Yet another Workflow Q involving changes made to exported projects

I know this has been addressed quite a bit, but haven't found an answer. I'd like some help thinking thru this. I may be making this harder than it has to be.
My main library is on my MacPro; I know about referenced masters and I do not choose to use them. I have a 17" MBP which I travel with. The MP's library is a managed library covering various named projects over the last two years and when I travel I export the project I want to work on during my travels and put it on the MBP. Usually I export the masters and versions into a project to put on my laptop.
If I add new images in a new project, that's not an issue. I can just export it and import it into the Library on my MP.
But what about those times when the Project which was exported and put onto the MBP17" has been editted so that this project is now different from the project in my MP library?
For instance, Project Trees has 150 Masters & 150 Versions and the main 4* pictures [50 masters] were exported, worked on my laptop when out of town and now I have the Project Trees with 48 Masters [I trashed two while traveling] and with 55 Versions [the original 50 ver. 2, some of which were tweaked but not all, and 5 new ver. 3]. I assume I don't need to bring the Masters back in, but how do I deal with those 2 I tossed? eyeball it and just delete according to IMG number? And how do I link the laptop-worked versions to their original Masters, or is that automatic?
Should I just import and then consolidate the original Trees project with the 'new' Project [bringing in only the 55 versions and not the masters] from the laptop and then eyeball and delete? Or just plan to export and work on the 50 Versions and then reimporting those worked on images to the main library?
Maybe I'm overthinking this?

I would just export the whole project from the Mac Pro as a library and import that to the MacBook.
Now work on it doing whatever, delete, add, modify and then export the project from the MacBook and import it back to the Mac Pro replacing the original project.
No need to worry about duplicates or removing images or merging.

There are two main annoying problems with Flash Builder and swc's:
    1.  Flash Builder doesn't reflect changes made to swc files
Solution : First of all - keep your swc files inside your project folder, you can also disable global swc cache: change as3api.cpp code, refresh swc in flashBuilder bug!
    2. Flash Builder breakes content inside swc files (and also popular problem "TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert flash.display::MovieClip@1f21adc1 to...")
Solution : locate the project .actionScriptProperties file and set useFlashSDK=”false” :  Flash Builder 4.7 – useFlashSDK | In Flagrante Delicto!
In this case you can also download latest Apache Flex SDK to target new Flash player versions: http://flex.apache.org/

  • Yet Another Workflow Question

Ok I too, like many others here, am new to the Mac (thanks to Apple's I'm a Mac, I'm a PC ads that my wife couldn't get enough of). I have done some searching around and I see that there are quite a few iMovie workflow questions out there. I have not quite found what I am looking for however, so I thought I would make my first post tonight. So here it goes...
I have 3 different ways I capture video:
    1. Canon Vixia HF10 (HD)
    2. Canon Powershot (SD)
    3. Blackberry Storm (SD...I know it isn't a good phone)
I record everything to SD cards. I am wanting to know the best way to store my raw video for editing at any time. Do I copy the AVCHD file structure (for the Vixia) and .avi files (for the other non HD) to my hdd, or do I just import into iMovie '09 and let it reside there, or both? I noticed that iMovie had an archival option (which appears to just copy the AVCHD structure to my hdd), which is why I ask. I want to always keep my raw video in case I decide to go back later and create a new video.
After I have the raw video archived, I would like to know the best way to use iMovie. Depending on where I end up storing the raw video, should I keep the imported video in iMovie once I am finished with a project, and then reimport it at a later date if need be? Or, do I leave it in iMovie as events? I guess this all rely depends on the first question...where do I store the raw video for archival purposes...
Finally, when exporting my iMovie project, should I store that in more of a, pardon the Windows reference, "My Videos" folder with a original size, web optimized size, and ipod optimized size? Thus, keeping the actual exported version of the project separate from the raw video?
I hope I have asked the right questions here. I appreciate any and all help I can get!
    Ron

Welcome Ron to the  iMovie boards..
very interesting : 'switchers' care sooo much for 'storage strategies' ..
the by Apple intended workflow/concept for iApps is:
any 'photocam' related material (still or movin') comes-in via iPhoto, and is stored in an iP Library (=you can tell iP to create 2/many Libs, if you prefer to organize manually....)
any 'camcorder' related material HAS to be imported by iM - why? because, iM has some internal routines to make such material editable (codecs, thumnails, stuff....). the same material as 'file by Finder' does not import.. in most cases!
    storage..
iP stores in its Library (local/internal HDD and/or ext. HDD)
iM stores in Events (local/internal HDD and/or ext. HDD)
to make Projects/Albums accessible to any iApp, you should keep your fingers off that structure.
    Erasing Events 'kills' projects.
allthough, once 'shared to media browser' there's a 'copy' of your project WITHIN the project file. (= the socalled Media Browser is no single Folder somewhere hidden in the system)
there's this Spacesaver feature to erase any Event content which is not in use in any project to keep Events lean.
use the Archive feature from within iM to keep things easy and convenient.. if you miss a single file of the SDcard file-structure, the whole card's content is kaputt ..
    summary:
    • use iApps as intended.
    • use iP for cameras, it stores 'raws' (the avi too)
    • use iM for camcorders, use Archive to store raws..
    • purchase a dozend of HDDs to store your material..

  • Yet Another Latency Issue Involving Audio through a 1620 into Logic 9

Hi. Let me apologize in advance for my ignorance, and let me acknowledge that there are lots of tips on latency all over this and other sites.
I haven't found the answer despite some extensive looking.
I'm running Logic Studio / Logic 9 on a 32-bit only 2008 iMac.  I am using a Mackie Onyx 1620 [not 1620i] with Firewire InterfaceLogic as my audio interface.
I am tracking audio into a project with both MIDI tracks and Audio tracks.  I have established an audio loop as an augmented click track.
I have set latency to a low setting / buffer size in general preferences, and I have engaged "low latency" mode during audio recording.
I have no problem monitoring through my Mackie Onyx 1620 [not 1620i], with no audible latency or delay problem at all whilst tracking.
When I then play back the audio tracking, it is about 240 ticks off -- a dramatic latency problem.
The problem exists even where I have no other tracks beyond my audio loop, and where there are no effects on the audio loop/click track.
In other DAW setups, I've experienced latency in hearing my backing tracks and having an audible delay from latency in monitoring my input track.  This is effectively the reverse.
Any ideas?  And again, I am woefully under-educated in the area.  With your kind help, I intend to remedy that . . . .
    Thanks very much.

Pancenter, thanks for responding and trying to help.
if so, you have a misunderstanding regarding latency.
I can promise you that you're right!
My understanding of latency in a nutshell: it is the small but perceptable delay [from "withholding" of signal] caused as a signal travels from point to point -- both (1) physical point-to-point (for example, from Mac processor to FW jack out on Mac through FW cable to FW jack in on interface, through cable out to monitor speakers or headphones); and
    (2) processing point to point (from recorded audio track through multiple plug-ins on channels strip to bus or master out, through plug-ins on each of those).
I already know that I likely am wrong about this, or am at least incomplete.
Based on that understanding, the problem I'm experiencing defies latency as I understand it, and defies logic (no pun intended; I just mean it makes no sense, as I'll explain below).
What effects do you have on the master bus?
None.  I had none in the original project I described in my first query, and have none on a simplified experiment project I've conducted since (after reading your response).
If you are monitoring through the Mackie and NOT using Logic's software monitoring there is no need to set the Preferences/Audio/ I/O Buffer to a low value, set it to 256.  You also don't need to use Low Latency mode if you're monitoring through the Mackie.
Here, I think I understand, but am not sure.
I am definitely monitoring through the Mackie in an absolute sense -- the returning signals from my DAW are coming in to the Mackie and (a) going out the 1620's headphone jack; (b) going out the 1620's master out to a Mackie Big Knob; and (c) going out the Big Knob's headphone jack, or to powered Mackie 824s.
[No, I'm not a Mackie devotee; I just happened across the gear at great prices, and thought I understood it.]
I don't think, though, that I'm "monitoring through the Mackie" as you intend it.  For my simple experiment, I established an audio drum track as a click track.  Each of the transients falls right on the metronome click/ beat location, so I know that it's "good."  I then plugged a Precision bass into the Mackie (channel one), with an audio track in Logic with "Input 1" as the input source. There are no plugins on the Precision track's channel strip.
Because the Mackie FW interface  on the 1620 sends post-gain but pre-fader, I was able to turn down all faders on the Mackie except the master out.  When muting the Precision channel strip in Logic, I hear NO Precision.  *Nothing from the Precision gets to the monitors if the faders are down and Logic is not sending signal.*  If I then "de-mute" the Precision in Logic, I hear signal through the master line in the Mackie 1620.
In this setup, I assume I am not "monitoring through the Mackie," but I'm not sure.  I think that I'm "monitoring through Logic," and that's why I've engaged low-latency and set the preferences to minimize latency.
we need to establish your setup, how you're monitoring, and what effects are on the master bus. (if any)
In my simple experiment, with Logic set up to minimize latency, and with no plugins on the Logic master, I engaged "record" in Logic (only on the Precision track with no plugins), and I then played simple quarter notes on the Precision in time with the drumbeats in my Logic "clicktrack."  By playing simply like that, I confirmed that I am "in time" as far as my ears can perceive.  I then hit "Stop" in Logic.
Upon playback, my Precision is perceptably (about 240) ahead of the click track !
In my understanding of latency, at the worst the Precision should have been late because the Clicktrack would have been traveling through Logic's processing and down the lines to my monitors.
Again, thanks a ton for trying to help me out here.  I hope that this description makes it easier.

I need to work on documents in both my iMac and air book. But I have to download document and them upload it, and when I upload it I can't open it unless I open it on my phone first. Yet changes made on phone appear straight away. Does this make sense????

On your Macs open System Preferences > iCloud
Deselect the box next to Documents & Data, then reselect that box then restart your Macs.
On the iPhone tap Settings > iCloud. Switch Documents & Data off then back on then reset the iPhone.
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button down at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
See if you can open the files now without opening on the iPhone first.

I keep getting a warning stating that the document could not be auto saved in pages. The file has been changed by another application. Then it says click save any way to keep your changes and save the changes made by the other application as a version, or click revert to keep the changes from the other application and save your changes to a version.
What in the heck does all that mean, and why are they trying to behave like a Windows product or a Microsoft office product. I just don't get it.
Why is another application changing my documents? It's like they've created a virus within their own programs. It's a pain in the neck and makes no sense.

I am also having the issue of a warning saying "could not be auto-saved in Pages. The file has been changed in another application. I then hit "save anyway", the warning will go away for a time, sometimes minutes, sometimes hourr, but then the warming reapprears saying the same thing. This is not the case with all Pages documents but it is the case with many.

  • Tracking records change made by another user or session

How does oracle forms track records change made by other user or session?

I think the question is, how does Forms know to issue the error "FRM-40654: Record changed by another user. Re-query to see change".
I don't know exactly how Forms knows this. But in the past I have found that if a column has changed on the record, which you are not querying in this forms block, then you don't get the error. So Forms is perhaps comparing all the database values for the queried record, against the values that Forms has queried?
When you attempt to lock the record from Forms, you'll see that Forms issues a statement
SELECT <all the db columns in the block>
    FROM <wherever>
FOR UPDATE OF <all the db columns in the block which are not query only>
Even so, in the database, that statement doesn't know what the values are that the Form has already queried. So Forms must be doing something else.
Hope this helps, it's a bit of a black box area I guess.

  • How to make Lightroom reflect changes made in Finder?

I'm new to Lightroom so am still getting used to the interface.
I have a video (mp4) in one of my Lightroom folders and I wanted to rotate it because it was sideways, so I found the file in Finder, opened it in Quicktime Pro, rotated it and saved the change. But when I view the video in Lightroom it is still sideways. Why doesn't Lightroom reflect the change? Is it not reading the video file when it plays it?
Even more generally, if I move a photo from one folder into another in Finder, this change is also not reflected in Lightroom. Is there a way I can have it "refresh" and see these changes?

Even more generally, if I move a photo from one folder into another in Finder, this change is also not reflected in Lightroom. Is there a way I can have it "refresh" and see these changes?
Lightroom was not designed to do this. You can manually help lightroom find these moved files, but there is no automatic function to do so.
Therefore, stop making changes in the Finder. If you need to move photos, you do this entirely in Lightroom. Or better yet, develop a workflow that and doesn't require moving photos from one place to another (which saves you time). But in general, if you want a photo to wind up in folder Z, why don't you just put it in folder Z straight out of the camera instead of putting it in folder A first and later moving it to folder Z?

  • Cancelling changes made by disable view

All, when a user is disabled, the tool uses the disable view to disable the selected resources. However, i would like to undo the changes made by the view based on a condition i'm checking and just exit out of the workflow. Can someone tell me how i can do this as I know we can achieve this in activesync using IAPI.cancel?

The way to do this is to add another activity that has an action that calls the enable user primitive workflow services. u can then set the resources that you want to unset.

  • List view web part not reflecting changes made to list view in SharePoint Designer

    Dear All,
When adding a list view web part containing a view modified in SharePoint designer (e.g. conditional formatting applied, or group headers modified) I'm finding that the changes made in SPD are not reflected in the web part.
For example, I go into SPD edit a view, and the view appears correctly when I go back into SharePoint, however when I link to the view within a list view web part it results in losing the changes made in SPD.
Becasue it's a publishing page I'm unable to edit the contents of the web part in SPD.
I'm sure this is expected behavior but how do I get around this?

  • IPhone using Exchange slow to sync changes made in Apple Mail

I searched but didn't see anyone with this particular problem.
When I make a change on my Mac in Mail, say deleting a message from my inbox or moving to another folder, it usually takes hours before that change finally syncs and shows up in my iPhone.
However, there is no problem the other direction. If I move or delete a message on the phone, the change shows up on my phone within one minute.
Any idea why this would be? I hate having junk I've already deleted still on my phone for hours before it goes away! Anyone else seen this issue? Thanks!

However, there is no problem the other direction. If I move or delete a message on the phone, the change shows up on my phone within one minute.
Do you mean a change made on your iPhone is reflected with the Mail.app on your Mac within a minute?
I don't access an Exchange account. I have no problem with this in either direction with my MobileMe account.
Are you accessing your Exhange account as an IMAP account with the Mail.app on your Mac and are you are accessing your Exchange account via ActiveSync with the iPhone's mail client?
If so, not sure this would make any difference, but it might.

  • My account was accessed and unauthorized changes made by We R Wireless

I recently became a ware of a very serious issue and have been getting little assistance from Verizon.  My account was password protected and had only 3 people identified as having the ability to make changes on my account.  I received a notice from Verizon regarding a change made on one of my lines.  Upon review it was an unauthorized change to add "Total Mobile Protection" to one of my lines for $9.00 a month.  Also in this notice was a credit which I was entitled to for a $10.00 Active Promotion.  I believe this credit was placed on the account so that the change might slip by unnoticed.   When I looked into the change it was made by a Representative from We R Wireless in Ship Bottom NJ.  I have never been to this store nor have I spoken with anyone ever at this store.
After calling the store and confirming my account was accessed and unauthorized changes made, I was told by the manager that an employee had in fact accessed my account and made those changes.  I still could not understand how it was possible for the changes to have been made without my password.  The activity certainly looked very suspicious and I figured it had to do with commission to the representative for adding the insurance plan.  This was denied multiple times by the manager of the store as well as the District Manager.  In the meantime I had received multiple emails from We R Wireless in their attempts to "Make this go away"
What came next was the most disturbing and upsetting part of this situation.  I was told by the District Manager of WE R Wireless that my information they had collected years ago during a purchase of a phone and activation INCLUDING MY PASSWORD and that they had kept it in their system!!
WE R Wireless had shared my personally identifiable information and Password to my account with Sales representatives at the Ship Bottom WE R Wireless store  and that was how they accessed my account!!
As you can imagine I have now been receiving multiple calls from The Director of Retail Operations, Musafa as well as the Director of Operations, Jimmy.  They are attempting to sweep this under the carpet and it is inexcusable and unacceptable.  The reason for this post is to WARN others who may have made purchases at anytime at a We R Wireless store that they KEEP YOUR PASSWORD and employees are given the Passwords and have made changes to accounts.  I cannot believe that I am the only one that this has happened to and I am concerned this is a widespread breech and more importantly is ILLEGAL.
I will keep this Board updated with developments but can tell you so far Verizon has not been very responsive to my concerns but this is unacceptable and I am thinking of contacting the FCC as well as an Attorney.  In this day and age of Identity Theft this situation must be addressed by Verizon whether or not this was one rogue employee or not our PASSWORDS and other Information should never be shared nor kept without our knowledge.

I can only tell you that the Verizon rep from the Fraud department as well as Verizon's legal department contacted me and said under no circumstances are these companies to retain Customer Passwords.  As you can see look at the potential for issues as evident in this situation.
As far as the FCC and their responsibilities this is directly from the website
The Federal Communications Commission regulates interstate and international communications by radio, television, wire, satellite and cable in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and U.S. territories. An independent U.S. government agency overseen by Congress, the commission is the United States' primary authority for communications law, regulation and technological innovation. In its work facing economic opportunities and challenges associated with rapidly evolving advances in global communications
The agency investigates consumer issues such as Cramming which has occurred here if you go to the site you will see some of the recent fines for cramming levied by the FCC and it is a huge issue.  A consumer does not get involved in legal fees the FCC is responsible to investigate consumer claims of fraud and regulates the industry.  The Attorney General also takes this very seriously as well.

  • Yet another No Service iPhone 4, second hand

    Hi all,
Apologies for yet another topic about the No Service issue on the iPhone 4. I bought a secondhand iPhone 4 16GB 2 days ago after having a 3GS 32GB for 18 months with no problems. iPhone 4 was just over a week old when I bought it (warranty date shows when it was first activated), on the O2 UK network like my old one.
All was fine for 2 days, was receiving and making calls and texts etc with no problems. But since late afternoon yesterday the phone has mostly said No Service. It occasionally goes onto O2-UK but with no bars of signal so calls and texts still fail immediately.
I've tried all of the tips I can find online to resolve this, airplane mode on/off, reset network settings, restore from backup, restore as new phone, hard resets. But nothing's working.
I can take out my SIM and put it into my 3GS, in the same location, and get 5 bars of signal, all my texts come through. Then put SIM back into iPhone 4 and straight away, No Service.
I've made a Genius bar appointment for tomorrow afternoon, but I'm wondering what happens regarding the fact that I'm not the person who bought the phone in the first place? Will this be an issue?
Thank you in advance for any advice about this, was so looking forward to having this phone and now, bleh!

I spoke to o2, they checked my SIM is activated and said they don't need a record of my IMEI number. Still saying No Service so will have to see what the "Genius" says tomorrow!
