Z10 Model

What is difference between stl 100-1 or stl 100-2,I mean which one is better.

Hello,
There is no "better"...rather, there are different capabilities so as to function on different networks around the world. Refer:

  • BB Z10 Model STL100-1 Won't Start Up Running OS 10.2.1

I purchased this phone in May through Amazon unlocked and I use it on the T-Mobile Network.
It is within the first year of the phone and the video hardware seens to have went out on the phone.
The phone kept freezing and then it would go black screen and fade and then complete turn off.
At first I would pull out the battery and it would not start right away it would start then go black screen part way through the start up screen. But after a few times of pulling out the batter it would go through and back to the OS. This started to happen more and more.
I'm running the latest BB os 10.2 updated through the phone and bb link.
The screen started freezing up and then going black.
Now my phone sometimes will start to the BB os start up screen but it always goes to a black screen and does not go to the full os.
It is still under the 1 year manufacturer warranty. Can you help me? My phone screen has went blank.
I have reloaded the software through the BB Link Desktop software via USB cable. And still the phone won't load past the first part of the load screen then it fades to black.
I have let it charge for two or more hours, pulled out the battery and waited two minutes or more and then put it back in as well.
Nothings is working. The phone is now a brick.
It started to happen slowly. It seems to be a hardware issue or something to do with the screen.
It hasn't been in water or dropped or anything. It just started acting up and now it won't even turn on.
I have tried everything that the BB.com site said to do and I still can't get it past the start up screen. It begins, then fades slowly to black. Please help.
It is a BB Z10 Model STL100-1 running OS 10.2.1 loaded through BB Link and device updates.
    Please help.
Blackberrry logo comes up then fades and turns off completely or just stays hung on the logo screen.
Its been like this for two days now.

    1. If it is still within warranty as you mention, follow up on the warranty with your seller or Tmobile.
    2. You can try using an autoloader file to awaken the device... Upgrading OS10 devices using Autoloader

  • Which type of Blackberry Z10 model

    Hi All,
Which type of Blackberry Z10 model and software fits me better with my carrier having 3G+ and EDGE and sitting in Central Africa region.
    Best Regards,

    Hey charry4G,
    Thanks for the reply.
The APN settings are disabled on all BlackBerry Z10 smartphones as the APN settings are hard coded from the SIM card.
Contact your network service provider if you're having trouble getting a data connection.
    Cheers.

Incorrect. If you don't delete the vendor.xml the software wont load at all unless the OS and handheld are from the same carrier.
I stand corrected, then.  The warnings in every instructional posting are highlighted in such a way as to imply something bad will happen to your phone.

  • Woes of the Z10, and now i want to use it as a backup phone for my contacts and data. Can I?

Ok, this has been a real nightmare. I am an extensive user of BB since OS4. Wanted to try the new Z10, so I got myself a spanking new one. With my prior experience in switching devices, it would be a cinch. Transfer device over via blackberry desktop software, change the emails via BIS, and I'm all sorted out.
OMG dear blackberry. You made me jump through so many hoops I felt like a circus dog.
Blacberry desktop doesn't work with the Z10. No one told me. I had to find out the hard way after not being able to detect the phone. wasted half an hour of my life. Downloaded Blackberry link. Transferred my contacts and everything over, couldn't be happier.
Hurrah, thought the nightmare was done. It was just starting.
Micro sim. Not everyone has a microsim cutter lying around. Great. Troop off to the shop. Figured after I get the sim cut, I could also transfer the emails via BIS server. So that's what I did. (oh by the way, having to buy a micro SD card was also a pain in the A but still acceptable). The BIS server detected the change in device so it disabled my emails. No problem. Until the technician told me at the store-sorry-BIS DOESNT WORK WITH Z10. Whaaaaat? Come on blackberry! Now its just normal emails, similar to that of iphone and samsung. Emails were your best feature. Ok, this I can stomach. What I cannot stomach is...blackberrry, you just killed your frequent traveller who needs international roaming. BIS emails and BBM was wonderful. I could get by travelling from country to country on 50mb a month unlimited. Apparently not anymore. I need a full fledged international roaming plan that will cost me an arm and a leg. This is insane.
Finally I had the Z10 working. I manually entered all my emails. ( i have 9 emails. Thank god they are all gmail based, especially for work, if not I would have ripped all my hair out). For the whole 2 hours, I looked at it and hated it. It was hard to use, I had to keep swiping up and to the right, sometimes it wouldn't swipe well, sometimes I couldn't tell if it was swiping or not. Neither did it help that Whatsapp hasn't even been sorted out on the Z10. Whatsapp is my life. My family's on it. My friends are on it. My suppliers and my customers are on it. Oh wait. Z10-well, you can download it from the appworld, but it doesn't install. Thinking it was a problem with the downloads, I kept at it..only to have the technician tell me, "sorry, Whatsapp not working on Z10, too bad"...anyway I made up my mind to go back to the Torch. So thinking it would be as simple as changing the hub ID on the Z10 and then reactivating the Torch. All will be well. Wrong.
I had to run to another tel shop to beg for a spare sim shell so I could stick the micro sim into it and have it back as a normal sim. Another 2 hours of my life later, I realise-changing the hub ID on the Z10 doesn't change anything. It doesn't mean you can just use the original hub Id and all systems are go on the first phone. Changing the hub ID means changing the original one. Argh. This was so frustrating especially when the BIS server refused to switch back to the old device. Ever clicked on detect device 200 times? Well that would be me. Eventually I figured it out. Change back to the old hub ID, security wipe the horrible thing, log in with the original hub ID and reset the device via BIS server. Finally, order is restored.
Which leads me to my question. I am thinking of porting over my contact list and data to the Z10, and using it as another phone in another country. However I want to use a different Id from my Torch since it is considered a different device but with the same data. Will blackberry link allow me to do this, or will it only switch the data provided the hub ID is the same?
Blackberry, hand over heart, I'll use the Torch till it dies ( I just changed out the nav pad cause it was completely worn out and would act wonky in sunlight- I call it the blackberry vampire version) and after that I'm off to another smart phone platform. You've made my life miserable. It was great while it lasted, but I'm going to be migrating to another platform eventually. Thanks for the memories.

    Hello,
BlackBerry 10 has always been advertised as a revolutionary change from prior...not an evolution. And you have both now learned the hard way just how detailed that change is. As with so many things, the assumptions made from past experience with BB are not useful for this very significant change. Rather, research done prior to purchase is the most useful activity one can undertake.
For BB10, BIS is not required. Indeed, on some carriers, having BIS on the account actually impedes some services for BB10. BB10 uses a full on-device ActiveSync client for email now. BIS-handled email is gone...as are "hosted" email accounts (though you can get 1-year of forwarding).
Migrating of data from old to new involves many choices before beginning. For example, if you are not afraid of placing your Calendar and Contact data "into the cloud", the Z10 can excellently synchronize that against many different providers (many more than BIS ever could). Done correctly, one can attain full end-to-end OTA synchronization of Calendar/Contact data between Outlook desktop client (and perhaps others, though I've not tested), a Z10, a PlayBook, and more (for me, I've got 2 Outlook client instances, one Z10, one PB, and one Droid...all working beautifully OTA).
Traveling is no more challenging than in the past...your specific device must be able to function on the networks upon which you wish to roam...this is no different from before (e.g., a GSM-only device simply cannot roam on a CDMA network). To compare specifics, I've found this useful:
    http://www.bbin.in/en/2013/03/03/4-types-blackberry-z10-models-fits-better/?utm_campaign=4-types-of-...
There are many other differences...but please try to let go of what was before, for pretty much none of it applies anymore. BB10 is revolutionarily different from before.
    Good luck!

  • Phone contacts are not visible on the Z10 after a OS 10.2..1 update, but are still in there somewhere...

It was yesterday that I updated on my Z10 model STL100-1 OS from 10.1.0.273 to 10.2.1.1925 and got an instant message to update to 10.2.1.537 and did that, too The update process went smoothly enough.
But, after loading the new 10.2 OS from BB's website I can't see my most often used phone contacts. I can get my gmail contacts but those are email addresses mostly. It looks like the old phone contacts are still somewhere in the phone because when I manually add them back to my contacts I get a warning that the entry already exists and asking if I want to edit it or add a new one. I choose add a new one since I don't see the old ones. I did update from all the SIMS I use, and got very few additional contacts.
I have also lost my past record of texts, i.e. SMS. That also is a biggg loss What happened to the texts? Where were they saved? Are they still on a data file somewhere in the machine? Are the old contacts somewhere in the machine.
    Thanks for any ideas.
    Ken

That's another odd thing. I did make a big effort to back-up the Z10 before the update to OS 10.2.1.  But, it appears to me that by downloading the new OS to my computer [T-Mobile never does push the BB updates, not as long as I've owned it, which was a few days before the US distro, when I got hold of one for the South American market in Miami Breach] it seems to have removed my installed BB Link from my laptop. And my back-up files are empty.
Last time something like this happened. there was a workaround. Do this, do that, and suddently the contacts that are lurking somewhere on the phone, appear. I was hoping for this again.
If this is a known issue, why is it not featured on the BB page where the installer was located? I would never have downloaded OS 10.2.1, if I was warned I might lose my contacts and texts.
    A sorry mess.
    Ken
PS Note I corrected "visible" to "invisible" in the title of  this thread

  • Question about swapping SIM cards on a Z10

Hi, everyone, I am a non-Blackberry user who works in IT support.  One of my clients uses a Blackberry and has often asked me very complicated questions about how to do various unusual things with his device.  At the present time, he is considering switching to a Z10, which would be set up using ActiveSync.  He wants to know if he could swap the SIM card without having to go through the setup process again.   My client travels a lot, and wants to use a local SIM card on an upcoming trip to a very remote area.
I've not been able to find an answer to this anywhere.
This is his exact question: "I just got it from a friend (ATT version) and I am trying to see if I like it enough to switch to it as my primary phone.  Blackberry z10 asks you to sign in with your blackberry world ID when you first set up the phone.  Question: Would you have to do it again if you put a different simm into it?  With iPhone, it makes no difference so long as the device is unlocked—you can then exchange simm cards as often as you want.  Would it be the same with an unlocked blackberry z10 (I know it's not possible with the bold 9900 as System 7 ties your ID to the simm card).  In short, in blackberry z10, could you exchange the US simm for another country's simm without having to wipe the phone,  etc.  "
If anyone can shed some light on this for me, I'd be very grateful.,  Thanks!

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
    The key issues are thus:
Ensuring that the device is truly carrier unlocked
Ensuring that the specific device model is compatible with the radio frequencies/technologies that the desired carrier uses. There are 4 different Z10 models:
    http://www.bbin.in/en/2013/03/03/4-types-blackberry-z10-models-fits-better/?utm_campaign=4-types-of-...
If both of those are OK (separate research of the desired carriers would of course be necessary), then it is indeed a simple matter to change carriers. For example, I changed from ATT to TMO by simply changing the SIM...no need to WIPE or anything, and my same BBID came along just fine. You should, however, always obtain a properly-sized SIM card from the carrier -- there are plenty of reports of folks trying to use "cut" SIM cards and experiencing errors.
With BB10, it's actually simpler than with legacy BBs. Legacy BBs used the BIS service, which required receipt onto the device (from the carrier data network) of Service Books so as to activate the various services that the user subscribed to. When changing carriers, it often could be that a latent Service Book from the prior carrier causes issues when shifting to a different carrier...and that's where WIPING and such came into play, so as to cleanse the device so that the new carrier could deliver all of the proper Service Books to the device. With BB10, there is no BIS, and there are no Service Books...so all of that complication is eliminated.
    But, as always, YMMV.
    Good luck!

  • Unable to obtain 4G from my network with the Z10

I recently purchased my z10 from verizon in the United States unlocked. When i inserted the sim card of my local network (4G plan) i was only able to identify an 'E'  in the upper right hand corner of the screen. After speaking with my network provider their agent said that it was the phone or a possible setting which i needed to make because after trying the same sim card in one of their own phones they observed the '4G' on the screen.
    please advise......

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Your issue may actually be worse...there are 4 different Z10 models, each with different capabilities...refer:
    http://www.bbin.in/en/2013/03/03/4-types-blackberry-z10-models-fits-better/?utm_campaign=4-types-of-...
If the device you have does not support the 4G bands of the network you are attempting to operate it on, then that would of course fully explain the problem.

  • Z10 browser issue

    Hello all,
Big issue for the last 4 days.
    I am on BB10, Z10, Model STL100-1, 10.2.1.2977, OS- 10.2.1.3247
My personal space browser suddenly stopped working. checked online, many have faced this issue and solutions involve deleting history etc but all that is not an option in my case since i am unable to access the menu items , the 3 dots don't work. neither does typing any url or the new page button etc. its completely frozen.
while one browser doesn't work , even if i use another app to open a link in the browser, the work browser on work space works perfectly fine.
After much reading and doing both soft and hard  resets - restarts and taking battery out  etc i decided to replace the existing sys.browser file (blackberry's file for the browser) as there is no other way to reset the data/cache in the browser. so,
    1) i replaced the sys.browser file (original - came with the last and latest software update 10.2.1.3247) with a 10.3 browser from the crackberry forums. the work browser was also replaced understandably which confirms that the browser file is the same for both instances albeit with different settings/bookmarks etc . so this file also doesn't work in the personal space . still frozen, but when i open a link using a third party app then the browser starts working while that link is open. as soon as this instance is closed, the browser goes back to its frozen state.
    2) i search further and found a stable , recommended 10.2.2 browser. same issue as above with that too.
    3) downloaded a 10.1.0 version browser too, didn't work at all, just a black screen. i tried then both internal phone updates and blackberry link to update the phone - well hoping that while the phone os hasn't changed but since i had downgraded its browser i wondered if it would update the browser to an original one , fresh and all.
    4) sadly nothing works, the interesting part being while the version and file size of the actual sys.browser bar file changed, the cache size remained the same.
    5) i have for the meantime again installed the frozen 10.3.0 browser as stated in (1) ; while it is frozen it does atleast one thing better than others, without harming the work browser.
    6) i am a little concerned and apprehensive of having bar files on a personal device from total strangers especially with all security issues and hackers at large.
So i am looking for either a solution to the above problem with a stable browser for 10.2.1.3247 . i do not want to do a full reload of the software since that is a waste of time - considering the setup of all apps and other settings. don't want to go for that route. I also cannot wait until 10.3.1 whenever that is released officially since that could take months form now.
    Please help .
Note: for the above a chrome extension which lets sideload .bar files or .apk files was used. its highly recommended and pretty neat and stable for such tasks.
All other apps work, so does everything on the work space including browser enterprise IM and emails.

I really tried to find info for your issue but could not, sorry.

  • Blackberry Z10 saving and uploading issue

I got my blackberry a week ago, and I haven't been able to save files from the browser. When I click save, it doesn't do anything. I can't upload files to facebook or bbm straight from in the app either, I have to share them. I can only save images straight from the facebook app, and if I try to save while in the browser, nothing happens. This also happens when I'm trying to save other files such as applications.
    Any help would be appreciated

  • Can I use my BB Z10 in India???

    Hi,
I have bought BB Z10 in Nigeria & using there. Now I am in India and change my SIM but Phone is not detecting my new SIM. Why??? what is the solution ???

    Hello,
Two things I can think of...
    1) Your specific Z10 model (there are 4) must be capable of working with the radio frequencies of your carrier network...refer:
    http://www.bbin.in/en/2013/03/03/4-types-blackberry-z10-models-fits-better/?utm_campaign=4-types-of-...
    2) Your BB must be carrier unlocked...check here:
Homescreen > Swipe Down From Top > Select Settings > Security and Privacy > SIM Card
In the bottom section ("Phone Network Lock"), if any items do not say "Unlocked", then your BB remains locked to it's original carrier, and must be unlocked before use on any other carrier.
    Good luck!
