You Should Be Ashamed

To the Adobe Help Team:
You should be ashamed.
Like many others I recently upgraded my CS6 suite. Much to my surprise when I installed the upgrade I was met with a completely re-written and broken HELP system.
Any attempt to access the help through one of the Creative Suite applications resulted in the following messages:
• Adobe Help Viewer is not installed and you are not connected to the Internet…
(all while I’m online AND searching through your forums for a fix)
• The tutorials require the Online help files installed with this product. You may need to re-install the help files.
(Re-installed the program twice - didn’t help).
I then tried to install the community help files from your online download links and received the following error message:
Sorry, an error has occurred.
This application cannot be installed because the installer has been misconfigured. Please contact the application author for assistance.
HUH? All downloadable links for help are misconfigured?
I then called tech. support. and after spending close to 2 hours on the phone with no resolution, I spent a further 7 hours of my own time to resolve this issue.
This included repeatedly updating the AIR application from your site.
Unfortunately nothing I did worked except when I launched the application “acrobat.com”. It asked me to update AIR and after doing so I was then able to connect to your online help from all the Creative Suite application except Flash.
Unfortunately then the ‘acrobat.com’ application then wouldn’t work, telling me I needed to update it but the download repeatedly failed with an error message #16820.
So please - tell me how is it that the current download for AIR you make available to your customers doesn’t work? And the one associated with ‘acrobat.com’ does?
How could you release a suite of applications without proper help? People spend thousands of dollars on your products and should be entitled to receive the complete software - including help. Having your PDF manuals available one month later is a slap in the face to your customers.
Flash wasn’t even connected to the online help - you had to release an immediate update to resolve this.
And where are all the welcome screens? They are missing from several of the apps.
Who did the beta testing?
Just who is in charge over there?
Now, let’s examine the AIR framework. This is a glitchy, problematic application. Always has been.
To start, there is no PDF “Read Me” supplied with the install to alert one to the changes to the HELP application. So to have an application launch, then disappear is confusing.  And to have to dig through the adobe site to find this ‘read me’ (buried in the forum no less) is ridiculous.
And if you launch it on your own, it takes forever to do so - appearing first as the corner of the window, then a interminable spinning beach ball and then finally the useless application window.
The new interface is horrible. Everything is grouped together so it’s very hard to identify and choose what you need. Further, nothing is actually available - it’s only entries for javascripts that (I assume) reference the online help. Although why these need to be 22.7MB beats me. And EVERYTHING is greyed out with no access anyway.
Just who thought it was good idea for users to see these background scripts?
And finally, in updating this AIR service it knocked out access to all previous local help. So I can no longer access my local help for earlier version of the Creative Suites (CS4, 5). Instead now I connect ONLY to your online help which is terrible. No way to bookmark anything, highlight anything, search effectively. Shame on you.
Can you explain why in updating the help system to something that doesn’t work you also destroyed that which did work?
Can you explain why your ‘help team’ thought it was a good idea to only give it’s customers online help? What about people who need help who aren’t connected to the internet?
And why if the help wasn’t ready - why wouldn’t you link the various creative suite applications’ help directly to the web instead of launching an ill-coded, useless AIR application? Surely if this is the 'bridge' application - code it so it works in the background and doesn't appear to confuse everyone.
You released an incomplete and broken product. It is not up to your customers to spend their time researching, testing and fixing things only to alert you to what is apparent at first use.
Help is a fundamental segment of the product and part of what we paid for.
So I repeat:
Who did the beta testing?
Just who is in charge over there?
Does the word ‘deadline’ and ‘release date’ hold any value for you?
Shame on you…
cindy

You guys are becoming a joke. No basic help files in your software? GENIUS! I'm a freelance digital artist and I'm spreading the word about Adobe's new policy toward customers: "screw 'em". Does Adobe promote people with the most radical ideas, even if those ideas are the
stupidest and most misconceived?
I can imagine the meeting for the CS6 dev team:
------------ begin scene ------------
A corporate board room, much like the one in which that annoying paperclip in Microsoft Office was concieved. This is a room for BIG IDEAS. This is a pit where simple solutions to obvious problems go to die - a safe place wheren the criminally stupid devise convoluted douchery to un-solve problems.
TEAM LEADER: "We'll give them a help button (snicker) and when they attempt to get help, not only do we deny them, we spit in their face with an inscrutable message."
FIRST BOOT LICKER: "Yeah. Yeah boss."
TEAM LEADER: "And when they go online to find help for Adobe Help (snicker), make sure to provide nothing but another inscrutable message: 'in June you will receive help'. Now that's how you keep a moron in suspense. The icing on the cake is the perpetual 'Pending Download' message in Adobe Help Manager. Our Division of Wasting User's Time really appreciated that touch."
FIRST BOOT LICKER: "Brilliant.  You're too awesome to have your BIG IDEAS sullied by the petty needs of customer's who pay money for our products."
TEAM LEADER: "Quiet! I'm having an epiphany. Something about clouds - and jamming up the Internet with petabytes of garbage."
FIRST BOOT LICKER (with religious awe): "THE CLOUD. We already have product evangelists! This is the next step!"
-------------- end of scene ---------------
Update local help files and stop trying to UN-invent the wheel. The cloud is crap and I know this from experience. Instead of pulling info off my hard drive, I've got to pull it from half a world away. Really?! Who could've permitted such pie-in-the-sky BS to get so far. Come back down to earth where the rest of us actually have work to do and deadlines to make.
Sincerly,
Mike.

Does anyone from Adobe support read this forum??? Adobe Flash will NOT install on a Mac. It hangs at either 95% or 97% depending on which download link is followed. IT WILL NOT FINISH THE INSTALL. I have uninstalled and tried SIX installs - back to back - and it stalls. IT WILL NOT COMPLETE THE INSTALL. You have been aware of this problem for months and have not fixed the installer. I BOUGHT A MAC, NOT ADOBE FLASH, but I am forced to use it. SO FIX IT!!!!!!

    Good morning
I am trying to upgrade my iPhone via my macbook but the following message keeps coming up and the download does not work
"There are purchased items on the iPhone “Mark Price’s iPhone” that have not been transferred to your iTunes library. You should transfer these items to your iTunes library before updating this"
Please advise how I can transfer these files, I am not sure what files are in question.
I've only had the MacBook a couple of days, I am PC savvy but this is all new to me so please keep it as simple as possible. I am a brit based in Bahrain.
    Regards
    Mark Price

okay I've done everything regarding the transfer process (via file>transfer purchases) and syncing, so everything on my iPhone device seems to have been transferred to my iMac... however, I still get that message ("There are purchased items on the iPhone..."), trying to upgrade the iOS Have tried several times the same process of hitting transfer purchases via file, but nothing seems to make that message go away! Would have been nice to know which files I actually do need to transfer, which I don't get any info on of course...
Starting to get really annoying this thing.. Any smart suggestions what's going on?

  • Things to know before building a Mega 651 (and other things you should know afte

Okay, following hot on the heels of the "things to know" series on Mega 180 and 865, I thought I'd just chip in with this short post on what you should know before splashing out on a nice budget Mega 651
    PROCESSOR SUPPORT:
The official list of supported CPUs can be found here:
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/slim_pc/slm/pro_slm_cpu_support_detail.php?UID=431&kind=4
Basically the ageing SiS651 chipset does not support Celeron / P4 cpus above 533mhz, and does NOT support the newer "Prescott" core cpus
    Celeron > 400Mhz FSB
    P4 Northwood > 533mhz FSB (512kb L2 cache)
    MEMORY:
Basically to add to what is listed in the 865 "things to know"; from my own experience of using MSI motherboards in the past, ALWAYS use good quality branded memory, as using cheaper "generic" types inevitably leads to major problems. I know for a fact that Crucial, Kingston and Samsung types work well in MSI motherboards, and you should be okay with other high-end brands like Corsair and Geil.
    DRIVERS:
DON'T bother using MSI LiveUpdate! The drivers provided on the cd supplied will work, but if you wish to download the latest drivers, you will find them here:
    http://download.sis.com/
    Download and install the:
Chipset Software > SiS AGP (Gart) Driver
IGP Graphics Drivers > SiS650 and 740 series
    http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/dlac97-2.aspx?lineid=5&famid=12&series=8&Software=True
    for Realtek AC97 Audio drivers
    http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloads1-3.aspx?lineid=1&famid=3&series=16&Software=True
    For Realtek Onboard Network interface
The modem drivers supplied on the CD should work, I really don't know much about them as I have never used them (sorry). Failing that, if you are connected to the internet, Windows Update should be able to find them for you.
    OPERATING SYSTEM SUPPORT
MSI state that only Windows XP is supported on Mega 651 (and other Mega barebones). Other versions of Windows (98, ME, 2000) will work provided you have drivers for hardware devices, all of which are provided on the install CD or from the links supplied above.
You'll find that earlier versions of Windows won't have the drivers for the built-in card reader, so you may have to do a "google" search to get them. On my Mega 651, they are listed in Device Manager as "OEI-USB" devices.
If you haven't already got Windows XP then I suggest you consider upgrading at the earliest opportunity; Microsoft themselves no longer support Win 98 / ME and most new software is being designed to work only with Windows XP
Please note that MSI do NOT supply or support drivers for Linux; if you wish to attempt to install Linux on a Mega 651 (or other Mega PC model) you will need to obtain drivers yourself. The remote and LCD display functions will also not be available under Linux, unless some clever bod has developed drivers to do so.
    MEGA RADIO AND LCD DISPLAY:
Download the Mega LiveUpdate for Mega 651 from here:
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/software/swr/spt_swr_detail.php?UID=431&kind=4
This will update your MEGA Radio program, update the BlueBird HIFi module firmware and allow you to set a "greeting" displayed on the LCD display when you switch on HiFi mode. Apart from that the LCD display serves NO other purpose in PC mode.
After updating the firmware, you should power off your Mega 651, unplug the mains power cord for a few seconds then reconnect and restart for changes to take place.
    OTHER MSI SOFTWARE:
If you REALLY must try out MSI Media Center III, it does work on the Mega 651, but I don't think the remote will work correctly.
Although PCAlert 4 has been reported to work on the Mega 651 - having read the numerous problems most users have, I don't advise installing it. If you do get it to work correctly, unlike on the Mega 180 and 865, it will not display temps or fan speeds on the LCD display, as this feature only works on the 180 and 865, as they use diferent LCD displays.
    EXPANSION CARDS:
Same as with other Megas, you get 1 AGP and 1 PCI slot.
The AGP slot only supports up to 4x cards; a faster card will work, but only at 4x.
Space is limited, if you decide to fit a PCI TV tuner card, you will be limited as to which AGP card you can fit. A full length card is probably not recommended, and a model with a slimline (or even passive) heatsink would be best.
A better alternative would be to go for a VGA card with built in TV tuner, such as MSI TV5200-VTDF128 or an ATI Radeon All-In-Wonder card (ATI AIW is supported in WinXP MCE05)
    ON-BOARD VGA
The SiS651 chipset is pretty old now, and the on-board SiS650 VGA is not up to playing any of the latest games, as it is only DirectX 7.0 compliant and does not support Hardware Texture & Lighting. However, it is adequate for playing back DVDs as it supports hardware acceleration (in PowerDVD for example), and general video output is decent. The maximum shared video memory size is 64mb.
The Mega 651 does NOT feature TV-out as standard. You can however either buy an AGP video card which includes TV-out feature, or the Mega TV-out card (availble in UK from www.dabs.com). Please note, this card is ONLY for Mega 651, and does NOT work with the 865 model. (The 180 does however, thanks to nforce2 chipset, support TV-out as standard)
    ON-BOARD AUDIO
The Realtek ALC650 AC97 audio codec offers 5.1 surround sound (with suitable speakers of course  ) as well as SP-DIF for digital output.
The sound quality is quite reasonable; i'm currently listening to MP3s through a set of Creative Inspire 5.1 speakers, and its certainly good enough for me.
There are three audio connectors on the rear, they default to:
    GREEN - Front speakers
    BLUE - Line In
    PINK - Mic
To connect surround sound speakers correctly, you need to use the Realtek audio configuration tool (located in the Taskbar by the clock). Set the speaker config to 4 or 6 channel (5.1) and then click on the boxes to the right to configure the rear ports correctly
    GREEN - Front speakers
    BLUE - Rear Speakers
PINK - Subwoofer / Centre Speaker
NOTE: If you do decide you want to install a PCI soundcard, be aware that you will lose the Radio function in PC mode, and for audio output in Hi-Fi mode you will need to reconnect audio plugs from your soundcard to onboard sockets. The Hi-Fi mode and Radio only work with the onboard audio.
    POWER SUPPLY
All the Mega series barebones come with a 200w PSU. Don't even think about upgrading to a higher output type, as the Mega PSU is a non-standard type. A standard ATX PSU will NOT physically fit inside the Mega case. Besides which, the Mega series have a special connector which powers the Bluebird hi-fi module and on-board sound when the PC is off. And there is a special Molex power connector for the CD/DVD drive, also for that to be used when PC is off.
    WINDOWS XP MCE 2005
Media Center 2005 requires a DirectX 8.1 / 9.0 compliant video card with a minimum of 64mb RAM, 128mb RAM is recommended, however, for best performance. So you will need an AGP card, because SiS do not provide any MCE-compatible drivers. The TV@anywhere TV tuner (MS8606-10) and Mega TV Tuner (MS8606-40) are not supported by MCE05, because MCE2005 requires a TV card that will provide a direct MPEG2 stream, which a PVR card such as the Hauppage PVR MCE series can do (as a hardware card, MSIs card are software only and rely on drivers to do MPEG encoding), or a dedicated DVB-T card which receives an MPEG2 signal over the air.
    MEGA 651 REMOTE
If you fit an MSI TV@anywhere card to your Mega 651, the Mega remote can be used to control the MSIPVS software, providing you use the remote receiver supplied with the TV@nywhere card. The Mega remote is designed to work natively with the MSI Media Center, and MSI Mega Radio programs only.
If you wish to program the remote to operate other programs within windows, then you will need a program called Girder, and the accompanying MSI plugin, kindly provided by nathan. please see his sticky thread for more info, about his plugin, and how to obtain Girder.

    TomCT60,
Is your MacBook using Mac OS X 10.6.8 as indicated in your post? If so you will not be able to fully integrate with iCloud.
iCloud and Snow Leopard, by Roger Wilmut describes what iCloud options are available for Snow Leopard.
If you are using Lion, go to iCal>Preferences...>Accounts, and delete/re-add your iCloud CalDAV server.

  • !Important! You should backup your new computer (or your old one!)

As a Geek Squad Ask an Agent representive, I recieve plenty of calls. One of the questions I invariably have to ask is 'Do you have your recovery DVD's?' and the answer is always 'No.. doesn't the computer come with them?'
Macintosh computers (that's Apple) *do* in most cases come with OS recovery DVD's. PC's - which include popular brands such as ASUS, Dell, HP, Toshiba, etc - do NOT come with OS Recovery DVD's (in most cases).
    What are Recovery DVD's?
Recovery DVD's are a copy of your system's OS, or Operating System. In most cases, this is Windows 7. You'll notice you have a sticker on the side, back or bottom of your PC/Laptop with your licence key. You don't need this, but this states you own the copy of Windows 7, so you're free to back it up for your machine.
The backup proccess also makes a copy of most of the programs you install on the machine. If you have a lot of programs, MP3's, or video files already installed, it'll use more DVD's.
For instructions on how to backup, refer to this Microsoft Document:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Back-up-your-files
If you don't understand this, refer to this:
    http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/4241/how-to-create-a-system-image-in-windows-7/
I would recommend an external hard drive for backup, *and* a between 4 to 7 DVD's for a 'doomsday' situation - such as cases where the recovery external hard drive is corrupt or has been infected by a virus. This rarely happens, but always be prepared!
If you take the hour or so it takes to complete the backup proccess, you will avoid the following scenarios:
    1. Paying money if there is a problem with your PC's software that causes it to freeze or crash. You can just go back to a 'restore point'.
    2. Paying money to remove virus's. Hey, you have a backup. Just use the recovery DVD to wipe the computer and reload it with an uninfected copy from that backup you made two days ago.
    3. Your computer or hard drive fails. Hey, you have a backup. When your machine is repaired, restore from backup and you've lost nothing.
    4. Someone comes and messes up your computer. Say, your 'computer genius nephew'. Restore to a previous day, and it's as if he had never come over!
    5. Random freezes and blue screens. Restore to FACTORY DEFAULT - if you create a system image when you first started the computer or near that time, you can restore to that point using the DVD's rather then the external hard drive. If the blue screens and freezes continue, it's much more likely to be a hardware problem then a software problem, which means you should bring it into the nearest Best Buy for a hardware diagnosis and possible warranty repair.
The most important reason for spending this time to back up is PEACE OF MIND.
    Still confused? Call 1-800-GEEK-SQUAD.

Additionally, some HP computers do not have recovery partitions, or those recovery partitions may become corrupt/unusable. Therefore, creating a DVD recovery set is always the best option. To see if you have a recovery partition, navigate to START/COMPUTER and view if you have a secondary hard drive (labeled other then C:, usually D that is named 'Recovery, SYSTEM FILES' or similar.

After 3 different downloads (2 in Safari, 1 in Firefox) I still get this message when I try to open Lightroom package: “Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4.pkg” is damaged and can’t be opened. You should eject the disk image. I have a feeling it has to do with 3rd-party software on my Mac OSX 10.8.2 - how do I get around that?

If you have already tried an alternate web browser then your next step would be to try an alternate Internet connection.  Perhaps try a wired connection if you are using wireless for example.

  • Gatekeeper failure: Application is damaged and can't be opened. You should move it to the Trash

    I have installed Eve online.
With the first try to start it I received message "Eve Online is damaged and can’t be opened. You should move it to the Trash".
I know my Gatekeeper may protect me from apps downloaded from internet so I tried open Eve online application with Ctrl also. I tried open it using context menu also.
Everything ended with same message = Damaged move to Trash.
Re-download and reinstall resulted in the same behavior (almost 8GB download).
However I found out later on that disabling Gatekeeper by selecting "Allow applications downloaded from: Anywhere" is the only way how to solve it.
When Gatekeeper is off application works without any problem.
So my question is: Is this behavior of Gatekeeper correct?
I do not think so. Gatekeeper should stop mark applications as broken if they are not. It can be marked as dangerous. It can be marked as Blocked. But it should say always: Gatekeeper marked it as dangerous because ... Gatekeeper blocked it from start because ....
Am I right? Should I write a bug report for this or there is something I missed?

    Hi, thanks.
To be honest I checked it and I found their suggestion to switch off Gatekeeper.
However I expected I can avoid Gatekeeper using Ctrl or starting application from context menu because I prefer to keep Gatekeeper switched on for regular work.
I know now, that I cannot. The only way is to disable Gatekeeper generally.
But the question is: Do you think that message "Application is broken..." is valid for case when Application is evaluated by gatekeeper as potentially dangerous? Based on this experience I see it wrong. Application is working ok and Gatekeeper marks it as broken.

  • There are purchased items on the iPhone "asingh's iPhone" that have not been transferred to your iTunes library. You should transfer these items to your iTunes library before updating this iPhone. Are you sure you want to continue?

When I am trying to upgrade my iphone to IOS7.0.2 by connecting my my iphone and macbook, it shows "There are purchased items on the iPhone “asingh’s iPhone” that have not been transferred to your iTunes library. You should transfer these items to your iTunes library before updating this iPhone. Are you sure you want to continue? ".  I hit the same issue and lost a lot of apps from my iphone. Can someone help on how to resolve this issue? I can automatically upgrade my software on the iphone but how shall I resolve any future updates of "Apps"?

I appreciate the answer, but what you describe is not entirely accurate.  First, to even see view, you have to enable the menu by clicking on the icon in the upper left.  View allows you to show the sidebar.
Second, you will NOT see your devise listed in sidebar or anywhere else.  Instead, you have to click on "devise" from the sidebar menu, wait a minute, and then it will finally show up under "devise."   Or maybe it just takes a minute to show up whatever you do.
Third, right clicking on your devise will take you to a menu with "transfer my files" on it, but then iTunes will refuse to make the transfer.  Instead, it will tell you that <your apps> on your <devise> could not be transferred to iTunes "because you are not authorized for it on your computer."  Apple unhelpfully suggests going to store> authorize this computer.  There is a "store" menu item on the sidebar, but it has no "authorize this computer" sub-menu.  Instead, go to the horizontal menu at the upper left, and THERE you will find "store" and the "authorize this computer" sub-menu.  Now you can transfer your files, to who knows where.
My iPhone 5 is my first Apple devise. So far my experience has been, to do A, which must be done right now, you must first do B.  To do B you must first do C, which is unexplained save in answers in user forums.  To do C you must first do D, which, after several hours of research and puzzle solving, can eventually be done.

  • Script Alert "You should only run scripts from a trusted source."

I created a small javascript which opens Photoshop and resizes some images.
I want to be able to double-click the .JSX file from Windows Explorer, and have Photoshop execute the script. Likewise, I want to be able to run the .JSX file from the command line.
The script runs perfectly. However, the problem is that I don't want any user interaction. I want to be able to run the script from the command line without the user having to click anything. What happens now when I try to run the file from Windows Explorer of the command line is, I get a Script Alert with the following text:
You are about to run a script in Adobe Photoshop CS3. You should only run scripts from a trusted source. Do you want to run the script? Yes/No
Is there any possible way to bypass this message or to answer in the affirmative?
    Thanks,
    Jamie L.

Hi... Sorry to revive such an old thread,
Does anyone know the "trusted source" folder for MAC CS4.
    EDIT!
My bad.  "The /users/<user_name>/documents/Adobe Scripts" folder is working for this purpose for me.  I needed a path to it and forgot that the ~ resolves to the current user.  Sweet.

do whatever you'd like to do.  No one's forcing you to update.
