Xserve G5 hangs after attempting remote reboot
I've had this problem for a while now, although it didn't exist when I first set up the Xserve. When I try to reboot the server, by logging in using apple remote desktop, and selecting "restart" from the apple menu, it appears to shut down, and then on restart, the Xserve's fans run full speed, stay that way, and the OS never starts up. It's a real problem especially if I'm off-site and I do, for example, a software update, and then reboot - because it means I have to drive in just to power it down and power it up again. This usually solves the problem - but sometimes not the first time. Sometimes I have to power down, power up, wait 5 min to find out it's still not started up, then power down again, then power up again, and then it usually boots fine.
here is what the system log shows:
ANY thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I tried calling Apple of course but they wanted $5,000 just to hear my question.

The last line or two are your clues. There is something located in your /System/Library/StartupItems/AuthServer folder that is causing you to crash when it executes a script.

JWS hangs after method remotely called - RMI
Does anyone else have problems with bugs that only appear when running under Java WebStart and doesn't throw any exception, just hangs and you end up with nothing but a grey screen on the application and the console?
I have a swing application and it communicate with another host . The communication appears to be working fine, since some methods are called on the application with no problems. The problem happens when one of those methods starts a thread, and inside the thread, a panel is shown. Running outside of the JWS, it runs ok, in JWS, it hangs before the panel is shown. Acctualy, it hangs after a object instantiation ( a new String("") ). If I remove the object instantiantion, it goes a little further, but eventually hangs.
I'm using version 1.4.2_03 . The application has 5 signed jars and the java.policy file has been changed to :
grant {
permission java.security.AllPermission "", "";
What could be causing this behavior inside the JWS? Why no exception is thrown and instead, I got a grey screen?
Thanks in advance.
Paulo KoldaevAlready did that. The console hangs as well, turning grey too. No exception is thrown. Maybe it hangs before flushing, but doesn't look like it...
I have executed the application in webstart in linux, and it worked fine. The bug only appears in windows.
Didn't test it long enough to be sure, but I think it really only happens in windows. Running outside the webstart, it runs in windows too without problems.
Is there a way to debug that kind of thing?
Is there a tool like webstart to keep the application up to date with a server, but running inside a normal VM ? The sandbox idea of webstart is good, but to some applications, it causes more problems than solutions, and even with the "security - all permissions" some things are still not quite the same as just the VM.
Thanks

Xvnc hangs after exiting Remote Desktop session
After closing a window of Remote Desktop session with XFCE Desktop run on latest ArchLinux, XRDP server exits, but Xvnc server started by that session keeps running, and within 5-10 min starts suddenly putting high load on CPU, while doing nothing useful.
Why this happen, and how to auto close it when closing Remote Desktop window & session? While the hang reason is still unknown, I found that login out of XFCE from within open XRDP session window before closing the session will shutdown relevant processes on the server host, including Xvnc.

IPhoto 9.2.1 hangs after attempting import from cameras
As soon as I attempt to import from cards or cameras iPhoto hangs, and can't be successfully lauched until after restart.
If I move files from card to desktop, they can be imported without a problem.
I don't have d3xv, tried creating new library, need the rebuild photo library options, removed plist, etc.
Any ideas???

Upgrade to Solaris 10/08 hangs after reboot
I upgraded to Solaris 10 10/08 however the system hangs after reboot.

Both kernel debugger and single user mode do not work.
This seems like a serious issue in my opinion. -

Hi,
my HP DL160 runs fine with Solaris 10, but you can't do a soft reboot, because it won't boot Solaris after that (hangs after loading kernel). I think it's because of a ATA Bug, but nothing has helped to solve the problem (done the ata-revert-to-defaults=0...etc.).
Can someone please help me?
Byecan you please help by guiding us what really need to be done? i have the same problem on the same model of machine. tq

Hang after reboot ( Bootcamp Assistant )
I have a mac, which I want to install Windows to.
After running the bootcamp assistant, my mac reboots, and then hangs.
If I reboot again, into the startup menu, I see two DVD disk's. One called Windows and one called EFI something. If I choose the EFI something, I get into the windows installer, but it will not let me install to the bootcamp partition. If complains about a mix of partition types. If I choose the Windows disk, I am told there is not bootable device.
If I remove ALL partitions form the harddrive, using the windows diskpart utility, then I can install windows. But that is no great help, since I also want OSX.
I am running 10.8.2, and have triede both Windows 7 and Windows 8.The EFI option is the wrong option to choose, you need to choose the Windows option. But because you used diskpart on the disk, which doesn't understand hybrid MBRs, you no longer have the proper hybrid MBR. That's what Boot Camp Assistant creates, and any other tool on the planet has a high chance of damaging.
So you need to use Disk Utility to create a single new partition, meaning go to the Partition tab, click "1 partition" instead of the default "Current" option. Install OS X. And then follow the Boot Camp guide step by step. -
System rebooting and hanging after installing Radeon Drivers
Hello, I have a MSI VIA KM266 motherboard with onboard video. Whenever I install a video card in the AGP slot and install the latest display drivers for my Radeon 8500 (i've even tried a Geforce card with the latest drivers) the system will randomly hang, crash, bluescreen, or reboot. I have the latest bios which are version 1 (ms-6738). I'm not using any device in the PCI slots either. I've got 256 MB of DDR ram, 40 gig Maxtor HD, and 8x ACER cd burner. It's running on a clean install of WinXP Pro. I'm running out of things to try. On the other hand, if remove the video card and run the onboard video, the system runs fine. Can anyone help me??
Sorry the CPU is a AMD XP 2200+ that runs at 1.8 GHz. Not sure about the max amps though. How can I find out.
Thanks! -
IPhone Remote app hangs on Verifying Remote Password
When connecting to iTunes 7.7 Mac or PC from an iPhone 3G using the Remote app iTunes wont accept the passcode that the iPhone displays. It just hangs after entering the 4 digits, times out and request them again.
What I've found is that this seems to only happen if you access iTunes via an Apple Extreme - if I go via a non Apple WiFi access point it works fine every time. Web access etc from the iPhone via the Extreme seems fine. Both PC's are connected to the network via wired connections , one via the inbuilt (non GB) switch on the Extreme. . If I enable the inbuilt WiFi on the Mac it seems to work OK too via the adhoc. However switching back to wired it fails again , unless it's via the non Apple access point. I don't believe this is a firewall issue.
nullI too have spent a lot of time trying to get this working and so far I've had success. I'm running iTunes 8.0.2.22 on 64-bit Windows 7 Beta Build 7000. Some of what I did was taken from another reply to this thread and I'm not sure exactly what did it, but I had tried everything I could think of. Here are the steps I took:
* Reset router
* Ensuring media sharing was on in Control Panel/Network and Sharing Center
* Removing the remote app from the iphone and then reinstalling from the app store DIRECTLY on iPhone
* Added Inbound AND Outbound firewall rules (Windows Firewall\Advanced Settings) for TCP AND UDP ports 3689 and 5353
* Added Inbound AND Outbound firewall rules for Bonjour AND iTunes applications
* Reboot computer
* Launch remote app on iPhone and bring it to the 4 digit code screen
* Launch iTunes
So far so good. The configuration has been working since I completed all of those steps even once the iPhone has been powered off and back on. Some of those steps might not be needed but I was at a complete loss as to why iPhone Remote wouldn't work so I went overkill with the troubleshooting. -
2009 Xserve no boot after configuring LOM
Got a used 2009 Xserve 2 x 2.26 Quad that i just purchased. Fresh install of OS X 10.10. Running off internal SSD.
Currently no drives loaded in the bays.
Installed "Server" app, configured an working like a champ, running for 2-3 days.
Earlier today i configured LOM, the system remained to work as per normal as it has for the past couple days.
Had to reboot the machine before, after that it is absolutely useless, on startup it gets about 1/3 of the way along
the loading bar (on yosemite boot screen), and hangs there, have reset SMC, tried to reset NVRAM via the front buttons but
i cant tell if it was successful - see below.
Ive also tried to boot via a USB with Yosemite install on it - no go.
Disconnected and SSD and fitted HDD to a bay with a fresh working volume on it - no go.
Unsure about the function of Startup Method selection and operation though, I've selected the modes i want, then held the system identifier
button until the top row it lit up, let go of the button and then nothing happens, system doesn't turn off/restart in to that mode, it just appears to hang
after that selection. Is this right?Eventually it booted from a USB drive and allowed me to reinstall OSX.

Many programs hanging after computer wakes up from sleep
Hi!
Since teh upgrade to Snow Leopard (10.6) I experience many hang-ups / freezes on a variety of programs. I have traved this to I think only happenening after the MacBook has been sleeping. So put to sleep, wake up again, and at least the following froze (all have latest updates installed):
- Photoshop CS4 (hangs on welcome screen saying "Measuring Memory")
- Adobe InDesign CS4 (starts, becomes sluggish, and hangs when opening files or latest when trying to close requiring force quit; then doesn't start again)
- Adobe Illustrator CS4 (opens but freezes when trying to open a file)
- iTunes (never comes up, just keeps bouncing in the dock until the cows come home)
- Aperture 2.1.4 (shows splash screen and hangs then)
All work well after a fresh boot.
However, when I then try to restart the machine, it hangs before rebooting (my desktop background is still there, all other things gone, such as dock, menu bar etc). I have to switch it off the hard way (power button 5 sec or so) and restart. Then all works well until next sleep.
If anyone has ideas how to get around this I'd love to hear the answer. If you carry the MacBook around a lot, always rebooting makes it feel worse than Windows...
Cheers,
HendrikSimilar sort of problem. iPhone will not wake my iMac from screen save using iPhone "Remote" and when I wake my iMac manually, iTunes reports that it cannot connect to my Airport Express, which I use a remote music player. If I go into the speakers pull down at the bottom right of the iTunes screen, I can immediately reconnect to the Airport Express by manually clicking to change it from "Computer". Both the Time Capsule which sends the wireless signal to the Airport Express and the Airport Express itself are showing green lights. The Time Capsule is connected wired to my my iMac. This system all worked well on 10.5.8. I had expected it to be better in Snow Leopard with remote wake from sleep. I am also getting various random hangs after updating to 10.6.1 and HP drivers 2.1. Syslog shows this often to be TWAIN related or HP printers. Not good at the moment. Spoke to Applecare yesterday and they had no constructive suggestions other than to reformat my hard disc and start from scratch - yea right. I have reinstalled SL and reupdated with no improvement.

Satellite U400-22n and Win7 - screen hangs after 5 min
Hi, This is my first post
Ive purchased a new U400 with Vista preinstalled, last week ; 2 days ago Ive upgraded to windows 7 32bit professional when I stared Installing it windows prompted me that it requires a full installation , so I done a normal full install, windows 7 installed normally .
Now my screen hangs after 5 min and windows gos black and reboots after 3-5 min, Ive downloaded all the drivers from the Toshiba site Ive used the auto detect, and installed the drivers one by one and tested if the reboot stops , Ive reinstalled windows now 4-5 time returned my copy to the shop and got a new copy of the windows DVD, its the same,
Please has some one any advice for me. As the shop Ive perched this from will not upgrade to windows 7 for me.hi Mather,
any bluescreens visible?
win7 32bit i guess...
you have to install all the drivers for win7 provided by toshiba in the right order!
first chipset and patchfiles if available...
i think a clean install will do the job!
make sure that the hdd is error free!
you can upgrade from vista 32bit to win7 32bit
but no chance to upgrade to a win7 64bit when a vista 32bit is installed... -
Am facing issue on my iphone 5s after updating to ios 7.1.1, every while the phone hang after lock it and cannot unlock and even cannot turn on the screen this is so annoying, kindly advice if i have to go back to the store as device still under warranty, and if its a hardware issue or software ??
Hello HaithamOkeely,
We've an article that provides the following troubleshooting steps that may help stabilize your iPhone.
If the device is unresponsive or if certain controls aren't working as expected, restart your device.
If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on), reset your device.
If there is no video or if the screen remains black, verify that the device has enough charge to turn on:
If you are using an iPad, ensure that it's connected to the USB Power Adapter supplied with the device.
Let it charge for at least twenty minutes, then see if it starts normally.
If there is no image on the screen, press the Sleep/Wake button to attempt to wake the device.
If the screen displays a red battery icon, continue charging the device until the battery is fully charged. Learn more about charging iPhone and iPod touch, or iPad.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or the if the screen remains black or shows a persistent Apple logo, try restoring with iTunes:
Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane. Learn more aboutrestoring iOS software.
If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try to force the device into recovery mode, and then restore it.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, contact Apple.
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
