Yosemite login question

Hi everyone,
**Sorry if this has already been asked, I looked and couldn't spot anything**
I've updated my MacBook Pro to Yosemite, and it seems to be working well.
The only thing i've got is that on the login page, it displays a grey screen, with just the black generic person outline, and under it says [update needed].
It then takes longer to log in than i'd expect.
There aren't any other App store updates for me to install, so i'm not sure what it means by 'update needed'.
Has anyone else seen this or does anyone have any ideas?
Ta!

I have the same problem after having used Yosemite for a day with FileVault on, then shutting down and starting the computer again. I logged into that account in question, saw the progress bar without caption (probably meaning that the update was being performed) and was taken back to the login screen, now with the user image originally used for that account. However, now the account won't accept the original password any more. I will try to reset it via the Admin account which was not affected by the problem.

Before Yosemite the login screen had the usernames and password box low on the screen.  This was very nice for wearers of bifocals.  With Yosemite the login screen places the users and password box up high, above the line of bifocals.  This is an accessibility problem.  Is there a way to move the users and password box back down on the Yosemite login screen?

  • How can I change the background blur effect on Yosemite login screen?

How can I turn off the background blur effect on the Yosemite login screen on my 27" iMac?
Each time my family changes to a different user on the iMac, the wallpaper blurs (other than the small login box). It is as if you have lost your vision temporarily when such a large display becomes blurred. It is particularly bad if there is a lot of contrast in the colors of the wallpaper.

    Hi,
the VDI login screen/desktop selector uses the configured default locale from the Sun Ray kiosk session. You can change the default by logging into the Sun Ray admin UI (http://yourserver:1660) and selecting the Advanced - Kiosk Mode tab. Click on Edit and enter the desired locale (e.g. de_utf8) in the Locale field. Click OK to store your changes.
The next time a new kiosk session starts up it will take into account your changes. You can terminate all existing kiosk sessions by executing a cold Sun Ray services restart (see the Servers tab). Alternatively, you can also just quit your current kiosk session by clicking on "More Options - Quit" in the VDI login screen.
Please notice one caveat here: the specified locale must be supported on your system. For example, execute locale -a on a terminal to get a list of all your currently installed locales. If you specify a locale that does not exist on your system, then the kiosk session will ignore this and it will have no effect on the VDI login screen.
    Hope that helps.

  • Yosemite login screen

How to change Yosemite login screen background? I tried that library/ cache/ change photo with png format but it isn't work. It there any other way to change this Yosemite login screen blur back ground?

Also experiencing this on my Late-2013 15" rMBP...it wasn't present during the early OSX 10.10 betas but has been persistent over the last few and now with the full release.
I have done a full, clean install as well to see if something was fubared in the settings but nope. What a really silly issue to have. 10.10 wasn't ready for primetime, these aren't the type of bugs that people should be experiencing.
What I can say though is that for me, this issue is limited to when i'm using an external display. If I use my laptop without anything connected externally it doesn't happen.

  • Yosemite login twice

Since I upgraded to Yosemite I have to log in 2 times, especially after I wake up my computer after a sleeping time.
A first screen ask me to log in, in the background I see Yosemite original Wallpaper flouted.
Then a second screen appears and ask me to Log in again, this time I see my desktop wallpaper flouted (I customized it)
    Strange isn't it ?
Could it be a kind of trojan ? Or is it a Yosemite bug ? How to solve this ?

The reason why this happens is because in settings you selected "Require password after sleep". What this means is that you need a password to wake up the Mac and then you need a password to to re-login.
It does not matter if you are using the same login details, you have to double authenticate. This usually happens after the computer has been left in sleep mode for some time. The first screen is a grey scale followed by the full color login screen with all users displayed.
I hope this answers your question.

  • Crazy Yosemite Login Screen.

After I upgraded to Yosemite on my MBP (early 2011), at least once every few days I will open my computer to a login screen that looks like this.
The screen is never frozen, and I can type in my password and log in, but it just looks crazy.
Also, sometimes if I open my computer within a few minutes of having previously closed it, it will load all my previous windows, freeze for a minute, show the login screen like it wants me to enter my password, and then it reverts back to allowing me continue my work.
These are two oddities that I noticed after installing Yosemite, and I just didn't know if anyone else had anything similar happen to them.
Also, before I upgraded OS X, my computer has been running pretty slow and I've observed a couple other weird glitches that I did not document.
Is it possible that my HDD is on the brink of failure?
    Any input would be appreciated!

Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider. You may have to leave the machine there for several days.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional—ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
Apple also recommends that you deauthorize a device in the iTunes Store before having it serviced.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS12.MSSQLSERVER\Reporting Services\ReportServer
Which of these two folder contains the web.config that must be modified when adding custom login/ forms authentication?
When and how is the AuthCookie used?  Do I need to add any info to the ssrs auth cookie?
    scott

    Hi scott_m,
According to your description, you want to add a custom login form authentication and use AuthCookie. Right?
In Reporting Services, if we want to add custom login form, we need to modify the web.config in ReportServer folder. For the modification in configure files and usage of authcookie, please refer to the links below:

  • SMS - iMac and Yosemite Requirements Question

A question about requirements for SMS....
    iPhone running on 8.1.2
    2010 iMac running on 10.10.1
    2007 iMac running on 10.10.1
2012 Macbook Air also running on 10.10.1
SMS works fine on the Macbook Air (check)
SMS does NOT work on the 2010 iMac
SMS DOES work on the 2007 iMac
What is confusing to  me is I just went though about 2 hours with Apple support.  They discovered that the reason SMS is NOT working on the 2010 iMac is that under system information you see this:
    BluetoothLow Energy Supported: No
    Handoff Supported: No
    Instand Hotspot Supported: No
Under the Macbook air, all these fields are YES.
Now here is the confusing thing...
On the iMac 2007, they are all set to NO, but SMS works fine!
    So, my question is...
What are the true requirements to have SMS work correctly?
You need IOS 8 and Yosemite
You need a specific piece of hardware?
Support told me that the 2007 iMac should NOT be working because the Bluetooth fields are set to NO, but it does!
Any clarification in this would be appreciated.
And sorry this is so long!
    Bluetooth Low Energy Supported: No
      Handoff Supported: No
      Instant Hotspot Supported: No

  • Active Directory Cached Domain Login question

    Hi all,
I would like to seek assistance on the following scenario setup where I have 2 independent AD forest setup
    Production Forest #1 - Contoso
Test Lab Forest #2 - Contoso
Assuming both AD forests domain controllers are issued with Domain Controller Certs (to support smartcard login) from the same CA, and there exists a AD user acct - Mark in Production Forest #1 and this user is currently using a issued smartcard to perform
AD login on desktop client #1
Would it be possible to create a AD user acct - Mark in Test Lab Forest #2 and use the same issued production smartcard to perform AD login on laptop client #2 which is joined to Test Lab Forest #2? If not technically possible, why??? :(
I am trying to find a solution where I can have the laptop clients support login using the issued production smartcard. The challenge here is not all the laptop clients site have access to the production domain controllers hence am thinking of building the
Test Lab Forest #2 on another "server" laptop which provides a mobile means to allow the laptop clients to be joined to the Test Lab Forest and then supporting the issued production smartcard via domain cached login.

So far I know the only requirement is that the UPN match and that the PKI is trusted (in NTAuth) in the forest, but I'm not a PKI expert. I suggest to ask this question in the security forum as well:

  • Automatic login questions

i tried to find answers to this, but couldnt find the exact problem in other threads.
i have 2 users on my iMac. we never shut down, so i dont really care if there is automatic login, but i would rather have it off and start up at the login screen. but is there a way that my wife does not have to enter her password to get into her profile? she just want to click on her icon and be on her profile instead of having to enter a password. it just gets laborious.

    Hi dutchgenius,
Now that you have Allan's answer about the situation you don't really care of (as you never shut down),
here's an answer for your question,
    that is,
having to enter a password when logging in from one User Account to the other:
    - Unfortunately, the only way is to set her account with no password
    (blank/mouseclick field + blank/mouseclick confirmation field)
    from the start,
(this way there is not even a login window step)
although I guess it is also possible to change her password to "blank/mouseclick" in the Accounts preferences
(not sure in that case there is not still a login window but no more password needed).
I wouldn't do that even for a standard account, though, oh well,
    but,
if she has admin powers then no, definitely don't do it.

  • CUCM EMCC Login question

    Hi All,
I have a question in relation to EMCC which I cannot find a definitive answer on, I  have a number of clusters connected together with EMCC and when a user roams to a non-home cluster and logs in, the local logged in user on their office desk is not logged out of the cluster but the EMCC login works correctly and can work remotely.  Is there a way to force the locally logged in user to be logged out when an EMCC login event occurs?  If I login locally on the home cluster when logged in with EMCC it logs out the EMCC user which I would expect but I would like to achieve this both ways to stop the office phone ringing when a user is roaming and forgets to Logout.
So would like to log out the locally logged in user on their home cluster when they login with EMCC on one of my other clusters.
    Thanks,
    Phil

    Hi Phil,
EMCC multiple concurrent logins on different cluster using same user ID will always be allowed. Only way to control this enabling "Auto Logout" within specific time period.

  • Yosemite - login screen on low res

    Hello all,
i'm facing strange issue. After update to Yosemite on my MacBook Pro Retina ( Mid 2012 ) login screen appears in low-res.
I've tried changing resolution and several restarts but no luck so far. Anyone had same issue?
    Thanks for any advice.

Also experiencing this on my Late-2013 15" rMBP...it wasn't present during the early OSX 10.10 betas but has been persistent over the last few and now with the full release.

  • Yosemite login fail

Every time I reboot my MacBook Pro running Yosemite, I get to the login screen and its choice of two users and "Guest." I choose my user name and get the status bar for a few moments. Once it gets to about 20% loaded, the screen goes black and it reboots again. This second time I am only offered the two users; no "Guest." I choose my user name, and this time everything works as expected and my account loads normally.
I am running 10.10.1 - though I began having this problem on 10.10.0 - though not initially.
2011 Macbook Pro with a 2.3 GHz Core i5, 16 GB memory, with a 128 GB internal SSD for the OS and apps, and a 1TB internal HDD for my data. Both drives are about half full.

Ok, I should have tried disabling the guest user before I posted. That seems to have fixed it. Though when I re-enabled it, the behavior returned. I'd like to be able to enable the guest user without getting this behavior. I remember at some point reading that there was a reason beyond guest access to enable the guest user, but I can't for the life of me remember what it is.
I am also wondering if the status bar is normal when loading my user account. There was no status bar in Mavericks, which loaded much more quickly. It's the sort of status bar I associate with a firmware update.

  • OSX Yosemite login slow to accept password

I recently enabled a password on my mac for login and wake from sleep. The problem I am having is that a good 50% of the time I enter the password (either initial login or wake from sleep) it just sits there with a spinning wheel.. not the beachball but the "I am doing something" spinner. The wait time for the password to be accepted is anywhere from 45-90 seconds. All other times the acceptance is immediate.
I have tried disabling the password and enabling it, changing the password from my iCloud ID to a stand alone ID and it still keeps happening. One could say so what but I am locking my pc after 5 minutes idle so I am having to input the password a lot and those minutes of waiting are adding up.
Anyone have any words of wisdom?

Upon suffering similar symptoms, I was able to diagnose, reproduce, and fix the problem, as documented on the Apple StackExchange question "This “weird group trick" makes MacBook Pro login, apps, and systems run slow slow slow … but why?"
    URL: http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/171862/this-weird-group-trick-makes-mac book-pro-login-apps-and-systems-run-slow-slo
The fix in a nutshell: identify and eliminate circular group inclusions.
