XServe running MS Windows 2003 server + MS SQL 2005

I am planning to deploy 3 XServes,
One running Windows 2003 Server + MS SQL 2005
the other 2 runnung Windows 2003 Server + MS Terminal Server
Wonder if there's anyone can share the experience for the above configuration?
Rgds,

Digging around Macbytes.com, I came across this article:
http://weblog.infoworld.com/enterprisemac/archives/2006/12/killtwowindow.html
To quote:
"I have tested, and continue to run in a production setting, two instances of Windows 2003 Server hosted by Parallels Desktop, running on OS X Server 10.4.8 on a 3 GHz Xserve. To skip to the punch line, it works, and it's as fast as all get-out."

  • Oracle discoverer 9i can not running at windows 2003 server

    Hi, Please help me.
When I upgrade from windows 2000 advance server to windows 2003 server the oracle discoverer 9i can not be open. When I open it there is a error "Failed to open document"
How to make it run smoothly at windows 2003 server?
    Thank You

    Hi,
This is a bug in your version of Discoverer. There is a patch to make it work with windows 2003 or you can upgrade your Discoverer to a later version. The patch should be available from Oracle support. I don't know of anyway to make your version work with 2003.

  • Tests do not run on Windows 2003 server

I got all my unit tests running fine on my local machine but I had a few issues getting them to work on the build server.
The first problem was that ant task was looking for c:\windows, the 2003 windows directory is c:\winnt.
A change to WindowsSWFLauncher.java fixed this:
    private final String localTrustedDirectory = System.getenv( "windir" ) + "\\system32\\Macromed\\Flash\\FlashPlayerTrust\\";
the next problem was that the FlashPlayerTrust directory didn't exist so I had to create it myself on the build server. (ant task should probably do this if it doesn't exist but my java skills aren't up to that!).
At this point the runners got built and the trust file was created but the ant task timed out. If I ran the swf myself on the build server it launched but no tests ran. I manually created a trust file that trusted my whole deploy directory. The runners then launched ok and all reports got built.
I think the reason the trust file didn't work is because the file location in the ant task generated cfg file is:
    C:\Build\AntWorkspace-FlexClient\ant\..\DEPLOY\REPORT\myRunner.swf
    when it should be
    C:\Build\AntWorkspace-FlexClient\DEPLOY\REPORT\myRunner.swf
I imagine that this would be a fairly simple problem to fix.

@Roaders - Thanks for the footwork on this.  I'll get the suggested fix into a patch and off to Mike.  Unforunately, the path that's being written to the local trust file involves a fix for the Ant task to handle absoluate path conversion for the SWF path that's passed in the SWF attribute.  The way we're launching the flash player on the Mac has proven to make this promblematic, so we haven't implemented the fix yet.  When it's in place though, the absolute path to the SWF should show up correctly in the file.  I'm gonna look into the FP security spec as well and see if we can grant the entire directory holding the TestRunner.swf local trust or not.  Thanks again for the help, hopefully this weekend I can dive in.

  • Windows 2003 server and SQL 2008

    Hi
Does SAP Business one support windows 2008 and sql 2008 platforms?
When i checked the partner portal it says that these platforms are not supported. Is there any update?
    Regards
    Louis

    Hello Louis,
The only way to determine this is via the supported platforms page in the portal. This is the most up to date, and will include information for the future when this data is available. So for not I would only plan with what information is available.

  • Accessing a Windows 2003 Server

Hi; this question may have been dealt with already but I'm new here so please indulge me a bit. My office network runs on windows 2003 file server but I just got myself a MacBook Pro. I can see the file server but can't access it. I have MS Office for Mac 2004 installed (Student edition)
Should it be possible for me to access files on a file server that runs on windows 2003 server? If yes, what do I need to do on either my Mac or ask the admin to do on the server?
    Cheers

I'm also running several Macs on a Windows Small Business Server (Windows Server 2003) and the only way I am able to pull up the files was to join each one of my Macs to the Windows Server's network domain. You have to do this through the Directory Utility in the Utilities folder. There is one draw back from what I can tell, and it's something that I need some help with. It seems that once a Mac (running Leopard) is joined to a Windows domain, it takes the log in process forever to finish. Logging into a Leopard Mac alone is pretty quick, but after joining the domain, logging into any of the Macs on the Windows domain takes over a minute. If anyone knows the answer to this one, I'm all ears.

  • High paging in Windows 2003 server - Oracle 10.2.0.4

    Hi ,
SAP instance running on Windows 2003 server , DB-oracle 10.2.0.4.
Currently we have 16 GB of physical memory and 12 gb of virtual memory set in the system. As the sap system is started immediately the paging goes high to 25 gb used.
Checked market place and found this note
Note 1009297 and implemented the windows patches given in the note ,still the issue exists. Please help to resolve the issue.
    SAP system:Solution managaer 7.0
    Oracle:10.2.0.4
    OS:Windows 2003 server 64-bit machine. service pack 2
    Basis-Team .

have a look at note 1518419 because in meantime the reality is a little more complex.
note 88416 is still valid, but only if there is only one system on the box and if your pagefiles has 2-3 times the size of the physical ram of the box (which is litte too much if the box has 250 GB of it).
The reason why the system is using pagefile directly after startup is following:
SAP configures large portions of memory for caches and transaction memory for the users connecting to the system.
This amount is allocated during the startup of the system. Only some parts (so called privat memory) is allocated on demand.
This is the reason why the system needs so much virtual memory after being started up. How much - see note 1518419.

  • Running Windows 2003 Server on Xserve Intel with BootCamp?

    Well...
This sounds like awfully bad idea, but one of our clients needs to run Windows 2003 Server for a certain project in their organisation. Fundings for the new hardware is available. Windows-compatible hardware!
The idea here is to get fundings for a new Xserve, run it with Windows 2003 Server in the project and then keep the delicious hardware for free when the project ends. A PC-server would be thrown out of a window in this 100% Mac-centric department.
Windows 2003 Server runs smoothly on a MacPro with Boot Camp and Parallels Desktop. What about the XServe Intel?

    Schuckert-
    Greetings.
Are you in a position to test the configuration for a while? If so then I vote do it. If not, you could buy a copy of OSX Server and install it on a Mac Pro and try running your software on the XServe platform.
However, depending on your relationship with this client, I would have them sign a release based upon the beta-ness of the software.
A lot of us here are not in a position to give such things a try-just yet. Too busy trying to make things transition smoothly on the accepted configurations.
Although I will say that I suppose a client will eventually pose the question to me (:>)
    Luck-

I have a Windows 2003 Server 64-Bit, and when I upgraded to Firefox 4.0.1 now it won't run, it keeps saying to restart the computer to complete the installation, but I've restarted theserver 4 times, and I still can't use it.

I ended up putting it in DFU mode.  It's kinda hard to tell it was in DFU mode because nothing showed on the screen, it was just black, but the sounds from the computer helped to tell me it was connected.
Itunes still didn't recognize the device for whatever reason.
So I used redsn0w.  I don't know if I can say that on these forums, but considering itunes was worthless at this point I am going to give credit where credit is due.
Now I am giving itunes a second chance to upgrade to 5.1, if it doesn't work, well, back to redsnow and maybe I will even jailbreak it this time rather than just using the fecovery fix found under extras.

  • Very long search times from an IMac running 10.6.7 Snow Leopard when searching for files on a windows 2003 server

    The issue is as follows:
The Imac is connected to the  windows 2003 server via SMB type connection.
There are four sub folders in the main directory. We go to one of the sub folders in this case Server.
We go to search window and type the file name that we want to search such as test .
The choices selected for search parameters are Server for location and contains (same results if picked by file name)
Search takes roughly 6 minutes before it returns the result.
If we do the same search on the old Mac Server it will take 15 seconds to complete using same search parameters.
Any ideas on how to speed up search times to the Windows 2003 Server? I have tried going to finder preferences and removing the sharing section. That did not help.

    Okay, I've....
    1) Reinstalled XE, to start from scratch
    2) Went in to SQL*Plus, did a "create pfile from spfile;"
    3) Shutdown the database
    4) Started it up in MOUNT mode
    5) Ran NID, to change the database name from 'XE' to 'CTXMGMT'
    6) Shutdown the database again
    7) Edited the pfile to change the database name (i.e. "db_name='CTXMGMT'")
    8) Started up the database
And that worked! So that's good... but now my question is:
How do I change the SID for the database? Currently, the instance name for the database is still 'XE'....
    SQL> select instance_name
    2 from v$instance;
    INSTANCE_NAME
    xe
I'd like it so a connection could be made to the database with the tnsnames.ora file looking like this:
    CTXMGMT =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(Host = rodin)(Port = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA = (SID = CTXMGMT))
Could someone explain how to get the database to this state? Thanks.

  • Running LabVIEW 7.1 on Windows 2003 Server with Terminal Services

We are setting up a newtork based solution with LabView. I have looked for documentation on installing LV 7.1 on a Windows 2003 server to run the applications and then have destkops connect to it. Can this be done with a Terminal Services Access solution? Another words, if we were to purchase the LV Volume License Manager, can you install LV 7.1 onto a Windows 2003 server and run the application through TS across a 1GB backbone from the desktop, which makes the server do all the processing?

Sorry for the delay. I'm surprised Philip didn't get back to us... Phil
are you there? Based on his comments, I think he misunderstands your
    situation (no offense Phil).
You and I are both talking about the same thing. You basically want a
terminal server license. NI will not provide it. They told me (over the
phone) to get a multi-seat license (MSL). IMO, that's unacceptable. I
expect a LV license taylored specifically for thin client networks. A
multi-seat license is for -->installing<-- on multiple machines. It
conforms to a totally different set of rules. One big one, an MSL assumes
that you intend to run LV locally to interact with DAQ hardware. Since
this won't be done with the thin client, you shouldn't have to pay for it.

Since you are talking about a Microsoft operating system, I would say this
cannot be done without some additional/costly junk installed.
Here's another option. If the people you're supporting don't have any
platform dependent things like ActiveX in their LV applications, you
should consider using a Linux-based terminal server. I know for a fact it
    works.
I've assisted in setting up a network like this before:
    * One Linux terminal server with LabVIEW for Linux (Full Dev)
    * One WinXP box on the network with LabVIEW for Win (Prof Dev)
    * 5 cheap thin clients
They developed LabVIEW source code on the thin clients and then compiled
packages on the WinXP box for distribution to their customers. The WinXP
was only used for compiles so they just hopped on when necessary. The
eventual plan is for the thin clients to simply open a RemoteDesktop
(using RDP) terminal session and do the compiles from there. I'm not sure
how to do that yet... on the Windows side.

Phil must have thought you needed a LV application to access the front
panel controls of another LV application running on a remote machine. The
VI server is handy in that area but useless in your case.
Hey, you wanna hear about cheap network infrastructure? We bought our
thin client boxes for $15 each! Go to ltsp.org if you want more info on
configuring Linux as a terminal server.
