contact your system administrator."
The print queues were set up in Server Admin as IPP / SMB / LPR + Bonjour shares. We don't really care who prints to what printer on our network, so access rights aren't a big deal.
Ultimately I would like a user to login and these printers just be setup automatically via a login script, but I can't even do that until this is sorted out. Any ideas?
Thanks for your time and assistance

...Someday I'll be an expert at this Mac Server + Win Client stuff, just not today

  • Can't see printers on TC

I have a TC connected by ethernet cable to my main wireless Linksys router. The first iMac is attached to it via ethernet cable. The second iMac ws just added and is attached to the Linksys router via ethernet cable. There is an HP Laserjet 5M attached to a LAN port on the TC. There is also a USB color printer attached to the USB port on the TC. The new iMac can not see the HP Laserjet 5M at all. It can see the USB printer just fine. Thinking two routers may cause some unusuall things to happen on the network, I decided to set the TC as a bridge. When I set it in this manner I get the following error:
"Advertising a service globally using Bonjour requires a global hostname."
In order to get Time Machine running again and network operations back to some degree of capability, I have rolled the 7.6.3 firmware back to 7.6.1.
It appears I can't share an ethernet capable printer on the network with the TC as a router or as a bridge. Do I need to throw it out and get some real network equipment? I hope to stay the course but am losing patience with Apple. Is there anyway to get access to my printer using a TC?
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
    Cy

Your assumption is correct, it is not possible to have everything connected to the Linksys. I think there may be a misunderstanding. The original and current setup in play is that the TC is set to join the current (Linksys) wireless network.
This is your problem.. I thought you had ethernet connection..
You have used join a wireless network.. TC does not change to router.. it changes to nothing much of anything client mode.. In other words, the TC is now a dumb client of the Linksys.. ethernet is turned off.
    HP        169.254.111.121
    Mac1     169.254.215.89
Hence these are self generated IP addresses. Not allocated by Linksys or TC.
You simply cannot mix apple and non-apple routers in this way.. apple wireless bridge is only for other apple apple routers.
You must connect the two devices by ethernet or ethernet equivalent.. like Homeplug (EOP adapters).
Or you must buy another apple router to introduce it as a WAP plugged by ethernet into the linksys to make the wireless bridge to the TC.

  • VPN clients can't see network resources unless Firewall is disabled.

If the firewall is turned off, connected VPN clients can access other PCs over the VPN. But I would like to enable a rule that allows them to access computers even with the firewall turned on. I just don't know what the rule should be.

  • XP clients can't see domain

Hi, I've a new Xserve which I'm setting up as PDC for our domain. Am able to authenticate and bind OSX clients, but XP clients don't see the domain at all. I've set up the users in WGM. When I try to add the XP clients to the domain I just get "windows cannot find an account on the domain CFC". Have I created the file share incorrectly for the profile?
Here's the SMB log file. I know it's probably something silly, but any help would be much appreciated!
    Thanks

" '/99' does not exist or permission denied when connecting to administrator Error was No such file or directory"
This has to do with an account missing a homefolder (probably is set to "none") or has no permission to use it.
"in network settings on the server, DNS is set to local loopback 127.0.0.1, and also the other 2 DNS servers provided by my ISP. I had 'search domain' set to the FQDN - is that a bad thing?"
The server and LAN clients should use only the server private IP as the DNS.
On the server 127.0.0.1 works too but add ISP DNS as forwarders in DNS settings instead.
Your ISP DNS doesn't know about your private IP LAN IPs/names.
Search domain should be only your domainname (really <domainname>.<tld>) and also in DHCP for clients.
In Sharing PrefPane I use the hostname without the domainname.
Search domain "autocompletes" when you from a client use only the hostname the domainname is added automatically : <server> => <server>.<domainname>.<tld>
(What's a bit confusing is if you do "hostname" in the Terminal/CLI you will get the FQDN)

  • Windows 7 client can't connect to Server 2008 R2 Print Server VM (ESXi 5.5)

I have an issue today that is driving me bonkers.
I recently came on-board to a company in my area as the system administrator and this network has everything and the kitchen sink wrong with the network layout, probably the worst I've seen and I'm slowly but surely fixing it day by day.....
Well today I decided I was going to spin up another VM from a template and make a Print Server, seems harmless right? --- I thought so too, added all of the printers to the server and did test pages, all was dandy, but then I tried to add the printers to
clients and other server and the real fun has begun, I'm truly perplexed now...
I added a VM to my esxi 5.5 cluster at work that is a 2008 R2 server with only print management on it. I can map all of the printers on the network to the print server as-well as install the drivers correctly and I can resolve the IP and server name via
DNS. I can test printers directly from the print server successfully printing out test pages however whenever I try to map printers you know from the directory in 'devices and printers' from any of the Windows 7 clients or any of the other 2003/2008 servers
I get the classical "Windows cannot connect please check the network connection and make sure sure the printer is turned on". I disabled the windows firewall and I made the point to print GPO set to disabled and still no luck. Again I can print to
all of the printers internally inside of the VM (so I know it communicating to all of the printers), I just can't connect to the printers listed in the directory on any of external desktop/client, it's like so annoying. spent about 6 hours until my brain just
couldn't think anymore, was about to go BS on the VM.
The only thing I can think of, as I was driving home, is that there is a GPO on one of the DC that has a desginated print server policy set. But prior to last week the forest leve was 2000 and now it's 2003. I just don't know Server 2000 enough to know if GPO's
worked in the same way they do in 2003.
Right now printers are connected to other servers in a ad hoc mentality it seems, there has never been a true print server.
Anyone ever have this problem before?
    I'm truly puzzled...

    Hi Mid.Hudson-IT,
Before we begin ,we should ensure we have configured the printer server correctly .
Here is a link for reference of configuring the printer server .
Print server role: Configuring a print server
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc775791(v=ws.10).aspx
"I can map all of the printers on the network to the print server as-well as install the drivers correctly and I can resolve the IP and server name via DNS"
From this sentence ,I can`t figure out whether you have tried to ping the server both with the IP adress and name adress from the client ?
If we can ping the print server from the client,we can ensure the connection to the printer server is good .
Then we can try to install the printer driver directly to have a check .In the adress bar of Windows Explorer ,input "\\server name \the printer name"
If we cannot ping the print server ,we should troubleshoot the network issue firstly.
We also can check the event viewer for more information to troubleshoot this issue .
    Best regards

  • Installed MacMini server and can't see hard drive on wireless printer

Hi, all, I installed a MacMini 10.6 server on Tuesday and am having an issue communicating with my printer. We have a wireless office and have a Toshiba printer and scanner connected to a wireless bridge which is then connected to our Airport Extreme. The set up has been very efficient for our small group.
Before the server was installed and connected via CAT5 cable to the Airport we were able to scan using our printer and see the stored files on the printers built in hard drive. But since the server was installed, we can print, but we can't see the hard drive on the printer.
What do I need to do in order to see that hard drive again?
    Thanks
    Ron

If you want to try to replace it yourself, [iFixit has good repair guides|http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repair/MacBook-Air-Hard-Drive-Replacement/86 0/1].
As I take the parts out, I tape them to a piece of paper with clear packaging tape and write the step number (and screw color from guide) next to them. Making sure you've got the correct tiny screw in the right place is a bugger without doing that.
